So I have been noodling for some time how I would convert the Curse of the Crimson Throne Adventure Path to Eberron. While there are some old posts out there on the idea, most are just ideas. My notes ended up becoming a bit of a guide. I thought I would post this on Reddit, as even though it is quite detailed and a bit of a guide, I still have some questions that I am looking for ideas from others on. And any general comments to make improvements any way. I started this specifically on the Eberron reddit page to get more input from Eberron lovers, but thought I would post it here if anyone else wants to join the discussion and help out with completing this.

In the interest of keeping the conversation going, here are a number of ideas (influenced by this thread and others) I've considered for some of the APs. Not the "stupidly huge mash-up" versions, though, as those are WAY more involved...

** spoiler omitted **...

With Savage Pathfinder and the Rise of the Runelords coming out soon to Savage Worlds this conversation interests me more.

While Xen'drik for an ancient Giant Empire definitely fits, I don't like the idea of adding Sand Point on Xen'drik. Lore has been pretty clear that all attempts to settle cities outside of Stormreach (except for Dar Qat) have ended is disaster.

That being said I love the ideas that you have presented.

Some of the other things that I was thinking come from ideas from Exploring Eberron. Where maybe Xin-Shalast is in fact a Demiplane. Given this the giants could be changed to anything and be placed anywhere in Eberron. I have thought about placing it in Thrane and the influence of the Runelords actually be the influence of on of the Overlords.

So I thought I would add to this post. I love the Pathfinder AP and don't care for Golarian (or Pathfinder for that matter). I absolutely love Eberron Campaign Setting, and my now system of choice is Savage Worlds.

I ran a four year Carrion Crown campaign (I was using 5E for it) setting it in the Eberron Setting.

Carrion Crown:
I placed this AP in Karrnath. I plop in Lepidstadt and Ravensgro right into Karrnath cause whynot, the map was never meant to be exhaustive in Khorvaire.

I swapped the Whispering Way for the Emerald Claw, and yes they absolutely were working for the Lady Vol. I took what suggestions have already been made here in ultimately making Lady Vol a sympathetic misunderstood villain, but that wasn't revealed till the end.

I pretty much used most all the adventures as is, with my own custom tweaks. I had a player who in his backstory wanted his dad to have been part of the formation of the Emerald Claw, so his father and sister became high ranking players in the story arc working to the ends of Lady Vol.

Ravengro was a small town in the northwestern part of Karrnath. Lepidstadt I placed in between Atur and Korth. Broken Moon happened in the Night Wood. Illmarsh was a small fishing village on Lake Dark.

In between Broken Moon and Wake of the Watcher I had the party stumble on the an ancient library. Turned out to have bit of draconic prophecy there. The library was owned by an ancient green dragon. They never learned by this was a hidden home and this was non other than Vemonfang himself.

In Ashes at Dawn (taking place in Korth) in the vampire den, I had the party run into Kaius III. Kaius did not reveal himself as a vampire, but clearly the vampires followed him and deferred to him.

I completely scrapped Shadows of Gallowspire. I ended the campaign with the party traveling to Xen'drik to the Ring of Storms. The final ritual was happening at the heart of Siberys. Venomfang was there as well. My ultimate plan was that Lady Vol was going to be brought back to life, when she was, she was going to activate her dragon mark. Doing so would make her a god. A god of death that would actually shepard and care for the departed souls unlike the Keeper who hordes them. I planned that WHATEVER the party did was, what was meant to happen top make this end happen. When she "transitioned" she clearly thanked them for playing their part in the prophecy and where rewarded.

Where I to do it again, I would likely do just a smidge more globe trotting rather than keeping it largely in Karrnath. I would play up the draconic prophecy even more and from the beginning.

I stand corrected. It is a manifest zone to Dolurrh. A lot fewer inhabitant options there. =/

So I have been running this AP for over a year now. The party is playing this placed in Eberron.

I have replaced Ustalav with Karrnath. The Whispering Way is a cult working for the great good of Lady Vol.

They are closing in on getting to Wake of the Watcher.

I have placed the campaign in Karrnath and the Lhazaar Principalities.

For Wake of the Watcher, Illmarsh is going to be on the shores of Lake Dark. Thrushmoor will be replaced with Irontown.

I am not big on the whole alien angle and so am adjusting things (not a Chutulu fan here), the skum are going to be with Koa-Toa or Saughan. The church that is in town will be dedicated to the Blood of Vol.

I was thinking since Lake Dark is a manifest zone to Mabar, to replace the Mi-Go and more alien aspects with undead aspects that have come over from Mabar. Or maybe Yugoloth.

I am looking for some ideas to switch things around along these lines. Does anyone have any ideas??

