Here's the Roll20 link!

Still thinking about a workaround for phones. I can and will describe things the best that I can. For most things, narrative of the mind is ideal. But it's good to have an accurate map for adjudication.

I will look into this further when I get home. If you are trying to dot in, my understanding is that the forum’s anti-spam mechanisms will not allow you to repeat the post before yours (if someone just types “dot” it won’t let you type that too). I’m still learning how it all works, but that’s something to try if you haven’t already.

Whew, what a week it’s been y’all. Sorry for not responding in a timely manner. Shouldn’t have any more issues for a while.

@Gareth
I’m sorry to see you go, but I understand. I’ll keep you on my list and I’ll message you when another opportunity comes up.

I’ll post a link to the roll20 game when I get home tonight. I’ll try to come up with a workaround for maps on mobile as well. I’ve got a short list for potential players that I’ll message tonight. Hopefully we can get back to 6 PCs before the 1st but if not, the show will go on!

Something I hadn't considered: Maps.

A friend has pointed me to Roll20, which seems pretty cool. It has a lot of utility I'm not interested in (character sheets and such), but tactical maps are pretty important to this AP. Would you all be interested in using this? I'm open to alternatives.

We'll be doing XP leveling. i used to hate the XP system with a passion, but after playing in an OSR game for the last year I grew fond of it.

Yes go ahead and dot the gameplay thread.

I hope everyone has a safe, joyful, peaceful, and otherwise merry holiday season. I won't be available tomorrow, as it is the first day of Hanukkah and my folks are coming into town to observe with me.

I think it might be best for everyone to start on the 1st, but I'm open to hear y'all's opinions on that.

Welcome aboard, Shrayda and Astrid!

Okay, I'm gonna close off recruiting for now. We're at 8 I think, which is a bit bigger of a party than I originally planned for. Or maybe I'm miscounting. Either way, I'm happy to have each and every one of you. Your submissions were a joy to read, and I'm honored to GM this adventure for you.

This time of year is tricky schedule-wise, so let's talk about a start date in the discussion thread.

I try to incorporate as much of the player backstories as I can into the campaign. If y'all put something down, I try my darnedest to pick it up and do something with it. I appreciate your thoughts and character design.

Tomorrow's the first day of Hanukkah and my family's coming into town, so I will not be posting tomorrow. Just a heads up.

I hope everybody has a safe, peaceful, and joyful holiday season.

@Azi
The one rulebook we never got for 1e: Ultimate Finance.

And an excellent Pratchett quote, Vanea.

Okay, I think that's sound advice. I've already had someone fall out of the other one I am setting up, so I see the wisdom there. Let's start with seven then, and push this thing to the limit!

@Cin
It's definitely an AP where those feats come in handy, especially since RotR anticipates a pretty vanilla party. I'll adjust as best as I can, but some of the iconic items and weapons don't always fit an exact concept. Personally, I think that's part of the fun. But I know it can be frustrating when you can't find that one item you really want.

EDIT: I've made some updates to the loot sheet. I couldn't remember if Azi had plans to format it, but if so please disregard what I've done. Let me know what you think. Constructive criticism is very welcome.

@Gareth
If you want to adjust/remake your character, go for it. Like you said, follow the same rules. Let me know what you come up with.

@Anthorg
Love the wizard! Should be an interesting dynamic with the rest of the group. Welcome.

@Jereru
I think I've got silver enough for Thorsteinn. Might even have a few gold pieces in my piggy bank. Welcome aboard.

And I think that's six right?

@Cin
It's water off a duck's back, my friend. Just settin' the record straight.

So many yankees! I was born in West Chester, but I'm happy to be mixing that Brotherly Love with Southern Hospitality here in the mountains.

Crafting is definitely a yes. There's plenty of downtime opportunities in this AP so crafting is very possible. I won't get into specifics but assume that you'll get at least one long stretch of downtime each book, or between books.

Leadership...well, it has a reputation, but honestly it's not any more game breaking than half the crap Paizo's put out at this point. I'll say that if you roleplay exceptionally, and help guide the story in the appropriate directions, I'd allow a PC to take Leadership. This is definitely an AP where it can make sense.

I don't think being melee heavy is a game-breaker, but as y'all probably know some AP encounters can be PC killers without a ranged specialist, especially in the first six or seven levels. Consider that, but if you are really digging your party composition as-is, don't change it.

