So I've been hankering to make an outlandish monk build because I haven't really made a truly odd monk in quite some time. Enter a trait for Idyllkin Aasimar known as the Enlightened Warrior, it allows me to have a NG or TN monk. With this in mind I made a Sensei/ Qinggong/ Drunken Master that at level 6 becomes an Evangelist of his god, Cayden Cailean. Now Evangelist gives me proficiency with rapiers, however Insightful Strike only says I can use Wisdom to hit with unarmed strikes and monk weapons.
Does the language of Ki Intensifying mean I can apply Insightful Strike to my rapier or do I have to ask my GM (don't have a game for this guy yet) if I can get the Guided enchantment? I know it is not a monk weapon and that I wouldn't be able to use certain abilities with it, but the Sensei does not have Flurry of Blows so it is not a huge loss.
So I've been looking at the Possessed Hand feat for a druid idea involving the Death Druid and I was wondering whether or not I can use a one-handed weapon in two-hands and still get my insight bonus to hit and damage. My friend and I think you can, but it never hurts to check with the forums.
So I've been making quite a few characters as I break out of some sort of writers block but I need some advice for a character I've made. Well ... her eidolon to be exact, as dear, sweet Rana is an unchained summoner.
You see Rana Stonebridge is an Unchained Spirit Summoner whose lovely spirit just happens to be a Life Spirit. This gives her the ability to Channel Energy and will later help boost her healing capacity, as Rana is a healer of Dalenydra (an Empyreal Lord of pacifistic healers and battle medics) and is therefor a bit of a conscientious objector when it comes to things like battle. Not that she won't do things like heal or buff in battle, just that she would never strike the first blow against a creature. This is where Bellicosus comes in.
You see where Rana is a pacifist Bellicosus is much more of the crusading mindset which, on many occasions, has lead to some massive arguments between him and his charge. The question is what type of goodly eidolon do you all think this guy would be? I originally went for Agathion and styled him off an Avoral Agathion, but now I am not so sure as he could very well be an Angel, Archon, or Azata what with his somewhat short temper and love of battling evil. The real problem comes from the fact that not only am I unsure of his subtype, but also of what kind of celestial would be sent to Rana in order to hopefully stem his ... lust for battle. As always any help is much appreciated.
So a friend and I were just talking about a character idea I had for a Life Spirit shaman when I noticed Spirit Warden and thought to myself, "Well, my guy does hate spirits quite a bit due to being LG and seeing undead as being an affront to the cycle of reincarnation" and decided to look at it further. And that is when I noticed Rebuke Undead, which works like Channel Positive Energy but only damages undead. My question is how does Rebuke Undead work with feats like Alignment Channel and Extra Channel (as in can I use Alignment Channel with Rebuke Undead and does Extra Channel affect either channel or both)?
So I'm rebuilding an old character concept o' mine and I came across the fact that a medium can only have one legendary spirit at a time, my question is does that include the Nex spirit or is it exempt due to the fact that it replaces wholesale the archmage spirit (and therefor becomes the new archmage spirit)? I'm asking because I have an idea for a character that eventually has Abrogail Thrune 1 as a legendary spirit, said character being a man of the Order of the Gate who believes that finding Nex's Spire and the man himself would help impose order through magic through Nex's supreme mastery of magic. Abrogail Thrune 1 being an individual my character would love nothing more than to bargain with for more magical prowess.
So I was looking around on the Archives of Nethys when I ran into a feat called Spontaneous Nature's Ally and one of the prerequisites is that I need the Animal or Plant domain. My question is if I took the Feather or Growth subdomain would it still count or would I be s@+$ out of luck?
So I saw earlier today that the Holy Book used by the Living Grimoire inquisitor archetype is counted as a simple weapon (by the Horror Adventures FAQ) but my question is which kind of simple weapon? I think it is supposed to be a light weapon due to the fact that it references the light mace, however I am not sure and haven't seen anything about it (or have not found any threads regarding this). Any confirmation or speculation would be much appreciated.
So I have been contemplating making a character that adheres to the Prophecies of Kalistrade and seem to be stuck and would love some advice or suggestions. I originally wanted to make a character that eventually becomes the PrC in question, however I am stuck trying to figure out a good class and/or archetype to use as the base or if I just want to scrap the PrC entirely and make some sort of extremely snobby oracle, sorcerer, or wizard (although I am not sure how an oracle would fair since they think themselves secular) or possibly just a Noble Scion that makes everyone do things for him so that he doesn't have to touch people and so that he gets even more wealth than normal. Any suggestions oh mighty advice board?
The reason I have been thinking about this guy is because I have an inquisitor in a Hell's Vengeance campaign that apes the prophecies when he is in the company of others, although most people that know about it would know he is full of s%$! and a total non-believer (although he is still a resident of Druma). Still a fantastic merchant, at least.
