Hm, that is what I thought it would be. Ah well, didn't hurt to ask on the forums. Will have to convince/ ask if I can use Guided on a rapier.

So I've been hankering to make an outlandish monk build because I haven't really made a truly odd monk in quite some time. Enter a trait for Idyllkin Aasimar known as the Enlightened Warrior, it allows me to have a NG or TN monk. With this in mind I made a Sensei/ Qinggong/ Drunken Master that at level 6 becomes an Evangelist of his god, Cayden Cailean. Now Evangelist gives me proficiency with rapiers, however Insightful Strike only says I can use Wisdom to hit with unarmed strikes and monk weapons.

Does the language of Ki Intensifying mean I can apply Insightful Strike to my rapier or do I have to ask my GM (don't have a game for this guy yet) if I can get the Guided enchantment? I know it is not a monk weapon and that I wouldn't be able to use certain abilities with it, but the Sensei does not have Flurry of Blows so it is not a huge loss.

Since this thread is already here I might as well ask another question involving a faux-channel ability. The Purifer oracle archetype gives you a essentially a channel ability to hurt evil outsiders. My question is would it progress if I went into the Holy Vindicator (taking the Life Mystery to make sure I have all the prereqs) or would it cease to progress after I went into the PrC?

Marluxia? Never heard of it. But yes as a half-elf I have taken Ancestral Arms so I have proficiency in bastard swords.

Ah, didn't see that part. Good to know that I can use it (lord knows that they have created archetypes before that have abilities they can't actually use).

Actually, I think I'll add a question to this since I am already on the subject of my death druid. How exactly does Bonded Manifestation work for the Death Druid archetype when, as far as I know, they do not get the Shared Consciousness class ability of the spiritualist?

Frankly I just want to know and be done with it, either so I can rearrange her stats or go forward with the idea for this half-elf that uses a bastard sword, as some depictions of death have Grim with a sword of some kind instead of a scythe (the Discworld series had Grim having both a scythe for the common people and a sword used only on royalty, if I remember correctly).

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

So I've been looking at the Possessed Hand feat for a druid idea involving the Death Druid and I was wondering whether or not I can use a one-handed weapon in two-hands and still get my insight bonus to hit and damage. My friend and I think you can, but it never hurts to check with the forums.

Thinking about it wouldn't all of them fit the bill of great protectors and loyal companions? They all are supposed to be paragons of goodness after all, although I must admit that Bellicosus' argumentative nature would certainly fit more an Archon or Azata than the enlightened Agathions. Not that Agathions wouldn't get into arguments with their charges, I just think most of them would have a far cooler head when it came to arguing with others.

Ah, good to know. I must admit it would be amusing though to be able to use Rebuke Undead on Evil Outsiders, but oh well.

Actually I think it is just straight up banned in PFS. Not quite sure why, considering it's not exactly even at the same "level" as a normal summoner since I can't spam SM anymore. Hell, it isn't even in the same league as the Synthesist when it comes to power. Although I can use Channel five times per day at level 1, so...

And yeah I know it alters the eidolon, but I am sure a reasonable GM would allow me to use a celestial to fulfill this requirement. Especially since it is hard enough trying to get a GM to let one play as an original summoner.

So I've been making quite a few characters as I break out of some sort of writers block but I need some advice for a character I've made. Well ... her eidolon to be exact, as dear, sweet Rana is an unchained summoner.

You see Rana Stonebridge is an Unchained Spirit Summoner whose lovely spirit just happens to be a Life Spirit. This gives her the ability to Channel Energy and will later help boost her healing capacity, as Rana is a healer of Dalenydra (an Empyreal Lord of pacifistic healers and battle medics) and is therefor a bit of a conscientious objector when it comes to things like battle. Not that she won't do things like heal or buff in battle, just that she would never strike the first blow against a creature. This is where Bellicosus comes in.

You see where Rana is a pacifist Bellicosus is much more of the crusading mindset which, on many occasions, has lead to some massive arguments between him and his charge. The question is what type of goodly eidolon do you all think this guy would be? I originally went for Agathion and styled him off an Avoral Agathion, but now I am not so sure as he could very well be an Angel, Archon, or Azata what with his somewhat short temper and love of battling evil. The real problem comes from the fact that not only am I unsure of his subtype, but also of what kind of celestial would be sent to Rana in order to hopefully stem his ... lust for battle. As always any help is much appreciated.

