I would either go an all bard party or an all inquisitor party if you want (about) the same versatility with a divine class. You have spells, thief abilities, combat potential, all the skills you will ever need, and the ability to deal with just about any situation thrown at you. Warpriest doesn't have the same versatility at all nor does the magus. If you don't go with a class with some spellcasting ability then you are limiting yourself due to a lack of healing/blasting/battlefield control and if you go full caster, then you probably won't make it past first level except MAYBE if you go Cleric.

EDIT: All tanky or all squishy? Paladin or Barbarian.

Sera Dragonbane here, dismissing the polymorph spell I had cast. Now, I would like to inform you of my several ranks in Profession RAW Lawyer before I continue. With that being said, I ask that the defendent of the orc race answer two questions.

First: Is PFS YOUR campaign, or is it Paizo's?

Second: Can you find an example ~within Paizo's campaign, PFS~* of full fledged orcs who didn't at some point try to kill, capture, or maim you?

*I understand I assumed the answer to the first question here, but I suppose I knew the answer before asking it. There isn't a law against asking leading questions in Cheliax after all.

Furthermore, the defendent is using the entry on MONSTERS to support his claim. Now, if orcs are indeed monsters, then it should be okay to simply kill them correct? After all, an adventurer's typical job description IS to kill monsters. So either orcs are monsters and okay to kill, or the passage does not apply to them. Furthermore, even if the passage DID apply, I ask you to refer back to the two questions I asked earlier.

:3 This is bloody excellent! Congrats to everyone who made it!

I heard someone call the Dark Prince some time ago. I'M HERE NOW.

*Uses hellfire to give the best hot massage that only someone with Fire Immunity could probably survive... maybe.*

Next poster, would you kindly cool me down? It feels like a sauna here...

Pit Fiend

Yup. Kheti hadn't responded at all... the Paladin is MIA... and there seema to be a low level of energy from everyone else...

I hate to say it, but is it time to call it?

I'm actually tryimg to get a group together as a live campaign over roll20/ Google Hangouts... hopefully that doesn't fall apart too. I don't even have a fourth party member for that...

My question is this. I just so happen to have a character that I just built using.... Core only, but have played her in the normal PFS games. Does this disqualify my character from playing in the Core Campaign, even if I don't have anything outside of those three resources? It would certainly be a bummer if I had to make a new character to join the CC because I was a week too early, you know?

Whew. If you were to set up a second table, I think we all owe you at least a 'thanks'. I at least have my Paladin as PFS legal and should set up all the relevant information from Mythweavers to the profile on Paizo later today.

Heh. I was going to suggest a level 1.2 Paladin, but uh... it looks like you have enough players to fill around 3 tables.

This loose 'friendship' will also allow us to learn more about each other naturally. As time goes on, we could find more secrets to share... through honest means or possibly even snooping. This ontop of everything else that I assume might go on will make for an interesting dynamic.

I think it was planned that we both somewhat know each other -at least well enough that we could travel together- but not so much that we are the best of friends.. We could talk about which of us owns the car, but we should definitely be in the same one.

And GM, I can't seem to be able to PM you.

Midterms are finally over! Crunch is done and a revised version of my fluff should be done today. I'll br PMing you Yorrick.

I can't add much more than say "Agreed". There is a reason I would let a Lawful Evil party member at my table and not a CE or even a CN one. LE is much nicer in a group based game as Pathfinder is.

May Asmodeus praise the the Golgothans...

You people are so helpful...

The snark is strong with this one.

Anyways, as chaoseffect suggested, 9th level casters tend to be the game breakers. That being said, limiting spellcasters too far also hurts the martial characters. Barbarians and Slayers love their buff spells after all.

EDIT:

If that is the case, the best way to go about it is to go and look at each class list individually and pick out spells you think fit your description. I say this because... there are quite a few.

I'm working on my character. I ran into uh... midterms so I put this on hold.

Pit Fiend

Good, because it seems like at this rate, I might have to convert Andross into a divine GMPC...

Pit Fiend

Well Rick hasn't checked back in and neither has Kheti...

Is everyone else still interested?

I will dot this in anticipation. I'm no stranger to bards myself and I know a few powerful builds, but nothing hyper optimized.

