I don't believe I got an order spawn for my subscriptions this time around. Sorry to be late about reporting the issue.

Thanks, Mike!

For the record, cartmanbeck deserves credit for the cake. It was his idea. I just did the less inspiring mechanics.

Silver Crusade

Awesome, thanks! He'll be relieved. When I told him the school had probably closed his doors, his response was "But my girls need me!" I'm okay with changing a few things. I want the PCs involved with the city.

Silver Crusade

Question: Did Lady Docur's School for Girls lock up its doors immediately when Thrune took over? I have a player who wants to be a only-sort-of-in-the-know professor there, and if I'm understanding Turn of the Torrent rumors correctly, at a certain point he would have been shut out.

Thanks! That's very helpful. I don't see him wanting to join them, but he would likely be aware of them.

Silver Crusade

But... I didn't go to GenCon...

Re: original #2. Gah! Did not read whole thing and was thinking of fly that escapes whether you defeat it or not.

Silver Crusade

#2 seems to me to be a clear case of "If something is impossible, don't do it."

I generally rule #1 the same way, unless you've already killed one, and then it becomes possible again.

It would depend on the exact wording of #3, but assuming the knowledge check is before you act, that comes before determining what cards are affecting the check, so yes, you could do that.

I'll let the experts weigh in, even though Theryon was just assuring me today that he's not an expert. :-p

Silver Crusade

My pattern on Alahazra tended to be explore once, then use the rest of my hand to scout, then reset my hand. I'd get a few scouts in between, but keep an attack spell for my turn. But I play in a three player game where I can scout pretty much everything.

Did you see the 3rd mini announced on yesterday's blog?

Silver Crusade

She can eventually get perception and survival off charisma, and I am all about MOAR SKILLS.

I'm excited for the oracle deck regardless of the characters inside, because it means I can play Alahazra from S&S in OP, and we have yet to see a set that her scouts would not make better.

Some scenarios do render her less effective. (I'm looking at you, Whalebone Pilk. Oh, but what's that second check to defeat? Divine? Have d12+2 to the face.)

Silver Crusade

I love, love, love Alahazra. She can recharge any card with the divine trait to scout, so you load up her deck with divine cards, and then tell everyone where things are. I played 2 scenarios a couple weeks back, and I think I did one combat. In the three player game, we almost always have at least half the blessing deck left because we always know what's coming and don't send anyone somewhere they can't handle.

Silver Crusade 4/5 ***

We had someone play Siwar. She died in her third scenario, and we had to expend a lot of resources propping her up to get her that far. Her starting deck only has 2 options for combat: lightning touch and inflict. And her strength is a d4. I actually want to play Siwar a lot, and I'm hoping she's more viable in Mummy.

Silver Crusade 4/5 ***

Your opponent/fellow adventurer. I'm really thinking the combination of competitive and cooperative could make for an interesting game. The person with the most money "wins," but you have to win the scenario too.

Silver Crusade 4/5 ***

Is it sad that I'm thinking up rules for this? If someone can't pay rent, they have to give you a card, or else forego any positive "at this location" benefits.

This can be the Legacy of Fire version. It IS in Katapesh, after all

Or you can buy a location the first time you go there, then the other players have to pay you rent...

One of my organizers compares running the box to being the banker in Monopoly.

Silver Crusade 4/5 ***

I ran this last week in the low tier. A player solved the puzzle right away.

One question I had---Henbane doesn't have knowledge(local), at least not at low tier, didn't check high. To use her bane ability, she has to be able to id the creature. Can we assume she knows the basic Society humanoids? Does she have to roll a 10 untrained to target them?

Finally, a Commoner class deck, for use in a housecat-themed set in order to settle the age-old question of which would win in a fight...

Now we need a Mr. Scruffy card.

Silver Crusade

Oracle class deck, cuz it means I can play Alahazra in guild play. I want to see what they do with the rest as well, since oracles are so varied.

I want to see what they do with my favorite rpg classes, so inquisitor and investigator. Imrijka had some really interesting powers, but I ended up not enjoying playing her, but I could see variations being fun. I'd like to see some crazy skill powers on investigators.

Silver Crusade

Oh, good. I was not looking forward to having to explain that to my players. Thanks!

Silver Crusade

No problem!

Silver Crusade

So I think I've been playing this wrong, and I wanted to check with everyone. Sorry if this has come up before and my search fu is failing me.

So the Cell in WotR has a "When Permanently Closed" condition that tells you to move to another location "and end your turn." I don't remember the exact wording, but the important thing is that it does not say "reset your hand and end your turn." So in the name of "Cards don't do what they don't say," I'm starting to think this means you don't get to reset your hand. But, you know, that's terrible, and I hate terrible, so I was hoping I was wrong.

So, if a card says to end your turn and does not say to reset your hand, do you skip the resetting?

Silver Crusade

Calthaer & Theryon, you should be approved to sign up now.

