Male Strix Alchemist 3

When everyone gets back to the tree house, Fray stays outside and feeds Horace. He talks to him a bit to calm his nerves. "You wouldn't believe the day I've had. These damned fools are trying to get themselves killed. I honestly don't know where they'd be without me... Face down, dead in that swamp, I'd wager."

Fray pets Horace before collecting himself and returning to the tree house.

Male Strix Alchemist 3

"They'll not be raised as zombies. That we can be sure of. Acid takes it's time on bones though... Are you quite familiar with your skeletal structure?" Fray half smirks at his failed attempt at a joke.

"At least the shock of seeing your old bodies shambling at you is gone I suppose. Shall we tell the others, or let them rest easily thinking that the whole of their corpses are destroyed?"

Male Strix Alchemist 3

Fray flies to the ground and begins running, still holding Castell. As he runs, he removes a wand from his bag and pokes the Tavi with it. He then releases him.

Wand of Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
49 uses left.

Oh I meant after I threw down the bombs.

If the witch squints, she can see Fray doing this.

"Aye, my sanity if this keeps up. I know not of your relationships with the others, but do you hold the same animosity towards Sarrissa? It may sound crazy, but it's possible your instincts as a mongoose are to kill snakes and the like. Haha!" Fray lets out a hearty laugh at the ridiculous notion.

"Though I can assure you that you look no more appetizing to me than you did before the change, so you can rest easily on that point. ...Errr. Do you remember the location of the lake? I seem to have... lost track of my direction. "

Male Strix Alchemist 3

"Hmph... I know not of what you speak. I hold more contempt for others than normal." Fray looks down at Castell and the smile fades from his face.

Fray sighs. "To be honest, there is a strange illness that overcomes me when I think about... people in general. A byproduct of the transformation perhaps?"

Male Strix Alchemist 3

"I haven't the foggiest. Care to elaborate?"

Male Strix Alchemist 3

"Hold there mouse. I thought in exchange for me taking care of the bodies we had agreed Sarrissa would preserve my body and I'd procure a cart to transport it? Why is there a burial site involved now!?"

Fray's grip loosens a bit as the upsetting thought distracts him. Flying roughly 60ft in the air, he notices Castell slipping a bit and readjusts his grip.

Male Strix Alchemist 3

"You know, for a mouse, your instincts to avoid birds is abysmally low." Fray smiles down with sharp teeth at Castell.

"Mission accomplished by the way... So what's the plan? Return to the tree house?"

Male Strix Alchemist 3

Grab the Tavi: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 isn't there some bonus or penalty for size difference too?

Fray sees Castell take a great blow to the neck and feels a writhing in the pit of his stomach.

What is this feeling. It's dangerous down there, but I'm compelled to... help? Mayhaps this new form clouds my mind.

Fray thinks it over for a moment before drinking down his vial of mutagen. After a short pause, Fray distorts a bit almost in a painful cringe, as his avian-like hands grow claws and his teeth elongate and sharpen. His muscles bulge and a silvery sheen spreads over his body and feathers. After the transformation, Fray regains his balance and swoops down towards the fleeing group. He grabs Castell with his new found strength and attempts to take back to the skies.

Male Strix Alchemist 3

Fray stays high in the air, gazing down upon the glowing figure, the witch, and the rest of his group.

Well... shit.

Fray hangs a left to circle back around, should the rest need air support.

Male Strix Alchemist 3

Bombs bombs bombs :D

Male Strix Alchemist 3

Fray flies high over the witch and the bodies, enough so that he can make an escape before the bombs actually land. As he reaches for a few bombs, he suddenly remembers the pain he suffered just before being reincarnated.

I shall have to make sure I am nowhere to be seen when these drop.

Fray circles around so that he's flying towards the group, with the witch along his path.

I know they said fire... but for good measure...

Fray removes a vial of acid from his pack, and prepares to drop it along with 3 bombs. Accounting for any wind resistance, he drops the bombs and acid a bit before the witch to account for his movement. As soon as the bombs are dropped he flies as quickly as he can towards the others.

Conviction? This was a fool's errand from the start, Castell, Merek says as he jabs a finger towards him.

You want conviction? Try praying a bit more. try coming to the church more often. Try devoting yourself to protecting everyone - anyone! - rather than earning an extra silver bit at the bar. Try...

Merek snaps his jaws shut with an audible clack once he realizes that he is being insulting.

He drops his hands and lowers his head.

He drops down to his knees and gets eye level with Castell, I Apologize, my friend. If burning the bodies is what you need to move on and heal, then burning bodies is what we must do. But we must do this intelligently. We must distract her or...

Merek pauses to think for a second. He recalls a certain incident from the previous day, where the witch cried out in pain. Smiling, he looks towards Fray.

Or we must enlist the help of a certain flying, bomb-throwing, fire loving, self-indulgent bird.

