Hey everyone,
I was doubting on what to do for a while, but I think I'm going to withdraw from this campaign. It has nothing to do with the GM or the players; I'm just in too many PBP's and need to drop a few. This is just one of the newest ones. Also, if I am honest, I listened to/am listening to a podcast that is doing this PBP for an hour every two weeks, and with the rate that is going compared to PBP the PBP will never catch up to what I already know of the main plot. I joined in large part on request to help out and cover for Ghil when he dropped but now that he is back, Eric isn't needed that much I feel.
On the story front, Eric could be summoned by his Biological father to the Elven encampment to help out there I suppose, or to the Shoanti to continue his training.
Gearwise he will happily give what he gained the last few encounters back to everyone. That is 1000 g, a sleeves of many garments, a cloak of resistance +1 and a masterwork crossbow.
Kind regards!

Yeah, Eric buys a sap. He will suck with it, but better than nothing?

Eric inwardly sighed. That was the fourth or fifth time that the exact same point was made to dissuade Vedika from suicidally rushing in, given they *knew* just how risky it was. He could admire her devotion to her sister, and she was definitely pretty, but it was just a *really* bad idea. But trying to console her didn't seem to work, and he now wasn't sure what to do about it.
"If only the queen had stuck around slightly longer, so we could have pleaded for aid directly," he says, feeling rather tired as well. "Still, that sounds like a good idea. Sabine asked for us to bring him alive so I'd suggest we get a bunch of saps to knock them out rather than cut them up. If we're really lucky, he might even be open to reason."
Yeah, and the moon was green. Oh well. One could always hope.

Vedika Bhatia wrote: "That frankly went better than I expected." The half-elf smirks and glances sideways as Ghil stayed behind with Sabine, no doubt already charming his second victim in as many days. He was a ballsy fellow, that one, going straight for the guard captain right out of a royal audience. But perhaps that was to be expected, with everyone dressed and jeweled up nicely. If there ever was an opportunity it was probably now.
"Well, my expectations were low. But I agree, maybe the rumors concerning the queen are overblown. Maybe," he muses to Vedika in the meantime. "At least we got back the money spent on these portable tailor retirement funds." He motions over the High Court fashion they were now wearing in the middle of the streets of a city still plagued by riots. "Speaking off, we should probably change out of these as soon as possible..."
One vote to see what work awaits us.

"Eric, apprentice shaman of the Shadde-Quah. I am a bastard and have not yet passed to trial to claim my Shoanti name. As such just Eric is all I have, really," The half-elf states to Sabina, bowing politely yet not taking his eyes off her, after making sure his Rat Familar was safely tucked out of sight. It was probably best to not involve his biological family any more than necessary.

With some trepidation, but choosing to trust in his allies' judgment, Eric hands over his branched spear, silvered mace, and crossbow. He hesitates before reaching into his robe and adding his dagger, making him completely unarmed.
He figured that if the queen chose to turn on them, they'd be dead anyway.

After selling the gear, getting a bath and outfitting themselves properly (Eric with a shiny pair of Sleeves of Many Garments and a hundred or so gold of jewelry to really pass for a noble), he looks down at his costume at the stairway heading to the Palace and sighs. "Please, pharasma. I only wish to do this once. And have her be trustworthy, if you can? I'd rather not say 'I told you so!' to my future self if she ends up screwing us over..."

Eric's gaze softens slightly at Vedika's stance and he sighs. "I agree that it's risky, and believe me when I wish I could confidently state that we could do another frontal assault like this and pull it off. But, to be realistic... they downed you with a single blow. And I don't think I could have taken a hit like that either. Perhaps i was skilled, perhaps I was lucky, perhaps both. But I'm not eager to stretch that bit of luck against a supposedly much harder foe. Loathe as I am to trust nobles, we shoud probably go hear what the queen has to say."

"Look, you're right. But honestly, if you're sure the Queen can be trusted, I might advise heading to her first to see if we can get any sort of help," Eric states. "I don't know if you've noticed, but these guys hit like cargo ships, and I was busting my rear to try and keep you all up. This Pet Maker probable has a lot stronger security than Drakson-"
He looks back to try and spot his corpse, then frowns when he doesn't see it but doesn't comment.
"-And I'm not sure we're going to be able to take him as we are now. No offense, I would love to take down that scum and do it quickly. But I do think someone has to point out that it's really risky and that we might be a bit out of our depth."

It was a lost cause. Children. Really? "But I am also not going to save him. Or, let's say, stop someone from selling him into slavery to give him a taste of his own medicine. Seeing the last of his enemies go down, Eric does the humane thing and tries to stabilize whichever ones on the floor were still alive. "Sorry about that," he apologizes to the barkeeper and the personnel, and places ten gold on the bar. "For cleaning and repair costs. Let's agree to not spread word of what happened here for both our sakes? Just as you don't want to be known to have harbored someone associated with Child Trafficking, whether or not it was your fault, so do we not want to be associated with murder, whether or not it was out fault. And we did fight in self-defense."

