I have to agree with DuckScape on this one...CtD v.1 was enjoyable for me until my DK (Duckling Keeper) decided cygnets were superior to ducklings because of the latest sourcebooks and completely changed the focus of the game.
I think your DK should have talk with you guys before altering the focus of an ongoing duckling hunt like that. IMHO that's just bad DKing. Like all games that have been around for awhile, CtD: 1st started to suffer from power creep. It's true though, that a lot of the later source books were just broken. But Revised is gonna be a chance to correct balancing issues and whatnot. Who knows, you might even end up loving to capture cygnets (they'll probably end up revising the A Swan's Story source book eventually, so I'm sure the cygnets will be back).
Yeah, but, they're going to have to completely overhaul goslings to make them a player capturer race. They're perfect in the Mallard Manual, just leave them there. I had a player once who I let play a gosling. Broken! I mean, he had the shiniest feathers AND he would swim and fly faster than the regular ducks. He was capturing 2 or 3 ducklings for every normal duck.
No your right, I probably just wasn't clear enough. They are gonna be in the Mallard Manual (from what I read at least), along with their parental guardians, Geese (who supposedly will no longer be player options, but just rivals). Personally I don't see why you'd want to capture goslings if you can't be a Goose, but house ruling fixes all : ), so I'm happy to just wait and see what they come up with.
Catch ya l8rs!
