Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
As Felixian checks the enemy corpses, he notices a copse of herbs. Gathering a handful, he returns to the group. "May I be of assistance? These herbs have healing properties." Pulling out his amulet, he offers a quick prayer to Erastil and applies the herbs to the wounds of anyone who is willing.
1d6 ⇒ 6
If you're okay with it, I'm reflavoring Channel Energy. If that's a problem, please disregard my post. :-)
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Seeing the cart pullers are in trouble, Felixian rushes to their aid - maneuvering himself into a flanking position with someone, he strikes with a claw.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 2 = 16
Damage: 1d4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 = 5
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Felixian grunts in pain but continues his assault on the Saurian.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 2 = 7
Damage: 1d4 + 2 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 + (5) = 9
Attack 2: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 2 = 20
Damage: 1d4 + 2 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 + (2) = 7
Rend (if both attacks hit): 1d6 ⇒ 4
I swear, this is the most 1s I've ever rolled with one character....
EDIT: forgot to add the Bardic Performance bonuses. everything should be +1
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
At least you hit. :-(
EDIT: And I don't think you added the 1d6 from Precise Strike. It's another opportunity to roll a 1, lol.
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
@Nyx: did you include your 2d6 Sneak Attack?
Felixian moves to the nearest Saurian, waits for Nyx to assume her regular flanking position, and lets loose with his claws.
5ft step
Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 2 = 9
Damage: 1d4 + 2 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 1 + (2) = 9
Attack 2: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 2 = 7
Damage 2: 1d4 + 2 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 + (4) = 8
Rend (if both attacks hit): 1d6 ⇒ 5
EDIT: Forgot to make my Fortitude save.
Fort Save DC 12: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Sounds good. :-) I use Google Docs in my campaigns and will be happy to assist if needed.
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Felixian mutters a quick prayer. "Oh, great Erastil, please grant us your protection if we must do battle. "
Casting shield of faith. AC block should be 19/13/16 for the next minute.
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Felixian smiles and nods his head respectfully when Nyx introduces him but stays quiet. He nods to Thanquol, "I'm ready when you are."
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Back in town and ready to roll! Taking the rest of tonight (and maybe tomorrow) to relax but then will be back in earnest. :-)
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
FYI: the anxiously-awaited Whack/Katsune wedding is tomorrow. We'll then be honeymooning, so no contact with the outside world for several days. In other words, we'll be AFK until probably the 10th. Feel free to GMPC us as needed. :-)
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Are we still doing this, or are we taking a break for the holidays?
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
I thought it was Nyx? She's the one who found it, IIRC.
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
I love necromancers and play a Priest of Urgathoa in PFS. :-) Felixian, on the other hand, we'll just have to see. Good news is he's never been particularly religious and doesn't know a whole lot. He might recognize a holy symbol or two but won't know the tenets - at least until he gets a few more points of Know(religion). :-)
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Felixian nods his head. "Yeah, it would be a little weird having your every move be watched. But, hey, Dad had lots of people he cared about, so I'm sure if he's keeping an eye on us, it's not constant. He's probably pretty busy wherever he is. And we have been very lucky." A thought strikes him. "That box you found with the stegosaurs: did you ever get it open?"
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Felixian gives a slight nod. "Remember those sayings Dad would always tell us? About the importance of family and community? Well, it turns out they come from this book." He pulls a leatherbound text partway out of his pack. It's titled Parables of Erastil. "Somebody's been watching out for us, and I think it's the deity Erastil. The little bit I read last night makes sense and matches what Dad taught us, so I thought I'd have a symbol made out of respect."
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Just a heads-up, everyone. Shilara's busy with finals and will be out for the next week or two. Go ahead and GMPC her as needed. :-)
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
@Thanquol: you can ignore my previous post. I'm all set to go. :-)
Felixian opens his shirt slightly to reveal a wooden medallion on a chain around his neck. "I did, friend. I'm keeping it close to my heart for good luck. Is everyone ready to depart?"
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1

Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Thanks for being flexible; I completely understand where you're coming from. :-) I think I'll go ahead and keep the Cleric level. While I plan to stay primarily Ranger, I may pick up another level or two as the story dictates. For now, if you're okay with a one-level Cleric dip, that's the route I'd like to take.
