Looking over at Luke, Fredrick paused for a moment before speaking. "Both off these deaths appear to be very ritualistic, coming from the clean 'cuts' and removal of only one body part. The only major ancient society that I can think of that made a big deal of taking hearts would be the Aztecs. Was that one of the mythologies you investigated? If not, we may wish to look into that."
Finishing off the sandwich that he had stopped to purchase on the way back, Fredrick will wait until everyone else has spoken before leaning forwards slightly. "I tried to see if I could spot any clues to whoever may have done this on the rooftops above the alleyway, but I couldn't find anything. As for the far end of the alley, it simply ended at a small grouping of homeless shelters. So unless one of those other people in the alley was the individual who did this, we might potentially be up against an individual who can cloak themselves from sight." Would Luke have shared his lack of success in his research at the library?
Fredrick will attempt to move away in the opposite direction that Zenna is moving. He attempts to use his unassuming nature to its full advantage. Sneak+Non-threatening: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 4) + 1 = 11 Once he leaves the sight of the people around the alleyway, he will look towards the rooftops. Making sure that nobody is around him, he will find a dark corner of a few buildings. Feeling the increase in his strength that always comes from moving out of the light, he will quickly try to scale the building, augmenting his physical strength with a quick burst of thrust from his flaming wings. Once up there, he will look around to see if he can find any evidence of anybody else having recently been up there. Investigate+Stronger in Darkness+Jet Thrust: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 2) + 2 = 7
Entering the base behind Luke, Fredrick sees the new phones laid out and approaches the small table. Picking his up, he thinks Well, at least these ones have actual buttons. None of that touch-screen nonsense. Turning to look at Donovan, he speaks up to ask "So Donovan, any particular reason for new phones?" Then hearing the request for coffee from Luke, he will nod in his direction before heading off to fetch him a cup. "Anyone else want anything while I'm at it?"
Seeking to calm down Mr. Sapataro, Fredrick will speak up. "Mr. Sapataro, we are simply a group of associates with a series of shared interests. I know that we may seem like a disparate group, but we work together bette than it would seem. Now, your son said that he had sometimes been hearing strange noises out of the shop at night. Have you ever heard anything? Another thing, have you ever seen things happen around you that seemed strange, but everyone else treated them as something other than what you saw? Also, you mentioned that you 'felt' that these shoes, with this specific pattern, were particularly appropriate for me. Have you felt that for other people before, especially with specialty one-of-a-kind shoes, or was I the first?" Investigate: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 6) + 1 = 12 +1 Non-threatening Is Mr. Sapataro a Rift?
Slightly disorientated by the sudden change in location, Fredrick will grip the arms of the chair he sits in to steady himself. Focusing on the shoes that he is now wearing as an attempt to orient himself, he is taken slightly aback by the pattern he notices along the innerfolds. Leaning slightly forward as he traces in the air slightly above the pattern, he looks to Mr. Sapataro questioningly. "Is this pattern a standard for shoes you make?"
Feeling the longing building inside him as he examines the various shoes on display, Fredrick will force himself to temporarily turn away from them. Walking up beside Luke, he says "Well, I would certainly appreciate a new pair of shoes. Maybe even two!" Chuckling slightly, he continue, "But before that, my friend should finish asking his questions."
Fredrick will have accompanied Luke back to Sapataro Shoes, wishing to speak more with Mr. Sapataro. However, upon seeing the shoes in the light of day, he will walk over and look at them closer. For now, he is content to let Luke speak with Mr. Sapataro, but is still listening to their conversation.
Personally, I would prefer a combination of the first two options that you give (you deciding by yourself and us talking about it), but I would definitely disagree with the last option. I know that for at least one of my mysteries, I have an idea of what the answer could be, but you should still have the final decision. If nothing else, we could give suggestions about one of our mysteries and let you decide on the other.
"No, I wouldn't want to break in either. It would make them distrust us, and would just be generally rude." Craning his neck slightly as he looks towards the upper floor, he rubs at the back of his neck for continuing. "If nothing else, I guess we could simply ring the doorbell and hope nobody is to asleep. Or we could try meeting up with the others before returning, lending us some legal support for waking them up this late at night."
Previously Stopping as he recieves the message from Luke, Fredrick fishes his phone out from one of his pockets. Seeing the message, he tries to send a reply. However, as normal, he isn't quite able to get the message correct. "Bah, why did I let them insist on me getting one of these 'Smartphones'? As if a phone could be smart! And why must something have gone bad after such a nice meal?" That said, he puts his phone back in his pocket and picks up his pace as he continues walking towards Fey Spirits. Now Seeing the crowd around the bookstore, Fredrick slows down to a more normal walking pace. As he approaches and sees the body, he has to turn away and force himself to not throw up. Managing to pull himself together, he turns to one of the nearby people and asks them "Do you know what happened here?" Investigate: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 3) + 1 = 8 +1 Non-threatening What happened here?
