I think that puts Ray up. If not, we can just use this post when it is his turn. Ray again targets the nearest enemy and fires. I don't see a label on him, so I don't know what to call him. The guy flanked by allies near Ray.

I just realized I made a mistake. I was looking at the other game I am playing with our GM- the Core game. I probably shouldn't be running the same character on two tables. If it's alright, I can switch to one of two characters.

Side note: I love how many GMs are using their preferred platforms in their philosophies. I see that a few use Google Slides, and I am kinda hoping that I can get pointed to a tutorial on using it because a lot of people ask for it in PBP. (Especially since I usually use Roll20, which doesn't work for mobile players.) ![]()
Rough draft (with much borrowed from Lantern). Hello! My name is Jim, and that rhymes with "him," and that's my pronoun. I would like to use your pronouns whenever possible- in and out of character. If you are willing to share them, please do so. And please respect the pronouns of your teammates. Player Guidance: what I am hoping to get from you. Team respect: We are all on the same team in Society. We want to play through a story and move our characters forward in their journeys. We all do better when we all do better. In-fighting hurts this, so please respect your teammates. I don't want jokes about real-world genders, sexes, races, religions, or other factors. Time management: Please post something daily when possible. It helps to move the story along, and stops you from getting too lost. If you have a couple of days when you know you will be busy, please let us know. We can bot you during combat to a degree, but I would like to let players actually play their characters. I will usually allow 24 hours to react if nobody else has done so. Null posting. If you have nothing to say, please say that. It greatly speeds up gameplay. Many of us are polite enough to give everybody a chance to roll, but if you don't have anything to add, saying so can stop us from waiting. Marching order. Please let me know who will generally go first into new areas so I know who needs to roll Perception for traps and other hazards. Please list your AC, Saves, Sense Motive and Perception modifiers, and maximum HP in your profile header. I will try to keep track of how much damage everybody has taken during combat, so you should not have to change every time you are hit. Descriptions are good. Many Society scenarios encourage GMs to award bonuses to players who describe a skill check in particularly vivid ways. Some people do this before rolling, or afterward (to explain why they think they succeeded or failed). I like this mechanic, so it is a good idea to give me details if you have the time. Initiative flexibility. In PBP games, I tend to roll all of the enemies' initiative together. This means that we do not have to wait for specific players to take their turn at the beginning of a round- rather, there is the PCs' turn and the enemies' turn. I will try to keep track of what special effects happen when, but feel free to remind me if I miss something. Self-botting. If your character has a go-to action or reaction that they are likely to use when you cannot post, please let me know. (Again, I will try to give you a day to respond, but I may need to move things along.) My Boundaries:

I will use my main as my GM alias, if it works. Sorry I have been a bit out of posts the past week. Fittingly, I am getting ready to run a PF2 game for a high school class. That has eaten a lot of my time. I want to touch on a few things I didn't get to earlier. First, language matters a lot to some groups, and it's important to know what everybody is talking about. As was pointed out, "railroad" is usually said and taken in a negative light. "Off-road" sounds more adventurous, but doesn't convey the same stress that it can put on people who don't want to be in the situation. I have had GMs who wanted me to stick to a specific path, and I have had one who wanted me to play a specific class, use specific weapons, and wear a specific color scheme on my armor. That is my go-to for "railroad" games. On the subject of learning from good/bad GMs, I think we tend to learn from bad ones more because good ones rarely take the time to talk about their mistakes. We talk about bad GMs because of the things they do, but we focus less on the performance of good GMs. (The same thing happens in theatre with anybody backstage.) I think I may have been one of the GMs Lantern mentioned earlier. During a PBP, I kept waiting for certain players to roll checks so the plot could move forward, and they would put it off for 3-4 days. By the end, a couple of people dropped the scenario, and we added a pregen so we could finish on time. I learned some ways to handle that problem afterward, but in the moment, it was embarrassing. ![]()
I don't have much to add that others haven't already said. I like to think of the GM as a director in a play with a lot of improv. Organized Play scenarios may have points we need to go through, but other games really allow the party to go in a lot of directions. We just need to make sure that the cast (players) stay within the bounds of what we can do and get away with. Acceptable forms of humor, appropriate limits to zaniness, whathaveyou. ![]()
Hello, all! I started playing at the tail end of AD&D/dawn of 3.0, and played occasionally from high school through college. I played a couple of Pathfinder games when it came out and through the 2010s, but not much. Standard "always LFG" stuff. Around 2018, I played PFS at a convention. I didn't get to do much for the next few years, but then I found myself between projects and discovered a local shop that had Starfinder Society games. I played a few games of that and Pathfinder, GMed my first in-person PFS game... and the COVID shutdowns began the next day. The group who had been running through the local store started running the games online, and I kept active there. After a month or two, I asked if I could run some. I got active enough that I have earned one nova every year since. I also ran a group through the PF1 "Second Darkness" AP. I have only played a couple of PF2 games, and I want to learn more about running the system. But I am also here to see what I can learn about running PBP in particular. I have played quite a few scenarios this way (Hi Kludde!) but I don't know how to run certain programs and I don't know where to go for tutorials. My current PBP games use Roll20 for maps, and I have had a few people request that I use something else. ![]()
Cool characters, tough choices. I can see scenarios getting really interesting depending on each of their campaigns, and I honestly don't know which I want the most. I get that "Nykiti Lampadephoros" may be hard to say at first, but for me it feels like one of those obstacle courses where you step in tires. Once you say it right, it feels cool to know you can!
