I didn't see the Treerazer's Bane trait when I was looking around Minoritarian, what book is it in? My two traits right now are Warrior of Old for the improved initiative and Armor Expert to reduce the penalty on my chain shirt but I suppose it won't matter much once I have a Mithral Chain Shirt so maybe I should drop that and pick up Bane.

Thank you all for the replies!

Hey, sorry I didn't reply sooner - its in Elves of Golarion

Get well soon my man. That's a proper s#+@ thing for anyone to go through.

For myself I have lost interest in the game. Nobody, in home home games (including myself) has been interested in a while.... (Shadowrun)

Reckless, if you move the story on from apologising to widows I might regain interest. I am not an action only character. (as you'd have guessed from Elmador's background) but splitting the party (even if we do it) is a bad idea.

At the same time I've just taken over as being the manager of three homes for adults who are ASC so I'm not apologetic that my time being stolen. They have first priority over every one. EVER.

My ideas above are those of a man who has managed to put a lot of drink inside him because why not????

This Malathorn, how deep in your lord's counsel is he? Would we be able to receive an audience without him being present? asks Elmador It'd be easier to just set Mirrin loose on the bastard and have done with it he thinks to himself supressing a sigh for having to take the harder, more moral path.

And where is Malathorn staying should we wish to have a, erm, quiet word with him?

Yeah still here. I've spent three days in hospital with one of my clients so haven't been free to post - all the time I'm not with them I've been writing safeguarding reports etc. I'll post this evening though.

my mistake. I remembered you picking the sword up. But you gave it to Donagh. And as Donagh gave the wedding band to Harvald I assume the sword also went to him? In which case change my look to Grunyar as looking to Harvald

Male Dwarf Wizard (Earth) HP: 6/6 | AC:14 | T:14 | FF: 10 | F: -1 R: +4 W:+5| Init: +4 | Perception: +6 | Sense Motive: +11

Elmador nods along at his cousin's heartfelt words

He has th' long and th' short o' it m'lady. From what we've heard the world lost a good man and I cannae imagine what ye've lost. If there's aught at all I or we can do for ye then ask. I think my mate here has something else for you He says looking at Grunyar.

I'm for relaxin' myself but if needs be I'll take watch after we've talked to the widow

Male Dwarf Wizard (Earth) HP: 6/6 | AC:14 | T:14 | FF: 10 | F: -1 R: +4 W:+5| Init: +4 | Perception: +6 | Sense Motive: +11

"Aye, I'll come with ye to speak to the Sherriff's widow. Unpleasant as it will be we'll meet th' rest o' you at Miatha's after for a well deserved drink" Elmador looks over to Harvald as well, "if there is a secure place for th' prisoner would it be too much t' ask if a couple o' your men or others you trust t' stand guard?"

Male Dwarf Wizard (Earth) HP: 6/6 | AC:14 | T:14 | FF: 10 | F: -1 R: +4 W:+5| Init: +4 | Perception: +6 | Sense Motive: +11

"Ivy, Harvald, could you fill us in on who're the most important people around here other than Lord Geirni? Who's going to be the most sensible about the drow b*stard now that Gunther is no longer with you?

Male Dwarf Wizard (Earth) HP: 6/6 | AC:14 | T:14 | FF: 10 | F: -1 R: +4 W:+5| Init: +4 | Perception: +6 | Sense Motive: +11

Elmador's engineer's eyes take in the sight of Fasturvalt and he grunts with appreciation and no small amount of awe.

"Thank ye for th' warning Ivy, I'll be on me best behaviour. Can't make no promises for the rest o' em but this expedition is important to all o' us, they'll do what they feel is right."

