Male Human Monk 6th

Stepping forward now Edmond scowls noticeably." Lyssa is right, there is no such conveniences in the Stolen lands." His eyes settle heavily on Brennor." Such Idealism has no place at this point Brennor. If it was going to be pretty work I assure you they'd have no more need of us than the common man at that ridiculous ball we attended." His words are strong, his none unfaltering." I will not romanticize banditry. I see a man sneaking into our camp to steal our food stores and I'll cut him down just the same as if he'd drawn my own blood." His eyes almost look hollow as his own mention of blood draws his thoughts to a dark elsewhere in his memory." If you're interested in playing jury Brennor, I'll let you know just as I said before, Any bandit who crosses this expedition, barring overwhelming odds, shall consider his life forfeit to my steel and the steel of the Sword Lords."

Thanks! And I've really enjoyed your "show, don't tell" approach. Someday we may learn IC what happened, but not today, and that makes it more real.

I'm glad you're liking it, Edmond really isn't that gruff of a character but he should come off as such, and sometimes it is hard to portray introversion and still be an interesting character to roleplay without revealing all of his thoughts with monologue or some other device, so regardless, i appreciate you appreciating it, haha

Edmond shifts uncomfortably as Tudan brings up the banditry. He looks around, as if to wait for anyone to respond, but then stands and declares simply."I say you're a man after my own heart Tudan." and swiftly walks to the edge of camp. Leaning against a tree, he unsheathes his sword and takes to refining the edge. Whilst keeping a wary eye and ear to his surroundings, it is obvious Edmonds thoughts are elsewhere.

Male Human Monk 6th

Edmond walks with the pace of a soldier on the course of their trek to Oleg's. His mind seems to wander, but he is stoic. He doesn't avoid conversation, just doesn't seek it, seemingly content with his own company.

Tudan Davken wrote:
So... we were all thrown together rather abruptly. How about quick introductions, why you think you were chosen for this expedition, and what role you expect to play? I'm sure that'll raise enough questions to keep us busy getting to know each other better all the way to Oleg's.

"Edmond Odravam. As a respected alumni of the Odravam dueling school, My skill is considerable with blade. I can live off the land, and I'm knowledgable in engineering, having made a living as such for a few years." His mind wanders off for a few moments before he coninues"As to why I was chosen, I suppose it has to do with my aforementioned skills, and admittedly, a favorable word or two from my father I'm sure. I'm eager to make my own name, so i'm glad for the opportunity. I plan to make sure any bandit we come across meets his deserved penalty of death, preferably under my blade or bootheel, as decreed under the charter I've recieved." His tone is surprisingly somber, speaking matter of factually, and not as a braggart.

Male Human Monk 6th

Edmond shall be the second to arrive. The man walks out of the mist shouldering his pack which was well loaded. It's early, but a strict dueling school training regiment had Edmond used to keeping such hours, and he felt revitalized my the morning haze.

" Good Morning Hathin was it?" he begins" I'm Edmond in case you're as bad with names as I am. My skill is primarily with my Blade, a duelist by trade these days. Humor me Hathin, what made the Swordlords choose you?"

I'm Ready to begin the journey as well, as soon as the rest of our party gathers i suppose

Male Human Monk 6th

Edmond rolls the charter up tightly and smiles modestly"Very well, I have no desire to prolong my stay at this gathering either. Where shall we meet on the morrow?"

Male Human Monk 6th

Edmond had worked in the untamed lands of the south but he hardly considered himself experienced in the land, save for seeing the place in his nightmares. He noticeably shudders, as if touched by a cold wind. He hopes to avoid being noticed by absorbing himself in reading the charter "Brennor I believe our first course will be to Venture to this "Oleg's Trading post." Admittedly I've not been out and about trading as of late, do any of you know the place?"

Male Human Monk 6th

Gathering now with the other party members, he smiles graciously but with ever present sad eyes."Edmond Odravam is my name," He begins, fidgeting with the scroll in his off hand as his right hand rests on the hilt of his sword."It seems we shall forge this part of our legacy together." He declares with a slight bow of his head." A pleasure to meet you all"

Is the link to the rolled scroll/charter working for anyone else? I get an "error 400 bad request" page

Edmond moved with spirit in his step as he was caught in the moment. He had come to have great confidence as a swordsman, and it was beginning to spill over into his personality when he let it. He glances at the others and decides he would withhold any judgements until he had came to know them better. Arriving where the major stands Edmond nods"Major" he greets the man clearly and simply, and glances over his shoulder only once, to observe the looming crowd. Edmond's heart was racing.

Male Human Monk 6th

Edmond arrives late, which was uncommon for him. He walked as swiftly as he could through the main doors and was caught off guard by his introduction by the court heralds."Edmond Odravam of the Odravam Dueling school of Brevoy, Assigned to the Nalmarches" Or where ever it is that we're assigned, i'm just going on that ooc post up there

Standing there slightly dumbfounded, is Tall and Wiry Edmond. His eyes are sunken and weighed upon heavily by the bags beneath him, and his graying-black beard was coming in strong due to an apparent negligence to his straight razor . A solidly constructed chain shirt can be spotted underneath a deep blue tabard lined with yellow and orange. Emblazoned diagonally across his torso is the image of a green Aldori dueling sword, as if braced to riposte. On his left hip hangs a well used sword of the same kind.

He bows low respectfully, and soon finds an out of the way place to stand with long arms crossed as he waits for the proceeding of events.