So I've been looking at an old monk which, as I learned a while ago, I had incorrectly created. Now I am relooking at him as a MoMS Unchained Monk and I am a bit confused about the wording of the Bonus Feats ability. Does it allow me to get the Elemental Fist feat as a bonus feat if I qualify for it or does it allow for me to get a style feat that requires it only if I already have the feat? I think it is the former, however I'd love to hear some feedback.
So I have seen some old threads that suggest that one can take the Horse Lord feat as a Huntmaster Cavalier. My question is is it legal to do so? Can you actually combine the two? If so I have an idea for a Noble Scion character...
Animal Trainer:
At 4th level, a huntmaster's expert trainer ability applies to birds and dogs rather than mounts.
This ability modifies the expert trainer ability.
Horse Master:
Prerequisite: Expert trainer class feature, Ride 6 ranks.
Benefit: Use your character level to determine your effective druid level for determining the powers and abilities of your mount.
Normal: You use your cavalier level to determine your effective druid level for determining the powers and abilities of your mount.
So for some reason I have this idea for a paladin that might be replacing my unchained barbarian and it is a Minkai Paladin of Shizuru. Using Military Training I can get proficiency in the katana and the naginata in order to make myself feel more like a samurai. I'm thinking of making him a Legate/ Tempered Champion, but I would love to hear some suggestions on how to make him feel more like a samurai (cause I kind of like to go all out when roleplaying). I think for my code I will model it after Bushido, possibly with a few adjustments to make it more like a paladin.
So what I am asking is what can I do to make Shirota more like a samurai while still being a paladin of Shizuru.
So I've been at it again making a million different characters for Pathfinder and I realized that I hadn't made a somewhat silly character in a couple of weeks (an intentionally silly one, that is). That is where this character comes in, this married man with his unfortunate wife. She's not sick or dying, she's just been turned into my character's familiar by a rather powerful, disgruntled rival witch from Irrisen and my character is desperately trying to find a way to get her back to her old self before she figures out a way and bites his head off.
The question is what class should I play for this unlucky bastard and his nagging wife who's been turned into a raven? Any class will do as long as I can get a raven familiar at level 1. Frankly I am not too picky with the familiar type as long as I can get them to speak at level 1 and nag him.
So while looking through the various prestige classes in order to find a possible replacement should my TN Inquisitor (Relic Hunter/ Reaper of Secrets) of Norgorber fall in a Hell's Vengeance campaign I am in I started looking at the Sentinel PrC. It looked quite interesting an angle for a religious martial that wasn't just an antipaladin or paladin. While looking through some of the gods that had Sentinel boons I noticed that Urgathoa had some pretty interesting ones for the fighter, her second boon advancing weapon training with heavy blades by one (if you had heavy blades weapon trained) while her third increased bravery by one and modified it to also effect all saves against undead (quite handy for some games, not sure about Hell's Vengeance but the advancement is still decent for Armed Bravery). What I am asking is how should I roleplay an individual that is supposed to be a champion of Urgathoa while being TN?
To clarify I had a rough backstory in which he was essentially an unwilling champion sworn to her service because she "saved" him from a terrible illness when no one else did (at least that is what he thinks). I have him as a blacksmith that grew up in a temple of Nethys but abandoned his station after everyone realized he had very little magical talent. Thought about having him live in Geb and making the fact that he was a servant of Nethys in the temple (sort of like an acolyte) and later a rather competent blacksmith the reason he wasn't turned into an undead creature. As it is after surviving his life-threatening disease he found himself rather gaunt (yet retaining his 17 Str score, assuming 20 point buy) and has a rather large appetite for someone his size.
I do plan for him to have Eldritch Heritage (using Focused Study to give him a boost to religion to show his brief religious training coupled with the Child of the Temple faith trait) in order to get an Emissary Familiar (if I am allowed to make it an archetype, that is) as a sort of precurser to him becoming a Sentinel (and Urgathoa finding him to be an amusing servant).
So I have recently made a handful of skinwalker characters because I really like the flavor of them when combined with nature oriented classes and I realized that I was not quite sure how their Shape Change ability interacts with a couple of different effects. My question is what happens when a skinwalker with Shape Change active uses a polymorph spell like Aspect of the Wolf, uses something like Wild Shape (if there is something slightly different between it and Aspect of the Wolf), or uses an ability like the Shapeshifter Ranger's Shifter's Blessing ability.
Aspect of the Wolf:
School transmutation (polymorph)
When you cast this spell, you take on an aspect of a wolf, including some of its physical characteristics. You become more rugged, your ears become elongated, and you sprout sharp fangs and fur.
