Let me first start by saying you got some pretty cool stuff going on in your setting. I will be following this thread closely and look forward to maybe helping you build your world.
Golarion, in my mind, has seen the spread all of the races over mostly every part of the Inner Sea. This mostly likely reflects a time period in the world’s history where already established kingdoms have tamed a good chunk of the land. The Inner Sea has always appeared (in my mind at least) as a civilized land with not a whole ton of danger. Now I know some of the inner sea nations reflect and borrow a lot of European concepts, so if we look at the evolution of our world conversely with the evolution of Golarion, I can see why the Inner Sea is so bustling.
In my world, I tend to go a different direction, similar to how you are headed. In the real world, mankind has never had anything prey on him, so I find it hard to believe with animals like dragons & drakes & other big bad beasties that humanity has spread so unchecked (as well as the other races). With everything stacked up against them, I find it more conceivable that humanoids would only be able to support only a few kingdoms and humanoid influences. Furthermore, like all species in the world, I tend to agree that although humanity spreads like a weed, there would be areas on the world that are heavily dominated by other races. You will find that my world has more territory appropriate races and humanity is not always the main species.
I especially like your plans to make the 'half-elf' template your low elves. I never really liked the thought of two different species creating off-spring although I know the concept has been in fantasy since the dawn of time. The idea of elves being able to birth part human is like a cat giving birth to cat-dogs. Exaggerated yes, but this is how I view the subject personally. Still, I recognize its importance & fantastical ties and have kept it in my games as I see you did as well.
Look forward to seeing more.

4712 – Year 2 Sarenith (June)
The summer is in full swing and the crops are growing at a rapid rate giving promise to an excellent harvest. The lands are alive with life, as humanoids and animals alike leisurely bask in the heat and soaking in the sun’s rays.
Lathom’s journeys to the larger cities have spread the rumor of this quiet little town. This rumor has caught the ear of many, especially the three new families whom look to build a home for themselves. Arriving at varying times during the month are the following three families:
Richards family – Consists of the father, Fredrick, his wife, Margaret, and their three children.
Betts family – Consists of the grandfather, Gregory, his daughter, Florence, and her half-elven son, Theo.
Kapinski family – Traveling from a far eastern kingdom, this well-armed family consists of 3 middle aged males, 3 middle aged females, and 5 children. They only have a small grasp on the Common language and keep to themselves.
The Richards family, arriving in the beginning of the month, had enough time to manufacture some sort of living space from the material around the village. The Betts family, not well off but unable to manufacture a home for themselves, had paid several villagers in gold and valuables to help construct their home. Meanwhile, the Kapinski family had enough gold to pay for villager help, as well as enough laborers in their immediate family to construct a rather large villa.
The woman Devin was taken care off had slowly become less interesting as time wore on. Jasper Vellsking was still obsessed, just lost time with helping the townspeople construct the new homes. On the second to last day of the month, the woman awoke. It was late at night when she had jolted awake screaming. Devin, whom has at this time rushed to her aid, was fearful of his own life, as the woman sat up and began to frantically search for her belongings. In a fury of movement, the woman was out the door, and gone, muttering to herself that she needed to “warn the kingdom” of something or other.
This event has cause quite of panic, as most of the townspeople have interpreted Devin’s account of the night differently. Someone also had made it a point to plant Zucchini in the field recently cleared away by the Ironnose family.

This bloodline is my favorite simply because of raw power. I am not one to min-max characters and I usually play a character that fits into games but this particular bloodline really appeals to the inner power hungry side of me.
Anyway, I took the above idea and did a bit differently. Each number (on the d6) refers to a particular ‘manifestation tree,’ which if you were lucky to roll the same number more than once, will have a relatively same manifestation. So to reiterate, all 1s are the same manifestation just intensified. They do not replace each-other, just help build off one another. The reason is simple. As this bloodline levels up it just increases in power so it made sense to base the manifestations off of level and not the particular bloodline ability.
**As a note. The term *light* is used a lot in these manifestations. Let me be clear. It is not in any way reflective of a photon particle. These power lights do not emit light. In fact, in daylight, they appear bright but in darkness, they appear as black voids. Whatever color of light is prevalent in the current setting reflects on the Arcane light. Darkvision cannot see this manifestation nor should these manifestations make perception check vs the Arcane bloodline easier.
Arcane
D6 Arcane Bond Manifestation
1 - Small streaks of light appear around you at all times, blinking into existence, zipping around your body, and then winking out.