So a friend and I were just talking about a character idea I had for a Life Spirit shaman when I noticed Spirit Warden and thought to myself, "Well, my guy does hate spirits quite a bit due to being LG and seeing undead as being an affront to the cycle of reincarnation" and decided to look at it further. And that is when I noticed Rebuke Undead, which works like Channel Positive Energy but only damages undead. My question is how does Rebuke Undead work with feats like Alignment Channel and Extra Channel (as in can I use Alignment Channel with Rebuke Undead and does Extra Channel affect either channel or both)?

Ah, good to know.

On the AoN by the spirit names the PFS symbol (or whatever it is) it says you can have only one at a time, however no such symbol with the pop-up text exists over the Nex spirit which is why I am slightly confused.

So I'm rebuilding an old character concept o' mine and I came across the fact that a medium can only have one legendary spirit at a time, my question is does that include the Nex spirit or is it exempt due to the fact that it replaces wholesale the archmage spirit (and therefor becomes the new archmage spirit)? I'm asking because I have an idea for a character that eventually has Abrogail Thrune 1 as a legendary spirit, said character being a man of the Order of the Gate who believes that finding Nex's Spire and the man himself would help impose order through magic through Nex's supreme mastery of magic. Abrogail Thrune 1 being an individual my character would love nothing more than to bargain with for more magical prowess.

Good to know, as I've already made my character based on the idea that he had to use it as a light weapon. It will certainly be weird for the rest of the party considering my Living Grimoire is an inquisitor of Gorum (Divine Anthology has a precedent for Ulfen bookish worshipers of Gorum, although I must admit that I didn't know about them until I had made him an Ulfen and everything else) but at least my guy is made as support-melee so it should be fine.

Bump.

Presto revivo, I've got another question regarding subdomains. This time it's the Divine Paragon archetype. Can I have Divine Paragon's ability that replaces one set of domain abilities affect a subdomain?

Ah, didn't see that. Thanks for that. I've been contemplating a Kami Cleric of sorts, a cleric that uses the Ring of Natural Attunement(Kami) to summon Kami. Good to know I can pick up the Growth Subdomain, the Plant Domain abilities are kind of crap.

So I was looking around on the Archives of Nethys when I ran into a feat called Spontaneous Nature's Ally and one of the prerequisites is that I need the Animal or Plant domain. My question is if I took the Feather or Growth subdomain would it still count or would I be shit out of luck?

So I saw earlier today that the Holy Book used by the Living Grimoire inquisitor archetype is counted as a simple weapon (by the Horror Adventures FAQ) but my question is which kind of simple weapon? I think it is supposed to be a light weapon due to the fact that it references the light mace, however I am not sure and haven't seen anything about it (or have not found any threads regarding this). Any confirmation or speculation would be much appreciated.

So I assume the AoN version is an older or unerrated version?

I hate to necro an old thread like this but considering it already exists I might as well use it since this involves what is in the title. How do Steadfast Personality and Charmed Life interact with one another now that Steadfast Personality gives you Cha to Will instead of an insight bonus against mind-affecting?

After a busy week I have returned and I have a rather important question, what exactly would this guy's motives be to go adventuring? Does he believe being an adventurer might lead him to accumulation of enough capital in order to pursue other business or is he doing this because he is down on his luck and is desperate for a cash infusion?

Well it does still effect my CMD at this point. Not a huge thing, mind you, but it also still effects some of my skills and I don't want him to be too clumsy until he can use other means of transportation.

Lol. I love it. A smarmy little thing that does what it's told but loves to find loopholes while doing so and generally annoy me while simultaneously mollifying me at every turn and making sure it is useful enough that I can't get rid of it without unneeded hassle.

And here is my character's Mythweaver sheet. Arasmes Goldfinger.

Apparently while most are athiests they seem to allow members to be followers of other gods, although I am sure it is dissuaded. So I decided I think this guy would follow Abadar, partly to mollify the god of capitalism and his followers.

But yes I know Eye for Quality is an Abadar trait, I saw that it was on the AoN.

I use something called Mottokrosh's Eldritch Online Character Sheet. I just remember it as charactersheet.co.uk/pathfinder. I think I have a Mythweaver's account that I could transfer the stuff I have right now.