You guys have any further thoughts on this? I am considering doing the same thing myself.

I like your idea of Vol not wanting to be undead, so maybe this is all in reverse, the "Whispering Way" is gathering things that would help her turn mortal again or at the very least, give her the semblence of life so that she can use her Dragonmark again.

I was thinking of switching the Whispering Way to be the Emerald Claw.

Karrnath makes the most sense.

Book 3: I was thinking of placing it in the Nightwood. Add a twist that between the spirit of the Vilkas and the some dormant protective magic of the Stairs of the Moon it kept the Lycanthropes in this forest shielded from being found out by the Silver Flame.

Book 4: Converting to Daelkyr monsters definitely makes the most sense.

The thing I am having trouble figuring out is who the Esoteric Order of the Palatine Eye would be switched to.

Did any of you end up converting this? I am considering the same thing and looking for ideas.

I was thinking of putting it in Karrnath as well. Switching the Whispering Way to the Emerald Claw.

Looking to Broken Moon I was thinking of placing it in the Nightwood. Thinking that the Vilkas and the some protective magic around the Stairs of the Moon have kept these Lycanthropes safe from the Silver Flame.

The Fourth adventure change the mi-go to a form of Daelkyr.

I am still trying to figure out who the Esoteric Order of the Palatine Eye would end up being. Not sure if I would keep as it, or convert to something else.

WtoW???

That is actually not too bad of an idea.

I was already thinking since I was looking at the 4th installment of the adventure path. I was not super thrilled with that adventure, and was thinking of changing it out with the original Ravenloft since it would be roughly around the same level range.

Doing some research I am thinking of plugging it into are a around Baldur's Gate and Amn and to the east. It would seem that the council of 5 and ruling order of Amn could be a comparable backdrop to Ustalav. I was definitely thinking that Candlekeep could sub for the Library of Lepidstadt. Turning the whole adventure path into town/encounter based locations in the realms rather than trying to recreate the whole of Ustalav. Anyone have some thoughts?

Greetings All,

I am really interested in converting the Pathfinder Adventure Path Carrion Crown to the Forgotten Realms setting. But not knowing the lore of Faerun that well, I am a bit at a lose as to where I would put it and who would be who. My players have gotten me sucked into the Forgotten Realms, but this is an amazing Adventure Path.

Damara and Vaasa seem like an interesting option. And there is Zhengyi already there. However considering how recently the Bloodstone Wars happened (within the last 100 years of the most current year) it seems like a bit much and the lack of the Whispering Tyrant (Zhengyi in FR) being gone for hundreds of years seems like it would take away from some of the mystic of what is happening in the Adventure Path.

What about somewhere else in the area of Amn to Netheril?

Are there any other major liches that have gone to legend in the Forgotten Realms?

What about the Cult of the Whispering Way trying to bring back the lich. Seems them being members of the Zhentrim? Some other cult? Make this a new cult?

I am really looking for some help as I do not know the Forgotten Realms that well.

Thanks

No one has any thoughts or information on this?

So I use Hero Lab and a question came up this weekend in the mythic campaign that I am a part of about the damage bonus on the smite.

I figured out what Hero Lab has been doing, but I am not sure if this is accurate or not. My initial look into the Mythic rules did not come up with anything and I wanted to see if it was accurate or not.

It seems that when i tick the Smite Button in Hero Lab it is adding level and HALF the Mythic tier to the damage.

The pally in question is 18 lvl/8 mythic. It would have normally been expected that the damage bonus for smiting would be +18 (or +36 on first swing) but it was adding +22 (or +44 for first swing).

Is this accurate or is Hero Lab off in this regard. I know there are other occasion math errors in Hero Lab so I do not trust it completely but I want to double check in case it was correct.

Thanks for the information.

Yea I am hoping to take a group of PC's through a huge Ustalav campaign involving the Carrion Crown.

I was thinking of starting the group off in Belkzen as a way of getting the group together and giving them an actual tie into the dead professor in Haunting of Harrowstone.

I was thinking a couple of side adventures in between AP would be fun.

All this with the intent of sending the group into Ravenloft (Expedition to Castle Ravenloft) after completion of CC or before the ending of the last AP or two. So I was looking for a campaign and adventures that would get the players accustomed and familiar with undead and horror themes so ramp up the Ravenloft part of the campaign and probably take it mythic.

So I was just thinking of a larger overall campaign involving the CC AP.

So I was looking for ideas.

Incidentally I have been reading Rule of Fear though not in detail as I continue to go through an initial read of all the CC AP's.

I do have Castles of the Inner Sea and Dungeon of Golarion, though I have not looked into either of them.