He moves over to Garnult and tells him of Ivy's warning "I know you have reservations about the gnomes and their view of us. Ivy just confirmed tha' they might not see us as more tha' bloody duergar. But then, why would they? Hopefully news of how we rescued these others will do us some small good"

Elmador tries to put on a smile but it looks more like a fixed grimace as he travels through the town. I don't think that 8 charisma is going to do him much good at making an impression! (until he starts talking and can use his int bonus to talk)

apologies I ended up not actually finishing work at all and staying all night, lovely

Elmador after feeling fairly inept in his last battle has prepared burning hands and snowball every day since. "See how you like a taste of this!" he says moving out L13 and casting snowball at Darkmantle #5

ranged touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

earlier conversations:

"I'll watch my tongue Harvald, thanks for the warning. Why isn't Ivy too well liked, I saw you frown at her as she entered the cavern when we first met"

Asks Ivy the same thing about the look Harvald gave her.

"Aye Cousin, especially a poison such as this. Ivy, I'll destroy it, o'course, this...this is monstrous, a concoction that kills, and at the same time aids the killer."

Elmador pours the stuff on the floor but keeps the tiniest dribble at the bottom of the vial. "Is this amount enough ta harm ye or anyone else Ivy? he asks.

"If not then I'll keep it to show to Slowly as further proof that something awful is 'appening. If it is, then I'll smash the vial right here, right now. Someone came through here recently and if there was more o' this bane then..."

Elmador awaits Ivy's answer and either pockets the vial or smashes it depending on her reply.

"let's get back to the wagon. We have to move quickly"

I had to google what a dust bunny was in a full on 'Gazebo' moment!.

Survival check to see how long ago the room was disturbed/barrels were moved: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

Elmador scans the room taking in the scrapes, the circles in the dust and eyes eventually fastening on a vial in the corner. He walks over to it and picks it up turning it over in his hands and eventually taking the lid off it to have a sniff.

To Garnult before we enter the cave:
Elmador claps a hand to his cousins shoulder"Tis good that you worry, cousin. A king should worry, it shows care an' consideration. Aye, your concerns are well-noted but to the gnomes at th' minute are we not just helpful surfacers? We need t' show them our conviction an' honour. If'n we help them now then we'll 'ave forged ourselves our first friends here under the surface and we will need all the friends we can muster to find and recover our capital, I'm sure"

Elmador looks around seeing nothing at all of interest and then notices Ivy peering intently at the wall and running her fingers along it.
"Ah Ivy, ye beauty! Keen eyes indeed! What have ye found there?" He beams at her shuffling over to where she stands.

Male Dwarf Wizard (Earth) HP: 6/6 | AC:14 | T:14 | FF: 10 | F: -1 R: +4 W:+5| Init: +4 | Perception: +6 | Sense Motive: +11

Elmador nods and smiles at hi cousin "be glad of the company" and takes a moment to think on the question.

"These few we helped 'ere for certain. It took some stones to head out in these 'ere tunnels, lookin' for help, knowin' tha' they would be watched at best an' mebbe attacked by the drow fer what they did. Takes a certain kind a person to do that I reckon. That kind don' go forgettin' who helped 'em out in a tight spot." He nods again at his cousin.

"I'm thinkin' though, that we might face some problems with this Lord Slowly. He's been tratin' with the drow an' I wanna know why, what sort of man takes in an emissary for those pointy-eared demons?!. Ivy didnae seem too keen on him either. Best tread carefully with him".

"In short cousin, I think these gnomes need our aid. Whether they realise it now or not I have a bad feeling about that drow. Others at Fasturvalt must feel the same as Gunther did. Aye, we'll have allies but we'll also need ta' watch our backs."

Elmador finished speaking and stares at the floor pondering his own words.

And you Garnult? How what's your feeling about our new travelling companions and our situation?

Male Dwarf Wizard (Earth) HP: 6/6 | AC:14 | T:14 | FF: 10 | F: -1 R: +4 W:+5| Init: +4 | Perception: +6 | Sense Motive: +11

Elmador looks at his cousins and Dain conferring and grins thinking of them flexing their muscles over who is best suited to guard the injured spider.

"I'm headin' back t' tha wagon t' clear some space. See how Cuka is doin' too. Might'n see what that southern tunnel we passed has down it. Any o' you brawny ones wanna join me? How about you Ivy? Could do with eyes sharper'n mine too.