You gain a +4 enhancement bonus to Strength and Dexterity, the scent ability, a +2 enhancement bonus on trip attacks, and can make a trip combat maneuver as a swift action. This trip attack does not provoke attacks of opportunity.
Wild Shape:
At 4th level, a druid gains the ability to turn herself into any small or Medium animal and back again once per day. Her options for new forms include all creatures with the animal type. This ability functions like the beast shape I spell, except as noted here. The effect lasts for 1 hour per druid level, or until she changes back. Changing form (to animal or back) is a standard action and doesn't provoke an attack of opportunity. The form chosen must be that of an animal the druid is familiar with.
Shifter's Blessing:
At 3rd level, the shapeshifter can take on the aspects of a wild creature once per day as a swift action. He can remain in this form for a number of rounds equal to his Ranger level + his Wisdom modifier. While in one of his shifter’s blessing forms, the Ranger gains the shapeshifter subtype. The shapeshifter must choose one of the following forms. Once this choice is made, it cannot be changed.
At 8th level and again every five levels thereafter, the Ranger may select an additional form for his shifter’s blessing and may use this ability one additional time per day. This is not a polymorph ability; a Ranger with shifter’s blessing in one of his shifted forms can be affected by a polymorph ability and retain his bonus and Traits gained by the class feature.
I assume that due to the second part I copy+pasted from Shifter's Blessing means I could have it and Shape Change active at the same time, but it is always good to have a second opinion on such things.
So a friend and I have been making a Horizon Walker in which we use the Terrain Mastery rogue talent in order to gain as many instances of the ability as possible, however I am a tad bit confused. You see this involves two sites:
Archives of Nethys:
Terrain Mastery (Ex): A rogue with this talent gains a favored terrain as the ranger ability of the same name, though the favored terrain ability does not increase with her level as the ranger’s ability does. A rogue can take this ability multiple times, each time applying it to a new terrain, and granting all other favored terrains a +2 increase to the favored terrain bonus.
and
PFSRD:
Terrain Mastery (Ex): A rogue with this talent gains a favored terrain as the ranger ability of the same name, though the favored terrain ability does not increase with her level as the ranger’s ability does.
As you can see they are both the same version of the talent (the original, as the unchained version is similar to the PFSRD version). My question is which one is actually the correct one? Is there a correct one or is one of them a different iteration of the other? They both say they are from Ultimate Combat.
So I was recently invited to a WotR game and, because of the five people playing two are magi (one melee and Eldritch Archer), a paladin, and one other (I think he might be going Ranger or Warpriest) I decided I should try out a full-caster to help round out the group. Thus I hit upon the idea of trying out the arcanist since I already have a wizard in a Carrion Crown game. Then I decided I wanted him to follow a god, or in this case goddess, that isn't normally followed near Mendev. Out of this came my Ekujae Elf who is a Collegiate Initiate Arcanist who follows Alseta.
My first question is should I go with the PrC known as the Collegiate Arcanist (or as the Magaambyan Arcanist on the Archives of Nethys) or should I stay as the Initiate archetype? Frankly I am having one hell of a time deciding and would love some input.
My second question is is there anything advantageous about going as a Hierophant over an Archmage as an arcane caster? This partially has to do with the fact that I really like the Touched By Divinity campaign trait and it's improved version would be really amusing for someone with a lot of spells from the cleric and druid spell lists and that I am not a huge fan of the Riftwarden Orphan trait as it does not mesh well with my guy's backstory (that being that he is from Nantambu).
So while looking at some things for an old build of mine involving six levels of fighter I noticed these two items: Band of the Stalwart Warrior and Sash of the War Champion . My question is if I had both of them and I had six levels in fighter would that make me count as if I were a level fourteen fighter for my bravery feature or would one of them be nullified and leave me with just being level ten in bravery? What I am asking is would these stack for the purposes of bravery?
So sometimes I like to create characters made specifically for different APs or scenarios (such as a Wave Rider Cavalier in an aquatic campaign) when I stumbled upon the page of Sarkoris while looking for some inspiration for a character for Skull and Shackles. After looking at Sarkoris I decided to go and look at what I could find in the search of the Archives of Nethys and I stumbled upon this.
This got me thinking about a possible Wrath of the Righteous character based on summoning, however I know very little about that campaign besides the sheer length of it (if memory serves it goes through all 10 mythic tiers) and the fact that you are fighting demons in the Worldwound a lot and possibly the Abyss (something I am really in to). My question is summoning a viable thing when one goes to mythic status (since I know very little about mythic anything since I have yet to even reach level 9 in any of the APs I am a part of) and what would be a good class to play as a CG Human (I am flexible with the race as long as I can somehow link his ancestors to Sarkoris) that can be handy with Summon Monster or Planar Ally (not too picky which, I like the idea of both of them) that worships Pulura?
