My chronicle sheet feels like it tells the story, "I was also present at that mission!" since everything is crossed out lol

Also yeah, my least favorite part of GMing scenarios is the paperwork of chronicle sheets.

I also really enjoyed the scenario, it was perfect for Darven to explore his character.

I am also normal, but I have done slow on occasion for things like Emerald Spire or to stay in level for all three parts of All for Immortality.

Darven looks shocked, "We can't make her look drunk! That would make it seem like she got wasted, and this is partially her fault...No, I think we should just leave her tied up to cause her the least amount of trouble later."

The scenario should definitely have a listed linguistics check to solve the cipher if the player cannot. I like when a scenario offers a puzzle to the players, but not if there isn't an option for the characters to solve the puzzle, it can get pretty frustrating.

solving this, do not open unless you give up on solving the cipher! I am not Grand Lodge, but I don't want you to lose your faction mission because of an irl thing; your character may be able to solve a cipher you cannot.:

I cannot figure out the substitution cipher used in Taldan Cipher 3. I can't seem to find the logic behind how it works at all, so I skipped it and went to Taldan Cipher 2.

Following the same code as this cipher, the message translates like this.

K-Y-V-W-K-C-E-C-O-O-M-I-M-E-C-G-G-C-Q-F-C
N-B-Y-Z-N-F-C-F-M-M-P-G-P-C-F-J-J-F-T-I-F
W?
Yeah, that doesn't work, even read backwards or skipping letters. Well, let's try the same thing, but in reverse, so vowels move 2 forward and consonants move 3 backwards.

K-Y-V-W-K-C-E-C-O-O-M-I-M-E-C-G-G-C-Q-F-C
H-A-S-T-H-Z-G-Z-Q-Q-J-K-J-G-Z-D-D-Z-N-C-Z
V?

Well, I see HAS TH-, so it started off with something interesting. What if we drop the whole vowel/consonant thing and just move everything backwards 3?

K-Y-V-W-K-C-E-C-O-O-M-I-M-E-C-G-G-C-Q-F-C
H-A-S-T-H-Z-B-Z-L-L-J-F-J-B-Z-D-D-Z-N-C-Z

HAS TH- B-LL? Just as a hunch, lets change the Z's in that last thing to E's and figure out how we got there (moving forward 2).

K-Y-V-W-K-C-E-C-O-O-M-I-M-E-C-G-G-C-Q-F-C
H-A-S-T-H-E-B-E-L-L-J-F-J-B-E-D-D-E-N-C-E

HAS THE BELL JFJBEDDENCE

Well, we moved the C's forward 2, might as well try all of the other letters in this last section.

K-Y-V-W-K-C-E-C-O-O-M-I-M-E-C-G-G-C-Q-F-C
H-A-S-T-H-E-B-E-L-L-J-F-J-B-E-D-D-E-N-C-E
H-A-S-T-H-E-B-E-L-L-O-K-O-G-E-I-I-E-S-H-E

And I have no idea where to go to with this information. Do they really expect irl players to solve this at the end of a 4 hour scenario? This took me like 2 hours to get this much.

I did not solve it, but I think I'm close, so this is more like a super big hint for you grand lodge players if you get stuck.

I think we should leave the caretaker bound and gagged. She will definitely inform people that intruders were here, and this place sucks, so we should make her part in the invasion believable. If I was a bit more morally grey, I'd suggest beating her up with non-lethal damage as well, but neither myself nor Darven would ever officially suggest that.

With the little time remaining to us, and likely having lost some due to altering the staff member a few times early, I definitely think we should clean up and skedaddle. If anyone wants to leave false clues, now is the time to do it.

Not Grand Lodge, but here is some analysis you can ignore if you want:

it doesn't look like you have enough clues yet to crack the cipher. All we have so far is that it might be read backwards at every X/3 letters.

Currently, that gives you QFMOEWK. The only thing I can draw from this is that it's a 7 letter word that has no repeating letters. Alternatively, it could be a 4 and 3 letter phrase, like FAST LIE / LIE FAST. It probably would be a lot clearer with at least one more clue.

