Male Blood Elf
"Congratulations and nicely fought champions! You have defeated the mighty Lord Antares, forcing him to flee underground. This contest is officially over!" Davin's voice booms across both the arena and the common room, informing all within of the outcome. You are all instantly teleported back to the little entry vestibule, and are met by the Arena Grandmaster. "Well done, well done! A grand victory indeed. For besting your foe, I will train each of you in a cooperative technique of your choice, along with teaching you a pair of additional combat proficiencies. You may also gain knowledge of one offensive power unique to your personal fighting style. Finally, ask Mitchifer for a 'Slap Yo Mama' at the bar. Trust me, it's worth it, I promise!" Davin says with a chuckle.

"Normally, there's a 'no pre combat buff' rule for the arena." Comes a new voice. "However, since you're entering as a means to test your capabilities as a team before taking on a Job, you may have one full round to cast whatever spells, powers, or activate similar abilities. We don't want you to have too great of an advantage."

1) About half way done with Davin.

Regarding Davin's alignment, as its mostly a mechanical concern, I was thinking he could be treated as a good outsider for things that have an increased effect vs them. He would still be a native to the Material Plane, so he wouldn't be banished if on that plane, but he would suffer greater damage from Smite Good, and similar effects.

Two things about Davin that are important: 1) I'm using Rogue Genius Games archetype packages to trade out the Paladin's Divine Guardian package for the Cavalier's Horseman package. Still a Paladin base, but a bit more martial. Divine Guardian:
Divine Guardian: The Divine Guardian archetype grants a paladin the detect evil and aura of courage class abilities, plus all of the paladin's spellcasting ability. A paladin that gives up this package never receives any of those abilities, gains no caster level, has no spells/day, and has no access to the paladin spell list. Horseman:
Horseman: The Horseman archetype includes the mount, cavalier's charge, expert trainer, mighty charge, and supreme charge abilities. Also, he worships a triumvirate of deities, who I trying to come up with a cool name for: Iomedae, Sarenrae, and Milani. Along with the Empyreal Lord Ragathiel. Thus, his alignment is Good. Not LG, NG, CG, just Good.