As the name of this thread suggests I am kinda curious what would happen to a Dragon Disciple that took the Outer Dragon Blood (I will put the link to the trait below) and decides to use Form of the Dragon 1 and 2. Would some home brewing be required for the additional effects you get since you have to change into the dragon-type specified in your bloodline (which could be potentially an outer dragon)?
http://archivesofnethys.com/TraitDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Outer%20Dragon%20Blo od
I have a question regarding the feat known as Augment Calling and that is can I use it on a Sacred Servant's spell-like ability of Planar Ally or is that a no go (not quite familiar with the whole spell-like vs. spell situation when it comes to the rule).
For those that want to see Augment Calling, I will put it below.
Spoiler:
Prerequisites: Spell Focus (conjuration); ability to cast lesser planar ally, lesser planar binding, or a higher-level version of these spells.
Benefit: Choose a subtype of outsider, such as angel or elemental. When using the planar ally or planar binding spells, you can call 2 additional Hit Dice of outsiders with the chosen subtype. You also gain an additional benefit depending on what spell you are casting.
When you call an outsider of the chosen subtype with planar ally spells, you reduce the price it demands for service by 25%, to a minimum of 1,000 gp.
When you bind an outsider of the chosen subtype with planar binding spells and request a service of the outsider, you gain a +2 bonus on Charisma checks to do so.
Special: You can gain this feat multiple times. Its effects do not stack. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a different subtype of outsider.
So I've been looking at creating a summoner druid (I know, not optimal but certainly amusing with Versatile Summon Nature's Ally) when I noticed the wonderful Planar Parity ability of the Envoy of Balance:
Planar Parity: Protection from chaos/evil/good/law and similar effects no longer prevent bodily contact from creatures summoned by the envoy of balance. Neutral creatures summoned by the envoy of balance also gain the counterpoised simple creature template.
My question is does this mean all neutral creatures or just true neutral? Because if it can affect all neutrals than by god the Toshigami has become even scarier.
I have a question regarding the world of Golarion and science, and that is what level of technology is the planet at large at? I'm asking this because someone in a group I am playing in is apparently a physicist ... with 8 Int. Is Golarion at essentially post-renaissance or at some point right before it?
So I'm planning on playing a Relic Hunter Inquisitor in a Hell's Vengeance campaign and I am not quite sure how the spell selection works for this archetype. Bellow is the ability in question.
Spoiler:
A relic hunter casts divine spells drawn from the inquisitor spell list, but her chosen relic schools (see Relics below) limit her to schools she knows, similar in function to an occultist’s implements. Any spell or orison gained by the relic hunter has a relic component (see Relics below), and is not considered to be on the relic hunter’s spell list until she selects its school though the relics alternate class feature. Once she chooses a school, all spells and orisons of that school are considered to be on the relic hunter’s class spell list, allowing her to use spell trigger and spell completion magic items of those spells. A relic hunter’s spells per day, daily spell allotment, Difficulty Class, and minimum Wisdom score requirements remain unchanged from the inquisitor’s normal spellcasting class feature. This ability alters the inquisitor’s spellcasting.
So if I were to choose the Abjuration and Transmutation implements would I only have access to those two school (but have access to all spells within those school) or does the ability apply to bonus spells only (like how the occultist's additional spells work)?
At 5th level, the cavern sniper chooses the bow or crossbow weapon group and gains a +2 bonus on attack rolls and damage rolls. This bonus increases by +1 for every four levels beyond 5th.
This ability replaces weapon training 1, 3, and 4.
So since I have to choose a weapon group can I still conceivably gain Advanced Weapon Training abilities through the Advanced Weapon Training feat? It's been nagging me for a bit. My gut says no, but I want to get some other opinions before I completely dismiss it.
So I've been making characters again (a big surprise, I know) and have come to an interesting quandary: could a monk be a part of the Green Faith? I assume one can, but I have no idea how I would roleplay that sort of thing. Another question I have run into is: what are the thoughts of the followers of the Green Faith on dragons?
Mechanically he is a Qinggong/ MoMS using various animal styles (Dragon and Tiger) in order to make himself the perfect predator (by copying the abilities of powerful and dangerous animals). I have him as a human who studied in Anuli with the House of Green Mothers Pupil trait and the Familiar Bond and Improved Version (he is a human, so he gets an extra feat) in order for him to also have a little animal familiar (I'm thinking a cat).
