Interesting question that was brought up, that I hadn't given much thought about until the other night.

Cleric is next to two enemies. He casts Grace (swift action that doesn't provoke).

Does this mean that his first square is no longer threatened when he starts moving?

Under Provoking an Attack of Opportunity: Moving - Moving out of a threatened square usually provokes attacks of opportunity from threatening opponents. There are two common methods of avoiding such an attack - the 5 foot step and withdraw action.

Grace was always used in thousands of sessions we had before, but always casted with no enemies around to move through enemy squares to prevent provoking.

Because the cleric hasn't started moving yet, does that mean his starting square is still threatened or does Grace now make that starting square exempt?

Other than obtaining a Ring of Inner Fortitude, are there items, feats, etc that a PC can get to help him avoid ability score damage or drain. I'm not talking about healing it but rather pro-active ways of avoiding it or reducing it at the point of contact.

When you recover ability points from the Heal skill (normal or long term care), can the points be split up or do they have to go to one stat?

When inserting a flawed or cracked ioun stone into a Wayfinder, would you receive the bonus from Resonant Powers (Method I)?

Under Resonant Powers (method I) in "Seeker of Secrets" it says if that stone(pink and green sphere) is inserted in a Wayfinder you get a +1 Will save bonus, but does it have to be a unflawed/uncracked stone?

My specific example is using a cracked pink and green cracked sphere. When inserted into a Wayfinder should you receive a +1 to Will saves?

Search didn't pull up anything regarding flawed/cracked stones with Wayfinders

So I have a guy in my group who is playing a human with the Racial Heritage feat (Ratfolk). He also took the feat Sharptooth which gives him a bite attack at 1d3 damage.

The problem is, Sharptooth is only available if you are a Ratfolk (small sized creature) or taken with Racial Heritage (which as a medium sized human he did).

Question is: does he use the damage based on the feat (1d3) or does he do bite damage based on his medium size (1d6)?

I'm inclined to think that the the feat is correct as this is a matter of specific over general rule.

Thoughts?

So is anyone aware of a way to increase a paladin's lay on hands ability to heal more than using d6? Is there a feat that will give him a dice higher? Originally was thinking empower spell-like ability but LOH is supernatural so that's out.

I can't find anything searching the message boards but is coup de grace a "death attack" under the glossary explanations?

Specifically from the PRD:
"In most cases, a death attack allows the victim a Fortitude save to avoid the effect, but if the save fails, the creature takes a large amount of damage, which might cause it to die instantly.
• Death attacks slay instantly. A victim cannot be made stable and thereby kept alive.
• In case it matters, a dead character, no matter how he died, has hit points equal to or less than his negative Constitution score.

It seems to fit the criteria, but under coup de grace it says nothing that it is.

I have been playing RPGs for 28 yrs. I try to run a relaxed style that emphasizes role-playing over roll-playing.

So I have realized this error in my book for sometime and thought 'eh no big deal, I'll just check the PRD and see how they resolved it.' To my surprise it still has NOT been fixed.

In the Appendix of the "Ultimate Equipment" PRD and hardcopy, there is an error under the Random Weapon chart. The numbers jump and leaves dead space.

62–63 Quarterstaff
64–65 Rapier
85–87 Spear
88 Trident

As you can see, 66 to 84 are missing and with no weapons, which should at least fit scimitar and a few other weapons in there.

I hope this can be addressed soon.

Could not find in my search-fu:

From the PRD:

"Targeted Dispel: This functions as a targeted dispel magic, but it can dispel one spell for every four caster levels you possess, starting with the highest level spells and proceeding to lower level spells."

So when a wizard at 11th level casts greater dispel magic, how many does the wizard get?

Does he get 2 because 4th/8th

OR

Does he get 3 because 1 thru 4, 5 thru 8, 9 thru 12?

Looking at the skeletal mage from AP #44, they are given Silent Spell as a bonus feat when they became undead. It really didn't dawn on me until now that they wouldn't be able to speak since they don't have vocal chords per se.