Pit Fiend

Now onto the box. You realize that it would be easy to remove the box from the plaster. In fact with your disable device check you realize that were you to attempt to open it within the wall, it would set off a trap causing something (likely a poison dart or something similar) to shoot from the wall and pierce your hand.

Pit Fiend

Let's start with the tiles shall we? As you get a closer look at the tiles you notice that there are strange foreign letters embedded into the tiles -letters that you have never seen before-. Before your eyes, they begin to shift and change shape into the more recognizable Taldane script you are familiar with. As you look, the letters read a message of sorts:

The Message:
Go back to the tormentor or through the arch,
and the second great hall you’ll discover.
Shun green if you can, but night’s good color
is for those of great valor.
If shades of red stand for blood the wise
will not need sacrifice aught but a loop of
magical metal - you’re well along your march.
Two pits along the way will be found to lead
to a fortuitous fall, so check the wall.
These keys and those are most important of all,
and beware of trembling hands and what will maul.
If you find the false you find the true
and into the columned hall you’ll come,
and there the throne that’s key and keyed.
The iron men of visage grim do more than
meets the viewer’s eye.
You’ve left and left and found my Tomb
and now your soul will die.
The foe before you departed and rose
While the foe unseen shall be betrayed, but by whom, only the former knows.

With your amazing perception, you realize that the bolded section appears as if it were written by a different hand than the first lines.

Pit Fiend

Marcum, the mosaic on the east is simply that of cows grazing on a field. The one on the west seems to be that of a wizards workroom, however, when you look more closely you notice that the incredible detail of the paintings hid something from casual observation that now seems obvious. A pair of robed, wolf headed figures are painted on the wall, holding an elaborate bronze chest between themselves. However, the chest is no painting, but an actual box embedded within the plaster, extending only a few inches from the surface.

I should mention this. For now on a single perception check covers a ten by ten area in front of you with either one of two directions: upwards from where you normally look and downwards, so if you wish to search for traps, you should specify floor or ceiling or simply make a check for both

There are no specific magical acts you can tell from these murals nor are they depicting a specific region. The wolf headed figures, however, seem like something vaguely Osirion, however, not exactly.

And with your DD check, you figure that the winding of the path is random, BUT you notice that not everything is what it seems to be. Something seems... different about those red tiles.

This is the scene, by the way

Pit Fiend

Marcum, would you kindly put an S in the area you would like to search? I just revealed the area. The red rectangles you see represent the murals on the walls and the red path is well... the red path.

Oops. What I meant was 16 strength PLUS the +2 from the racial bonus for a total of 18.

And now this has me thinking... I will put the level 4 bonus into dex for a nice round 14. Headband of Charisma because, why not? I don't really need to worry about casting because by that time I'll have mithral medium armor (I think chain is the best but I don't have the book im front of me). So I'll be a pretty tough switch hitter, not beimg the main striker in combat but able to hold my own. When things get hairy I have quite a few nice spells...

Speaking of which, Dragonchess, I REALLY like your second idea. The natural progression is quite good and I'd be well off to take a good hit while staying alive to return the favor.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm trying to set up the first game for Friday. She'll be a pretty standard Paladin until level 2 but that's when things get interesting.

Pit Fiend

Anyone else? I want everyone to make at least one IC post to make sure you are all still here.

If that is the case, would someone like to PM me so we could work out a story together?

With careful navigation through modules and APs, and watching your XP, you can make it to level 20. I don't think you can PLAY your level 20 character, but you can make it there.

Gisher wrote:
You should definitely consider the taking the magical knack trait. It will make your spells stronger and advance arcane strike more quickly.

I was just thinking that. Well, it looks like my first level choice is done. Now I just have to play it until level 12... if I survive that long, let's see if I can't bring this to level 20. (I wonder how many Core only PCs made it to level 20 in PFS).

I forgot the web enhancement!

As for Barb I definitely want to be melee focused but I don't think that works with Paladin (Oh how I lament over this fact). Alignment restrictions and all. But the point about Power Attack and my low BAB is a valid one... what does everyone else think? Should I forgo Power Attack on account of me not being able to hit anything (and go with weapon focus: x reach weapon) or should I keep it? I'm definitely taking Arcane Strike ASAP.