Eric takes another 10 damage, dropping back down to 8 again, as Nethen and Vedika are healed for another 5 each. @Nethen are you keeping track of lifelink? It's healed you three times now for 15 total.
Eric pulls his spear from the skewered remains of the purple-clad foe and glared at the blue one. "That's three misses and a dead friend. Might be your last chance to cut your losses and run. In case you haven't noticed, my friends' wounds have been healing the entire time we were fighting."
He feints for a bit of distance and waits for whichever friend would help to finish off this remaining brute before striking, as it seemed to be focused only on him. Knowing he was out of healing and that one more use of his link would cause him to faint, he dispelled the link and healed himself with the wand, hopefully able to take just hit from that menacing club...

As Eric starts his turn, he staggers back, as both the wounds from Nethen and Vedika were again transferred to him, while he didn't have much left to give!
Vedika and Nethen are healed for 5, Eric takes 10 damage and is at 8 hp. Yes, any of the three attacks directed at him the last two rounds would have knocked him out :') I think that leaves Vedika at 9 hp and Nethen at 30.
Thus, he takes advantage of the floored purple to put some space between him and the clubbing duo and heals himself!

@Everyone, how shall we handle this fight from here? It seems we're outnumbered by enemies who hit significantly harder than us. Purple has taken dome damage, as well as one of the ones Nethen is fighting. However, they hit much, much harder than I can heal, and on average two shot each of us except for Nethen. This can go south really really fast and kind of already has with the crit on Vedika. I'm not sure this fight can be won by attacking the thugs, though I guess it depends on how much HP they have.

He adds the below bit if the cast of Divine Favor went through. As there was no reaction to it and no fight has broken out yet I don't mind either way, it would be more beneficial to us if not I suppose.

"Seems suspicious, aye. I'm not *that* good of a healer yet, but I'm quite sure that a simple disease could be magically treated as often as needed, so long as the supply of casters lasted. And a king should be able to hire as many as he needs. Not sure what it means, though. It sounds like a cover up, but of what? If the magic works normally but the king didn't heal, then there was either no disease or what looked like a disease was not what it seemed... something staged, then, perhaps?" he speculates, looking around to make sure there were no guards nearby.
The apprentice shaman ponders the implications as his half-elven ears pick up more rumors. "Some people in the alley we just passed were speaking of how the guards are looking for group of adventurers 'that returned some valuable stolen property to her', and that she wants to speak to them," he repeats, then laughs. "Hah, yeah, right. The nerve to think those people would be stupid enough to willingly turn themselves in to be hanged... probably a good idea not to face her even if they just happened upon it. Everyone'd think they were the thieves, and the queen's probably just looking for a scapegoat. Damn nobles." He spits to the side. "If I were them I'd settle my business here and get out of town as fast as the dawn wind rushes the bay."
He continues on his way, the end of his branched spear tapping the pavement of roads that were suspiciously red in some spots, blissfully unaware that he was in the exact presence of these supposed thieves.
After all, no one had told him about Queen Iliosa's piece of jewelry that the group had found at Gaedren's place earlier...

"I like the way you think," Eric says, grinning at Vedika. "I think we're all in agreement, though: we go to the docks right now. Afterwards we can go about gauging the state of the city. With some bad luck, this guy decides things have become too hot to handle, and he'd try to flee with his victims. Or worse. We can't have that, so let's go."
Unless stopped, he'd begin making the way to the Old Docks. "How do we go about capturing Sam Drakson, though? Sounds like he has quite a few men. So we try to trick or charm him into a moment of weakness, or do we just attack the moment we lay eyes on him?" he asks on the way.

Eric is fine with the girl - guy split, as he'd expected such. Truth be told, Vedika was very good looking but somewhat... severe? And her mind was constantly on her sister, which he supposed was fair. And Ariadne was perhaps even more severe and scarred to boot. There just didn't seem to be much ground for casual fooling around, at present at least.
At breakfast, he tries to let none of his, or actually Nethen's, money go to waste and decides to eat for lunch in advance, covertly sneaking some bread to Sobaloo while he was at it. Sure, that would be very bad for him if he were to get stabbed this morning, which was likely, but he'd be able to heal himself before too much of the intestinal content spilled out into the abdomen - or such was the plan.
"I'd say we go to the docks right away. I'd really not want any little girl in the hands of these a#~$###s any longer than necessary, and whoever was up rioting yesterday is probably asleep, wasted, or dead now. Best to make use of the relative safety until the troublemakers recover," He reasons, as the party looks down on the rest of the city from an overlook and plans their next move.

