Not sure why my message didn't go through beside, but thanks very much for the birthday wishes! Apologies for the delay in posting. I'm usually on top of things but my laptop died and with such a huge amount of work on my end at the minute I haven't been able to catch up on my phone. Never mind the fact typing forum code is incredibly laborious on an android phone. I should be able to catch up this weekend. I'm sorry if I've delayed you!

In response to the priest, Elegad cut in a little abruptly with his correction; It wouldn't be as a group. It would just be me, alone. I could probably lure them away and give them the slip.......probably. At Saulden's mention of a weapon, Elegad shook his head and looked towards the ground once more. Wouldn't know how to use it anyway. I get by as I am. Remaining silent through the drink talk, El's sharp ears picked something up. It was Orion and things hadn't exactly gone to plan. Umm, I think that Ranger guy needs help. As Saulden rushed ahead, El kicked the ground, sighed and casually followed with a slightly brisk walk.
Appearance
Bashfully approaching Saulden, Elegad hesitantly aired an idea he had. I could maybe try convincing the guards I have the Plague? Maybe they'll move.
Appearance
Elegad continues staring at the ground and simply responds to the overall conversation taking place around him, instead of addressing anyone specifically. I know my way around. Staying out of sight isn't really an issue for me. He did however, respond to Orion, tilting his head up as the Ranger spoke. If you go ahead, wanna find a way in above while I find a route below? Moving over to the food once more, he grabbed another chunk of bread and an apple for his journey, pouring himself a drink of water and thanking the woman in the room before making his way over to the inside of the door.
Appearance
Thanks! I turned 30 yesterday so was relaxing then and out in London with friends for the day on Saturday! :D Hopped out of my twenties and now the idea is to not have a crisis, haha.
Appearance
I think Heroism is something we may or may not develop over time. As it stands right now, as good as Elegad may actually be, he's not in a good place and currently has no incentive to become as good and heroic as he likely will eventually be. You can try and be as heroic as possible from the start, but then there's not as much character development. Paddy's probably not going to like how this will go down.
Appearance
Staring at the ground, Elegad sighed. He knew the old man all too well. Lamm deserves to suffer. He wouldn't hesitate in killing his own men if it meant having an advantage over anyone that would stand against him. Kicking the ground, he finished; Just reasoning with him endangers the lives of everyone around him. I should know. I was.... Elegad then stopped himself from saying any more and sat back down in the same spot as before.
Appearance
Finishing his bread, Elegad climbs to his feet and smacks the wall with a clenched fist behind him at the mention of yet more crimes Gaedren has committed and the high chance he'll be let off again. Lamm's going down. I don't care how, but a murderer such as him has no place in this world. He's not just wronged me.....HE'S WRONGED EVERYONE!
Appearance
At the point where Paddy asked if Elegad is the boys name, he simply nodded, somewhat ignoring the comment of help on offer here. I know enough about him to make most others want to take a s%#@ on his pathetic existence. The s!$~ he did to me.....and the others. Even if I don't get the chance to kill him, others will. He's good at making enemies. Looking up at Red Feather, he simply remarked; No clue. If we were all told to meet here, we may as well wait. I've not exactly got much to do with myself....
Appearance
Walking in, Elegad listened to the men talking to one another, nodding as Saulden told Orion his name. As Orion approached, out of politeness El went to shake the Rangers hand, but drew it back instantly, quickly catching on that Orion had little interest in speaking with him in favour of talking over him, as though his existence meant nothing. This was like any other day to the boy and as much as it irritated him, he ignored it, choosing to pick up a round loaf of bread that dropped out from the basket. The boy was hungry. Though poison was a possibility, he figured it was unlikely, but really was just far too hungry to care. Perching himself on the ground and up against the wall, he sat with his knees up as he continually bit chunks out of the bread. This isn't Lamm he said, his words somewhat muffled by the food in his mouth. Elegad then listened, commenting only at the part where Saulden spoke of the missing girl. That piece of s!~@ would have more use of her as a slave than a corpse. He's probably got her drugged up in some hole while he's off feeding some other poor kid to his pet Crocodile. The scummy old f~!@... The kids words were said with a great deal of apathy, though he seemed to speak as if he knew Lamm personally and with a great deal of spite within his voice.
