C'est la vie.

It was fun to play Froth again while the chance was there. See you around.

I'm travelling over the weekend, so I may not get a chance to post again until Monday, should anything be starting by then. Have a good weekend everybody.

Hey, that's great! I was just noticing that no one had posted in Gameplay or Discussion for about three weeks. Usually a game that lags that long is dead or dying, and so I was assuming that was the case here. Glad to know the game will be starting up again. keep me posted as to when everything is ready.

Since this game appears to be either dead, or running the risk of being abandoned at this point, anyone up for a stupidly insane frontal attack? You never know, it could be successful and revitalize some interest in this game; and if not, well it can kill it off in glorious fashion...

How large is the school, and where is it located? Are we out in the country, or downtown? Is the school a single building or tower, or a campus that sprawls miles? What kind of population does the academy feature? Private tutor size (a few dozen faculty and students), or University sized (30-50000)?

The green skinned giant stares down at his teammates for a few seconds.

"Ya, sneaking around isn't exactly a specialty of mine. And with that many wizards around, I'm not going to be counting on my Hat'o disguises to keep my beautiful mug out o' the limelight for long. I'm more of a bust down the front gate, kill everyone kinda guy, usually. Not that I'm keen to try that in a bloody wizard's academy."

"Any other ideas?"

Go ahead with the mission.

As for players, we have 4 left I presume? Me (Froth), Virgil, Rileng, and Pain? I am fine either way. This game has been moving very slowly, so some new blood could help get the momentum going, but it could also mean for a long break for recruiting. Really, I am fine either way.

As for Goals, Froth is a god, and the sooner he can get others to realize and acknowledge that, the better.

However, he takes the long view, and is not impatient, which is why he was willing to sign on to this company in order to get access to the resources of the society.

He was sired by an Eldritch horror more terrible than anything mere mortals could even envision might exist, and is so far above them that fighting over precedence and ego would be beyond a waste of time; like a man arguing over his social position within a colony of mice. Who cares what the mice think of you; the mice continue to live only because you have not yet decided to kill them - what they think is meaningless.

He knows that his power is not yet fully realized, however, and that though the vast potential in his blood is greater than anything a mortal could strive for, he is aware that he will need time and resources to draw the power to the surface, and within his grasp and command. So, in the meantime, he is happy to let the mice think whatever they want to think, and to fight over the social hierarchy. He will kill for them, and entertain himself while doing it, and when he is done he may kill them, or toss them aside or leave them behind; who really cares - they are mice, and as easily forgotten.

Bloodrager 4 / Adept Godling 4 | HP 50/50 | AC 20 (T 16, FF 14) | CMD 26 | F +10 | R +10 | W +10 | Init +2 | Per +12 {Raging: HP 56/56 | AC 20 (T 16, FF 12) | CMD 30 | F +12 | R +12 | W +14| Init +0 | Per +12}

Froth smiles as the men are dispatched, taking a conspicuously deep breath as the coppery smell of blood fills the small shack. Before they allow the weasel of a pirate to leave, Froth gestures for the others to hold him, while he heats the tip of his massive knife in the flame of their torch. Once it's hot enough, he takes it over to the man and marks him, slitting the nostril of his nose. He doesn't cut him, so much as let the knife burn its way through the skin, so the blood doesn't run, and the wound is cauterized shut. He reheats the blade and makes a second application, excising a "v" shaped wedge from the man's honker, so that even if he found a healer this night, the nature of the wound would remain clear. With a notched nose, every man he met for the rest of his life would know him marked as a thief and a coward. Once finished, he nods for the others to let him go.

As the rat flees, Froth's smile fades to a bit of a scowl. As they step towards the door, his appearance shifts from that of the red-skinned Teifling form he took before the encounter, back into the tall, dark-skinned sailor he had been earlier in the night.

