Galaeta clears her throat a little and says "The water from the Weeping Lake isn't what most people would consider clear. I actually have worked in the water purification system in town, helping by magically clearing debris and other such things from the water. It then goes through several more filters, is brought to a boil and then, finally, the head cleric removes disease and impurities from the water. I don't know quite what causes it, but it seems safe enough after all that. It should be obvious that I don't recommend drinking the water straight from the lake."

Galaeta pulls herself out of the water and begins to wring it out of her hair. She wrinkles her nose as the smell burns a little, then begins checking her circuitry for any significant flaws. Finding nothing of concern I hope!, she smiles and offers a hand to the others attempting to climb out of the lake. The brooch on her necklace glows with a soft, white light.

"Well," she says, "that wasn't so bad. A little acidic, but we're alive."

"I have a few skills, mainly in determining how mechanical things move and work. However, I much prefer the call of nature and the land. I learned those trades in order to help provide Torch with pure water that wouldn't lead to illness." Her white eyes no longer glow, and she seems calmer now.

"Before we head into the depths under Torch, I must say that I am able to assist in fighting, though I prefer to use the powers that the land grants me. In particular, I can cast creatures into darkness and cast spells. I have trained in order to cast my spells in the heat of battle, so I can assist Hitomi with my quarter staff."

She turns to Harumi, smiling. "I am intrigued, as well. While I care about my father, the ground's mysteries hold much promise. I do not believe I have heard your name, yet."

Galeata nods at Sandovar before speaking. As she speaks, she pushes her white hair behind her ears, and her eyes seem to glow with a nervous energy.

"Yes, it is good that you are here as well. I worry for my father's safety." She looks at the other people gathered and says, "I do not know all of you. I am Galeata Earthschild, daughter of Khonnir Baine. We are well-met, though I wish it was under other circumstances. May our bonds grow stronger through any battles."

Galeata furrows her brow and looks at Dolga. "Councillor Dolga, thank you for your generous offer. You know that I would take on this task for no reward. However, I worry about the task ahead. I know not much about where he went, or why. Can you assist us in tracing his last known steps?"

Galatea runs her hands over her shirt, smoothing out any wrinkles as she waits for the council to brief them on the disappearance of her foster father. Even with her excellent memory, she struggles to remember the details that her foster father had mentioned before leaving on his expedition. He was always doing such things - it seemed so inconsequential before, really quite beyond what she needed to know. After all, who knew that it would be this expedition that he wouldn't return from.

Of course, she had wanted to go under the town days ago, but the town council dissuaded her. If Khonnir disappeared, she would have no chance on her own. A group would need to be sent - at the very least, there would be enough of a chance that one of them would come back alive with enough information for town council to make an informed decision. Logically, these summons could only mean that the town council had found enough able-bodied people to mount the rescue operation.

Looking around, however, she doesn't see anyone she doesn't recognize.

Anyways, I could really see that rivalry being more one-sided as well. Kind of a naivete on Galaeta's part, where she doesn't quite get that you don't like her hanging around/taking up time. She doesn't really "do" emotions that well, haha.

For my background, Galaeta was adopted by Khonnir. He also taught her what she knows of the engineering in Torch. If I recall correctly, there's a water processing area for purifying the lake water. I'm assuming that there's some tech involved in that as well as divine druid-y magic, so I placed Galaeta working there.

I also think that means that Galaeta and Sandovar may have some sort of pre-existing relationship, or at least know who each other are. While they didn't study with each other, they must've surely had some sort of interaction!

Hi,

I'm Rigby, a sociology graduate student that also does academic advising. I only started playing Pathfinder regularly about a year ago, though I did have a few attempts at a campaign before that. Currently, I prefer to GM rather than play, but I really want to run through Iron Gods! In fact, I've been avoiding cracking open the APs that are on my shelf right now, and I'm really excited to get to experience this one as a player. I also do a good amount of IRL Pathfinder Society.

My paperwork to be a VL for my area is supposed to be on its way.
Right now, I'm also running a pbp for Second Darkness.

Galaeta is an android who's coming-of-age in really important ways right now. While she, like most androids, was fully able to take care of herself once she woke from renewal, her personality isn't quite set yet and she has personal development left to go through. Starting off, she may be a bit hesitant at first, but I think that if she can form a good relationship with other party members, she'll warm up nicely. Also, she's relatively ignorant of what it means to be an android and considers herself to be more human with exceptional physiology. I could see her becoming close to Harumi in a way to understand what it's like to an android and have the community she hasn't had previously, if that's something Harumi's interested in developing.