Appearance
Pulling out his own note from his only functional pocket in the back of his tattered trousers, he unfolded it in front of Saulden for no longer than necessary and scrunched it back into his rear pocket. Brushing his right hand across his hole-ridden shirt, the boy hesitantly grasped the mans hand, raising an eyebrow at the mention of the cat. As homeless, outspoken and angst-ridden as he could be, he still had manners and tried to express them to those kind enough to acknowledge his existence. Elegad. Guessing he f~*+ed you over, too?
Appearance
If you click on appearance under my character name, that's what Elegad looks like, only currently with unwashed hair (excluding the rain), tanned trousers and a lighter shirt (both of which are very tattered and far too small for him), no shoes and a slightly dirty face. Paddy - Orion didn't open the door. He asked you to! With no instant reply, Elegad knocked on the door once more. As he waited, he noticed a couple of men approaching from the right, prompting him to slowly back himself against the door frame, so as not to be surprised by who or whatever was behind the door and to at least keep an eye on those who approached. Hanging his head down in a shy manner, Elegad glared up through his sodden fringe as the armoured man spoke. Though very quiet in his response, the boy responded to Saulden evasively, untrusting of the note and those around him. I received a note. It told me to come here. I'm now here and there's nobody in...
Appearance
No problem! Enjoy your non-ill weekend. Though you'll probably feel terrible after a hangover, haha.
Appearance
Spending most of his time out on the streets, moving from location to location, Elegad thanked the old woman for her....hospitality and made way for Lancet Street - An area he'd come to know over the past few years. The house was easy enough to find, being the only building still lit this late at night. Standing there, in the middle of the road and staring up at the sign, he let out a slight sarcastic laugh as the rain washed over him. "Zellara! Seer of the spirits! Cipher of the city!".....Ha, what crap is this? Walking a few steps forward, he sighed before knocking on the front door. Here goes...
Appearance
As soon as the smell hit El, the boy politely declined, regardless of how hungry he actually was. Th-thanks, but...I'm not all that hungry. I've got a lot of s#!@ to deal with tonight. Deception to Bluff: 1d20 ⇒ 9 I don't think I have a proficiency bonus is Deception and I have no Charisma bonus, so I'm just going with a basic d20 roll, but if I'm wrong please correct me. I'm a Barbarian atm, but next level will be a Fighter to get both fists into action.
Appearance
I'm going to be in Ireland from tomorrow up until late Sunday night, so unless I can get on the wifi, I won't be available again until late Sunday/early Monday. I live in England so it's not far for me, but I thought I'd let you know. :)
Appearance
Satisfied with the amount of tobacco given and the welcomed hospitality, Elegad pulled the papers from his separate pouch and went to roll a fresh cigarette inside the Gnomes residence and out of the damp, before realising the piece he'd pulled out was actually a note addressed to him. Surprised, he unrolled it, reading the content within. Whoever this is...I don't care. We've both got the same goal. Yea, I know. It could be a ploy to lure me out, but I won't ever know unless I go there and this......THIS could lead me to the path I've been searching for, for so long now. Standing in front of the door, Elegad clenched his right fist and with an expression of ill-intent, simply uttered the word Lamm! Having a sudden change of heart about things, the boy turned to the old Gnome woman, looking down towards the ground and asked with a somewhat forced smile I need to be somewhere a little later on. Mind if I stay here a few hours more? I won't spark up until I'm gone. He clearly didn't expect a positive response. Dunno if this woman wrote the note, but if she didn't and it was somehow snuck into her stash, I'd better keep this to myself.