So I am working on a druid who utilizes the Aspect of the Wolf spell to help him trip everything in sight as a Nature Fang and I remembered the Bracers of Falcon's Aim (perhaps making a weird switch-hitting druid of all things). May I assume these two spells cannot exist at the same time? What exactly would happen if I wore the bracers and all of a sudden cast Aspect of the Wolf or Bear on myself? Would the aspect spell be rendered null-and-void or would the Bracers of Falcon's Aim temporarily stop giving me Aspect of the Falcon?
So I'm bored, I'm studying for finals week, and I have another idea for a character whom I would love some help with and to make sure I have some clarification with my build. Niklas Frostborn is my latest attempt at a kind of blaster monk, a human monk that uses a combination of the MoMS style feats (Dragon Style, Marid Style), Elemental Fist, and ki powers in order bring icy death to all of those that stand in his way. And yes, ice damage is the key here as he is an Ulfen male who seeks to harness the power of winter through means other than the hated magiks of the Winter Witches.
To start with I plan to get the human's ki pool increase every level to increase his ki pool as much as possible. Next I go MoMS and Qinggong so I can grab Dragon Style at level 1, Dragon Ferocity at level 2 (I am still unsure if you can grab the feats in the style path without needing the prereqs as a MoMS), Elemental Fist at level 3 (using Dragon Ferocity to gnab it without the prereqs), Marid Style at level 6, Dragon Breath at level 10, and Cold Ice Strike at level 14.
At some point I also plan on getting two Rings of Ki Mastery in order to get my ki expenditure down so that Cold Ice Strike only costs 1 ki use per activation. Is there anything I have done wrong or am missing with what I have so far?
While I was creating a witch character I noticed an odd little archetype called the Synergist and it's strange ability Symbiosis. It says the familiar melds into your body but is still able to share it's feelings empathically. The question is, do you get Alertness while your familiar is melded with you or not? Can your familiar experience the outside world and therefor have the ability to make certain kinds of rolls, such as perception rolls?
So for some reason I've gotten it into my head that I want to create an Eldritch Knight build, if possible, using a Half-elf witch to create a sort of battle medic type character. My thoughts so far for his backstory is that he came from a very rural area where the priest of the town died suddenly years ago and his role quickly got filled by a witch who worshiped Pharasma or Dalenydra (not quite sure which, yet). He was abandoned as an infant on this witch's doorstep one day by his human mother who was too poor and busy to be able to take care of him and as such he was raised by this witch who was essentially the town priest and the town doctor rolled up into one. The problem is that I have never played as a Witch before and am not quite sure what feats to take and what archetypes to utilize, if any. Any help would be appreciated, this build is one I've been thinking about for a long time and can never really decide how I want to do it.
So I might be playing a Shoanti Shaman for a RotR AP and I have a question involving the Possessed Shaman's Shared Skill ability and the Spirit Animal familiar. Does my familiar also get ranks in the two skills I designate for Shared Skill? I'm using them on Intimidate and Diplomacy so I really don't care if my familiar gets it, but I would love some clarification.
So today is yet another day of boredom for me and I decided to go back to a build I've thought on before but never really looked closely at it. As a player I tend to favor gishes and other casters that can potentially pull their weight in the thick of a melee, but everyone once-in-a-while something from one of the less magical classes catches my eye, in this case the Cavern Sniper fighter archetype and the Half-Drow Paragon feat. What I want to know is can I create an effective Cavern Sniper that is also a Half-elf or should I just save some time and effort and just create a normal drow version?
So me and a friend were ironing out his Oath of Vengeance paladin into Hellknight Commander build for an upcoming game when one of us mentioned (I think it was me but I can't really remember, it was pretty late at night) that there really was nothing stopping a druid going into the Hellknight Signifer/ we thought about it a bit and came up with an Order of the Pike armiger really bent on destroying anything unnatural or corrupted by unnatural forces. I'm really curious to see how others might justify this combination (and maybe have others poke holes in our reasoning so that I might better make and roleplay this strange character, if possible).
How, exactly, does the favored human alternate racial bonuses interact with the Greater Banner ability. Does it increase the bonus gained (so at level 20 could I potentially have a bonus of +7 from the ability)?
So I have one simple question, are there gnomes that are also nobles? I have this concept for a Rage Prophet that involves a gnome with the Noble Scion feat with the War bonus to make my charisma feed into my initiative (I'm a Lore Oracle first with the Sidestep Secret mystery and eventually the Lore Keeper mystery so I want to have a lot of Charisma to balance my whopping 10 DEX). I really like the concept of a gnome noble as well and find it to be an interesting angle for a gnome (especially being a character that wants to learn instead of fight, but becomes forced to during the course of the campaign he becomes apart of).
So I have a question regarding VMCs and certain PrCs like the Rage Prophet. More specifically how exactly would the Rage Prophet interact with a character who is an Oracle VMC when it comes to your effect levels in Oracle?