From a RP standpoint, the Erastil holy text is going to remind Felixian of adages that his surrogate father, Nathan, told him while he and Nyx were growing up. It's obviously a sign that he and his friends are being looked after. While he'll never be a religious guru (he's not super bright), Felixian will definitely respect and worship the patron saint of hunters. :-) If it's okay, I'd like to flavor most of the magic as natural remedies. Augmented "backwoods healing" - as it were. The domain powers are obviously magical in nature, but I'll play them as his desperately praying for aid and being surprised when it's granted. :-) I'll wait for you to respond before I post anything in the gameplay thread. That way we won't have to retcon too much.
EDIT: I'll swap out a skill rank to meet the Know(religion) requirement. As I level, I'll make sure to allocate points there on occasion to represent his increased knowledge. :-)

Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Ookay, my apologies in advance in case this is a long post. :-) I'll go ahead and explain my (the player's) reasoning and then go ahead and answer the questions you posted.
Like you, I'm not a fan of the "party healbot" and don't think it's necessary to have a dedicated healer. However, I do think it's important to have people with healing capabilities - especially in a dangerous survival-esque campaign such as this one. Aside from consumables, we have two PCs who can heal (me and Shilara took archetypes that trade out casting ability). I figured that someone should take some of that load off of Thanquol/Rishkarri's shoulders so they could use those spell slots for other purposes. I hadn't mentioned this until now, but I'd planned on keeping the spellcasting as unobtrusive as possible - to the point of reflavoring everything as jungle remedies (herbs, poultices, etc). I'm a big fan of reskinning things (my Ninjas never wear black pajamas, for example). :-) This also means that I don't pay any attention to the names of classes/abilities/etc, as I change the flavor to fit my needs (my barbarian enters a calm, focused 'battle trance,' for example). Unrelated question that occurred to me as I was typing this: in regards to the training thing, what would you rule if someone wanted to dip Oracle? ;-)
Why Cleric? From an OOC perspective, it's the easiest way to add a little out-of-combat healing capacity to the party. A couple 1d6 bursts and a few CLWs. Nothing too huge, but might keep the party alive a little longer.
How does Felix come to this conclusion? He and his companions have survived a lot during the last few days. It's pretty obvious that a deity's looking after them. Plus, there are no atheists in foxholes. :-)
Where did the training come from? Training? Every experienced woodsman knows that certain herbs and berries can temporarily enhance the body's natural healing abilities.
Was this in his backstory? No
How does he know of Erastil? I (the player) didn't realize that he wasn't commonly known in this part of the world. As one of the original major deities, I'd assumed that everyone had heard of him.
Why Erastil? Golarion Clerics are required to worship a deity, and he was one of the only nature-themed ones. Gozreh was another option, but he's more focused on the sea and sky. Erastil's the hunting god - Felixian's a jungle guide/hunter/ranger.
Was Cleric an original goal of the character? No. It kind of happened organically.
In my defense, I first mentioned dipping Cleric at the end of September, and then reiterated it last month before I leveled. Nobody said anything, so I assumed it was okay. Still, if it's going to cause a problem, I'll go ahead and stay straight Ranger. Whatever you're comfortable with. :-) I'm not meaning to cause a problem.
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Felixian looks embarrassed as he shoulders his longbow. "I talked to a craftsman about it, but he's not familiar with Old Deadeye. I was going to describe the symbol to him, but all the excitement's got my brain all jumbled up. Couldn't remember if it's an insect, a butterfly, or some kind of weapon? Hopefully this trip will give me time to get my thoughts back in order."
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Didn't have the skill ranks to grab Know(religion), so...
INT: 1d20 ⇒ 9
----------------------------
INT: 1d20 ⇒ 2
LOL! I don't remember what a longbow looks like. No channeling for us, I guess. :-(
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Not a problem. We'll still be here. Try not to get trampled by shoppers. :-)
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Assuming I'm able to find a craftsman.
"Greetings sir/madam! If you have the time, I'd be interested in commissioning a piece from you. Nothing to complicated - especially if what I've been told about your skill is true. Me and my friends are leaving in the morning, and I would greatly appreciate a symbol to show that the gods are looking after us. Perhaps a small medallion with Erastil's sigil on it? I don't have much coin, but I do have this." He holds up a vial of white powder. "If you put a bit of this around your house and shop, it'll keep insects and other vermin away."
Offering one of my vermin repellent vials. Worth 5gp normally, but even selling for half gives me enough for a wooden holy symbol. Or, I'll spend the gold.
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Felixian nods. "That makes sense. Tell me, my friend, are here skilled at woodcarving or carpentry? I have some useful items I'd be willing to trade for a small symbol of Erastil. Mayhap he'll grant us protection on our journey tomorrow."