2 - While casting a spell, tiny glyphs appear on your body, especially within your irises. Furthermore, you see these glyphs at all times, even if they are not there. This is reflective of your knowledge of spells (in my games I have an ancient Magic language that is written in glyphs and such).
3 - Periodically throughout the day, your veins glow with light as arcane power races throughout your body. It happens very quickly, and usually travels away from your center (shoulder to elbow to hand).
4 - While casting a spell, gravity ceases to function normally, as you lift slowly off the ground. Upon completion of the spell, you instantly drop back down, as do your possessions, hair, and anything else that could have drifted away from you (including familiar if chosen). Anything attached to you lifts; therefore there is no need to worry about something not attached to your drifting away (except familiar).
5 - When a successful knowledge check is made, you speak in the language of magic, as if the arcane itself has delivered the knowledge to you. If you do not speak the knowledge check out loud, then you simply know in your mind which language the information was stored in.
6 - Periodically throughout the day, you become slightly attractive (not in the physical, opposite sex sense). Objects drift over to you for only the briefest of seconds, never more than an inch or two.
D6 Metamagic Adept
1 - Crackles on light, similar to an erupting fire burst, blink in an out of existence around your body.
2 - When casting spells, shimmering glyphs of unknown languages appear hovering around your body. These glyphs appear in perfect horizontal bands and slowly rotate around you.
3 - Periodically throughout the day, your entire body pulsates with light as arcane power charges within you. It happens very quickly, and usually manifests brightly before fading.
4 - While casting a spell, you are surrounded by a torrent of light. These specks of light begin on the ground and race upwards, never in any other direction.
5 - While casting a spell that uses Visual and Somatic components: Your hand movements leave a trail of light and your voice deepens and echoes. Your voice does not go up nor down any decibels, just simply deepens and echoes.
6 - Periodically throughout the day, you repel objects. Any small object in close proximity to you slides away as if pushed/pulled slightly. This distance is no more than one or two inches.
D6 New Arcana
1 - Larger streaks of light orbit your person, staying in existence much longer than previous versions. Before these streaks of light wink out of existence, they erupt in a brilliant burst, traveling a distance as if on fire, and then vanish
2 - When casting spells, A large shimmering glyph of unknown languages appears a foot in front of you. This glyph slowly rotates during the casting of the spell and usually appears with a circular intricate border.
3 - You gain an Arcane fingerprint, which essentially leaves any area you touch aglow for a few seconds after releasing. When you walk, arcane footprints are left behind. When you touch objects, arcane points of light remain behind. This light slowly dissipates and vanishes after a period of time.
4 - While casting a spell, large globes of light rapidly twirl around you. These orbs are not light similar to previous manifestations, but in fact translucent balls with light inside of them. If one were to peer into these balls, they would see a torrent of movement, as if a miniature vortex were contained inside.
5 - While you cast spells with Visual components, your hand becomes entombed in a disk of light. This light sits at the wrist and expands out for several inches. Depending on the hand movements, this disk of light can tilt and turn to appear in various ways.
6 - Arcane energy manifests itself in an awkward field that emanates from you. This field often irritates most animals and humanoids. The energy irks the skin, makes hairs stand up on end and pushes slightly on that person. It’s an awkward indescribable force that tickles the nervous system. For all game related purposes, this field should not do anything to shift starting attitudes, but rather, reflect the pure power of the fielded person.
D6 School Power
1 - Your body has numerous points of light that ‘jump’ from place to place. These lights are numerous and small but they bounce along your skin as if you were rubber. Occasionally, larger portions of light manifest, bouncing down an arm, or a leg.
2 - When casting spells, A large shimmering glyph of unknown languages appears on the ground underneath you. This glyph slowly rotates during the casting of the spell and usually appears around a circular intricate border.
3 – Your skin appears translucent to better reflect the pulsing power within you, and your eyes glow. Furthermore, all pigment drained from your skin has bleached your hair as well, leaving it white despite age.
4 – While casting a spell, your vision is filled with visions of the past, present, and future, as the arcane energy warps the space-time fabric. These visions do not aid in knowledge checks, but help to illustrate the divination side of the arcane.
5 - While casting a spell, bands of light appear around your body. These bands of light are perfect circles, appear at varying distances from origin, and usually spearing solidified. If your person also has the glyph manifestation, these bands of light appear between the rotating glyphs.
6 – A noticeable field warps light when looking at you. You are surrounded by a faint buffer of arcane energy that causes you to shimmer in light. Paired up with other manifestations, this field interacts interesting with everything.