Leaning in to Rileng as they wander out, he whispers, "As much as I hate to agree with the whiners, we prolly should have held onto him until morning, at least. The ship will be a lot harder to take if he does decide to head back there, whether they let him live or not. Pirates are a strange bunch; he may decide he can weave a story that makes him the hero - all the other witnesses are dead. The notch'll help, but nuttin's foolproof."

Seeing Joran outside, he gives the human a nod of acknowledgement, but not necessarily a deferential one. A bit paranoid by nature, he continues to take no chances. He scans the man for magic, and should he spot any illusory auras, he concentrates on seeing through them.

Will Save if applicable: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16

"Any more instructions, O' my captain my captain? We found their ship; desired outcome still the same?"

Froth stares at the first captive's face, glaring hell itself with the flickering flames of his eyes shedding a little inconsistent light, "First off, dumbass, a real pirate wouldn't say he's a pirate, because people hang pirates. A pirate would say he's an ordinary sailor, and put as much distance between himself and any suspicion of piracy that he could. Second, you should at least try to cover up your service tattoos when you try to lie like that, as if we hadn't had plenty of chance to see them already. Third, you really ought to take the man's advice; he's actually trying to do you a favour; what comes after this ain't pretty if don't cooperate..."

Froth nods in agreement with companion, double checks the captives bonds to make sure they are secure, and the gives each man a thurough search for weapons or escape tricks. When he's finished he pulls out his water bag, pulls the cork and squeezes out a good portion of the contents on each man. He positions himself so that the first thing they see upon waking is his illusionary face; one almost as ugly and terrifying as the real thing.

What!?! You mean Lucy was not 100% scientifically accurate?

Pretty easy to see why tales like that one won't die when Hollywood won't stop perpetuating them. Kind of like how every Psychologist in TV and movies is always a Freudian, we in reality pretty much nobody follows Freud anymore. (What made him special was pretty much just that he was willing to consider that more than just the obvious processes were going on, and come up with hypotheses to explain behaviours. The fact that he was wrong about pretty much all of them is incidental; his mistakes paved the way for later folks to find more accurate explanations. So in that respect, he just kind of tipped us off to the right path...)

In Rileng's defence, I think even non-psych people are aware to some degree that the 10% thing is a myth.

Hey has a Godling ability that allows him to use his Strength modifier in place of the typical stat for all his saves (including Reflex and Fortutude). How that is supposed to work in-game beats me, but mechanically it's pretty awesome for a strength based character like Froth. In fact, all of his saves increase when he is raging due to the increase in Strength. Add that to Good will saves from his class, and a +2 on will saves while raging, and there you go: +13.

"Thanks for the insight. I'll move around and come in from the far side. I'll be the big one killing pirates."

Froth moves down a side street and then through the alley, moving quickly and rapidly outpacing the slow moving gang of mostly drunken pirates. As he moves through the dark, unlit space between the buildings, he shifts his appearance from that of a 7 foot human sailor, to a devilishly handsome red skinned Tiefling, with a classic devil's tail and curling ram's horns. He pulls up short after his quick dash at the end of the alley. While he is paused, he pulls out a sharp looking blade, and starts tying the leather straps attached to it, affixing the weapon to his tail.

As he is preparing, he talks to his allies through the communication spell, "I'll get into position in front of 'em. No doubt I'll attract their attention. When they're focused on me, you can get the ball rolling by striking from the rear. I'll be the anvil, bring your hammer up from behind them, and we'll crush 'em in-between."

How many of them are there, anyway?

As the slower moving pirates approach his position, Froth casts a Shield spell upon himself, and then steps out to meet the approaching group.

Linguistics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

Putting on his best Chilaxian accent, Froth addresses the sober leaders of the troop, "Hey! Who's in charge of this rabble? I need to talk to you."

He waits for the commander to identify himself and approach the front of the group, if he's not already there.

When the team attacks, they'll turn around to see what is happening, and that's when I'll strike!