Just trying to figure out a way to get a holy symbol. Don't mind me. ;-)
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Felixian nods. "We're happy to be of service. Before we retire, though, could you direct us to the marketplace so we can purchase supplies?"
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Felixian nods in approval at Thanquol's suggestion. The prospect of a soft bed and a hot meal is enticing. It would also be nice if he could find someone skilled at woodwork as well - it's clear that Erastil's been protecting him and his friends, and he'd like to purchase a symbol of his newfound faith.
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
@Thanquol: what feat did you pick?
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Done! Here's what's changed.
Ranger 2 --> Ranger 2/Cleric 1
HP 26 --> 33 (d8+1 +2con)
Fort/Will saves +2
Gain Channel Positive Energy 3/day (1d6)
Gain Orisons 3/day and First Level spells 2/day + domain
Gained Enlarge 4/day (Plant/growth subdomain power)
Gained Powerful Bond 4/day (Good/friendship subdomain power)
Gained 2 skill points (Acrobatics/Perception increased)
I picked Precise Strike for my Level 3 feat. If Nyx doesn't want to go the teamwork feat route, I'll change it to something else.
Let me know if everything looks okay. Will I be able to purchase an Erastil holy symbol?
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
I'm curious as to what we missed. :-) It'll give us an idea as to the risk/reward ratio of encounters.
By the way, any objection to my taking a level of Cleric? It'll give us some much-needed healing capabilities, and since Gozreh doesn't require much formal worship, it shouldn't be too difficult to explain story-wise.
EDIT: or Erastil, for that matter.
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Shilara's swamped with school at the moment and is trying to avoid working herself to death. I'll keep her updated, but she probably won't be able to post regularly except on weekends.
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Felixian drinks one of his potions, checks to make sure everyone's okay, and reattaches his harness in preparation for more pulling.
CMW: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (5, 3) + 3 = 11
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
How does everyone want to do the potion distribution? 2 each, or what?
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Felixian moves to flank Nyx's raptor. IIRC, I can 5ft step to reach it, but if not, ignore my second attack/rend. :-)
Acrobatics to avoid AoO (if necessary): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Attack 2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Rend Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2 if both claws hit
If a raptor hits me this round (either through an AoO or an attack), I'm going to use my Black Cat ability.
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Rend Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3 if both attacks hit
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Crit Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Felixian groans as the raptor scores a nasty cut across his chest, causing his first attack to miss. He refocuses, and slashes again - dealing his opponent a nasty blow.
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Felixian grunts in pain but continues slashing away at his opponent.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Rend Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5 If both hit
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
"Let them come to us. With this carcass at our backs, it'll be difficult for them to surround us. Just be ready to strike swiftly."
Readied Action: attack the first Raptor to enter melee range with me.
@GM: due to the number of combatants, will there be a map for this fight?
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
@GM: Will do
Felixian quickly removes his harness and takes a defensive posture beside Nyx. "Of course, sis. But be careful not to get overwhelmed; it sounds like there's a lot of them." He scans quickly for Shilara. "Get behind us! We'll do our best to keep them off you. Shoot any that attack Thanquol or our new friends." He gestures at the villagers.
Fighting Defensively, so AC is currently 19.
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Felixian joins Nyx at a harness.
STR: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
STR: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
STR: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Strongest people... Should we do myself, the tiger, and Shilara? Or should we keep our most perceptive people on lookout?
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
"I'm not real good with people myself, but I'd be happy to walk over with you."
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Felixian smiles at Thanquol. "You have good ears, friend. If we help them out, the odds are good that they'll let us stay for a bit."
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Felixian follows the others into the jungle.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
"Heading Northeast sounds like a good plan." Upon seeing the open plain, Felixian smiles. "See, sis? This is why I'm in the jungle. Moments like this make the danger worth it."
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Survival: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
"All right, let's move out. Quickly but carefully, let's head..." he studies the land for a moment, then points.
Survival: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
"...that way. We should reach a clearing shortly." As the party begins to move out, he keeps a close eye out for trouble.
Perception (if needed): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Seeing as 3/4 of the party are leaning towards retreat, I'm guessing that's going to be our plan. Should we roll Stealth/Survival/Know. nature?
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Is everyone continuing to stay alert and keep moving?
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
Felixian takes his position in the defense circle. He's on the outside, closest to where the unknown thing is approaching.
Readied Action: claw defensively if the creature is hostile. AC is 19
Male Catfolk Skirmisher Ranger 2 / Cleric 1
I concur. We need our casters at full strength.
