Male Human Cleric - 3

Seeing the remains of the poor girl, Father Timmis goes pale and grips his mace tightly. The elderly priest follows Yarden and Liandra towards the sounds of the disturbance, clearly worried at the viciousness of the attack.

"What would cause such unnecessary violence? Such savagery?" murmurs Timmis sadly. "It's unimaginable."

Male Human Cleric - 3

Seeing no cause to the disturbance on this level, Father Timmis moves to the stairs, hurrying up to see who is responsible for the commotion.

Male Human Cleric - 3

Readying his mace, Father Timmis takes the lead with Yarden moving towards the sound of the commotion.

"This is chaos," murmurs the old priest to nobody in particular, shaking his head with a worried frown.

Sorry - yes I'm here too. Paizo just isnt letting me log on very much this week for some reason... :(

Male Human Cleric - 3

His heart pounding with adrenaline, Father Timmis tries to back away from the conflict, indicating his thanks to Liandra as she covers his withdrawal. Once free of the conflict, he heads over to where people are fighting the fire to see if he can coordinate their efforts.

I'll withdraw from the combat when I can and move over to the firefighters. Not sure that I have any useful firefighting skills (unless knowledge(engineering) will help?) but I'll try and coordinate the efforts to prevent the fire spreading. Potentially useful stats/skills:
intelligence +2, diplomacy +7, knowledge (engineering) +6

With a determined expression, Father Timmis hefts his mace and strides towards the thugs to help with liberating the dwarf.

If I'm able to reach one of them, attacks follow - I havent adjusted for inflicting non-lethal damage:

Attack on thug. (1d20+1=21, 1d8-1=2)
Critical confirmation. (1d20+1=6, 1d8-1=6)

Father Timmis winces slightly, but nods his readiness. "I'll try to keep everyone alive," he promises. "Although I'm not sure I'm going to be able to keep it up for much longer, given the exuberance with which these poor people seem intent on destroying each other."

She looks around at the others."Hey red, you good in a fight?"

"I think we should all go - we managed ok last time, but who knows what trouble we'll run into," nods Father Timmis. Before looking slightly apologetic once more. "Err...again, I'm afraid I have no idea where the petticoat district is."

Male Human Cleric - 3

Father Timmis laughs again, before giving a shrug. "My faith teaches that everyone has infinite promise. It's up to each of us to nurture that potential and turn it into reality," motioning around at some of the desperate and downtrodden, before returning his attention to Savrial, he continues. "For some, it can be hard to recognise their own worth, nonetheless - it's in there somewhere."

As he watches the exchange, Father Timmis chuckles at Liandra's expression, leaning forward to whisper softtly. "Somehow, I don't think we need worry that our quiet friend is suggesting anything untoward. I'd be surprised if she turns out to be skilled in 'interrogation' of the unsavory variety, wouldnt you?"

"My final, erm, exploration led me to a place that was owned by another. A comedy of errors insued and I ended up with you all. Ah well, just a service to our city and then back to our lives right?"

Harden hopes that ends the cleric's questions. He isn't sure why, but he's a bit embarrassed about his prior activities. Or maybe its just that he was caught.

"Say no more, my friend," smiles Father Timmis. "We've all done things we regret. What makes us who we are is not where we've been but where we are going. I'm glad to be serving with you, for one."

Harden gives Timmis a wry smile, "Yeah, I suppose that works too. Must be a bit obvious I'm used to working by myself."

"So what exactly did you used to do 'working by yourself'?" Father Timmis asks Harden, before indicating the rest of the group with a wave. "What brings you to serving in the watch alongside the rest of us?"

Male Human Cleric - 3

"I can help," Father Timmis offers, although he then offers a self-deprecating smile. "Not with carrying the poor man, I suspect I'd be more hindrance than help. However, I should be able to bring him around so he can walk himself." Murmuring a prayer, Father Timmis casts a brief spell as he places his hand over the unconscious beggar's forehead. Cure light wounds on the unconscious beggar. (1d8+3=11 hit points cured) After that, he returns to holding the manacled man gently but firmly, looking to Harden and Liandra and ready to escort the prisoners back to the lockup.

Heal check, looking over the unconscious beggar. (1d20+8=20)

Father Timmis examines the unconscious beggar, a concerned look on his face as his minor magic fails to bring the injured man around. After a moment, he turns to the still conscious man and looks him over also. He turns toward the rest of the group, an arm still holding the manacled beggar gently.

"Hmm, looks to me like these two unfortunates are not quite in control of themselves," he says indicating the arm of the beggar lying on the ground. "See those needle marks? They both show signs of being drugged."

"What do you think? Should we take them back and let them sleep it off in the cells?" breaking off that thought, he frowns slightly as he muses to himself "Do we even have any cells?"

Male Human Cleric - 3

Father Timmis hurries over to clap manacles around the held beggar, before the spell wears off. After he's done that, he'll tend to the wounds of the unconscious man.

Rebuke death on the unconscious beggar. (1d4+1= 2 hit points healed)

Frowning at the man's continued assault on the fallen beggar, Father Timmis steps forward slightly, his hands making a subtle gesture as he murmurs a prayer to Irori.

I'll cast hold person on the still conscious combatant the DC for his will save each round is 16.

Male Human Cleric - 3

Thanking Harden as he is helped to his feet, Father Timmis moves up to stand close behind Liandra, also readying his mace in case it will be needed.

Still unsure in his new role, he also reaches into his pocket and fishes out his watchman badge, waving it around uncertainly to anyone who may be interested in checking his credentials.