Appearance
I'm just gonna roll with this because I refused to take any starting gear or wealth as I wanted to be truly homeless, haha! Sitting there, up against the wall and just staring out towards the Jeggare river in the distance, Elegad rustled through his pouch of tobacco, only to be disappointed at the lack of anything in it. Damn. Should'a known I'd be out by now. It was late, but not too late and while the rain dripped down onto him from the overhead ramp, he figured he had nothing better to do than to head to that old woman for more of her tobacco. The weather's s~*$, but I may as well head out. F%$+ it. It's the only thing keeping me sane in this s#!%hole. Lifting himself to his feet, Elegad poked his head out and peered around the building where the imp had landed, deciding to then move up to it before kicking it twice, making sure it's dead. Yea, this thing's going nowhere, but.... he momentarily paused, noticing a couple of Copper pieces among the debris surrounding the dead creature. That'll do he said, pocketing both coins as he made his way to the old Gnome woman several blocks down for a decent amount of tobacco. Fortunate enough to live within a shack, Elegad knocked twice on her door, wiping the back of his hand across his nose as he sniffed from a cold he'd just recently got. He stood there saturated, as the rain had turned him from street rat into drowned rat in a mere matter of minutes. As the door opened, the boy looked towards the woman with a pained expression, before uttering the words I'm out, gesturing towards his empty tobacco pouch and flashing two copper coins to the woman with his other hand.
Appearance
Same with my Berserk game. One player did that and didn't answer a PM or anything. Now I'm down to three players, the pacing is practically at a standstill and I think I'm going to have to stop the game.
Appearance
Yea, that works. As for maps, I mean you could just use the snip tool for what the arena looks like and we go from there? I've never run a campaign for CotCT or read it, but I do actually have the whole AP, so I can just reference that for maps and ignore everything else. I'll be using descriptive text a lot myself anyway.
Appearance
Ah, cool. I know inspiration is a big thing for 5E. You get an inspiration dice for doing something intelligent or great at DM discretion. :) Thanks! As for maps I know you said you hate making them, but I have a Roll20 account and Photoshop, so if you have the map folio I can manage that for you? One thing I miss due to PBP is seeing what the characters look like, but I guess if you give us the names we can just google it. :)
Appearance
So instead of finding +1 Armour, treasure, Masterwork gear etc like in the AP, all magic items will be stripped out, just leaving the mundane like a jewellery box, gold, gems etc? I guess it makes sense with 5E, but I'll definitely miss magic items. I guess my main thing though is revenge on Lamm and (hopefully) being able to join the Sable Marines during the campaign and if 5E doesn't rely on magic items, I've not got a problem with that. It's more about the roleplaying. :) Saying that, is there a way to obtain Magic Armour or Weapons? Or will you just be including what you'd like us to have over the course of the campaign to find?
Appearance
If it was entirely different, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have stuck with calling it Curse of the Crimson Throne, though being honest the only thing I saw saying it was different was the fact it was using 5E rules instead of Pathfinder and would have "some" changes. How much you're changing I don't know, but I'm happy to continue whenever we end up starting. Lamm and the Sable Marines are pretty much El's only ties to this AP, so hopefully both things will be resolved there, but not knowing what you have planned, I can't comment on much else. Still kinda hoping the more notable characters are here though! Ileosa etc. I kinda like homebrew, though. It gives you more as a GM to work with, to enrich player experience. I also think the 5E system isn't as restrictive, so you can end up with more diverse characters than those of Pathfinder builds, even though it's a simpler system.