EDIT: I definitely think going bard for 3 levels after my two in Pally is a choice I will make. that way I don't have to worry about skills. (12 due to my bard levels, 2 from paladin, 5 because I'm a human with the skilled trait and a possible 3 from the FCB with bard) Alas, I would have gone Half Elf or Half Orc, but the extra feat and the skilled trait was just too juicy!

Chess Pwn wrote:
Taking a 3 levels of bard or 1 of sorcerer gives you the same BAB with your character.

Derp. I don't know what table I was reading for the BAB but it obviously wasn't rhe RIGHT one. Definitely right about Bard being more attractive. That actually just might be the way to go, plus it has AMAZING charisma synergy. (Has it really been so long since I built a character that I'm getting the total BAB of a 3/4ths BAB class wrong?)

I've played a Pally before in PFS. I think that as a Paladin of Torag doing mostly Silver Crusade/Liberty's Edge missions, I can safely stick with the "Good" above "Law" ideal Paladims are supposed to have.

As for the Bard idea... that's actually not a half bad idea. I'm not going to be a primary caster anyways, so loss of spellcasting doesn't hurt (though someone else will have to zap me with my eventual wand of Enlarge Person). The thing is I also want to keep my BAB as high as possible so may not want to give up Paladin levels for it... choices, choices.

I was planning on using a reach weapon too... but am not sure about lowering Charisma. That's an overall -1 to Fort and Will for a +1 to AC and Reflex... though I suppose that's another possible AOO woth combat reflexes. Then again if I want to focus on attack with claws, Charisma is important...

Gisher wrote:
You might want to rethink Power Attack, though. I hear it's a trap.

I see this so often in the boards nowadays that I have to remind myself that it's a joke.

As for the type... I have to do reasearch and find out which is the Lawful Evil variety.

As for the spellcasting, I will try to stick with spells w/out Somatic componants and buy wands of the spells that I think are good buffs. But no blasting at all for me other than the breath weapon later.

Long story short is this: I no longer have any of the Pathfinder books I used to make any of my PFS characters... save for the Core rulebook. So until I own all the other books again, I decided to challange myself and play PFS with what I have. (Seeing as I can't legally play the other charaters now... Those other books really did spoil me)

Which led me into trying to create a Dragon Disciple. My initial thought was to make it melee focussed and... well my stats look something like this:

Lvl 1 Human Paladin
Str: 16 (+2 racial)
Dex: 13
Con: 14
Int: 7
Wis: 7
Cha: 16

Feats: Toughness and Power Attack

So my initial thought was to jump into Paladin for 4 straight levels, using my 5th level to quickly pick up a sorcerer level, and go into straight dragon disciple from then on.

I guess I was wondering if anyone saw an major problem with this build, had suggestions for later levels or had any idea as to how to make it better. I am open to any suggestions just short of "Don't do it" or "buy the other books ASAP". I purposely wosh to stick to Core on this one, especially since I wrote up the backstory.

Although I am quite interested, is this game hard set on being a single person adventure? Although I understand the pros of focusing in on a single character and developing them (like a main character out of any book) there is also something to be said of party interactions and the developing of a small group of friends - and the like.

I was just curious.

If there was one other person -perhaps a sibling or cousin- that could also be an interesting dynamic. Also curious ^_^

Should I Paladin? Str=18 Int=8
Stat: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 Dex
Stat: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 Con
Stat: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 Wis
Stat: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 Cha

EDIT: No... No I shouldn't...
rolling for stats is brutal XD Dropping out now

As a fan of such games, and a long time player of Call of Cthulhu, I would definitely be interested in this.

Pit Fiend

You don't detect any evil surprisingly enough (or at least, not in your 60 foot cone). If you clear a larger hole to peep through, you would see this:

Light from the entrance shows this tunnel is extremely long and heavily decorated in a riot of bright colors and patterns. The walls and ceiling have been coated with plaster and painted with a variety of unusual scenes featuring strange rooms, odd creatures and exotic locations. The floor is decorated with mosaic tilework which features an obvious “path” of bright red tiles that wind across the ground. Not a hint of the original stonework is visible under the heavy decoration.