Special Abilities

Constructed (Ex) For the purposes of effects targeting creatures by type (such as a ranger’s favored enemy and bane weapons), androids count as both humanoids and constructs. Androids gain a +4 racial bonus on all saving throws against mind-affecting effects, paralysis, poison, and stun effects, are not subject to fatigue or exhaustion, and are immune to disease and sleep effects. Androids can never gain morale bonuses, and are immune to fear effects and all emotion-based effects.
Nanite Surge (Ex) An android’s body is infused with nanites. Once per day as an immediate action, an android can cause her nanites to surge, granting a bonus equal to 3 + the android’s character level on any one d20 roll; this ability must be activated before the roll is made. When an android uses this power, her circuitry-tattoos glow with light equivalent to that of a torch in illumination for 1 round.
Touch of Darkness (Sp) As a melee touch attack, you can cause a creature's vision to be fraught with shadows and darkness. The creature touched treats all other creatures as if they had concealment, suffering a 20% miss chance on all attack rolls. This effect lasts for a number of rounds equal to 1/2 your druid level (minimum 1). You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.

Background:
Galatea doesn't remember much about the first days after her renewal; only the few inches of space around her and then the unending blackness. Those days were unmarked, without time or light or noise except from whir of the nanites and the slight glow from her circuitry as her body repaired itself. Ultimately, the monotony changed when a shaft of daylight shone through the glass window of the pod she was buried in. Some burrowing creature had unearthed a peephole, and Galatea began to attempt to force the pod open. It took days of attempting to force the doors open before she managed to do so.

Immediately, she felt a wave of nausea roll over her. The pod was barely buried - only an inch or two at most - and opened immediately into the scarred land around her. Few living things, mainly rats or moles, could be see on the flat waste around her, but the skeletal remains of dead trees rose above the dark plains. The capsule had obviously protected her from the danger of the outside world as her body rebuilt, but that didn't protect her as she took the first few steps outside into the blighted wasteland. Her nanites surged as she began her long trek across the land.

However, as much as the land harmed her, it also provided for her. That first day, as she grew weary, she found a small cave hidden from easy view, mainly by accident. Her nanites stopped fighting the diseases and dangers of the place so hard as her body adapted. The tracks and movements of the small animals that survived in the wastes showed her what areas to avoid and what water sources were safe. Slowly, Galatea went from ekeing out her survival to thriving in the land that birthed her. The land, as dangerous as it was, became the source of her power. The disease, however, continued to push her from the land, past the infected lake and into the local town of Torch.

Having lived the entirety of her short life without humans, she was confused and lost in the town, and on a few occasions, she was suspicious that some folk were more interested in taking her in as a slave rather than out of kindness. A local man, Khonnir Bane, offered her a place to stay and the freedom to come and go as she pleased, at least until she found a trade and was able to support herself. Being unskilled, however, meant that she wasn't able to do much, and she asked if he would mentor her and teach her an applicable skill. He taught Galatea the the inner workings of some of the technology in town, and she slowly learned more about the ways that water purification in town worked. Although she loves her new-found family and foster sister, Galatea yearns to return to the land that she came from and to find out more about the radiation that cradled her in her first years of wandering.

Appearance and Personality:
Galatea is soft-spoken and reserved, except around people she knows and trusts, such as her adopted father and sister. She doesn't understand much of human emotion or expression, though she is quick to accuses someone of being disrespectful of her or her family. Her trust is slowly gained, but once it is earned, it is difficult to break and comes with intense loyalty. In truth, her relationship with her family is what keeps her from leaving Torch and returning to the land where she first emerged. She is relatively quick to fight, though Val has convinced her to calm so as to avoid notice of the local sheriff and to maintain good standing with her job purifying the town's water.

Galatea tends to dress rather plainly in dark colors. Her eyes, hair and circuitry are bone-white, and more than a few locals have learned to back down once her eyes begin to glow. She considers herself to be Kellid in all important ways, and her right arm is covered with traditional Kellid tattoos that complement her circuits. Her left arm has the image of a giant weasel tattooed on it, in honor of the creature that first burrowed light into her world and the darkness that cradled her through the first few days. She's only been challenged to prove her Kellid nature a few times; each time, the challenger walked away with bruises.