Now here is where it gets fun:

IN the stat block, the spells they have memorized are at their original levels, no spell is modified with Silent Spell. Skeletal mages retain their intelligence too.

So it bears to ask, can intelligent skeletons speak? If so, why give Silent Spell as a bonus feat?

Ok I am not 100% familiar with the Oracle class. I have read up on it as best as I can but its not answering my question so I must turn to ye old wise sages of the boards:

So how does an Oracle deal with the casting of evil/good descriptor spells. Is it the same as cleric or do the Oracle have more of a cart blanche? I currently have an Oracle in a game I run who is Chaotic Neutral. I know clerics, druids, and inquisitor can't cast spells of an alignment opposed to her own or her deity's, but since an Oracle doesn't have a deity per se, how does that work? Thanks for the insight....

Date shipped says Feb 17, so today makes 2 weeks and I have received nothing yet. Wasn't sure if there was any issues shipping this time around? Usually I receive my stuff in about 6 days, so I just wanted to bring it to someone's attention just in case something odd has happened (like another freak snowstorm).

I currently run an alternating game with another DM on Friday nights. I am seeking an additional player in my game when those nights when I DM arrive.

We try to play every Friday night from about 7pm until 2am. My game is mostly 3.5 rules with a sprinkle of Pathfinder stuff mixed in. We are all guys aged 36+, most with families, and we all are pretty normal...well as normal as grown adults playing a game with dice and mini's can be. :)

Just a quick discussion between me and another player brought this issue up...

If a creature has been affected by a slow spell, can he still use the pounce ability when it charges? I know the slow spell only allows him to move his move action speed rate.... So could he move 20 ft in a charge and gain the benefits of the pounce ability?

I say yes, but my buddy isnt so sure...

While being grappled...can you still make a full attack with a light or one handed weapon (provided that you have the BAB to do 2 or more attacks)? I know in 3.5 you were able to, but looking at the Pathfinder rules it only says "an attack" and I can not find anywhere where it says full/multiple attacks..

Maybe I am just not finding the right page. Any help would be great.

Will a darkness cancel out an everburning torch and vice versa?

I would think that it would but part of me is holding back on saying yes, maybe cause its a permanent magic item...i dont know.

Both are level two, and both mention that "x" spell of same or higher level negates each other....

Any thoughts?

I am glad that adding a spell to a spellbook is much cheaper in Pathfinder, but my question is.... How do we get the 'special' ink to write spells in a spellbook? More to the point I guess is this question...can a PC use the craft skill to make this "special ink"? Is it even "special ink" that we need to add these spells? It just says it costs "X" amount in materials to write the spell into a book.

Any insights?

I am more than a bit irritated receiving my books with badly crimped corners. I dont know if its because Paizo stuffs 4 books in one cardboard envelope or if the US Postal Service is playing envelope football with my stuff, but lately I have been getting really badly crimped corners and some tiny tears in my Pathfinder and GameMastery stuff.

It there a way you guys can ship stuff in a more spacious envelope or something? I understand you guys try to reduce shipping costs to make customers happy, but I want my stuff in decent condition when it arrives.

We dont use mounted combat in my games, but I have a player that likes the concept of his halfling animal companion using his goat as a war mount.

So I guess my question is.....how much can you do with your mount? Assuming the PC can make the DC 5 Ride skill check to guide with knees, which of the following would apply?

A) Can the mount do a double move, allowing the PC to do a full round of actions?

B) If the mount takes a single move, does this allow the PC to do a full round of actions?

C) If the mount double moves, does the PC only get one standard action?

Can anyone point to any books that cover Mounted Combat better, other than the PHB?

Sieben the Poet arrived in town the day before the Festival. He got a feel for the town, even inquiring about getting a part at the Sandpoint Theater...performing oratories or possibly showing his talent on the flute. His main reason for coming to town was to make a name for himself as a performer and where better to do that than a town that was about ready to re-dedicate their temple? Sieben is a slim young man somewhat taller than most. His clothes are of fine cloth; his long blond hair trimmed and pulled back into a ponytail with a silver headband. Only the baldric and knives give any evidence that he has any skill in weaponry.