So ... is there something I am missing? What exactly is the advantage of the relic master archetype now that we have advanced weapon training for the fighter (especially considering they came out in the same book)?
Well ... the title is a bit disingenuous, at least the last bit. You see in my infinite boredom (and procrastination) I was poking around with various races until I realized I don't have a lot of Halflings, and so (like my Skyseeker Dwarf and Lantern Bearer Elf) I wanted to make a Halfling that kind of played up to the whole Halfling rock chucker idea. So what do you all recommend for a Halfling who wants to use a Halfling Sling Staff when it comes to classes (assuming I grab all three of the Slipslinger Style feats)?
So recently I've been tinkering with the idea of a dwarf whose all about dwarven history and restoring his species to what they once were. When I found the Skyseeker (or the Sun Seeker if you are using the PFSRD) I knew that that is what my character would be, a dwarf who seeks to find the lost Sky Citadels and eventually reclaim Koldukar and Jormurdun from the hated orcs and duergar. Now, of course, needing to have the orc, goblin, or giant favored enemy class feature means I must take at least a couple of levels in Ranger (unless someone else know a class or archetype that gives favored enemy to those guys and is appropriate for a dwarf). Now from what I've seen from a handful of other threads that if I want to go into the class as soon as possible I could do a Druid/ Ranger hybrid or Cleric/ Ranger hybrid. What do you all recommend for a proper dwarf?
So I recently joined a game that will be doing the Way of the Wicked campaign. Fairly normal, the stipulations are that certain classes are banned (Gunslinger, Summoner, Samurai, and all hybrid classes) and that we are going on a 25 point buy system. What I need is some advice on whether or not I can roleplay as a follower of Achaekek (preferably as a Divine Tracker Ranger) and still do the whole topple the government thing. A friend and I assume that since the first king of House Darius slew the old king in personal combat that it is sort of like a military coup (in that the leader and his ilk are fair game for the Red Mantis and other zealots of He Who Walks in Blood) however I would love to hear other's take on this situation. I would also like to hear any alternative suggestions for a follower of Achaekek who will be able to not get the party or himself killed if I can reasonably roleplay as one of them. As always thank you for your time.
So my old Saturday game has fallen through and my Sunday game has all but fallen through as well, however I might have found a game to replace said games. You see a companion of mine from my Friday game GMs sometimes and he expressed interest in GMing a campaign of Carrion Crown (a very deadly AP as you all know) with a small twist, everyone would have to play as Occult Adventures classes. Nice thing we get first pick and first call for the game if and when he does decide to start it. In preparation I've been looking at the classes and am quite interested in playing as a Halfling Medium (which is where the s*&!ty joke of a title comes from). Now as a really deadly AP I feel that if I make this character I should optimize a bit more than usual if I want to see this guy through. That being said, I've been eyeing (no pun intended) the Nexian Channeler archetype which replaces the Archmage spirit with the Spirit of Nex as well as replace "haunt channeler, location channel, connection channel, propitiation, ask the spirits, astral journey, trance of three, spacious soul, and astral beacon."
My question is, has anyone here played a Nexian Channeler and if so how did they like it? Would it be strong enough to possibly survive this campaign? How good is the Third Eye ability? One thing I should note is that he intends to change the AP slightly so more psychic based enemies show up than normal (ousting some of the non-psychics in the process).
So after a week I've got a new game to supplant my old Saturday game (fell through, you know how it goes) and this one's a bit of an odd one. First of all my group is starting at level 8, which is higher than I've ever been before. Since my GM knew I had so many character he gave the other guys first pick of classes assuming I would have a character for every occasion. Problem is most of my character are a bit more martial focused or are meant for specific APs (when they are casters) and of the four other guys we have an Unchained Monk, a Brawler, and a Samurai (no I don't know exactly what they are doing) while the last guy is undecided. This means I need to pick up the slack in the casting department in this group lest we become a group of beatsticks. The other problem is that I know this GM and he has a habit of getting the casters into the frying pan if the group isn't careful.
This is where my character comes, a human cleric of Damerrich who joined the Order of the Torrent years ago. Once based in Kintargo, this order was known for not having any evil members among it's ranks (please note that this is in fact an actual order in Cheliax and not some made up group) as well as an Aquatic motif. This guy is a bit of a career Hell Knight, as his father and his father's father were both Hell Knight's as well (although of a different order than the one he is a part of). Problem is that this order has been scattered to the wind and currently have been declared Outlaws. This guy has fled Cheliax in hopes of not only surviving but possibly recreating and rallying his order.
As for the reason this guy is a Hell Knight, its more for flavor and for being able to use heavy armor to protect myself from my GMs attempts to kill me (I like to antagonize him outside of games, so he might decide that my guy looks like a delicious target).