Elmador wants to ask Ivy about what the frown from Harvald was about.

Male Dwarf Wizard (Earth) HP: 6/6 | AC:14 | T:14 | FF: 10 | F: -1 R: +4 W:+5| Init: +4 | Perception: +6 | Sense Motive: +11

Ewwww to 80 hour weeks! When you see this Wrex/Pokepache, I hope you're curled up on a sofa taking some time off rather than grabbing a desperate moment to yourself. Take it easy

Elmador turns to Grunyar and says"I think we need t' get this thing tied up an' onta th' wagon" gesturing at the Skis'Raal "we need t' be careful not t' open th' wounds though - don't wannit dead before it can face justice...unless the gnomes want to deal wi' it themselves. Nobody could blame 'em"

Elmador nods at the gnomes in turn and greets them by name. "Harvald, if'n you're seriously injured there are some 'ere us who can help you. Donagh, have you the means today? Dain?

Normally, we'd offer the worst off of you t' kip on the wagon but looks like we may need th' little space we 'ave to carry this murdering scum back to face judgement. It's harmed you the most though and you have the best idea of how it will play with this 'ambassador' if we bring one of their catspaws back to Fasturvalt - what do you want to do with it?

Did it, or it's partner, say aught interesting tha' you remember? Drow are tricky, conniving f#$$ers and we'll need all th' evidence we can to show this emissary for what they are. Elmador stops, takes a breath and steadies himself. Thinking of the drow destroying another community as they, he is convinced, destroyed Dammherhall, has him incensed.

Male Dwarf Wizard (Earth) HP: 6/6 | AC:14 | T:14 | FF: 10 | F: -1 R: +4 W:+5| Init: +4 | Perception: +6 | Sense Motive: +11

Given tha' the' skis'raal has harmed th' gnomes should we not take it with us t'Fasturvalt to face judgement there? he asks the others.

Do you wish to continue on to Kladdenvalt or return with us to your home? You'll be hard pressed without ya wains he says to the older gnome.

Male Dwarf Wizard (Earth) HP: 6/6 | AC:14 | T:14 | FF: 10 | F: -1 R: +4 W:+5| Init: +4 | Perception: +6 | Sense Motive: +11

perhaps my headstrong cousin could have a thought about the honour in allowing a confirmed murderer, kidnapper and bandit to walk these tunnels again, free to attack yet more innocent travellers before making an oath 'binding us all' without consulationElmador thinks to himself.

"Garnult, cousin, not to belabour th' point but I believe ya word was, in a' fact, kept to th' letter. Brygga did show the thing justice - it be alive still don't it? Any o' us able to keep it from bleeding out?"
Elmador looks around at his companions questioningly.

An' while we're on th' subject Elmador turns to the gnome who has spoken and speaks to him in undercommon.

"I'm Elmador, well met..?", he leaves the sentence unfinished for a name. "Are any of you injured or need immediate aid? Your companion Ivy is safe an' well and will be joinin' us soon. Ya have her to thank fer tellin' us your situation. Do you have any ideas what that situation is? Fer example wh' th' spider is carryin' platinum coin with elven on it? Where or what is Vothys?"

I don't know how crowded it is around here so I'm not going to risk an Acid Cloud!

Elmador raises his hands again and casts another electrical charge at the spider-folk. "This has gone on long enough me lad. A little help here mates!" He says at the Skis'Raal and the party respectively

"if an omission of speech is an agreement then I agree I allowed safe passage but, my priestly friend, it appears that mule has bolted now, we can talk about this later our friends need our assistance and the svirfneblin even more so!" Elmador is panting heavily now as his heart races and his respiratory problems act up.