"Careful friend," he warns, "those who stand by and let others be bullied will find there's no-one there to help them when they need it most."

Blind Man's Alley:

Up ahead of you there is a ruckus as two beggars are doing their utmost to try and kill each other. One of them is trying to strangle the other, while the other is bashing his would-be killer in the head with a metal bowl. There is a lot of screeching, but no discernible words at this point.

"You there!" calls Father Timmis, hurrying forward toward the disturbance. "Let's have none of that! What's this all about - what's going on?" As he moves towards the two beggars, face a mask of concern, he leaves his weapons sheathed - holding out his empty hands in a placating gesture.

Father Timmis nods his understanding, before offering a wry smile. "My eyes are sharp enough, I'm sure I'll spot my share of miscreants," he grins. "It's catching them that might be the problem. I'm not as fit as I used to be."

As he moves away from the beggar, he self-consciously adjusts the straps on his armor. "I dont know how people move around in all this metal." he complains to himself.

Not only is he not blind, it is beyond unlikely that he has ever so much as set foot on a boat of any kind.

Father Timmis sighs sadly.

"Perhaps you could put such tale-spinning to good use," he counsels the beggar reproachfully. "Earn yourself an honest living, maybe learn to play an instrument. There's always demand for bards and other entertainers - when the time is right people willingly pay for lies and tall tales."

Timmis is not stupid but he does give people the benefit of the doubt. Sense motive roll 17 and perception roll 23, talking to 'blind' beggar. (1d20+10=17, 1d20+7=23) - as he speaks with the beggar he's trying to determine if the man is genuinely in need or not.

Male Human Cleric - 3

Heading over to join the rest of his assigned team, Father Timmis notices Savrial's tear but doesnt comment, giving her a friendly smile before turning and nodding an acknowledgment to Harden.

"Harden, good to be working with you," he says before facing Liandra. "Ready to go, Li. I hope you know the way to Blind Man's Alley."

On seeing the half-elf's expression Father Timmis gives a self-deprecating smile, bowing slightly to her.

"I may be old and a little less spritely than I once was," he confesses with a twinkle in his eye. "And it's true that I've spent more time in libraries than I have in battle. Nonetheless, I can assure you I am fit and ready to serve the city. I'm called Father Timmis, by the way, servant of Irori. What should I call you...?"

Male Human Cleric - 3

Father Timmis steps forward from the group of enlistees. Unsure of exactly how he should act, he offers Nico an awkward salute.

"Err, Father Timmis reporting for duty...sir, er... ma'am..." he trails off, fidgetting nervously with the straps of his armor. "It will be a great honor to serve the city, I'm sure we won't let you down." Although offering a friendly smile to the other recruits, he begins to feel slightly uncomfortable and hurries over to register with Keriton. After giving his details to the Thri-kreen, he moves over to Kitty and introduces himself.

"Kitty is it? I'm Father Timmis. I used to work as an archivist," he introduces himself with a smile. "If you ever need any help with that paperwork, let me know."

Male Human Cleric - 3

Father Timmis is nearly done (sorry for the delay). Please check over his background and see it fits in ok. I still have to do spells and items - should be done within a few hours...

Looking forward to getting to use him.. :)

If the five of you were interested in keeping this going, I'd be prepared to take on DMing another PBP - assuming Archon Adept was OK with that anyhow.

I own the module he was going to run, although I havent yet read it, so would need a little while to get started. I am a relative newcomer to PBP, if you want to see the style, the game I am running is the bastion PBP.

Let me know if you'd be interested (if a DM does turn up, I'd rather play of course - but I enjoy DMing as well...)

Okay, Steve, removing tongue from cheek...

Your proposal to increase the good Father's INT score is fine. Please just remember to adjust his INT-based skill totals accordingly.

Other comments about his sheet...

1. He has 29 hp.

2. There should be an additional -1 penalty to damage with his melee weapons, due to his poor STR.

3. He should have a few more languages spoken, thanks to his improved INT score, and Linguistics skill.

4. Speaking of languages...his helm is technically over the individual gp limit for magic items I set (5000 gp)...just barely. I'm inclined to allow the helm anyway, as long as it doesn't cause any of your fellow players to cry foul, because I don't think it's game-breaking or anything. But I want to make things fair for everyone. So, I guess if anyone else had an item worth 5200 gp that they wanted, speak up now. :)

I think that about covers everything. Thanks!

Changes made - although I havent filled out all his languages yet (seems a little redundant given the helm...) I will get to them soonish.

I don't know why I missed that - I think I thought the limit was 6000gp or something. Sorry about that, I'll leave it for now, but happy to change of course if you prefer. :/

Steve, I've had an initial look at Father Timmis, and I can't quite get his ability scores to work out (I think you've actually short-changed him).

Here's how I see the breakdown:

STR Base 11 (1pt) -3(age) =8
DEX Base 11 (1pt) -3(age) =8
CON Base 11 (1pt) -3(age) =8
INT Base 10 (0pt) +2(age) =12
WIS Base 16 (10pts) +2(age) +2(Human bonus) +2(magic item) =22
CHA Base 14 (5pts) +2(age) =16

So, that's only 18 of 20 points spent, and doesn't even include the additional +1 associated with reaching 4th level.

Can you take another look at this for me please?

I didn't use any age modifiers (in my tabletop group we generally don't so it didnt occur to me). Going with what you've got there, if it's ok I'll increase his Int by 3 (2pts remaining to be spent +1 for 4th level gain).

Introducing Father Timmis, devoted servant of Sarenrae. Let me know if there's anything you want changed.