Fray cracks a sly smile as he was already adjusting his bombs. "I'm on it." he states plainly. His wings fold out and a burst of wind kicks up dirt as he takes off towards the swamp.

Male Strix Alchemist 3

...aaaaaand turning around

Fray flies back to the edge of the swamp where the party is approaching.

"My sincerest apologies. The witch seems to have... taken a liking to your corpses..."

Male Strix Alchemist 3

Oh I'm planning on whacky hijinks, I assure you. I doubt I'll get to hold onto my body as long as it would require to raise dead, but at the moment, this is all Fray wants.

Male Strix Alchemist 3

"I will fly over the swamp to locate the bodies. It shouldn't take more than two or three trips at the most if I work fast." Fray says as he stretches out his wings.

Male Strix Alchemist 3

Fray perches at a window before leaping out and taking flight. He flies down to the base of the tree and waits for Edgar to climb down. "I'm more than capable enough to retrieve the bodies myself. I don't need you slowing me down or alerting the witch. I would appreciate help at the edge of the swamp though, if my activity does draw the attention of any nasties... and I shall require help transporting all of the bodies back. By the way...do you have a blanket of some sort? Touching rotting corpses isn't exactly my idea of a day in the park. "

Male Strix Alchemist 3

My rolls... legendary.

Male Strix Alchemist 3

"The witch had no trouble finding us before, though the though of your bodies rotting in some swamp must feel unsettling. For the record... I am extremely against this idea, but once again..." Fray spreads his wings out and motions to the bottles an vials hanging from his garments. "I seem to be the most well equipped for the job. In exchange for Sarrissa's continued help... I can recover your bodies...

Male Strix Alchemist 3

"I believe re-entering that Gods forsaken swamp would be suicide. Should I find a way to return to my body, it would not prove too useful to the rest of you provided you do not have your bodies, though exploring multiple roads to a final destination increases our chances dramatically. Though having me back as a ...human" Fray says that last word with a hint of disgust in his voice. His eyes widen in surprise at himself.

What The devil was that!?

Fray shakes his head, trying to force out this strange new feeling of animosity towards his prior race.

"At the very least, I can offer you all refuge in my home until I can figure something out." Fray stares off into nothingness, extremely confused.

Male Strix Alchemist 3

" The thought slipped my mind" Fray motions dismissively.

"I appreciate the assistance of course," Fray bows to the looming bugbear, "but don't act as though returning me to my body is a solely selfish endeavor. None of you thought to recover your bodies. Returning you to your former selves may prove more difficult than for myself, this is true, though wouldn't you think that having me returned would prove a useful tool to a merry band such as yourselves? Someone to interact with the civilized world and not be slain on site? Someone from a wealthy family with the resources and skill to even /find/ a way to fix all this?" Fray pauses a moment to let his words soak in.

"In return for your services, and assuming I cannot simply conjure up an effective concoction as a monster, I will work towards finding a solution that doesn't involve poking around abandoned ruins for scraps of food and equipment." Fray glances around the room to read the mood.

Male Strix Alchemist 3

Sorry. Work's been hell. I've either been asleep or there. Posting a response today.

Male Strix Alchemist 3

"Have we resigned ourselves to this fate so easily? My body /can/ be saved an you want to put it in the ground!?" Fray yells, blood clearly boiling. "It is not unheard of for a soul to be returned to a body, is it not? You holy types do it all the time, don't you? Or hell, I may find a way through my alchemy. But if my body is destroyed, I have no chance! If it's appearances you worry about, I can purchase a covered wagon from town to carry my... corpse. Monsters will be slain on site either way, as you've said, why not just have my horse carry the cart? Seems a simple matter to me if we are to be traveling either way. Plus a cart will offer you a place to hide if we are confronted and I can use my alchemy to appear human." Fray pauses to catch his breath.

"It seems quite simple to me, really."

Male Strix Alchemist 3

Fray ties the pack saddle to the rope and shouts up to Sarrissa. "Thank you, dear. Now that I think of it, where did you put my old body? I need to find a way to preserve it best I can."

"I do not trust this new body climbing a ladder or flying with this much weight."

Fray secures his horse to a tree a bit from Zveris' tree house and shouts up to the others inside. "Excuse me! This pack is quite heavy, may I have some assistance?"

the change mananges not to startle the animal too much this time, and it, semi-reluctantly, keeps following.

Fray pats his horse. "...You're getting a name. ...Horace." Fray nods to himself, pleased.

"Well my apologizes then. I must be off." Fray pockets the note and leads his horse out of town back towards Zveris's place. As soon as he gets out of town he removes the pack saddle from his horse and straps on a military saddle. He leads the horse forward knowing his extract will soon wear off.

The horse may run when I change back. At least I'll have my things though. Fray grunts under the weight of the pack.

Male Strix Alchemist 3

"Well, it would seem my... colleague... doesn't have as famous a family as he believes." Fray chuckles to himself.