Male Dwarf Wizard (Earth) HP: 6/6 | AC:14 | T:14 | FF: 10 | F: -1 R: +4 W:+5| Init: +4 | Perception: +6 | Sense Motive: +11

I was confused by the skis'raal's statement of "Betrayal? They said they would allow me leave!" thinking it had already decided we were going to betray it and so had decided to attack. I thought jumping down to us was an attack. If I was confused by its intentions then I imagine Elmador was too :)

Donagh! This creature will go on to ambush other travellers if we allow it to go, it's already shown it doesn't understand the idea of a bargain! Elmador pants out as his spell fizzles uselessly into the air. does it mean we are the betrayers here or is there someone else nearby?! he thinks to himself as he scans the area

Elmador, faced with the choice of allowing a murdering kidnapper to go free or have prisoners die, froze up, unwilling to make such a decision on his own but not having the luxury of a discussion.

Now the choice is taken away from him by the skis'raal jumping down he throws another jolt at the spidery thing.

ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Male Dwarf Wizard (Earth) HP: 6/6 | AC:14 | T:14 | FF: 10 | F: -1 R: +4 W:+5| Init: +4 | Perception: +6 | Sense Motive: +11

"Blast, damn 'n' damn again. I bet ye it means it can make it to th' rest o' the gnomes afore us!"

Elmador moves out into the main corridor and takes off after the others and the spider.

Elmador pipes up "Mirrin, if'n you think they're waiting for us and know we're acomin' then maybe I can make 'em think twice about hangin' out so close? Got a bit o' somethin' that could make 'em back off a ways. A cloud of some pretty nasty acid might make a nice housewarmin' gift to our spindly mates doncha think?"

I can use my Acid Cloud ability from the earth domain on the detritus and webbing. Doesn't do much damage really but it is a small AoE (5' radius) that sickens. Might make it easier for us to get up there if they are lying in ambush. On the other hand if they're not sat up there waiting then we've just announced our presence in a big way

Male Dwarf Wizard (Earth) HP: 6/6 | AC:14 | T:14 | FF: 10 | F: -1 R: +4 W:+5| Init: +4 | Perception: +6 | Sense Motive: +11

"Well, I doubt these Skis'Raal are going t' be open much t'talking and I feel a tad exposed 'ere lads Elmador pulls out a tiny scrap of leather from his belt pouch and mutters a few words - the wind around him picks up momentarily and then settles leaving a field of slightly denser air surrounding him that shimmers every so often [casts mage armor]. "Ready when you are friends" he says, once again rolling his sleeves up.

Questions for Knivey Ivy:

"Knivey I'm gonna bend ya ear a little if'n you don't mind none" Elmador rushes out the words in one go, his initial courage at introducing himself gone "what were you and the sheriff and t'others doing out 'ere anyways? Ya said you were lookin' fer help but why is that? Because this Lord Slowly is atreatin' with those spindly long eared black 'earted devils? What kind o' help was Gunther after? You reckon that the Skis'Raal were actin' all kinds o' out of sorts attackin' and killin' yer Sheriff, ya think maybe Slowly put 'em up to it? Are there a lot o' drow in Fasturvalt? We were 'oping to make our way there oursen get some supplies and information you see, and now it seems our welcome might be a little cold if'n the place is swarming with dark elves... Elmador pants a little and starts coughing wretchedly after speaking so long without a pause "sorry lady, me lungs are not what they should be and sometimes my mind gets ahead of my mouth and manners"

  • Why was there an expedition from Fasturvalt
  • What kind of help was Gunther looking for
  • Were Gunther and Lord Slowly at odds with each other
  • Was their rivalry such that Slowly would try to have Gunther killed
  • Are there Drow in Fasturvalt and if so how many?