Male Human Monk 6th

I think it'll be an interesting group dynamic, Erastil might be a favorite deity.

As for Edmond, he'll pay respect to the popular faith but his personal faith is closest to that of Iomedae.

Any thoughts?

Male Human Monk 6th

Here's Edmond Odravam, LG Fighter. He'll be making use of the Aldori Swordlord archtype, so we'll see how that goes. Personality wise Edmond is slightly grim, his background made sure of that. He is determined however and knows his morals now more than ever, and he'll be outspoken about them.

Still need to buy equipment, So i should get that done tonight or tomorrow.

Spoiler:

Edmond is tall and wiry. At 6'2, but weighing only about 160 pounds, he doesn't look like the classic swordsman, however, his steps are sure and graceful and he flows like a river with his chosen blade in hand. His armor and clothing are worn pristine, and his black hair is kept short. Edmond has sad eyes, and his gaunt face looks tired beyond his 28 years, cheeks sunken and covered in coarse stubble, he bears considerable bags beneath his eyes. He dresses often in tones of blue, orange, and greens.

Background:

Spoiler:

Twenty Eight years ago, a crying babe was born to the young couple of Edmond and Johanna Odravam. The parents named the Boy after his Father, and so began Edmond the second's path. His parents had been born in Restov as had their parents and their parents before them. His father opened a small dueling school, utilizing a technique modeled after the Aldori Swordlords.

By the time Edmond was a teenager, the school had become a success. Although the boy displayed natural talent for the blade, and though his father had hoped his son would live as a swordsman, Edmond originally pursued a life as an engineer working for the city of Restov. He had always had a calculating mind, and displayed an aptitude for mathematical equations associated with his first career. He married the daughter of an Accomplished engineer on his 18th birthday and was taken under his father-in-law's wing. Life was good for the young man, and was as such for nearly half a decade.

Tragedy struck when Edmond and his wife Ava were in the Stolen Lands. The couple were staying in a small encampment while Edmond helped oversee the construction of a nearby bridge. The job was the largest he had been involved with, and Ava had recently discovered she was pregnant. Life was moving along smoothly for the ambitious couple. It wouldn't last however.

A group of bandits who made their living ambushing travelers further down the river feared the bridge would threaten their livelihood, took action, and burnt the bridge, and raided the encampment under the cover of night. Against his wife's protests, Edmond picked up his Aldori Dueling sword and rushed to fight back. Overwhelmed, brash, and overconfident, Edmond took a blow to the head from a club and was knocked unconscious early in the fight. The hired muscle of the camp were able to finally repel the attackers, but not before numerous lives were lost, and the bridge was damaged beyond repair. Edmond awoke to the smell of charred wood and the news that the life he had known had quickly been dismantled by this bandit attack. Ava, and his unborn child, had been murdered in cold blood, as she tried to pull his unconscious body to cover. So it goes.

In the weeks and months following the incident, Edmond fell into a deep depression. He felt ultimately responsible for the death of his family, had he not been so weak, he could have saved them, he told himself. His father invited the now 25 year old back to his Dueling School, and although Edmond took months to escape his self pity, eventually he accepted the offer, and began his martial training.

Edmond has displayed an unparallelled devotion to the Aldori Dueling blade in the last three years and has quickly became his father's star pupil. His father was asked to send his best student to the ball in Restov where several groups will be brought before being sent to tame the wild Stolen Lands, and Edmond was the obvious choice.

DM Keddah

Spoiler:
I honestly hadn't given it a whole lot of thought, and was kind of leaving it open in case you had an idea you wanted to run with. There could be a chance that Ava survived and was carried off or whatever you can think of. I like the idea of Edmond being none the wiser at first however. He's a man who has dedicated his life to the blade in order to numb the emotional trauma he experienced three years prior, and he still has nightmares about it. Perhaps Edmond will hear rumors that his wife and unborn child lived, and it would certainly increase his want to leave no rock unturned in the exploration of the stolen lands.

Additionally, i feel I should note, I plan to at least increase his knowledge(Engineering) as he increases in level. He lived a successful life as an Engineer and it's a passion of his. I know it won't come into play for awhile but when it does, Edmond will be very interested in the Architecture/designing of streets and buildings of the new kingdom

do you intend to take the Aldori Swordlord archetype?

That's the plan, I think it looks really cool and fits the build/concept.

DM_Keddah wrote:

What are his reasons to want to join the quest to tame the Stolen Lands?

Kind of took some liberties and I'm saying that his father's dueling school is of some moderate prestige in Restov, and as Edmond is his father's legacy, and also his current star pupil( and I hope that's not too much of a stretch of the imagination, given he's a 1st level fighter and not even an optimized one, heh), Edmond is sent forth as the best his family has to offer. Besides that, Edmond has a few of his own motivations. I gave him the sword scion trait, and as such, he hopes to live and emulate the Sword Lords he grew up hearing so much about. He sees himself as the next in line of great Swordlords to unite Brevoy, and plans to make his Name in the Stolen lands. Also, his last excursion into the Stolen Lands resulted in the death of his family, and although he does his best to avoid feeling vengeful, Edmond has an undeniable score to settle with the more bloodthirsty cut throats that hide away in the Stolen Lands.

Yeah I think I'll throw this up here as well

Thanks so much for the consideration DM Keddah

Edmond here will follow in the footsteps of the Swordlords. Crunch is up pretty much entirely, just working on a bit of a background.