Ton'ess has been in town about 6 months. He received a vision (he believes from his god Irori) to come to the town of Sandpoint to help rebuild the church. He made his long journey from Absalom trading work for passage on ships to get to town. When he arrived the Abstalar Zantus welcomed him with open arms, setting him up with a cot and a warm meal at the church in return for his work. Ton'ess wasn't always a hard worker...he was forced into it. He came from a very well to do family but a run in with some bandits changed all that. Ton'ess barely escaped and after being in the wilds for a couple months, a church of Irori took him in and he dedicated himself to them. He doesn't look like a typical Tian, his blond hair and blue eyes seem to contrast most others of his kind. His short stature (5'6) and lean body make him a very capable warrior. He only carries a simple staff and two kamas, one of a dark metal and the other of silver. He wasn't seeking the life as an adventurer, but he knows that building a monastery will cost him.

Hap was familiar with the town of Sandpoint with his farm two days away to the northeast. Once every few months he would come into town for an item needed on his farm. He never really talked to people much, just get in and get out. He could never understand the thinking of city-folk and really he had no desire to try and understand. His farm was simple, two milk cows, a couple chickens, and his goat Weathersby, a brixashulty. One day, a few hours before dawn, he was awaken by the sound of screaming animals and a loud thump on his walls. Darting out of bed, he could see goblins dancing around his barn that they lit on fire. Grabbing his club, he ran out to meet them, killing two and causing the other two to run off back-up. Knowing his farm was half gone and his animals gone in the fire, except Weathersby, he packed up what he could and headed toward Sandpoint. Hap is a normal tallfellow halfling who loved his farm. Now he seeks the adventuring life so he can gain some funds and rebuild what he has lost.

Marshak has been in and out of towns like Sandpoint for years. He discovered his talent to freely cast magic as a youth, but his judgements as to when to use that magic has been lacking. His family kicked him out at an early age and he sought that his only way to make in in the world was to be with adventurers. He latched on with various groups, thinking he would make a great mascot with him barely 14. These groups soon regretted their choices as Marshak would cast his minor magics at the worst possible times....casting light when they were trying to sneak up on the enemy, using mage hand to lift things over open spaces like sewers only to drop them in the grates, etc. After awhile groups would sneak off in the middle of the night, pay him gold to go away, and the last group left him at the Sandpoint gates, tied and gagged. He has come to like Sandpoint, spending most of his time and his gold at the Pixie's Kitten and the Fatman's Feedbag. He can be found frequently sleeping the streets or a pig pen.

Ok who are we kidding? I love politics and have a BA in Political Science....

Anywho.....

Obama touted "Change we can believe in" yet as I see his choices for cabinet positions it looks like Clint era part two. Choices seem to be party-line except for Defense Sec. (which last I read he was keeping Gates there).

I dont mind party-line choices and I am 75% republican and 25% democrat in my beliefs/philosophies, but ok serious....

Hiliary as Sec of State?? As gruff as she is, I dont know. I think hubby Bill better be coming with her on those foreign trips. Not being from NY I dont know how good of a Senator she is, but it just seems a little out of place.

Ok so I was at a comic book shop last week and saw the Pathfinder Elf book. I was confused as to why they got a copy before I did, but when I looked at my order histories I saw that it was never shipped cuz it was never on any shipment list.

I guess my question is, is this something I have to order seperately or did you guys forget me?

Hey I got the order yesterday and the book is way cool.

I got my shipment today and 3 of the 5 books were damaged. The Adventure path issues were fine, but the 2 adventures took a little damage (crimped corner near the spine) and the gods book took enough damage that the pages are starting to come out a little of the spine.

I can live with the damage to the adventures, but can I please get a replacement for the "Gods & Magic" book?