"Well, at lest the prices are suitably outrageous for The Heights..." Eric mutters. "I don't think I can even pay for that unless you'd give me a share of the loot from when we fought those bandits earlier."
Looking at the sheet, he can actually, if barely, pay a shared room with someone. Man. This is like the equivalent of a 1600 dollar room?

Eric adjusts his Shoanti garbments as he rises from his seat. "Perhaps we should see if we can rent rooms here somewhere? We're in The Heights. While it's a prime target for looters, it's also as protected against the riots as anywhere in the city will be. Plus, they haven't made it here yet, it seems. And even if we had other options, we'd have to move back through the problems areas to reach them first."
He looks to the others wgen Vedika brings up the risk of the target coming looking for them, though that was a different inn. "I suppose it's possible he'd search for us, if he was convinced we were involved. Is that worth the risk of going back out there and getting into more fights like we did earlier?"

Meanwhile, Eric just takes a nearby seat to casually observe the interior of the inn. Nethen and Ariadne were already talking to Montague, and it'd only be more unusual for even more people to sit at his table. Plus, they'd honored their agreement perfectly - with a known and apparently respected information broker. He didn't foresee any troubles.

Shaking his head, amused, Eric approaches the table and swings the arm of Iorghils 'unconscious' and/or highly drunk body over his neck and shoulder, then rises to walk him out. "All right, time to to, casanova. I think you've had enough for the night." He says, as he throws the courier an apologetic look and begins withdrawing.

Eric kept watch on the proceedings with Iorghil, trying to suppress his nerves over Nethen and Vedika currently breaking into the target's room. They hadn't been gone *that* long, he felt, but still...
"Please don't leave, please don't leave," He kept this manthra on repeat, hoping it would somehow help him keeping the target in place.

There's a small nod and a grin as Eric turns to Vedika. "Got it. I'm fairly sure he said room number three," he shares the communicated number. "We'll try and keep them here. Come back if you need help."

Meanwhile, Eric waits to see if someone more skilled with subterfuge would be amiable to taking up either his plan or other covert actions while the target was distracted. Was the group content just to wait and see if Ghil could manage this by himself?
He ordered a water and some basic bread and butter to share with Nethen, Vedika and Ariadne and sat back.

"Perhaps if we waited until he retired, then caused such a ruckus that he would run out and abandon his room behind..." Eric mused. "Claiming there to be a fire, perhaps? Something among those lines. Or we could perhaps sneak a look at the Inn's ledger to see which room belong to him. But that would require someone with the charm or guile to do it convincingly and covertly, and then have the skills to also break into the room without others noticing."
He looks at Vedika. "Are you such a type, perhaps?"
I could see someone asking the Inn keeper about a friend claiming to have stayed here and lost an item. Perhaps that would get you a look at the ledger if you insist and you could read there which room the target's is. But Eric has 0 bluff skill.

Eric noices the target staring longingly at Iorghil and chuckles. "All right, all right. I know when I'm not wanted. Have fun, you two." He says, taking his drink over to Nethen.
"Seems like things are going smoothly for our friend! Let's see if he can capitalize on his charms." he mutters, smiling at the table and leaving out any unnceesary details for potential listeners- in.

Can't move my marker. Eric would be at the table drinking with the guy/target unless something happened to prevent his actions as stated in my previous post.

Vedika Bhatia wrote: Vedika says tersely to Eric, "I'll go up and try to find the letter while you keep him busy. If he's connected to the sort in these parts, especially the Pet-Maker, then I don't really care that much about this guy anyway." Earlier...
At this, Eric appears confused. "You mean, the guy we're supposed to steal the letter from? How do you figure he's connected to the Pet Maker? That he's the target of an information Broker doesn't mean he himself is connected to the Pet Maker, I'd say. Please, Vedika. I understand your desire to save your kin all too well, but we can't go making wild assumptions like that. If there's anything I hate, it's prejudice."

Slightly earlier.
On the way to the second Inn, Eric looks to the others, somewhat nervously. "So, how are going to do this? I don't have much in the ways of deception. And I'd prefer not to be violent if it came down to it. We have no idea what this letter is about, and the guy could be innocent for all we know. Plus, there's been enough violence going around tonight. I guess I could try striking a conversation with him while you do what needs to be done and distract him for a bit..."
If everony agrees to his part.
Eric orders a drink at the bar and drags himself over to the table with the slumped man. "Man... what a day," he mumbles on the way there. "Say, mind if I sit down here? Not sure I could make it another few steps for the other one." He says dryly. "Though you look like you've been through hell too. The riots got to you as well?" He asks, and takes a gulp.

"There's this person called 'The pet maker'. We would very much like to visit him or her, preferably now, while the city still stands," Eric says, exchanging a glance with the others to see how much detail they wanted to reveal on the matter.