Appearance
If you want to run the start of the game straight from this bar game so any winnings people have are legit, Elegad will be in the process of investigating where Lamm's hideout is out on the street, so feel free to put him wherever, or let me know and I can type an official gameplay post and then transition it into the start of the game. :)
Appearance
- El's birth mother was Taldan, while his real father was from Kyonin. As such, he's a mixture of both. - Though not religious himself, a Priest of Shelyn once took pity on Elegad during his roughest time - The time he was heavily addicted to Shiver. The priest successfully weaned him through it and got him off of the drug. Though thankful in his own way, Elegad didn't really show it, didn't take note of the priests name and left without exchanging many words, but has since then taken to knocking drugs/syringes out of peoples hands whenever he sees someone on the stuff. Perhaps one day when he's a more respectable guy he'll seek out Priest and thank him properly in whatever way he decides is appropriate. - No day job. Being homeless he just finds what he can to survive on, stealing food unnoticed if he has to....which, is usually the case. - Family situation is in my backstory (you're all welcome to read it). His birth parents are in the City but have nothing to do with him. Whether his birth father tried finding him or not is unknown, but Elegad has never met his birth father and knows nothing about him, while his birth mother has a family of her own and wants nothing to do with him, abandoning him twice in his lifetime. - Elegad has no friends. He was once one of Lamm's Lambs and has since then managed to leave that life, but now just fends for himself on the street. He's bitter towards Lamm and wants him dead and sees Lamm's Lambs as slaves to the guy who once controlled him. As such, his issue isn't with them. If anything he can relate and so takes pity on them. - El lives on the Rooftop Shingles of Garrison Hill. If another member of the party saw him, he wouldn't have spoken to them. He trusts nobody right now and hasn't for a long time and not long ago was so junked up on Shiver he wasn't even aware of his surroundings for a good few years. He spent most of his time in dream like states, vividly imagining a better world that during this time, felt more real than his own existence to him. To onlookers, he was just another Junkie on the streets and perhaps one that many thought the world could do without.
Appearance
Well with Elegad, due to his current way of living, his forced criminal activity and not so distant Shiver addiction, you might have seen him in the street or for some reason caught sight of him on the Garrison Hill rooftop Shingles, but he wouldn't have approached any of you. He was very much a slave of Gaedren and is very much a lone wolf. Nobody alive cares for him that he knows of and he trusts nothing but his own judgment. That should hopefully help or give you something to go on.
Appearance
I'm looking forward to starting this and hopefully it won't fizzle out before it's begun, like so many PBP's on here! :)
Appearance
He acts on impulse and Rage and until he can control that properly, he'll be jumping between the two Classes, eventually falling more on the fighter side than barbaric side. It's all about the transition. His class and personality will dynamically evolve with the story.
Appearance
Hey Orion. :) It's more just for the class. His Pathfinder interpretation was also a mixture of Barbarian and Fighter. He's not a Barbarian by nature or any sense of the word. It's more the abilities the Barbarian offer that suited his style. He's a commoner living in the slums visually. Nothing more, nothing less. The +2 Charisma wasn't a problem for me. Sure, it would have been nice to have it in Strength or Con, but I don't like having negative stats, so just keeping it at a 10 was fine for me. I'll always place a concept above what stats I'm given and just make my concept work. In my head he's always had to fight with angst, he's been good at surviving against all odds and he can take a hit. In Pathfinder terms that meant I had to go with the Barbarian Class (not an actual Barbarian) primarily for damage reduction, Die Hard, Endurance and a whole lot of health. His Barbarian abilities represented his ability to survive, while his Fighter abilities represented his ability to fight, once he'd learned how. It just so happened that the mechanics had a similar enough vibe that Barbarian suited him at first level. Next level I'm going Fighter (Champion) and taking the Pugilist fighting style. The character himself was always a Half-Elf. That was the first thing I decided on before anything else and really wanted to play up the whole Half-Elves are shunned thing. I don't play them often, but they're my favourite race - Not due to their abilities, but just the theme they have. If Elves are attractive and humans are attractive, I see them as usually taking the best elements from both parent races, unknowingly becoming the most attractive race out there with the most potential to change the world.
