"Well ... it wasn't part of our deal with the wyrm, but he was lying. It was absolutely part of our deal with the village" Frey uses a little Presitigation to cause the letters of the poster to appear on the ground. "Over the past weeks, a creature some of us have come to know as the “Whitefang Wyrm” has been spotted lurking near our settlement, stealing fish from our nets and baskets and leaving nothing but wreckage in its wake. We believe the creature’s lair is somewhere on or across the ice floes of Whitefang Bay. As this creature poses a threat to the survival of all of Aaminiut’s residents, we have prepared a sack of ivory and oosik carvings from the Erutaki and silver bracelets and armbands from the Ulfen, payable to whoever ends the creature’s attacks on our food supply. Proof of the creature’s defeat must be presented to claim this bounty. -Elder Seshu and Bjorn the Blade" "So we must begin the grissly task of gathering proof ..."
DRACONIC:
"We would like to fight with fair warning and with understanding; I will impart the fair warning momentarily, if you would please share with me the understanding: we will simply have our strength tested? This is a duel? There are rules? Or we simply fight until either side concedes, with or without dying?" "I believe we will now fight with the wyrm to show our strength, possibly to prove that we are worthy representatives ..."
Richard Marsh wrote:
"and in fact, no, the poster did NOT have that written. The poster reads, 'payable to whoever ends the creature’s attacks on our food supply' ... and that would certainly be us if we create this deal." DRACONIC: "Yes, it does use more words than needed. It said that it agreed we should protect you and help you create a deal with the villagers. I told it you are not some stupid drake who would break his own word senselessly. Pact with us in honor, and we will uphold your honor with the village"
DRACONIC:
"I think it very possibly makes you one of the boldest and most courageous beings I might ever meet. A moment if you would, for those less educated than you & I." Frey turns to address his comrades "The young master has proposed returning to town with us to parley with the leaders on a protection agreement. My response was that I found the offer both bold and courageous: what say you team? For my part, I do in fact find this young one quite brave and not altogether foolhardy: because if we think we could handle him now, he would have to know that it would be easier in town."
Richard Marsh wrote:
"My apologies friend; I suggested to the wyrm that we might deal with this rationally if it would stop raiding, versus "less rationally" - keep your pistol primed, these types of drakes are NOT as cunning as their ancestors."

Thank you sir! Frey wants to be able to get an assessment of the creature, most particularly health & hunger: this is clearly new behavior for this creature and this community, it seems like maybe the party could figure out why instead of just killing it outright.

"Very true ... but in the absence of any kind of plan, we will be riding off to our death. A death of frostbite rather than glory most likely. Will we be staying in the wild? Will we camp? Will we huddle? Will we return? Will we proceed on foot across any length of snow? Does anyone have a polearm or staff to test ice at a distance? You all are welcome to race off: I will at least be buying snow shoes so that I can stay above the snowline and not suffocate." GM: you are welcome to respond for the team of course. I also wasn't sure if not offering to sell us feed meant that the teams attached to our sleighs do not eat ... or we simply didn't want to track that.
"My offer to cover the cost stands: but let's double down. Let's own this. Let's take him at his word, and BIND his word if that's all he's offering: just to see him squirm, let's take his offer, I'll cover that too ... and then let's remind him of what a kind & generous risk HE has taken, because if we die, he loses EVERYTHING."
Frey turns to look Bjorn directly in the eye, and telepathically wills his Wyrd, Harrow, to float just a touch closer off the back of his right shoulder ... "Bjorn my new friend, trusted advisor of the Northlands, we are not here in this tavern to rent sleighs, and these brave souls will not part with their silver yet for reasons unknown. Nor will I. I will part with my GOLD though, 2 pieces of gold, as you have asked, because you will committ to an Agreement of the Third Hand. You and I will make an agreement that when my new comrades and I are ready, you will meet with us, you will show us your wares, you will affirm to all of our gods collectively that they are the best you have to offer us, and you will give us your best advices on their use ... and the Lady Seshu will be the Third Hand who covers OUR hands when they are clasped and binds our truths to each other." Frey pulls out the 2 gold pieces and raises an eyebrow as he extends his hand "You are ready to bind yourself to me, correct?" If you're looking very very closely at Frey's face, there's an ever so slight upturn to the elf's lips

Frey smiles more broadly at the two leaders ... "In Varisia we are taught very very early that the only type of money which can possibly be bad money, is money that one has not earned; I would be very proud to help with this problem." Turning to the Goblin, he asks, "and you maestro, could you make a little mayhem in addition to music? I made study of wyrms when I was young, so I know I cannot solve this problem alone."
QM rainzax wrote:
"I have only just arrived and greeted my musical friend here: I am Frey Syltran of Magnimar. My instincts say this poster may in fact be your posting. Well met." Frey extends his hand, first to the lady
Frey does, in fact, know Ulfen! He moves about 10' closer to the poster.
Frey turns to the Goblin who was making music not that long ago ...
GOBLIN: "Excuse me Maestro, I hope I am not in your way; I wanted to read this poster. Well met."
It wasn’t that Frey wanted to escape, or even get away, so much as he needed a little time and space to adapt. Being a “witch” was a different type of transition than becoming anything else arcane, the transition could be very sudden, and while he might prefer to call himself a ‘rune channeler’, witch was a classification that wasn’t wrong by any means. So he started travelling north because he understood Ulfen people in many ways better than Varisans.