Thanks for the small leads.

Hey there everyone.

I am looking for modules that have been set in Ustalav. Preferably low to mid level range.

Or potentially/additionally modules that happen in the Hold of Belkzen would also do but these would have to be low level.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Ok that makes sense. Thanks for the response.

So I am learning about haunts and whatnot. Searching the forums has been helpful in answering most of my questions. However one is still outstanding.

What really does the notice roll have on a haunt encounter.

I mean once a haunt manifests then everyone would notice it, whether you are under it's effects or not.

Is the only benefit in noticing a haunt the ability to act in the surprise round before the haunt "grabs hold of you"?

Check out the classic: Expedition to Castle Ravenloft. It's D&D 3.5, converts to Pathfinder easily, and is a great adventure. I'm running it now. Average CR seems to be about CR 8. I converted the fortunetelling sequence to Harrow cards, to keep the Pathfinder theme. It's working very well.

Well actually this is why I am asking. I am planning on running this. I wanted to level up the PC's in other quests first. I wanted some of them to be undead related so the PC's gain some experience and inside into combating the undead.

Those sound great. While I am not looking for an exclusive undead adventure path, I plan on using it within a themed campaign that will have other adventures as well. I want the PC's to be well exposed to the undead with hopefully at one or two of them focused on slaying undead for where I ultimately want to take it. But all groups need to be rounded, so yea exclusively is not needed.

Excellent those would be great starting places. Any that are higher levels?

I am looking for some undead heavy modules. Any level range is fine.

But basically what of the current modules that pathfinder has put out are pretty undead heavy?

Hey there Everyone,

I am looking for which Adventure Path has the most Undead.

I am looking to level up a group of undead fighters for something beyond the adventure path. But would like the players to game some undead knowledge and experience.

So looking for an adventure path that has a bunch of undead in it.

Suggestions?

Seems Carrion Crown would have a bunch. Mummy's Mask perhaps?

Is this for the Pathfinder Card Game or the regular Pathfinder RPG game?

So when you buy a print version of any of these map packs will that automatically include the PDF version as well?
If it's a new release and part of your subscription, yes; if it's an older map pack that predates your subscription, no.

So then I would have to purchase the print and the PDF versions separately then huh?

So when you buy a print version of any of these map packs will that automatically include the PDF version as well?

Ok that all makes sense then.

Thanks for the info gents.

So I am relatively new to the game though with a solid foundation in old school AD&D.

I am a bit confused by prestige classes and archtypes.

Do prestige classes take the place of new levels? Add to?

So if I meet the requirements of a prestige class what does taking the prestige class mean moving forward? Do I still take regular class levels?

And what about Archtypes and how do they get implemented and work exactly?

Thanks

Phillip

Greetings Everyone,

Ok I am not sure where to start with the online gaming.

I use to be a pretty avid AD&D DM. Me and a small group of friends use to play a ton back in HS. I remember 3rd edition coming out, but I was too invested financially in AD&D to bother with the switch.

I have not played for 15+ years. I have played Dungeons & Dragons Online for the last 4-5 years.

So combined with the two I am well versed in the core concepts and ideas of the game. I certainly lack a lot of the polish and specifics of the game as it's changed.

I am wanting to get back into P&P and image my joy in finding that there is a ton of online gaming going on now. I have discovered Roll20 and have created an account and am trying to get involved in a couple of campaigns.

I am not totally clear on what PFS is and how it works. Seems it is sort of like a bit of a tournament type of play and character advancement.

I am just looking to do some gaming. Starting off with some playing, preferably with Roll20 cause it looks pretty awesome. I suspect I will get back into DMing here soon, but want to start off with playing to get my feet wet and relearn and learn the systems.

Is there any campaign that I could join, or anything that can point me in some good directions or anything of the like. It is seeming a bit overwhelming and difficult to get started in some campaigns and games.

Any help and direction would be very much appreciated.

Blessed Be

Freewolf

Looks like I might have jumped the gun. =)

As I am reading a little more information it looks like PFS is sort of set up like a tournament of sorts. All of which I have not done anything with =)

I am mainly just looking to get in some online campaigns and do some gaming.

Hey Jesse,

I just registered for the event in Warhorn.

I already have an account in Roll20.

I am pretty new to the whole online gaming aspect of all this.

I use to RPG a ton and am getting back into the swing of things here and am looking for some campaigns to be a part of.

Let me know what I need to do further.

Silas,

Put me into the WL. And if you are open I would love to sit in on the campaign. I have just discovered roll 20 myself and am interested in learning more and seeing how it performs.

Given the group I'd roll up a Cleric/1.
Likely a Dwarf.