I think it might be poignant to post what I have so far for my build. What would be the best format to post it in? I don't normally post my builds and am not sure what is the format most people use for these forums.

I've thought about it, but frankly I do not have the room unless I give up the Seeker trait. Currently I have Seeker in order to have perception as a class skill and I have Eye for Quality in order to have appraise as one too. I have thought about taking Cosmopolitan in order to do so, but my feats at the moment are a Skill Focus in Knowledge (local) which I hope would translate well to finding contacts and the like and Noble Scion (because the Noble Scion of War is extremely handy for me since I have 10 Dex).

Plus I can make him move to people and touch them with CLW (and other spells of it's ilk) without having to touch them and it can come sprinting back on the same turn if they are close enough. I like it. A pity I don't have Intimidate as a class skill, but if I had a peacock the bonus gained from it combined with my character's 20 Cha (he has Sidestep Secret at level 1 via Lore Mystery, which is the mystery I decided to give him) would make it somewhat irrelevant. Probably would put a point or two in it, but I feel a legitimate business man wouldn't have as much use for intimidation. That's what the hired help is for.

I also plan on taking Spirit Ally at level 9, mostly because a constant Unseen Servant is fantastic flavor for this character (especially since the Str-score of this version increases with my CL up to a 12 Str score).

Do you all think I should get a familiar via Eldritch Heritage? I'm a human so I could easily take Focused Study for two extra Skill Focus feats at later levels. Also what do you all think would be a nice "exotic" familiar for him, apparently kalistocrats with familiars tend to favor the exotic because rich people.

Hm, I must admit after doing some poking around that I find that the Spirit Guide appeals to me as well. I like the idea of my character bargaining with spirits each day in order to gain their powers and access to spells I would otherwise not have (like Life Spirit). There is also the fact that most kalistocrats are atheists, but I do not know if I want to make him one. At most he would be a loose follower of Abadar, believing that making friends within the church and among his more powerful servants would help him significantly in his quest to become richer.

I saw something like that, yes. Also a social talent that involves acting as if you were following the prophecies in order to buy stuff as if you were in a larger settlement. Hell, my character in Hell's Vengeance has a brother that is that vigilante combo. Except for the fact that like my character and his other brother (they are dwarven identical triplets, can't wait till my GM brings mentions them since he said he would kind of put them into the AP somewhere as super non-essential NPCs) they all secretly worship Norgorber and represent different aspects of the cuddly god. One is assassination and murder, one is greed and secrets (my character), and one is all about poisons.

Utterly fantastic, but I might just stick with a human. Now if this guy was ever allowed the Leadership feat I would ask to make that little f~$&er my protege in a heartbeat.

I think any mystery would make more thematic sense for this character than the time I made a merfolk whose greatest curse is that he is an oracle of the Flame Mystery. Regardless, I think I got a good idea for this guy now. Now just to poke through feats and traits to help me. Although if you all have any more good ideas I am more than willing to hear 'em. At worst I might just slot one into one of the campaigns I am drafting up for whenever I start to GM.

Frankly I'd be surprised if there were more than 15.

Why? Is there some weird exploit around it?

Forgot about covetous, will have to remember that curse. How about adding the Enlightened Philosopher archetype to him?

I would love to be able to adhere to the principals of the prophecies while acting like a rich, LN bastard. That is to say probably not going monk (even though Scaled Disciple has some amusing synergy with the PrC, especially if you really want to act like a dragon) due to the whole no physical contact when possible thing. I've thought about the rogue but I am not sure how I feel about being one. Frankly I have been having a wee bit of writer's block while thinking up this character and would love to hear suggestions in the hopes of breaking this mental gridlock.

Ah, missed that little line. Welp, just means my own character will just spring for a Amulet of Mighty Fists instead (unless he uses Greater Magic Fang and permanently enchants them).

So I have been contemplating making a character that adheres to the Prophecies of Kalistrade and seem to be stuck and would love some advice or suggestions. I originally wanted to make a character that eventually becomes the PrC in question, however I am stuck trying to figure out a good class and/or archetype to use as the base or if I just want to scrap the PrC entirely and make some sort of extremely snobby oracle, sorcerer, or wizard (although I am not sure how an oracle would fair since they think themselves secular) or possibly just a Noble Scion that makes everyone do things for him so that he doesn't have to touch people and so that he gets even more wealth than normal. Any suggestions oh mighty advice board?