D4 Arcane Apotheosis Pick a single level 3 or lower manifestation in addition.
1 - You gain erratic arcane manifestations. It manifests in three ways; large super-fast floating orbs, erratically jumping points of power and large flare bursts. The first manifestation, large orbs of light, zip behind you when you walk as well as launch away from you as you stand still. They travel around you at intense speeds. The balls of power manifest as a bouncing point of light, which follows you as you walk, as well as erratically hopping around you as you stand still. The final manifestation is like a miniature explosion. These flare bursts of moderate size explode around you and trail you as you walk (think of a walking firework).
2 - The arcane energy in your body is hard to contain. This manifestation is extremely erratic and often times your body remains aglow. Sometimes tendrils of power illuminate your body similar to lightning. Other times your body strobes. Furthermore, it’s as if the Prestidigitation spell is continuously at work, cleaning your body, stirring movement in your clothing and hair, lifting objects around you to hover.
3 - While casting a spell, a torrent of arcane particles creates a singularity, sort of a vacuum in and around you (it does not rip space and time, simply creates a bubble in it). This void alters space and time, warping visible light and sound. While casting, observers looking into your ‘bubble’ view you has if looking through a warped mirror. When casting is complete, the void dissipates and rapidly refocuses existence around you.
4 - Arcane energy manifests in a ‘sound’ which rattles anything around you, glass, metals, tables. You sound like a walking tornado/earthquake/train. This extremely low frequency makes the very air itself ‘hum’ and intensifies when spells are used. In a physics sense, the arcanum does not interact with air molecules. The humming can be felt not heard, and the sorcerer has control over its output, which is important for in game mechanics
To Sunbeam: Keep on the Borderlands looks awesome! Thanks for pointing that out! I did not know that existed. Now I just have to find some of the material so I can get a feel for it...
To Kamelguru: Thanks for the advice. This is very helpful as well. Some knee jerk questions. When you state
“But, be aware that they will likely also spot the inherent discrepancies in power in the game. They will notice if someone is unfairly powerful compared to others, and will not easily understand why one is allowed to do something another is not. It is often very important that things are "fair".”
Does this mean I am discouraged from using powerful enemies? Is it not a good idea to have stronger NPCs that can’t be taken out by just brute force?
As for the minor rewards example, that actually gave me some plot hook ideas. Another question I have is how to encourage teamwork especially with siblings.
Okay that helps. I have been doing it right this entire time. I guess I kept re-reading the rules and it got to the point where I was misinterpreting things.
You are right, I apologize. But posting the animal companion stat block and telling me to re read the rules is not help.
You offer no help. I already understand all of this for the most part. Post somewhere else

I stuck this in advice because the rule question I have is a minor one and I feel that the advice I need is a bit more pressing. Sorry moderators if this has to get shifted over to the rules thread.
With that said, hello everyone! I hope you all had a great holiday season and I want to type a big ‘thanks’ in advance for any advice and comments to come.
So let’s dive right into the more pressing issue: I need help with location, mini-dungeons, and event ideas! I am running a homebrew campaign that is mostly exploration based that uses the Kingmaker hex idea as well as the Landmark, Standard, and Hidden locations idea but without kingdom building. My players will be able to clear ‘the fog of war’ so to speak. As they explore hexes, the hex will become ‘unshaded’ and they will be able to see the terrain on the ‘world map’ (I should state now that the world map will just be a huge map I created in Illustrator and Photoshop and the hexes will just be layers that I delete as they explore). As the players explore, the area unravels. Simple enough right?
I need ideas for the minor location events similar to those that can be found throughout the Kingmaker AP. Without spoiling too much, I am referring to the Landmark, Standard and Hidden locations that can be unearthed by exploring the hexes. I am struggling to come up with ideas for these minor landmarks, whether it be encounters, mini dungeons or puzzles.
Since my PCs will be 1-2 level when they begin the exploration portion of the game, I am looking for some minor events that can be used as puzzles and minor quests to gain xp. The random encounters for the explored area are a bit high, so I do need them to gain XP from a secondary source (exploration).
The setting: PCs are exploring a region of land to the north of the kingdom called “the Cathills” for the ridiculous amount of mountain lions. This land is filled with orcs, goblins and a ton of fey oriented creatures but little in the terms of playable characters save Gnomes. The deeper they go, the increasingly savage it gets. I guess, in a sense, it resembles The Stolen Lands however mostly hills and colder temperature. My PCs: I have a paladin, a ranger, a bard, and a druid. Religion in my game is important, but I have my own homebrew non alignment oriented gods. All of the PCs worship one goddess while most of the creatures in the Cathills worship a different god. The potential for the paladin to do some crusading is already obvious.