When they turn, Froth attacks full force, invoking his rage, power attacking, and going for the sober leaders first. If any drops, he'll immediately switch to the next one in reach.

As they disperse themselves, Froth takes a closer look at the half-orcs. While wandering around armed was not that strange (he was doing it himself), it was not exactly common either. Sailors don't tend to carry weapons, and non-seafarers didn't tend to spend much time in this part of the city. As a result, pirate was an automatically assumed possibility for this crew.

Looking for obvious signs that these guys are pirates, as well as anything that might provide additional clues.

Once they've cleared out, he makes a note of where they go, but then turns his attention back to his companions. "Next step? he whispers to them through the whisper spell, but loud enough that the nearby Pain can hear as well, "We have a crew of chelaxian soldiers posing as pirates in one of the taverns; kill them first? Should we leave someone out here to follow any that bolt, and to give warning if that crew across the street swarms over to help their allies?"

You sure that's a good idea? I'm pretty sure it's not. Hitting a guy after the fight has potentially ended just automatically restarts the whole fight; there is no point. Unless you want to get into a bloody melee in the middle of a busy street, let 'em go. It's just for now - if they are connected with the pirates, we'll kill them later. If they're not, you can kill them later. It'll be easier later besides as you can just murder them all (in their sleep if you want) instead of being outnumbered and in a stand up fight here and now besides.

DM's probably just hit a real-life speed bump; happens to everyone now and again. I've been quiet since I'm waiting for a reaction to my last post.

That's how I read it too; basically pick two spells from any spell-list and you can act as if they were on your own spell list.

"Syndicate members aren't allowed to die unless the Syndicate says so. Let's not forget what we're here for."

At that, Froth moves down the street towards the scuffle. He takes advantage of his appearance as a large human sailor, moving with purpose.

Once in range he shouts out in his loudest booming voice, "Oy, you lot! City watch is causing us enough trouble down 'ere without you bringin' 'em down on us! Take it somewhere else 'fore the lot of you get shoved off a pier!"

Oh, I must have been getting them mixed up. Am I around the tavern where pain is having his confrontation, or is that the one that is a few blocks away?

If he's that close, then I would imagine that he would be included in the message spell, and subsequent conversation, and should know what we know.

Wow, an intimidate of 13. That'll send 'em running!

Froth keeps still across the street. His eyes never moving from from the apparent task of keeping his pipe lit and enjoying his smoke. His hidden eyes however keep a keen eye on Pain, his new friends, and the rest of his own gang. He strains his ears to try and keep abreast of anything being said by the confrontation of folk across the street.

Edit: Do these orcs look like pirates as well?

P.S.: Froth speaks Orc when it comes to overhearing anything they might say to each other.

Double-Edit: I might have been getting my taverns mixed up, and might not be anywhere near that confrontation. I'm not sure...

If you are at the other tavern a few streets over, I think you'd be out of range of the Message spell the rest of us are using. I was just asking the others if we should try to let everyone know before starting the action.

"Hmm, Sleep, or maybe Colour Spray? Wouldn't count on them all going down too easy. Chelaxians may be over confident buffoons, but I imagine they would have selected men for this job they at least thought had a decent chance of pulling it off. They have to know whose toes it is they're stepping on. 'Spose it doesn't matter too much; if they don't go down the easy way, then we get to put them down the hard way!"

"Do we want to let any of the other teams know what we're doing? There appeared to be at least one table of possible pirates in the Bait Bucket, and those Orcs coming down the road could be headed to either place. We don't want everyone tearing off as soon as there's trouble; then we wouldn't get to kill 'em, like is proper."

"Interesting. The chelax bastards are playing at pirate in order to mess up Syndicate business, and we get to kill them for it. This could be fun!"

The big man pauses for a moment to take a few puffs on his pipe.

"So, what's our gameplan? Hit that place and kill them all, or just kill a few, maim a few more, and then follow the survivors back to their ship?"