And as knowledge dungeoneering isn't revealing any info about Skis'Krall I'll try knowledge Arcana and Knowledge History to see if dwarves eer treated or fought with Skis'Raal

I don't think we should leave the wagons and mules, no. We should trundle them forward as best we can. If we're separated from our supplies we'll die just as surely as if we let some massive spiders eat us

"I'll cast one little light for the mules t'see by and get 'em moving along. Should be able to keep up wi' you all. Do you want to sit on t'wagon Ivy? It ain't much but it's surely better'un walking if you've been crouched down behind a rock for best part o' a day"

At mention of drow the normally diplomatic and calm Elmador feels a cold flush of rage, disgust and interest run through him. Well, my chance to get some answers might come sooner than I thought, unlikely but if we meet some drow they might know -something- of Dammerhall's fall he thinks.

if we're speaking in Dwarven I'm going to maintain the annoying faux Yorkshire

"Ivy, sounds like there is more t'yon presence 'ere than we 'ave time t'discuss right now, but it sounds as though t'sherriff and this 'ere...Lord Slowly did ya say? were at odds somehow and that t'drow are involved in all o' it. After we've rescued your companions, an' I'm sure we can, my fellows 'ere are exceptional, you mus' fill us in. Do you think it would be safe t'call for our friends scouting ahead? Time enough has passed that these Skis'Raal are not likely t'be in the immediate vicinity I think

talking dwarve sized assassin spiders he shakes his head things got interesting more quickly than I thought they would.

"I'm sorry but I don't know of these Skis'raal you speak of. Perhaps we have a different name on the surface. Would you mind describing them for is? They speak? Talking spiders? Can they be reasoned with or are we bound to end this with bloodshed to ensure the safety of your companions?" Elmador stops speaking as he realises he's committed a faux pas "M'lady, forgive my poor manners I'm Elmador Tarnhammer, scribe, engineer and chronicler of this journey and these are my friends and kinsmen. We are at your assistance" he manages to stammer out.

We are dwarves, hidden one, heirs to Dammerhall come to find our fallen city and reclaim our honour. Now why don't you come out from that hiding place and tell us what happened here. It'd be a courtesy to know what we are walking into and it may be we can help you. I assume you have companions? perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 I'm going to look closer at the wagon looking for goods, and then see if there are any surviving passengers in hiding

Elmador looks at the wagon amazed at the ingenuity of building a wagon from mushrooms and astonished at the size of the fungus. He looks around the area and then whispers out in undercommon "Greetings, if there's anybody there then I think now would be a good time to come out and tell us what befell you here. We mean you no harm at all".

He repeats his request a few times and if he gets no response then murmurs "Dain, we can come back here shortly but I think it might be for the best if we stay near t' the rest o' the party don't you?

Following his noisome investigation of the wagon Elmador makes an effort at stealth as he joins the others stealth: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

"Me frien's, be extra careful. See thas drag marks ohn there, 'n' those, there, look like footprints of naught I've seen afore, but it looks vaguely like spider web - look t'roof an all lads. An' s$!+ and bother if'n another devotee of the Silent Sister has met some misfortune at this spot an all"

Elmador is going to walk over to the drag marks to take a closer look.

my last post ended up having 100 (actually 100) d20 rolls in it so I deleted it!

Elmador casts his eyes ahead to look for footprints or other signs of recent passingperception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19.

He takes off his backpack and walks over to the wagon putting it there and helping his Familiar up onto the back of it too "stay here ma boy, we might be having trouble soon" he whispers. He rolls up his sleeve and pats his waist checking his component pouch is firmly attached.

if Elmador spots tracks then I'll roll knowledge [dungeoneering] check to see if I can identify them if that's okay? 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12

GM, would any of our divine casters be able to use create water to create ale/wine a la clerics of Cayden Cailean?
Not really, as she's not as heavily tied into drinking as Cayden is. And while the secrets of crafting fine booze is something she is relevant to, its consumption might be another matter- after all, massive consumption might lead one to the telling of secrets...

And as she doesn't have a mouth drinking might be a bit of a sore point...

Eek, I'd forgotten about the mule's not being able to see in the dark what with us all having darkvision. I'm guessing they're going to be guided. I can prepare light but it'd going to be tedious as hell to cast it every 10 minutes, though I guess spending 6 seconds every 10 minutes isn't so bad. Can do it while walking alongside them. Set up some sort of stick from the harness to dangle a stone in front of them. (I'm guessing that they won't be particularly happy about walking around in the dark...)