I am GMing for a buddy and his two kids, a 13 year old boy and a 10 year old girl. Paladin and Druid are both 13 and 10 years old respectively. This is their first time playing pen and paper and it’s safe to say I rocked their socks with the first adventure. We played for 12 straight hours and the kids did not want to stop. Now, I noticed that with children, they do not know much about character classes to role play properly, so I have seen their ‘true colors’ so to speak. The son is obsessed with saving his butt and finding gold as well as thinks the entire adventure can be played like a World of Warcraft quest line. Now, this is not very paladin like so I do not know how to approach this subject at all. The daughter, the druid, plays her character strong CG, but doesn’t get the whole, protect and preserve nature. I need additional advice from the dads in this community for when it come to GMing for children. Ideas to have them except and RP their characters, and keeping them entertained.
Now for my rule question: The above druid has a Big Cat animal companion. I am a bit confused on how the attacks work. I know this is a newb question but I have no prior 3.5 experience. For one, the cat has a bite and 2 claws. Does this mean the cat can make a full attack? If so what is the bite and claws attack bonus (are the claws considered secondary weapons?)? I might be over thinking this but does 2 claws mean the cat is able to attack with a bite, claw, claw? Or do 2 claws basically mean 1 attack with the cats 2 claws?
The first game I quickly house ruled and began allowing the cat a full attack similar to how a PC would get if it had Two-Weapon Fighting but did not penalize the claws. Also, each claw was a separate dice rolls so she rolled 3 for a full attack. I told the group that I will be coming back with an update on the rules so she is prepared for some changes.
So thanks again for things to come.
As a note: if you play in the Girzon evil team, watch out for your own team mates to kill you or leave you for dead. Both lasting players are extremely hypocritical and difficult to play with.
Furthermore, come over to the good side, where we have complimentary snacks and pastries. Oh, we also do not team kill nor do we act like adolescent children.
I am BANNED for BANNING myself.

I have submitted an app to join your game with the age clause written in. I was thinking maybe fighter/Cleric of a god within your world. Maybe Gizron himself, or something else. I was looking at the War, and Law domains and be either LE or LN. If not cleric, then maybe just straight warrior.
I am interested as to why you do not include relationships in your games. Do you not include relatonships for NPC's either? Does love and relationships not exist in your worlds? I can understand for PC's but you do not have a bickering couple attending the towns favorite tavern?

I have an idea for side intrigue that could mix up the plot a bit.
If the headmaster is a male maybe have his wife coming along. If not the headmaster, then have the husband NPC be someone the players favor, like the arms dealer or some such, just be sure to include a wife. For the sake of explanation, the wife will be NPC A and the husband will be NPC B.
Now make a third character whom the players might like as well. For instances, maybe a young upstart mercenary guard that befriends a PC, or for more adult themes, a younger woman who takes a fancy to a male PC. Let this character be NPC C
With some intrigue and diplomacy checks, maybe the PC's start hearing rumors about the Wife, NPC A, being involved with the male, NPC C. This could erupt some internal conflict between all parties involved. In all actuality, the hidden spy is NPC B, the husband. If done correctly, PC's will feel sorry and favor NPC B because his wife is fooling around with another man or woman.
The best place to look for rumors is with the wife, NPC B. She will know her husband is a spy and that is why she is leaving him for NPC C, but the PC's might never think to look there. Cause she is a lying, cheating, philanderer.
They will never see it coming. Thoughts?
I would be interested in playing a Cleric of Cayden Cailean. I have an account over at myth weavers as well, and I think I might have applied for your game when you were originally were recruiting. I will start building the character over on that website and give you a heads up when I am finished
EDIT: I noticed the cleric that left was of Cayden Cailean so I will switch to Abadar. Human LN.
I would love to play. LoF is an awesome AP. Something fighter-ish tho if that pregen is available.
yea, site is down since monday I believe. Dang, i was liking this game
I am interested in doing a cleric of cayden cailean. I will post on the recruitment thread when I get my character all nice and done up
I am interested in making a cleric. I have been following the PbP since the start if you do recall. I would be interested in a Cleric of Cayden Cailean that wields rapier. CG Domains: Travel, Charm
The world is built on grammar mistakes a typos
that sounds awesome. I am excited for when my players reach the battle market. As of now they are just about to start clearing out the town. I am nervous about my parties Paladin. He is pretty high AC and is sort of feeling.. indestructible.. and Lady Almah is in love with him (he rolled 20's on his diplomacy checks on her, and she rolled 20's for knowledge checks and sense motive checks. Love at first sight)...