"I believe he mentioned a wizard adviser of some Jarl? He assured me they're 'kind of a big deal' or something?" Fray says rolling his eyes.

Male Strix Alchemist 3

"Splendid! Splendid. I have need of one such as yourself. This letter needs be delivered quite hastily to one-" Fray stops short, realizing Chris never gave him a name.

"It was given to me by Chris.... uh... Fffff..."

I really need to start gathering more information before I do things like this... Wait... when was the last I helped anyone?

Fray looks down at the note and exclaims. "Ah HA! This seal. You recognize it, no?"

Male Strix Alchemist 3

Fray approaches the man with letter in hand. "Good day sir. Might you be a courier, perchance?"

Male Strix Alchemist 3

Fray walks the horse to a shop where he can find potion materials and ties it to a nearby post. He hastily collects what he needs, 75 gold worth of materials and pays the merchant. As he steps away from the shop he removes the sealed letter from his pocket and asks a passerby where he might find a courier.

Male Strix Alchemist 3

I have the day off so I'll try to rush through this part so we can all get back to playing. I thought about asking someone to come along in case things got hairy(no pun intended Sarrissa and Castell), but I figured a bugbear rushing into town would probably go against our best interests.

Male Strix Alchemist 3

Fray walks casually over to the horse and exclaims, "Ah! Here's where my horse ran off to! 'Combat trained' my arse! That merchant shall get quite an ear full!"

Fray gently goes for the horse's reigns.

Male Strix Alchemist 3

Fray flies high in the sky above the town looking for guards, patrols, and people entering or leaving the town. After surveying for a bit, he lands far enough away from town to not be spotted(preferably near trees or thick foliage), and drinks his extract of disguise self. He takes on the visage of his former self. Ahh... Good to be me again.

He makes his way into town hastily, as the extract only lasts a half hour, and begins searching for his horse.

Male Strix Alchemist 3

Gecko plate!

Male Strix Alchemist 3

Before climbing down, Fray pokes his head back up through the trap door.
"It matters not to me what you decide, as long as it works towards the ultimate goal of getting back into my body."

Male Strix Alchemist 3

As the others discuss, Fray clears out his pack in preparation for purchasing what he needs. "I'm off. I should be back fairly soon. My extract does not last indefinitely unfortunately."

With that he opens the trap door, climbs down the tree a few yards, then takes off into the air towards town.

I've actually had to retype a post because I was using my larger vocabulary choices in his speech, when he should be sticking to single syllables and repeating words. I just can't make myself reuse the same word in a paragraph if there is a better alternative... I have to focus on using my long words and turn of phrase in description instead of speech...

If you're going for an English major, then this will be really good practice for you when you're writing a character with lower education or intelligence, or writing for a crowd with a lower education level.

For example, if you have to write a speech for a group of elementary students or for a jury in a court of law.

xD The jury comment busted me up

I'm sorry, I gotta ask, how do you have a +9 to survival with a +1 Wis, no ranks, and no racials?
scent. He doesn't quite know he's doing it though, just an instinct now.
You can follow tracks by sense of smell with survival, negating penalties for surface conditions and poor visibility, but I don't think you get a +8 to the check. Scent gives a +8 to perception to detect scents, so I think you can perception to check for your trail, then survival to follow the trail back. I don't mean to be anal, but scent is powerful as is lol
While I'm glad to be learning more about the system, I'm not sure I understand the difference here. Are you saying I should be using perception instead of survival or that what I'm doing should not work? I do want to learn aboutthis now before it becomes important.

Track is kind of like a sub skill off of survival. Things that add to track do not add to survival. Kinda like I have a +2 to stealth, but only in dark or dim light. You have a +8 only when using scent to track something.

Male Strix Alchemist 3

Fray takes the note from Chris and eyes the seal. "That you would think that the contents of your note would interest me enough to see me break the seal and read it for myself is laughable. I won't have much time, so a courier will have to suffice. " Fray pockets the note and gathers this things.

"Anyone else?"

Male Strix Alchemist 3

Fray finishes up his alchemy and begins putting his kit away.

"Well, as you all have surely guessed by now, I seem to have had my alchemy kit on my person this entire time. My horse is not completely necessary at this point, though I do have a lot of equipment and items of convenience in the pack saddle. I have figured out a way to retrieve the horse, or at the very least, the goods on it." Fray swirls the contents of a small vial so everyone can see. "I plan to pick up some necessary materials in town and retrieve my horse. Assuming some hooligan has not claimed the horse for his own and is less than agreeable concerning returning my goods, I may... have to convince him." A wicked smile crosses his face.

"If anyone needs anything, I may be able to acquire it. Just be sure to speak up before I head out."

Fray laughs to himself. "Beasts have Gods? That's rich."

His wings hover just a little to close to his alchemy set and he singes a few feathers. Cursing, he forcibly pushes his wings behind him.
