blackaeon |
Hello everyone! I'm John M., better known as blackaeon, and I'll be your host on an excursion through the savage and frightening lands of Numeria. For a little bit of info on myself, I'm currently a junior pursuing my degree in software engineering, and I live at the crook of SW Florida with my patient wife, adorable dogs, cute kitty and wonderbunny. I've been doing medieval/fantasy RPGs for about twenty-five years now, almost always as GM/DM (I've played in less than five games as an actual PC), and in my spare time, when I'm not working or studying, I play Heroclix and Warhammer 40K, as well as a little M:TG.
Harumi, Oracle of Time |
And I'm just checking in! As noted in the name, I'll be playing a time-themed Oracle, balancing healing for the team with various utility powers to support everyone else.
Now, with that out of the way... I suppose it's time to see where we're at in terms of backstories? Harumi's is relatively straightforward - she could've been in the village for days or years, based on what's convenient for everyone else and how well we'd like our characters to know each other.
Hitomi Tanakai |
checking in.
Much like Harumi, Hitomi (that will be fun! ^.^) could have been in torch for a matter of weeks to a bit longer, though I picture it more to have been a bit closer to a few weeks since her fathers death. Long enough to be familiar with the town I would warrent, but not long enough to be conisdered a member of it I would imagine.
Galaeta Earthschild |
Hi,
I'm Rigby, a sociology graduate student that also does academic advising. I only started playing Pathfinder regularly about a year ago, though I did have a few attempts at a campaign before that. Currently, I prefer to GM rather than play, but I really want to run through Iron Gods! In fact, I've been avoiding cracking open the APs that are on my shelf right now, and I'm really excited to get to experience this one as a player. I also do a good amount of IRL Pathfinder Society.
Galaeta is an android who's coming-of-age in really important ways right now. While she, like most androids, was fully able to take care of herself once she woke from renewal, her personality isn't quite set yet and she has personal development left to go through. Starting off, she may be a bit hesitant at first, but I think that if she can form a good relationship with other party members, she'll warm up nicely. Also, she's relatively ignorant of what it means to be an android and considers herself to be more human with exceptional physiology. I could see her becoming close to Harumi in a way to understand what it's like to an android and have the community she hasn't had previously, if that's something Harumi's interested in developing.
Harumi, Oracle of Time |
Now we just need Doctor Impossible and we'll be all set... and brownie points to anyone who gets the reference.
Though inherently religious instead of technological, Harumi does have an avid interest in all technology - Galaeta would certainly have a friend there if she wanted one. After all, neither of them is truly normal for the world. ^^
Lunar Sloth |
Galaeta is an android with a deep connection to nature, so I think there's stuff to be said there :)
Harumi, Oracle of Time |
An Android who likes nature and an Aasimar who likes technology... indeed, there are things. XD How about the rest of you?
Sandovar |
Hey guys,
this is going to be an interesting group for sure.
I'm glad that Harumi made it ;)
I've been playing rpgs for many years now and have run an online pbp chronicle, although not Pathfinder, for about eight years. I'm relatively new to Pathfinder. My experience so far is one PFS online session and a pnp Skull&Shackles campaign that I run for some friends, so please be patient with me ;)
For my characters, I prefer to invent a basic personality with some strong drives for them and then see where that takes them during the campaign. Sandovar starts out pretty dark, he's somewhat paranoid and often in pain. Let's see if he's going to become better or worse ;)
In the background, I had tentatively written that he was taken in as an apprentice by Khonnir Baine who taught him the basics of his magic. I didn't elaborate, because it would have been silly if e.g. all of us had been apprentices of Baine's or something ;)
As far as I can see, this is not the case, so with our GM's permission I would stick with that part. The idea is that Baine did not go all-out Mr. Miyagi on Sandovar but just had him as an apprentice on trial.. you know, learn first-level spells, cut firewood, clean the house, and so on.
So, I imagined that Sandovar did not really get to know him well and that Baine disappeared just when Sandovar thought he might be starting to earn his trust.
Galaeta Earthschild |
For my background, Galaeta was adopted by Khonnir. He also taught her what she knows of the engineering in Torch. If I recall correctly, there's a water processing area for purifying the lake water. I'm assuming that there's some tech involved in that as well as divine druid-y magic, so I placed Galaeta working there.
I also think that means that Galaeta and Sandovar may have some sort of pre-existing relationship, or at least know who each other are. While they didn't study with each other, they must've surely had some sort of interaction!
Harumi, Oracle of Time |
It's always nice to hear that other people are glad I got in. XD Hmm... I think I will go for Harumi having been in town for awhile - it's easier to roleplay her being a bit more used to her powers, if still a bit dizzied whenever they start acting up. Perhaps staying at any church the village has...?
Zstelian Besnik |
Hey guys I'm Connor, currently working in retail for the moment. I've played Pathfinder for about a year now, running two games and playing in one previous, with a few years experience with D&D 3.5 as well. My posting schedule will be a little weird since my hours vary but I'll be keeping to a 1/day posting at least.