It looks like we uncovered all the rooms and searched the most secretive of them. We know that people are going to know that some group was down here searching everything, so maybe some of their deceitful among us can mislead future investigations by planting false evidence. Perhaps we can blame the Aspis Consortium? Depending on how much time we have left, some of us could search a room before we head out and replace our illusions.

Assuming she goes along with it, Darven ties up the caretaker in a believable but hopefully not too uncomfortable position.

Darven stares back at the caretaker horrified, "THEY TOOK YOUR SIGHT AS A PUNISHMENT!?" his horror quickly shifts to utter rage at the injustice committed in this place.

It takes him a few moments of calming breathing to return to a more neutral state, "I can assure you, we would not kill you. You can ask the foo dogs and foo lion in the other room that we encountered. There was an altercation, but no one died and I offered to heal their wounds."

He thinks to himself while Tinker speaks, "Unfortunately, I am unable to restore your sight myself, but my offer still stands to join my library. I would be more than happy to add into Tinker's donation as well as offering you a position."

Darven rejoins the group to aid in the search and looks to the caretaker and then his party, "I know you wish to warn your supervisors of our presence. Even I am dismayed at some of their behavior and I am reaching the point where my tenets will no longer allow me to work alongside them, lest I lose my way on the path to improvement."

Darven pulls parchment from his pack and begins scribbling a note;

To Whom it May Concern,

The caretaker of this restricted section was placed in a highly stressful situation where myself and my associates appeared to be invaders in this area of the library. Let it be known that she made attempts to warn others of our presence when given the chance and she be commended for her loyalty and service. It seems likely if you are reading this letter that she has already informed you of what transpired, but I don't want this record, unlike many others in your care, to be misrecorded. We came here seeking the truth that has been hidden and doctored to the point of unrecognizability. We came here to stand against the injustice that your library represents by containing such a restricted wealth of knowledge. And we came here to show you that no matter how hard you try to keep knowledge a secret, it will eventually come to light. Better to face the truth on your own terms than have others thrust it into the light whilst you are unprepared.

Signed,
A seeker of truth

Darven hands the note to the caretaker, "I understand you will report our presence and actions here, but I ask you to wait until the performance above comes to its conclusion and we have left. You may not believe me, but we are stealing nothing" he says glaring around while remembering the shield and potions, "only making copies of some of the knowledge recorded here that should be available to everyone."

Realization dawning on him that the caretaker wears a blindfold, "Oh uh, you can see without the blindfold right? I can tell you what the note says if you desire or you can keep it a mystery from yourself to preserve your genuine reactions when delivering it to your superiors."

Tell you what, people are definitely going to know there were intruders at this point which is why I'm writing the note, but hopefully they won't tie it to the Society.

It is not actually entirely accurate. It still includes the statement that being tied up in a grapple makes you helpless; it does not.

It also states that it is unclear if you can use greater/rapid grapple on the turn you initiate a grapple; you cannot; Mark Seifter has cleared this up.

Additionally, it states that if you fail to tie up a conscious creature, you maintain control of the grapple; you do not. You roll to maintain to tie up; failing the check means you failed to maintain the grapple.

Finally, not an inaccuracy, but it is interesting to mention; maintaining a grapple can be done at any point in your turn. You can take your move and swift before you take your standard to maintain if you desire.

Mark Seifter did a great Arcane Mark video on grappling.

Otherwise, the chart is pretty decent, it just needs a few updates and minor fixes.

Side Note: There is not a "hard" limit on the number of creatures you can grapple. You take a -4 penalty if you don't have two hands free, but with Grab or Greater Grapple, you can easily grab two or more enemies and keep them in a grapple. Without Grabbing Master, you have to maintain versus each creature separately; this feat increases it to two at a time. If you have Tatzlwyrm Rake, you can grapple people with any two limbs, typically suggesting your legs.
Bonus Fact: There is no size limit on grapple. A fine sized mosquito can grapple a colossal sized Titan. It is difficult, but a nat 20 still always succeeds for grapple checks.

