I's not likin' this thread.

I says we gets Goblin Cleaver to is be new edition of cleavy-lizardboy! Goblin Cleaver is represents common goblin. Speakings to me on personal levels, he is.

Look through the threads in the section for Rise of the Runelords, and a campaign run by a poster "tbug". His group ran goblins through this AP, and I believe he posted extensive notes on how they altered the campaign to fit.

I also played a goblin in RotRL. Was a lot of fun, though it required a bit of extra effort from the GM.

I mean one that failed so horribly at their goal that they became twisted, horrid, beings.

That hurts, it does.

Ah! Reptilian! I didn't see this. It's fine--just glad you're okay. This remains my favorite PbP I've ever been fortunate enough to be in. I was just posting on a thread chatting about spotlight-hogging PCs, used Darst as an example, and thought I'd check up here. Glad I did.

I'll be serious for a moment about Darst. While I had a blast with him, and I like to think the others in the PbP also enjoyed his antics, some characters are just naturally attention-grabbing. No matter how hard I tried to get him out of the way now and again so the other players could take the spotlight, he always seemed to find a way to distract. He was a goblin in Burnt Offerings. Kinda hard to keep him out of the way.

It's not always the player's fault. Sometimes they just make a character that attracts attention, and that might annoy the other players after a while. It's something to keep in mind.

So much opportunity? Maybe, but is it equal opportunity for the other players? That's one of the dangers of playing the fish out of water or the lone example of something that, until the player asked for it, explicitly did not exist. If the DM is expected to play the NPCs with any consistency and realism, one would expect that fish out of water to garner more than his fair share of attention. Does that keep the game an ensemble piece between the players or does it make the other players supporting characters for the oddball's star vehicle?
In such a situation, I'd probably suggest that all of the players play the same race option with maybe a minority of locals to act as guides into the local culture. That would distribute the attention in a way that's more equitable. Frankly, the whole situation may not sit well with other players at the table.

Why, this is crazytalk. Are you telling me it might steal the spotlight to play a non-core race in a game where that race does not exist, or is, indeed, antagonistic?

Absolute balderdash. I'm going back to Sandpoint to tell everyone how silly you are.

I had a goblin rogue with a 5 Charisma. He could never get above a 0 on his Bluff and Diplomacy checks.
Didn't help that we were in Rise of the Runelords and everybody wanted him dead. XD

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Guys, great news! I finally found a fitting avatar for Darst! ;D
Incidentally, Reptilian hasn't been heard from since February. :/

Always fun to play the straight man.
I's assuming.
;D

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Reptilian hasn't been seen anywhere since February 16th. I'm a little worried about him... :/

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Darst follows reluctantly. Also on total defense, so move is only 30 feet and AC increases by six.

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Bump.

Male Goblin Rogue 3

"They's got arrows."

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Darst keeps to his cautious stance and starts backing away.
Headed back.

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Darst goes on total defense and starts backing back to the others.

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Dang. That'll probably doom the attempt, given my luck on Charisma-based checks. Here goes....
Bluff: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
:/
If it helps, Darst isn't actually bluffing about anything except how Gogmurt died.

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Reptilian:
Darst hesitates for a moment. Then he takes a deep breath and glares at the goblins in the tower. In Goblin: "I'm here to fight your chief! Tell ol' Rotnugget I'm gonna slice his face through! Tell 'im to come out an' fight, if he ain't scared of Longshank Lover!"
Darst draws his silver dagger and holds it up for the goblins to see. "This here is Koruvus's knife! And this is Gogmurt's armor! I killed 'em both, an' Stinknugget's next!

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Reptilian:
If I've understood correctly, I can move quietly to the door, but if anybody's watching, I'll be seen. Correct? And I haven't seen anybody watching, so I'm going to take the chance.

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Reptilian:
Darst sneaks up to the door and tries to listen in.
Moving right next to the door, on total defense. Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Stealth: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (16) + 20 = 36

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Darst sneaks back toward where they came, trying to keep to the shrubs and rocks.
Probably a useless effort, but Stealth: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (5) + 20 = 25

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Darst looks nervous. "This's what I's worried about! We's gotta move quick now!"

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Darst keeps tumbling around to G13, and slashes at his foe's leg as he goes by.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
Attack (defensive): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0

Male Goblin Rogue 3

"Uh-oh."
Darst tumbles back to G15 and slashes at his foe.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
Attack (defensive): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
Oh dear.

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Bump.

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Darst leaps over to E14 and strikes again.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Main computer has contracted a virus. Hopefully it can be fixed, but I won't be able to post as frequently in the meantime. :/

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Darst tumbles around the goblin (moving to the opposite side)and slashes with his razor.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
Attack (defensive): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1

Male Goblin Rogue 3

And it's fine, Reptilian. I'd be a hypocrite if I got on anybody's case for procrastinating! XD

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Darst creeps out of the brush and slashes at his target.
Moving to E13 and sneak attacking: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27, hopefully against flat-footed AC.
Potential critical: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Not a crit.
Damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Sneak Attack: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Also here.

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Bump. Happy new year, all.

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Darst sneaks through the brush towards the enemies.
Going to E12. Stealth: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (12) + 20 = 32

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Bump. Venmirl?

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Darst nods nervously. The goblin crawls over on the rocks toward where the others are looking.
Stealth: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (16) + 20 = 36
I may be hiding in plain sight here, not sure. :P

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Darst looks confused.

"OK, get going Darst. We will cover you."

Darst nods and slowly advances along the bridge.

Total defense is on, if it matters.

** spoiler omitted **

For the record, I feel a little metagamey for this. I have been through this much of the adventure, and I knew very well what Darst just discovered. But yeah, no way around it. <|

Darst looks up. "Bridge looks weak!" he announces. "I's...thinking we's best cross once at times?"

Izbahn Douvurk wrote:

"Damn, I can't see anything here. If the gobbies are guarding the bridge, they are well hidden. Darst, can you see if that bridge is safe to walk on?"

Darst nods, though he doesn't seem quite sure where to start. He takes a look at the ropes.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

Izbahn doesn't detect anything magical in this chamber.

As for Darst, he doesn't find much beside the bones of small animals. The only thing of note he finds are several small clay pots hidden under dried leaf piles. Several are empty but other contains various things : dried and fresh plants, eyeballs, rotten eggs, and other foul smelling ingredients.

Darst shrugs, uninterested. He leaps up and runs back over to the others. "Nothing!"

Darst perks up. He runs over and starts searching through the vines, trying to see if anything of value is hidden within.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

Okay, so my AC just went up by two, right? Naes. :D

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Darst would like to rest for a minute and spend all 13 RP, to get to 24/25 HP.

Just fyi, you don't have to roll the save until you move or, if you don't move, the end of your turn.

Yup, end of my turn.

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Darst blinks. "Uh..."
Save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
In his uncertainty, a vine wraps around his leg. "Ack! No!"

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Bump.

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Darst makes his way through the thorns to stand between Naomi and the druid. He growls.
Staying on full defense and moving to N6. I believe that gives Naomi soft cover. I couldn't attack him this round anyways, and I didn't want to go adjacent with a low AC.
Reflex save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Between this and your hit points, I'm thinking Venmirl's luck has run out. :P
Good luck with the trial.

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Darst's eyes widen as the plants rise up. "Stupid!"
He rushes to rejoin his compatriots. The goblin dodges the thistles and looks around for their creator.
Double-move to M7. Reflex save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
FINALLY I get to use that bonus!