The reason I have been thinking about this guy is because I have an inquisitor in a Hell's Vengeance campaign that apes the prophecies when he is in the company of others, although most people that know about it would know he is full of shit and a total non-believer (although he is still a resident of Druma). Still a fantastic merchant, at least.

Now if he just wants to be a smashy dude with a major dragon theme to him there are two other big options that I know of: the draconic bloodline bloodrager (possibly with Rageshaper in order to increase the damage dice of your friend's natural attacks) or the relatively new Dragonheir Scion fighter archetype which trades away the Armor Training and a few bonus feats for natural armor, some resistances, eventual flight like the bloodline power, and free Arcane Strike that works for them even though they have no caster level. There is also the Dragonblood Chymist into Mastery Chymist, but they technically can't do that without taking the Infusion discovery (unless the GM believes that the ability gained at 3rd level counts as Feral Mutagen for the prereqs of Master Chymist). Plus there is the fact that the Advanced Mutagen that makes you more like a dragon just isn't that great and that the Dragonblood Chymist's mutagen isn't the greatest unless all you care about is strength and natural armor bonuses.

What is also good for him to know is that you can grab an Amulet of the Blooded and a Robe of Arcane Heritage to boost your sorcerer levels by a further 6. So if you were a non-sorcerer with 10 levels in Dragon Disciple your bloodline would be that of a 16th level sorcerer.

I'm going to throw my two cents in and show you a neat little feat that will let you make a non-sorcerer DD if your friend is willing to count as a human. This feat allows you to play as a spontaneous divine caster and be a Dragon Disciple. The advantage to this is that you can play as something like the Feral Hunter hunter archetype and get all of the fun goodies of the PrC while still having a breastplate, melee weapons for when all else fails, and a spell list that really helps you when using polymorph spells (let alone the fact that you get a slightly more limited version of Wild Shape). Now the only problem is race wise. Well, as long as you are alright playing a race that can count as a human for the purposes of feats you have Racial Heritage. Of course you can also use it to play as an oracle or an inquisitor, but the hunter's spell list is simply more complimentary with this sort of build. Barkskin should stack with all your other armor bonuses (including the natural armor bonuses gained through Dragon Disciple) and you can buff your natural attacks with Magic Fang and Greater Magic Fang.

Also the EH levels wouldn't stack with the increase you get from the PrC. As in you wouldn't be able to somehow have a sorcerer level of 24 at 16, assuming EH and 10 levels of DD. The Eldritch Heritage version would be it's own separate entity and wouldn't benefit from the Dragon Disciple PrC in any way. Instead you would have two pools of abilities in which some of the stuff (like the third level ability) would not stack.

Okay, just woke up. Scaled Fist is from Legacy of Dragon and is one of the better things that came from that book (the other being the drake companion and the archetypes that use it). Perfect Scholar ... I don't remember where it is from. Something very new, however.

Last time I checked there were 6 that could be used. Perfect Scholar, Monk of the Mantis, Black Asp, Sage Counselor, Scaled Fist, and Serpent-Fire Adept. Admittedly 3 of them (Counselor, Black Asp, and Adept) are kind of meh, but the other three are pretty good. Was rather confused why no one ever mentioned MoMS when it came to discussing the unchained version. Now I know why, because apparently screw the monk (I for one really enjoy the flavor of a mystical adept).

Does Paizo have a hard on for messing with the monk? I know one of the original designers despised the monk and that is why it was so terrible in the beginning, but why would the Unchained Monk be the exception to the rule? I mean I can kind of see that a lot of archetypes wouldn't fit exactly with the unchained version, but I do not see why they would have a blanket ban.

Dragon Style's Dragon Roar is also really good when combined with Marid Style, as it allows you to expend a use of Elemental Fist in order to use said feat along with the roar. What this means for the MoMS is that you can have a possible AoE Shaken and Entangle ability that also does some nice damage (if you combine the Marid Style line with the Dragon Style line). Also MotFW stacks with the new Scaled Disciple and then for added fun go Suli. You can belt out some insane elemental damage through melee with that combination. The first combo is more for doing some dubuffs and AoEs as well as damage.