Slowly standing up from his chair, Fredrick will put back on his trench coat and hat. Stowing his book in one of the large interior pockets of the coat, he will say "I think that I will go get a bite to eat, as I didn't have time for a large lunch, and it has been a while since breakfast. I am thinking of going to Marco's Pizzeria down the street, or maybe the steak place over on Kingwood Street. Anyone feel like joining me?"
Shifting position slightly, Fredrick responds to Leighton "Yes, much better. I have found that if I partake in my hobbies more my dreams get better." Pulling out the last of what was in the bundle, he holds up a book, roughly the size of a small dictionary. "See? Just before I came in here, I saw this book up in the store. It is all about caring for and refurbishing various Medieval suits of armor. Normally, I don't wind up getting particularly interested in these books, as I already have a shelf full of them. But this one was written by Fraswau, a renowned expert in the field, so I knew that I to purchase it."
Coming in through the door from the bookstore, Fredrick enters with a small bundle under his arms. The elderly gentleman, with his silver air and bushy mustache, has clearly been out o the ain for a short while, as his heavy trenchcoat is no longer dripping water. Setting the bundle down on a side-table near the coat-rack, he takes off his dark-gray fedora and long, black trench coat and hangs them from the rack. This reveals a nice, but rather old-fashioned, suit and bow-tie. Quickly looking around the room, and seeing that everyone else is here, and says "Ah, I see that I am the last to arrive. I trust that I did not arrive too late? It doesn't appear as if you have met with whomever it is that we are meeting today. Anyway, sorry for the delay, the crowds were thicker than I anticipated they would be. Also, since the weather was bad outside, I spent a little time preparing these." As he says the last bit, he goes back to his bundle and pulls out three decently sized thermoses, each of which has a distinctive label. He also pulls out a small stack of cups, enough for everybody to have two, including any guests. "I brought Tea, Coffee, and Hot Chocolate, if anybody wants some of those. I'll just set them over here," he says, walking over and placing the thermoses and cups on the coffee table. Seeing the chairs, he will look at them for a moment before recognizing them. "Ah, I had wondered where the old chairs from the bookstore had gotten too. I think I remember this one as being quite comfortable." Settling himself down into the chair he has selected, he leans back and relaxes. Pulling a pair of reading glasses out of the inside pocket of his suit, he takes a moment to quickly clean them with a small cloth before putting them on. "Well, anyone want a drink? I can pour if you wish."
Here is my vote on the tags. WHERE DO YOU MEET, WORK, REST, OR PREPARE FOR ACTION?
HOW DO YOU HELP, ASSIST, OR SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER?
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED TO DO WELL TOGETHER?
WHAT PLACES OR SITUATIONS DO YOU FIND TOUGH TO HANDLE?
Quite a few of our characters are wealthy actually, at least to one degree or another. With that in mind, any of their homes could likely work, as there is likely space enough. There could even be a rotating shift of whose place to do stuff at, so that no single individual has to take the brunt of the effort, or give up too much of their personal space. That said, Fredrick would likely be the first to volunteer to house the "batcave," for one main reason, in that it keeps him that much closer to his collection/hoard. Alternatively, we could have pooled some money to buy/rent/etc... some form of apartment/small house/etc... to use as a base of operations. This way it would be a neutral location, and potentially that much easier to keep secret.
Ah, sorry for the misunderstanding. Looking at it again, I can tell that they are two separate things. Between the two, I think that the Masked Vigilante Investigations is the best overall choice. Speaking of you thinking out loud, I don't mind at all. It allows me to see my chracter from a second perspective, which is very helpful. And yes, the tie-in was on purpose. I thought it particularly fitting for somebody who channels a Dragon to feel the need to collect a specific type of item. As for the rest of what you say, that was more or less what I had in mind. The connection between Fredrick and Luke could also work quite well. As for the "Held at Home", yes, it is the answer to that question. To be honest, that is the main part of the character that I was having some difficulties with, as I was having issues coming up with anything else at the time. I am fairly sure that I will be changing it. Currently I am thinking of replacing with "Heavily Insured," or something similar.
Unless GM Default has any more recommendations for me, or unless any of you other lovely players have questions or recommendations, I believe that I am good to go as far as my character is concerned. As far as the Crew Theme is concerned, I think that the Masked Vigilantes option is interesting, as is the option of us investigating supernatural events around the City. The first option would be slightly more difficult to integrate my character in, as he has no direct connection that I can see. If we are taking Wade's suggestion from earlier: Wade Walton / Huli Jing wrote: The masked vigilante sounds intriguing, considering we have two policemen in our ranks. And The Event could be some kind of crime that touched everyone - Wade and Leighton were the detectives on the case, Zenna snooped around for an inspiration, Luke was stealing something, Fredrick - I'm not sure here and Vrog's character (Donovan, right?) was the main suspect. That's when everyone clicked. Perhaps Fredrick could have been involved because the victim of the crime was a close friend/previous business associate/person he was going to make a purchase from. Any one of these could have connected Fredrick to the event, especially if it was the last one. |