Appearance
Thanks for choosing me! Sorry about the length! It was a beautiful day. The sky was blue, the clouds at a minimum, large, fluffy and white and Elegad was at Garrison Hill, laying on his back on one of many rooftops, staring up at the sky above, cigarette in hand. Putting the stick to his mouth, the boy inhaled deeply as the calm Korvosan breeze washed over him. Watching on as a small group of Sable Marines took to the skies, Elegad enjoyed the sight of their somewhat graceful presence. It was oddly comforting to the boy, seeing them so high up above the City, soaring high above, almost as if they were beyond worry, sadness and even the cruel nature of this world. Continuing to watch, the group passed over Elegad's head, one of them swooping in a little close for comfort, sending a strong gust of wind across the boys body. It was only 10-15ft above him and the outstretched wings of the Hippogriff were truly impressive. One day he thought to himself. That could be me. I'm good to start whenever. Everything is complete for me. :)
I realised I never did finish Elegad's story. I got to a stage where I just bullet pointed the rest all those years back, so I've just updated it all. It can be read in 5-10 minutes and looks longer than it reads, but the short of it is this: * Elegad is currently living on the streets (Urchin background).
His fighting style revolves around survivability and free-hand fighting, so he'll be all about hand to hand combat, grappling, being able to take a hit, high hit points and good defenses, putting him primarily as a Barbarian with multiple Fighter levels and a couple of handy feats (Tavern Brawler and things like Resilient etc). Anything he comes across and is allowed, he'll keep, forcing his character and fighting style to develop with the story. Hopefully my passion for this character shines through, but I do apologise in advance for the long backstory. He's pretty deep and built entirely for this campaign. Hopefully I'll get the chance to play with you all! :)
@Inxpitter - You might be in luck. DM Jam wrote: Alright folks, I think that I am going to stop taking submissions at 4pm EST today. If you've posted a concept (doesn't have to be a full character)before then, it will be considered for the game. I've got a busy night tonight, so I'll do the choosing tomorrow morning sometime. At that point, we can move character creation and background stuff over to the discussion thread.
DM Jam wrote:
Excellent! Sure it's not first level, but only because thematically the Barbarian's abilities fit the characters lifestyle more, but level 2 is good enough! Thanks Jam and Vrog. It took me a little while to find the source for this, but then I saw Arcanis and downloaded it.
Yea, I mean I've had a good look at the Feats myself and although Tavern Brawler is a good one to get for me and fits very well, it doesn't allow you to choose to grapple or attack. It just allows for you to grapple as a bonus action with a free hand. T a v e r n B r a w l e r
If it's not possible to do this at level 1 without going Monk, what I'll have to do is go 1 level Barbarian, 1 level Monk and then take my levels into Fighter later on (after level 5), because taking one level of Monk just for the ability of fighting with two hands (I literally want nothing else from the Monk class), sets me back 1 level, meaning I couldn't actually get a feat until level 5. I would blame my concept, but I made him for Pathfinder initially, played him briefly in Savage World's, so thought it would be just as easy to accomplish with 5E. I guess two out of three isn't bad, but it is what it is. Still, I do like how universal the feats are. No matter what class you are, you can choose almost any feat and use it just as well as any other character of any class. The decision is in your jammy hands, DM. :)
I could always shuffle my stats around to accomplish that, but then I have the tough choice of sacrificing survivability for being able to punch twice in one round. 5E really doesn't like natural weapons. Thematically it makes sense for my angst-ridden chain smoker to start off as a Barbarian - He's angry at the world, homeless and has somehow survived all this time. Just imagining him as a Monk (even for class purposes and not a Monk in any other sense of the word) is a bit cringe.
@Threeshades - That's insane. It's attached to you and deals a measly 1 point of damage, plus your base mod. Massive shame. Both Pathfinder and Savage Worlds allowed for me to build him with two-weapon fighting at level 1 and the whole concept with his fighting style is a free-hand fighter, so it seems a little odd I won't be able to fight with two fists/fist and sword until level 5 or whenever you get your first stat bump (needed to purchase a feat). Is there no way to make it work at all, other than waiting that long? I'll be doing lots of 3-5 damage haymakers otherwise...