This is Davin's current(very unfinished) backstory: Spoiler: Few threats to the Inner Sea have been as dangerous and dire as that of Tar-Baphon known more infamously as the Whispering Tyrant. Originally a mortal wizard-king, he was slain by Aroden several thousand years ago. However, thanks to his sheer malevolent will and dark powers, he eventually returned to the realm of the living, as an incredibly powerful lich. Taking control of the orcs of Belkzen, he consolidated his power in his fortress Gallowspire, ruling over the surrounding lands for five centuries before the then mighty empire Taldor rallied their forces and launched the Shining Crusade in an effort to defeat this vile threat. The armies of Taldor, and their allies overtook the town of Vellumis, on the same day that a local couple gave birth to a newborn baby boy. They named him Shinari, for his skin had soft golden hue to it. Growing up Shinari, who was clearly blessed by the divine, heard tales daily of the ongoing crusade battling the forces of the Whispering Tyrant, and on his sixteenth birthday, he entered the church of Aroden. He hoped to join the war effort as a solider, but the god had different plans for him. That very night, The Last Azlanti visited the young man, and told him that his path would not be that of a mindless warrior, throwing themselves repeatedly at the inexorable tide of Tar-Baphon's endless hordes. Rather, Shinari would be tasked with specifically hunting down and slaying the enemies of the Church, empowered by the god to deliver his judgement upon them. So it was that the young Aasimar, for that is what Aroden revealed him to be, joined the Shining Crusade. For ten long, grueling years, he hunted, tracked, cornered, and ultimately destroyed the enemies of Aroden. Sometimes alone, but more often than not, as a part of the main army. Which is how he found himself fighting alongside a young and still very mortal, Iomedae, a heroine even then. The two became fast friends, and soon, staunch allies, usually fighting together, being sent on the same missions, and so forth. Thus it was he was beside her as she battled the Lord of Mohrgs, Erum-Hel and again when the Whispering Tyrant shattered her favored blade with his foul magicks, only for the warrior maiden to reforge it on the strength of her faith alone. Sadly, it was shortly after this miracle, that disaster befell the young Aasimar. During the hieght of the final battle with Tar-Baphon, he was the victim of vile spell, that captured his body and soul inside a gem. One of the lich's lieutenants had committed the horrid act, and he carried around the trophy proudly. This half-orc Sorecerer, known only as Rakzzit, wore the gem around his neck on mitrhal chain as his prized possession. As the Whispering Tyrant was bound within Gallowspire, Rakzzit abandoned his liege, teleporting away from the battle that was lost. However, life was not easy for the craven mage, as he was a well known figure in Tar-Baphon's army. A small band of Taldan troops hunted him for the next two decades, but the wily spellcaster always managed to evade capture. Eventually his luck ran, and in a climatic fight, ended up trapped within mausoleum deep within Ustalav. Yet, thanks to a minor magic ring, he survived, despite being practically buried alive. Then in 4606, Aroden died, and the resulting backlash somehow manages to unseal Rakzzit's living tomb. The half orc, who was rather unhinged due to centuries spent locked underground, broke free and started to terrorize the surrounding populace. Within a year he had taken over a small, partially ruined fort, and waged war, mostly against peasants he believed were Taldan soldiers. His freedom, and life was cut short not too long after, as Iomedae, now a goddess, divined his presence. She sent word to an Archon, newly arrived on Golarion thanks to the opening of the Worldwound, to go and defeat the mad sorcerer and free her imprisoned friend. Areniel, as the Archon was called, teleported straight to Rakzzit's stronghold, and challenged the crazed mage to a public duel. For while he sought the foul villain's end, he also wanted to inspire the people of the village that had endured the half orc's depredations. The fight, if it could truly be called that, was rather short lived. Rakzzit, driven mostly insane, lost what little of his mind he had left at being called out by some 'feathery freak'. Paying little heed to the potent magicks at his disposal, he opted to engage Areniel in physical combat. Had he relied on his spellcasting, he might have won, but deciding to try and out melee his foe proved to be his undoing, and not long before the battle began, Rakzzit was slain.
**Interest check** for a crazy, cooperative, collaborative, storytelling game(Gestalt, Epic, Mythic)
This is my character, though he was built for the Masters of Golarion, which was non gestalt. My brother(Maven), did not actually start playing in that game. As for monsters, we've decided it would be best if(should you choose to play one) your CR takes up both halves of your gestalt. I think this works out, since many of the more powerful monsters tend to sort of be gestalt anyways, as they have their monster HD and abilities, and spellcasting. So, if you wanted to be a Draconal, for example, it's CR 20 would leave you with five levels, since we're 25th level characters. However, you're casting as a 17th level cleric, regardless of what your class levels are. Additionally, this is a good game. While I don't mind if a PC is evil, Chaotic Evil is right out, and probably NE and CN as well. We're heroes, more or less, and thus this also limits your 'monster' choices. Sure, you can be redeemed(which could tie you to Davin) but ya can't be undead, or other creatures that are generally unable to be good. @Yoriks, I'm not 100% sure how this is going to work. As I said above, I've never tried this sort of combination game, and I personally have never heard of anybody trying such either. That said, yea, its going to be as shared as possible. I got the idea last night when I was thinking about how Davin's established a refugee camp in Geb, and how one of his followers would be in charge of the Wagons of Light from Black Markets. Then I was like "Well, who frakin cares? Sure its cool, but there's only three players, and its unlikely we'll do something with that." And that's how I got the idea of wanting to bring in more players, who might want to actually use that refugee camp, or anything we've created, for their own storytelling purposes.

Well, that's a lot of interesting ideas and such. First, let me respond to my question. Regardless of what ends up happening with Leadership, Davin will have it, even if he must spend the feat, so I am OK with the second option. On to the other stuff: 1) I have no problem here, although I was considering taking Warpriest if we went with the gestalt option(see 6). Would that be a problem? 2) With Areniel possibly not coming back, the four of us currently are all more or less 'normal' races. Thus, I am unsure if we need to worry about monster race balance at the moment. With that said, I would like the option to modify/create a sort of Noble Aasimar with the Race Builder. I know you were worried about the crazy that could ensure, but if I stick to 36 or so RP(The cost of a Noble Drow), I can't see myself being any more insane than a silver dragon or trumpet archon. 3) This sounds interesting, and I would be curious for more details. 4) I think allowing Leadership as a freebie is a good idea, as its the perfect mechanical means of tying one into the existing world, which I feel is so essential to this game. The epic leadership feat allows for near infinite expansion of followers, so that shouldn't be too hard to figure out. As for the cohort, this raises a question I've been meaning to ask in general: Will be gaining normal levels, past 25, or is it all mythic tiers from here on out? If we will eventually level to 26 and beyond, then there should be some way to increase our cohort too. Not sure how, just yet, however. 5) This is fine, no problems here. 6) My brother and I are quite the fans of gestalt, so you'll have no problems convincing us to use them for this game. We both think they will allow us to further flesh our out characters and make them more interesting. 7) Before I truly answer this, I think the question I asked about leveling needs to be answered.
Male Blood Elf
I was actually thinking it would require some sort of cool, thematic quest to transform a holy avenger into a sacred one. Would it possible for me to make my character sheet as an alias here? I have a rather high level PC already, Akor to show I can handle making a PC of the level we're at. Fnord, gonna PM you something to help challenge us, and Arinel, sending you one as well. Btw, this will be the alias I'll be posting under. Yes, the name is different than the one in the backstory above, but I promise it'll make sense. |