Silver Crusade 4/5 ***

It is also worth noting that if you acquire insufficient cards for everyone to get an upgrade, you roll on the plunder table (with 6 as a blessing) to determine what the other possible upgrades are.

Silver Crusade

Awesome, thanks! Best PACG party ever!

Silver Crusade

No prob. I'll grab a spot for you too.

Silver Crusade

Yup yup. You doing cards there?

Silver Crusade

I'll save you a spot til your approval goes through, Theryon

I played the RPG first, so I have a pretty big attachment to the iconics. And I like seeing the different versions of the same character. I like seeing the Raz's of the world, but when I get my paladin class deck, I'm going to be playing my favorite Seelah yet.

I'm so excited for class deck Seelah. She's everything I wish a (card game) paladin could be.

And I confess that Creepy Stalker's looking cooler than I thought he would.

Silver Crusade

I wasn't sure I would like Alahazra. I usually like standing up front and hitting things. I just picked her because my sister and her bf picked Merisiel and Jirelle, and I figured we needed someone with heals. Turns out I love her. I love being complete support and consider it a success when I do no combat checks in a game and can use my attack spells to scout.

I thought I would like Imrijka but ended up disappointed. I found myself having to spend everything shoring up combat that I wanted to be more effective on its own.

Yes, when I saw someone had a question about hand crossbows, my first thought was, "Is it 'Why are they so awesome?'"

Ugh! I so wish there was a store near me hosting the card guild. I might have to make a few special trips up into Pennsylvania or down into Maryland to get the full experience. Definitely need to see about getting and more play by post going.
Hawkmoon, I would be happy to schedule some game days in my neck of Maryland if you're going to plan to be there! Perhaps we could try to plan a couple of full days of gaming on a weekend? I could find us space in Baltimore pretty easily... it's the least I can do for such a helpful member of the community!!

100% this. I actually organize all day Saturday games north of Baltimore periodically and could be persuaded to do another soon.

Silver Crusade

Wait. Are we saying Indiana Jones has the divine skill? Cuz I'm just not seeing it. Maybe he has a power where he can use knowledge in place of divine...

Silver Crusade 4/5 ***

Hawkmoon, we play Tuesday nights at 7:30 at Bel Air Games in Bel Air, MD.

I could see it being an adventure reward? "Select a weapon or spell of your choice from your class box OR a weapon or spell of at least one level lower than the current adventure deck from another class box." Maybe add the caveat that you can never have cards from more than 2 classes in your deck.

Silver Crusade 4/5 ***

Is the mesmerist pregen evil? Cuz I read his backstory, and he seemed pretty evil.

(I'd download and look myself, but work won't upgrade past IE9.)

I am considering Raise Dead for my WotR Kyra, since I'll have plenty of spells and I can always recharge it to blast a demon or undead.

This. Though I was planning to have one in my deck anyway, because I'd rather have one and not need it than not have one and need it. Though mythic hierophant lessens the need for it a bit.

Silver Crusade

Any news on her being playable for OP? I'm asking for a friend. ;-)

Silver Crusade 4/5 ***

For the main game (outside of 1-0), players have to play from a class deck. I have all the class decks so that I can loan them to people who want to try the game, but you as an organizer are under no obligation to invest that much. Official rule is you have to have a class deck to play.

When I know how many people are coming, I try to prep ahead of time. I shuffle all the decks and deal out the cards for each location, then put elastic bands around them. I put the villains and henchmen on top so that a.) I can take them back out again if I need to re-allocate decks for last minute player changes and b.) the boss doesn't end up visible at the bottom. I haven't been doing this as much lately because of fluctuating table size and because I've been getting there early and have time. But sometimes pre-setup can mean the difference between playing one game or two.

Silver Crusade 4/5 ***

We've got some people who have played across seasons in Baltimore. Those of us who have been playing all along have a bunch of partial characters, and we converted some. And even with my new group, the other organizer with a box couldn't make it one week, so I had the second table play out of my Shackles box.

Silver Crusade 4/5 ***

They plan to release updated versions of SotS with updated scenario rewards. My thought has been "if it's a feat, you don't get it; if it's not a feat, you do."

Silver Crusade

Manor House on a boon-filled location. I loooooove the Manor House.

Silver Crusade

I figure Alahazra's charisma-based perception is the blindsight or blindsense she gets from her curse. No idea on the survival.

I'm looking forward to the kineticist. Constitution-based casting means constitution for something other than fortitude! We may need a whole new blessing for that.

Silver Crusade

Alahazra can get Perception: Charisma +2 and Survival: Charisma +2, and Imrijka can get Strength for Diplomacy.

Silver Crusade

Hm, yeah, the first syllable is a slur against Jewish people, albeit spelled wrong.

And obviously roosters say cock-a-doodle-doo.

Okay, even I don't think that sounds reasonable.