And sorry about missing a post this morning. Y'all know how the holiday season is.

@Azi
I need permission to access the sheet. After I've got it, I'll put it in the Campaign Info tab. I appreciate you making this.

@Cin
It's her, not his, thanks.

Happy to see everyone working together already! My work schedule is changing slightly, so my posting schedule should be 10 AM and 10:30 PM EST. That's not what I originally had in mind, but that's life for ya.

@Cinthiel
If you could PM your recommendations to me, that would be great. Thank you for the calendar and name generator! Those will definitely come in handy.

@Dundur Underbrew
I like what you've got here. Riddleport is my favorite place in Golarion! Welcome to the party, Dundur.

@Kalvin Eliassen
I like your backstory, and I'm interested to see how Kalvin gets along with Faziz. Welcome to the party, Brother Kalvin.

@Faziz
My friend, that intro is a masterful example of great roleplay. After reading, I simply must have Faziz in the game.

I appreciate your honesty regarding your past posting record and anxiety. I know how tough that can be. If you know ahead of time that you won't be able to post, like I said, just let me know. And don't hesitate to contact me if you need someone to talk to. I do my best to be a river to my players.

@Fallen_Mage
Okay gotcha. Yeah I'm fine with it. As far as I know, Golarion Lore is that orcs can reproduce with most humanoids.

@Nicolas Paradise
If you have some book recommendations, that would be helpful. I have a few books I'm using now, but some of their titles might spoil the adventure so I won't list them here. The wiki might as well be my homepage now. I've run this F2F twice before, but I am hoping to really get into some things that just get glossed over at the table.

I didn't notice that either! So You'd have 1 background skill point and one adventuring skill point, like you said. Thanks for bringing that to my attention so we could get it set right.

@Fallen_Mage
What do you mean by unconventional combination?

@J Scot Shady
Jera is a delight! Welcome aboard.

I am excited to see the rest of y'all's submissions.

@Cinthiel
Your revisions turned out nicely! Well done.

Wow, I missed a lot at work!

@Mioki
If you want that change, go for it. There's plenty of strong female NPCs in this AP that will be happy to humiliate--er--help with character growth.

I don't mind the graphic backstory, but don't mistake that as my approval of using trauma to fuel development. If you feel such hesitations in the future, I'd go with them. We're not measured by our intentions, but by our impact.

I'm looking forward to seeing Azi's story unfold.

@Ingir
If you want to cook something else up that works with your story, have at it.

In general, you are free to make adjustments to your character as long as it fits your submitted backstory. We'll likely start playing on the 1st, so I expect all characters to be finalized by then.

I'm looking forward to playing with all of you, and I know that we're going to have a blast going through this classic AP.

@Mr. Hebeme
Your knowledge of the setting and penchant for storytelling shine through your backstory, friend. Ingir is in.

@The Emerald Duke
Thank you for checking out the thread, but I've got my six. Maybe next time. If you are interested, I'll keep you on my backup list in case I need another player in the future.

@Robert Henry
I like your character idea, but I've got my six. I appreciate your well wishes. I'll keep you on my backup list, if you like.

Thank you everybody for expressing interest in the game and for your submissions. They were all a delight to read.

That's fine with me. Thank the gods y'all have a Bard!

Reckless wrote:

I'll be working on a character to submit.

You did say Paizo materials, not just "Core", right, so stuff from the Lost Omens World and Character Guides are ok?

That's right. Anything that's official paizo material for 2nd Edition is acceptable.

Go ahead and dot in here when you can.

Please make use of this as much as needed. Great communication makes a campaign last.

@Nicolas Paradise
I like your proposed build. I'm intrigued by a chaotic character worshipping a lawful god. There's definitely good roleplay potential there. Looks like Cin is in.

@Archlich
I've got a soft spot for Dwarves. I like how your story incorporates many of your option choices. Gareth's in.

@Mioki
What a time Azi's had of it! You've got a knack for writing, friend. Azi's in.

I've got a single slot left open. The party's a bit limited on battlefield control and ranged options for its size, but these aren't insurmountable problems.

@Arkon the "Thunderer"
Sounds like a rough and tumble druid! You're in.

@The Emerald Duke
I have a bias toward players that haven't had any experience with this AP, but if your PC submission is exceptional I will make an exception.