Zstelian is an investigator whose background led him from Varisia to Numeria to become an archaeologist. He's traveled Numeria for a few months, picking up a working knowledge of some simple Numerian tech as well as Androffen, the language smattered through the technological ruins. He's heard stories of Torch, and thought to come and study the plume of violet fire and the ruins he suspected powered the fire. And then Khonnir Bane disappeared.
Looking forward to gaming with you guys.
Harumi, Oracle of Time |
And now, I'm mostly just waiting for a gameplay thread to dot so this campaign can be added to my tab. XD Should probably work on expanding Harumi's backstory, too... might get to that a little later.
Umina of the Caves |
My previous post feels a bit...sparse. Have some more words.
Umina is a bloodrager (of the Abyssal bloodline, but she doesn't know that) who thinks her powers are the result of a curse or from magical fallout from Technic League experiments. She really dislikes the League, since her tribe exiled her once her powers manifested. She comes to Torch shortly before the fire goes out, and hears murmurs about Technic League involvement and thinks that it's fact.
Noticing a trend, there, considering her backstory. I guess she's very trusting.
She looks forward to helping defeat the League's evil plans with all of you.
Galaeta Earthschild |
I'm also struggling a little with having to dig into the bowels of the forums to find the thread each time.
Sandovar |
Oh right I forgot about Galatea. I guess we should have a bit of a rivalry going on ;)
Sandovar probably isn't too happy if someone is taking up a lot of Khonnir's valuable time that could better be spent teaching Sandovar.
I suggest that Galatea has been with khonnir longer than Sandovar, if that is okay with you. It will have been obvious that Sandovar does not really know why Khonnir really bothers with an Android - a creature of which he does not know much - that is moreover wielding divine magic of all things.
Still, out of respect for Khonnir and in order not to make him angry, Sandovar will have behaved decently towards Galatea.
Galaeta Earthschild |
That's what I've been doing, but it's still a bit tricky.
Anyways, I could really see that rivalry being more one-sided as well. Kind of a naivete on Galaeta's part, where she doesn't quite get that you don't like her hanging around/taking up time. She doesn't really "do" emotions that well, haha.
Zstelian Besnik |
For Zstelian's part, I imagine he has interacted with at least Galaeta and Sandovar, although he probably hasn't been around them enough to form a formal opinion as such. He's pretty shy when technology isn't an overt topic, so probably hasn't really talked to either of them.
blackaeon |
I'm going to come up with a list of a few things that should help tie everything together, especially based on all of your feedback thus far, and we can get rolling in a little while. I don't work again until next weekend, so I'll be able to respond far more frequently now.
blackaeon |
I really like how everyone is working everything out organically. As far as getting ties into the immediate setting, there's not really anything I can think of that needs fleshing-out very much. Would anyone be remiss to having the PCs gathered as a group for the first scene? The Torch Council (of which Khonnir was a member) is recruiting groups to investigate the Black Hill caves running beneath the town to find Khonnir, as well as try to resolve the issue of the extinguished town namesake.
Galaeta Earthschild |
Good with me!
Galaeta Earthschild |
Even if it's just there for us to start introducing ourselves in-character to each other :D
Also, just a note, I won't be posting much around October 11th and the days before it, as my sister is getting married.
Umina of the Caves |
Introductions would be nice.
Sorry I haven't been on in a bit, my Wi-fi at home went down quite unexpectedly so I'm limited to school internet for the next few days, probably. If so, that means I'll be unavailable from Friday to Monday.
Have fun at the wedding, Galaeta!
Harumi, Oracle of Time |
It... does not appear they've posted on Paizo since they were here. Give it another day or two, then start to be concerned?
Zstelian Besnik |
On the chance the GM did disappear, I've got the first Iron Gods book. I've been avoiding reading it but if you guys want I can pick up the torch, so to speak. I've got one game running on the boards right now, but I think I could manage two.
Galaeta Earthschild |
Well, I don't typically write things off, but I really do think our GM disappeared - it's been two weeks since the last post. =/
connortheconman |
Thats totally fine Umina, its just going to be a thread for introductions at the Town Hall, like our MIA GM siggested. Depending on when everyone is satisfactorily introduced, it may be a few days before we start formal play. I'm going to post a link to the gameplay thread here tomorrow evening, and we'll go from there.

Sorry for the delay guys, had a family emergency come up and just now got everything settled. I'm not going to combine these threads with that one, so for those of you still interested in playing that will be our campaign page. If I need to recruit a few more players then I will, but we should be ok if everyone is still onboard. I look forward to gaming with you guys.
Sandovar |
Thanks for stepping in :)
As a previous online-GM myself, I know how difficult it is to return after having been absent for a while without informing people.
I just want to make clear to blackaeon that I understand that sometimes, life happens and that at least I do not bear any ill will. If it was my call, we could even talk about him taking over from our current GM if that was according to both of their wishes.