Okay, so I got there in the end. I still don't know for sure if I get a Bonus Action to attack with my off-hand and I swear I read ages ago that the stats and skills you're proficient in automatically give you advantage, but I can't find that anywhere so I've left that out. He's going to be a Berserker Barbarian/Standard Fighter. He's out for Lamm's blood and dreams of becoming a Sable Company Marine. All of this will hopefully send him on the right track for this AP. My backstory should do the rest. Hopefully you like him! Elegad Espris' Build: Elegad Espris Level: 1 Class: Barbarian Alignment: Neutral Good Senses: Dark Vision Fey Ancestry: Advantage on saves vs charmed and magic can't put you to sleep. F e a t u r e City Secrets:
S k i l l s: Acrobatics: +3
Equipment: Nothing but a decorative and effeminate pendant/necklace, with a tiny portrait of he and his adoptive mother inside. This is the only keepsake he has. His clothes are tattered, riddled with holes and filthy. He has no shoes, only a pair of distressed brown trousers that are now too short for him, looking more like tightly fitting three quarter lengths and a baggy, ruined, cream coloured cotton shirt. Also, a single pack of cigarettes, with three left.
Thanks! I found that not too long ago and am trying to work out if, wielding a light weapon (my own fist), I'd get a bonus action to fight with my other fist. The closest I can find is with a Fighter that states with the Action Surge "you may attack one additional time, as well as a possible bonus action", but it doesn't state what makes that bonus action possible, making me think from the ruling you quoted, I'd be able to use a bonus action due to both weapons (fists) being light. Up to you, but this kid has nothing, so he'll be fighting in rags with nothing but his own body as a weapon. The idea is, everything he finds along the adventure will start shaping who he is, what he represents and how he fights. I'm not having any wealth or any equipment at level 1, so ignoring all of that. I've got 14 Strength and fists do a flat 1 damage (until you can get feats and class abilities later), so he'll be doing 3 damage per hit and if he's allowed to use his other fist, 4 damage per round as his off-hand won't yet get his strength bonus.
Jam - The only stat arrays I can see are: 1. 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8
We're limited to just these instead of the point buy aren't we? If so, I'll keep it simple and just go with option 1. The only thing I'm still having trouble working out is two-weapon fighting. I'm starting off as a Barbarian because it fits best with a character struggling to survive.
No problem! I did get a little carried away a year or two back when I came up with him. I'm just making the build now. I know all about the advantage system and a fair bit about how the game works, but am just refreshing myself with character creation. Being able to fight with a Sword and Fist at the same time is my main goal, so I'm looking into how I can make that work. :)
Hey! As with the other CotCT thread that came up, I made this character specifically for this campaign and would love to play through it fully. The furthest I got before was finishing off the first villain and then the game sadly ended. I do miss Kimiko, the female Nagaji Samurai. She was another players character and became a sort of mother and authoritarian figure over Elegad. He's a free-hand Fighter (Longsword in one hand, nothing in the other) able to punch, kick, stab and headbutt in combat. He can take a hit (damage reduction), so I'll have to multi-class most likely as I think the Barbarian is the only class that gets DR in 5E. He starts with no gear, so I'll likely skip starting wealth to represent living on the street. The campaign will turn his life around. I'll need to work out how to make him for 5E (I only own the DMG), but would love to be considered. All info is already complete in this alias profile. I'd just need to stat him out as a 5E character (which I need to refresh my mind with, as I'm not too familiar with the rules....but I do love Critical Role!). I'd also be happy to use my Roll20 account to put the maps up for the party.
I would love to play Curse of the Crimson Throne. I've always wanted to play it all the way through, but sadly only made it past the first villain before the campaign on here ended several years back. It was using the Savage Worlds system at the time, but I'd absolutely love to play in CotCT. This is the character I used for Savage Worlds and was made sheerly for this campaign. If you decide to run it, I would love to join your game. This is his complete alias. :)

Yea, I've been waiting on your response GM DoctorEvil. I sent you a PM with things I'd like to carry over (story wise, not equipment wise), so have been awaiting a response ever since lol. I don't want to dot for updates. I'd rather get a hefty post up, but yea, please have a look at the PM I sent! :) |