Pit Fiend

Alright, could you all by any chance add whether you have darkvision or a light source, and how far it extends? (Right next to the HP) I am not going to enforce lighting rules during combat (unless you are completely blind)

I mainly need to know for certain long corridors in which you may not be able to see everything.

Pit Fiend

I officially started up again. Alright guys, lets put on a good show. You all have a party chemistry like none I've seen before and I'm positive that we could perhaps reach the end of this campaign in time. If there is ever a time when I feel like there is a climactic scene coming up, or even a climactic battle, I will talk to you all about setting up a time to perhaps meet via roll20/Google Hangouts so we could set up one or two hours to complete such an event. If nothing works out, that's no matter, we could always do it here... minus the epic music I have picked out or my voiceover narration describing entire scenes.

Pit Fiend

Almost immediately after Lady Kheti speaks the words "sick sense of humor", the rest of you notice a black aura slowly rising about her, starting at her feet and then creeping up her armor. As this blackness continues she seems not to notice it and continues doing what she was... until she is completely enveloped. Once this happens, the blackness disperses almost as if a cloud of smoke, with Kheti... no longer inside. She is in Limbo and will be plopped back into the world once she posts

The cackle you all heard earlier returns, but this time, once it dies down, it is followed by words. "Oh, you all are certainly fun to watch, you are. My master was correct... visiting his former home -Golarion- was certainly bound to be amusing." For those of you who have never experienced telepathy before, the string of words appearing in your minds directly is certainly a peculiar, and perhaps an invasive feeling. Even if you have experienced it before... this time it feels vaguely alien.

"Don't worry about your friend. I'm just keeping her for such a short time. Sick sense of humor; how rude! My master and I would never be accused of such a thing!" The laughter now dies down completely and somewhere to the left of where you all are, sand blows outwards revealing a small crevice. "But perhaps enough of watching you squirm. The true entrance to my master's Tomb is over yonder. You DO wish to seek the entrance, do you not?"

Pit Fiend

I sent Kheti a PM. if she doesn't respond in 24 hours, I will start the game and put her in limbo. If she doesn't respond it one week... well I'll send another PM to see if she's alright.

I wonder why illithids aren't on that list... what's that? They aren't owned by paizo? By Torag's Beard, that's a shame! Whelp, I guess I could turn to some fey creatures. After all, what could be seen as more monstrous than. A city of tooth fairies, just waiting for an unsuspecting person to walk by?

I mean seriously, look at these things. If that doesn't scream "Write an article on me" I don't know what will.

Pit Fiend

Just one more player to go, then I could finally start this back up. It feels good to be here and storycrafting again.

Pit Fiend

Alright, there is also another mechanic that I would like to introduce. It has no effect on YOUR characters, rather the actions of friendly NPCs, and thus the story as a whole. Every so often, when an NPC wants to make a decision on their own, I will post in this discussion forum the choices this character could make (and the character WILL make one of said decisions). Your job is to OOC decide what you want the character to do. This is a personal choice, and you will rarely have time to discuss it in character. Your job is to then PM me what you want the character to do, and I will have it play out within the gameplay thread depending on the tally of the votes.

I want to do this as I wrote up multiple possible branching paths for the NPCs and want you to be able to influence the game world outside of the characters you control. Each decision WILL have an effect on the story that would likely be separate from the decisions your own characters will make.

Pit Fiend

I will note that I have shifted the story somewhat. Existing characters will likely stay the same, but I am now going for a much darker tone than before. Your characters need not change personalities to reflect this, and in fact, I believe this group to have amazing chemistry... but do be aware that things may seem to want to kick you while you are down. As always, I try my best to avoid having you to roll up a new character but, I thought it only fair to warn you that things may change tones from when I last left you.

Pit Fiend

That's three... only two more.

Exploring the Tapestry WOULD be interesting... but then I would have to figure out which creatures are public domain, which are owned by whoever makes CoC and which belong to paizo.

Well we have five and a half hours. Is that enough to have maybe three of us write one a piece?

Did anyone compile a few new haunts? If not, there is still a a few hours in which a few of us could write one or two and let someone who hasn't reached the submission limit... well, submit.