Wow weird, I sure have always read that feat as allowing you to cast another spell, but I'm not the GM in this game.

Darven rushes towards the commotion at his faster-than-average pace. Double move for 80ft. "What's happening?" he says once he arrives close to the action.

I have a wand of mage armor and some potions of mage armor on my belt. I'm going to drink a potion on my next turn, but if someone wants to save me a turn of that feel free to utilize one of those items on me. Additionally, feel free to use some charges for yourself if you take the wand.

I should definitely find a way to invest in diplomacy. At the very least, the Champion of Irori PrC will make it a class skill

Darven stares at the woman in disbelief, "You are...forbidden from reading books? Does this place even know what a library is?" Darven says as he pinches the bridge of his nose. "No one should be forbidden from reading, and no book should be forbidden. Tell you what, would you like to read? Come work at my library, and you can read whatever you want and get paid to work there. If you have a family, bring them too."

Hearing the roar, Darven spins around, "You think about that, it sounds like someone is in trouble, and I don't want anyone to get hurt."

I don't have much to add until the caretaker responds, but this might be one of the few scenarios where splitting up is almost necessary to cover the amount of ground we need to cover in the minimal amount of time we have. Unfortunately, every time I've experienced splitting the party in Pathfinder, most of the party ends up dead, so please be careful!

Darven responds to the woman, "Greetings. I am a librarian and find myself far more enamored with the library than the play."

perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28

If I had diplomacy or charisma at all, which I don't:

Darven continues, "We haven't met in person before, but I imagine you are the caretaker the pleasant lion spoke of? I'm looking for some specific texts and, while I am quite accustomed to the Lewey Decimal System, the multiple rooms your material is spread out in is throwing me of. Perhaps you could be of some assistance. One librarian to another?"

Darven continues, "You must be the caretaker. I know the Lewey Decimal System, but you have too many rooms to make sense of. Can you show me where these materials are?"

"These" referring to materials we might be looking for.

I'm not sure if we have enough time to clear everything, but that's kind of why I suggest at least opening all the doors down both hallways to see what's inside them before spending a ton of time searching the rooms. Let's look at the big picture of the whole library before we get caught up in all the small details of each room.

It's ok, despite the name "trapfinding" it mostly exists for disarming traps, not finding them...I mean it gives a bonus, but no trap requires you to have trapfinding to find it, unlike magical traps in 3.5 I believe.

Darven narrows his eyes, "Beyond? Can you show us where these texts are? I wish I could stay longer, and perhaps I will find a way to return to such a wonderful place and help maintain this collection. Alas, we have only be given a very narrow window of time to explore this grand library today."

Darven pulls out his personal copy of Unbinding the Fetters, "Would you be interested in perusing this text from Irori that describes a way to reach enlightenment? While I'm sure its a part of the collection upstairs, I doubt you would have seen a copy down here."

After reading the spoiler, I'm not sure whether being part of the Lion Blades would be a positive or negative thing from the Guardian's perspective. He could be worried that we're spies from the Lion Blades, or he could be created by the Lion Blades to only allow members in.

Part of the reason why you should consider telling the truth when you aren't sure what the consequences will be for any answer, eh? Just something Darven would state if you mused this out loud.

Darven nods once again, "I am impressed with your desire to keep this library safe. Such sentiment resonates with my soul as well. Regardless of your spell, I speak the truth. Lies lead nowhere productive, which is part of why we are here. I am following Irori's example and seek to discover the truth of things. You may not be aware, but many documents outside these hidden sections have been altered and changed and resemble little of the truth."

Darven then thinks to himself of any stories he can share, "I always care a book or two with me, and I have heard of many interesting events. I would be happy to share my knowledge with you. Such is the goal of all librarians, right?"

Personally, I'm viewing this mostly as Darven stating facts, not trying to be diplomatic per se. My diplomacy is terrible, so I'd like to refrain from rolling it unless it is required to proceed (1d20-2).