So what I would like is some advice on how I should role-play as a LG Hell Knight and what kind of equipment I should nab for myself. As I said I'm not all that familiar with equipment since my two other characters I have are both level 3.
So once again I am bored (and fighting some writer's block for some things I'm trying to write) and I've made yet another character, this one a Dhampir Wizard like my Zadoc Dayborn (the last Wizard I brought here), named Belor Brightwalker. Unlike Zadoc who specialized in Necromancy and Summoning this guy focuses more on Transmutation and Necromancy (and trying to find a way to bring back his loved one). Yep, this guy is a Spirit Binder and he's bound the soul of one of the few people he has ever cared about into the body of a small animal. Problem is I'm not sure what familiar to go with. You see I want to use said Familiar as a focus for Polymorph spells (as well as myself) and am trying to find a familiar with decent stats that would fit the bill. I think I'm going Vetala-Born so maybe something that is native to Vudra?
As it is this guy is just another concept character and has no campaign and no other party-members to look to. Once again thank you for your time.
Hello everyone, once again (for the umpteenth time) I have come to the forums to ask for some advice on what must be my twentieth character in two months. Unlike my other characters, however, this guy might be joining a campaign in the next month or so. You see I've become sort of the backup guy for a Skulls and Shackles AP in case any of his players drop out (so if someone leaves I'll be their replacement most likely) and so I'm trying to make a character whose suitable for a Skull and Shackles campaign. Now after some thinking I'm rather tempted to go Grippli purely because it amuses me (although I've also thought of going as a Shigenjo Tengu Oracle). Problem is I'm not all that familiar with the Gripplis and what kind of class a wandering Grippli would be.
As it stand they have just started and have a Half-Elf Swashbuckler Inspired Blade/ Corsair, one Human Gunslingers (a Bolt Ace), a Sorcerer of some sort, a Barbarian, and a Slayer.
So with that in mind, what would be a good class for a wandering Grippli whose found himself in the company of pirates (if they end up never needing me this guy will be used for when I find a Skulls and Shackles AP)?
Hello everyone, once again I beseech all of thee to aid me in refining a character. This once has stumped me for a couple of days now, and I'd love for some help. What I'm trying to do is create a battle oracle with the right weapon and skills for every occasion and while I've picked the perfect archetype for it (Warsighted) and mystery (Ancestor for the Ancestral Weapon revelation at level 3 so I have some flexible feats and a flexible weapon) I'm not sure what race I should pick and where I should be from. I'm also wondering if the weapon familiarity racial traits would technically allow me to use Ancestral Weapon to summon an Elven Curve Blade if I was an Elf or a Half-elf with said trait. They are treated as martial weapons for said races so I assume I would be able to, but I would love to hear the opinions of others. Oh, and I'm also trying to figure out my stat array. I can't decide if I want strength to be my most important or dexterity (if the Elven Curve Blade is a go I'll take dex into greater consideration). As it stands I don't have a backstory for this guy beyond him being from a long line of warriors and one day during a skirmish with some raiders he realized he couldn't unterstand anyone during the battle (so he has the Tongues Curse, representing his ancestors' wide variety of languages known) and that he suddenly could use some magic.
Hello to everyone in the Paizo Advice forum, once again I am back to ask with some advice for what must be my twenty-fifth character I have created in two months (I swear I don't have a problem). This one's a monk and boy what an odd collection of archetypes I have been able to stack on top of one another without them conflicting. This guy's a (bear with me) Sensei, Qinggong, Monk of the Lotus, Mystic Monk whom is currently called Azerbarjani (yes, kind of like the country Azerbaijan). At the moment he's a human, although that may change at a later date, and I plan for him to become an Evangalist of Irori at level 6 (Irori's obediance being relatively easy to do for a monk and giving me a +4 to knowldedge checks on top of the +2 I get while I have at least 1 ki point in my pool from Ki Mystic). So what I need advice for is a couple of things, which I will be right below.
First, what stats should I focus on exactly for this Wisdom centric character besides Wisdom (besides Wisdom which will be my highest priority) and what stats should I leave by the wayside (if not dump)?
Second, what traits and feats would aid in a grappler style build (besides Improved and Greater Grapple) for someone who uses Wisdom for his CMB (Insightful Strike at level 2 will allow me to use my Wisdom for attack rolls and CMB checks)?
Third, how should I roleplay a character in which two of his archetypes basically say he has an aversion to violence (Ki Mystics not liking it, while Monks of the Lotus's being basically pacifists) while still doing things like grappling and punching? Should I go for the Batman approach and just do all nonlethal to humanoids and others that can be redeemed and/or reasoned with and still destroy evil outsiders like demons without hesitation? Note that I don't have a backstory for this guy mostly due to not being sure how to start one for someone like this.