For HP, take the max at level 1, and we'll roll from then on (re-rolling 1's, I am not un-merciful.) If it's Paizo, it's legal. That said, use some discretion. This adventure centers around a town and the defense of that town. If you've got some half-hag, half-duergar antipaladin with 3 levels in dream thief, it might be best used in another campaign.

@Robert Henry
Thanks for the welcome, Robert! I want to fill the roster quickly, so I can start tailoring the adventure better. I will accept the first six characters that meet my expectations and seem like interesting team players. I will try to account for party balance, but in my experience a slightly cattywampus party is an interesting party.

@DM Lil" Eschie Thank you, and I welcome you to the game. Vanea is delightful.

@chunky04 Oh yeah. Max starting gold. Thank you for asking.

@Mioki You are plenty early. So far, nothing's been decided on PC-wise. Looking forward to seeing your submission later today.

Thank you. I've not really joined a lot of forums in my life, but this one has been great so far.

Thanks for the welcome! Looking forward to meeting and playing with you and many fine folks.

A classic...the one that ignited my passion for adventure paths.

Back Cover Text
In the sleepy coastal town of Sandpoint, evil is brewing. An attack by crazed goblins reveals the shadows of a forgotten past returning to threaten the town—and perhaps all of Varisia.

PC Creation Rules
15 Point Buy
Background Skills
2 Traits, No Drawbacks. One trait must be a campaign trait.
No Evil alignments.
Official Paizo material only.
1-3 paragraph backstory minimum. No maximum.
1-3 sentences about yourself.

What I Expect:
I will be accepting 6 applicants for this adventure. We will get through this adventure module. We'll likely start playing on the Jan 1st, 2020.

Some players may be new to the game. I do not have a complete knowledge of everything Paizo's put out for PF1 over the years. Be patient with yourself, your fellow players, and me.

Be ready to post every 24 hours. In order to keep things moving, your PC will be controlled by me if you do not reply within 24 hours. If you do not reply within 5 days without letting me know ahead of time, you will be let go from the game. Life disturbances aside, I will be ready to post at least twice a day. If you cannot post within 24 hours, please let me know. I will keep your PC moving in the story as long as you need.

Dice Rolls
To keep everything moving at a steady pace, I'll be making all initiative, perception, sense motive, and saving throw rolls. I will make knowledge and survival checks where I deem appropriate, but you can roll those at will.

About the GM:
Hello, I'm Wolfe (she/her). I've been playing TTRPGs for 13 years. I have recently moved and no longer have the ability to run a F2F game, and I found my way here. I'm looking forward to this new format and think that, overall, the pros outweigh the cons. It might end up being my new favorite way to play.

I'm a barista living in a small mountain city. I live a pretty simple, happy life here. I spend my free time looking for swimming holes, gathering wild foods, and creating native wildlife habitats in forgotten spaces.

Thanks for reading my post. I'm looking forward to reading your submissions.

That sounds fine to me. I'm a bit of a stickler for the rules anyway.

When we make it through the adventure, it shall be done. I'd love to get involved in PFS and now's as good a time as any. This will be my first PbP thing, so I don't really know how long it'll take to complete, but I am confident we will complete it with panache and aplomb.

This is where all the fun stuff happens.

Don't post anything here til your character has been approved by me.

For big questions or other things not related to the current place in the adventure, use this.

@Bigguyinblack My understanding is that for Pathfinder Adventures, you make a typical character and play the adventure in campaign mode. Afterward, I'd give you your sheet and you apply it to a PFS character.

That is what I'm getting from the blog post about it anyway.
If that's the case, I'm absolutely happy to give everyone a sheet for participating.

I'd like to start playing as soon as possible, but I understand that this time of year is full of life events that make it tricky. I assume this adventure won't start until after the 25th, depending on the amount of submissions I receive here.

As long as you have access to the same rules, I'm not going to nose about how you came by them. The SRD is available to everyone. I do urge you to purchase the books if/when you can, though.

Thank you for expressing your interest! I look forward to reading your submission.

What starts as a simple investigation quickly turns sinister with the discovery of forbidden alchemy, mutant animals, and a nearby forest rotting away due to a mysterious blight. It becomes clear that if these heroes don’t intervene to stop whatever evil is brewing, the fall of Plaguestone is all but certain!

This is a new format for me, and a new system for most/all of us. Be patient with yourself, your fellow players, and me.