Edit: Fourth, how does one roleplay an Evangelist of Irori? Be very passionate about showing people the advantages to seeking perfection? Show them there's a better way than whatever your doing? I'm asking because I'm not sure how an Evangelist would operate considering there are plenty of other gods to choose from.
Once again thank you to everyone who has read through this and who has replied to my requests for advice (starting to memorize some of your names, which is a feat for someone like me who has a hell of a time remembering names).
So once again I've got a build that has popped into my head while I was bored (all hail winter break) and like the others I'm writing him down so that I don't forget about him and so he doesn't bug me too much. This is yet another Ranger character (I like gishes and martial classes with access to spells, it seems) who once again has the Divine Tracker archetype replacing Hunter's Bond with two Warpriest Blessings. He's also a Demonslayer, which means he's really good at fighting evil outsider in general, but even better at fighting and finding the abyssal creatures known as demons. I'm also thinking of gnabbing Infiltrator, but that isn't set in stone.
I do have a cursory idea where I want my ranger to be from, and that is from Halgrim in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings (so an Ulfen). I would love to be a lesser known brother of Runewolf the Unbeliever, the leader of the Graycloaks, whose sought a life of adventure in order to make a name for myself and not be compared to my brother or my cousin (White Estrid, the king of Halgrim), but that part, like most of this character, is kind of up in the air.
So here's what I need help with, I need to find a god that utterly hates the demons and would be an appropriate god for someone like me to follow (if push come to shove I might just pick Gorum and say my characters wants to fight demons to prove how strong he is). Any gods both major or minor who hate 'em with a passion would be appreciated.
So I've been brushing up on the Magus since I like gish characters and while browsing some forums I've noticed a couple of people talk about multiclassing as a Magus with the Cleric and continuing on as a Mystic Theurge. What I would love to know is why this sort of combination? Is there something I'm missing that makes this a great combination to play as assuming you get to higher levels? I admit it would be interesting to play as a gish character that combines some divine spells with arcane, but I'm not sure about how one could best create this strange beast.
Oh mighty Paizo Advice Forum, once again I beseech thee in aiding me create another one of my characters. This one's a Herald of Apsu, but not your average herald no, this herald is a Silver Kobold that follows the mighty Waybringer. The problem I am having is how exactly he is the herald, as I can't seem to decide between making him a cleric of the Maker of All who seeks to convert other kobolds and scaly-creatures to his god or a Dragon Herald who acts as a voice of The Exiled Wyrm. Anyone got any suggestions for this Lawful Good Kobold?
Edit: Okay, got some backstory for him although I am not certain how plausible this story might be. Any critiques with constructive criticism would also be nice. Also note that this is a really rough draft of his backstory plus I'm not finished with it, still typing it as we speak.
The being that would become known as Kuzila was once a simple white kobold of the powerful Icerender clan who lived with his clansmen in the Tusk Mountains in northern Avistan. As a white kobold he would go with his brothers on raids to the surface to pillage merchant caravans to give to Lydek the White, a powerful white dragon. It was on one fateful day that he was privileged with being one of the kobolds to take some of their ill-gotten gains to Lydek, where he caught a glimpse of the fearsome mistress of winter. This glimpse of majesty and power reaffirmed his belief in the superiority of dragons and lead him to become even more religious than most of his brothers. It was on another raid that something happened, the caravan they attacked had been a trap and before he realized it many of his brothers and sisters were cut down. Fleeing from the unexpected resistance, he found himself being pursued by some of his foes. Unable to go into the tunnels (some of his ambushers were making short work of anyone that tried to go that way) he fled deep into the mountains on the surface where he eventually fell into a large cavern. Unable to climb back up (partially due to exhaustion and partially due to slippery surfaces) he explored the unfamiliar cave until he found a strange, glowing doorway. Seeing no other way out and being rather curious (normally a fatal trait in a kobold) he entered the doorway and found himself on a strange island in front of a massive cathedral. Confused and amazed by this strange place, he forged ahead into this otherworldly building where he came face to face with none other than Apsu, the Waybringer, who was currently in the middle of an audience with a silver great wyrm. Annoyed by the interruption but curious about how a kobold had found it's way into his home Apsu demanded the kobold's name.
So I've got a question about classes with archetypes and whatnot that give animal companions. How exactly do they interact with archetypes like the Pack Lord and the Beastmaster when it comes their companion(s). Say I've got a Sylvan Sorcerer: 5 / Pack Lord: 1. Would that not change my companions at all as if I had just gotten straight sorcerer, or would I technically be able to gain a second companions that purely scaled off of the Pack Lord class?