I'd feel bad about reporting this particular company. Its a company that sells books to teachers and children. And I do see past my anger, I am just trying to let you readers know of some personal examples of how this law effects everyday people like you and me, and the impact illegals have.
I agree with the above post completely. As mentioned, I live and work in AZ. I was laid off due to not having enough work at my former employment. currently four illegal immigrants work at my former employment. One is actually routinely coming in drunk and missing work due to jail time (he beats his wife) yet my former employment does not fire him due to his acceptance of low pay and doing the jobs others wont do. I expect the next time he hits his wife, he wont be there no more...

I agree in the sense that this is just another one of those laws that empowers the police force. Its one those laws where police are allowed to pull over someone that the suspect is up to 'no good' based off a broken tail light, or not wearing a seat belt, its just in this case its the color of their skin. The law states
"1. Requires a reasonable attempt to be made to determine the immigration status of a person during any legitimate contact made by an official or agency of the state or a county, city, town or political subdivision (political subdivision) if reasonable suspicion exists that the person is an alien who is unlawfully present in the U.S."
&
"5. Allows a law enforcement officer, without a warrant, to arrest a person if the officer has probable cause to believe that the person has committed any public offense that makes the person removable from the U.S."
With that said what is a 'reasonable attempt' is defined as, as I see it, up to that particular law enforcer whom is doing the inquiring. Furthermore, an officer needs probable cause to suspect the person committed a public offense. It is the same as AZ's DUI law. They need probable cause to believe you are drunk driving. If an illegal was caught being illegal without papers, the case may still get thrown out in court if the illegal proves the officer did not have probable cause to ask about his immigration status. This prevents the whole "hey you walking down the street! Show my your papers!" If the officer believe's the person committed a crime, and they look to be illegal (by color of skin so be it) then he can ask to see papers. It does not turn into a harassment factor until the person is suspect of breaking the law to begin with. Do not break the law, you will not get deported.
I find this law to be a huge step. I like it. I think it is needed. AZ took a step that no other state has done. Furthermore, now that AZ stood up for itself, tons of states are looking to follow suit.
Article on other Attempts
Being illegal is illegal plain and simple. They do not belong here. I am happy that Arizona is doing something Obama has promised he would do on his election run. It is about time the state steps in and does something where the federal government fails.
With that being said, I live in AZ. I know of countless illegals. Some are great people. Others are not. I do not feel remorse if they have to leave the country. Not in the slightest. I will be a father soon, and I cant find work because an illegal is willing to do it cheaper. I have lived back east most my life and the difference is apparent. viva los 1070
Im excited, I want to play
We are fast becoming 1 play group. I am all set with my character,
To edit my character, I click edit document and then what.. post in the big white "Post Reply" box? do I mess around with the drop down boxes located around the edit document button? One is view template and edit template.
Its very cumbersome and slow. I am trying to figure out how I can upload my character :/ I changed its name and now it wont let me in.
I am doing Skill rank.. :/ we lost our healer!
Garret's backstory really doesnt have room for me. I like it tho. Your stroy is solid but my character can fit in to it :/ maybe someone else from within our group is interested in having a half-orc mercenary that uses Bolas and a falchion?
Done! Waiting for approval at Roleplay market. I am familiar with Pathfinder and their rules, just not the PbP method of playing. Reading your above post it looks like we are doing a 20 point buy? I'll go ahead and make my character sometime tonight after the hockey game (Go Flyers!).
I signed up for roleplaymarket as well. Shot you a message via that site. Looking forward to playing. Oh, and for Garret "Sledge" Whitestone: Half-Orc Rogue I was wondering if you wanted to come up with a cool back story since Ill be a half-orc as well.
Seeing as it is my first time with PbP, I would like to play something rather simple for me (fighter class). I guess we will be sucking down potions and relying on the Oracle. Since we plan to play on that different website, how should I go about setting up my character? Is it similar to this website in which I put the character in my profile? Ill sign up for an account today after I finish some things and check it out for myself. Thanks
Am I able to make a high AC fighter or do we need some extra healing?
I will be interested to play however I am a bit new to PbP, not pathfinder rule set or character creation.I am not shy at Role play as well. If there is room for me please consider. I will check this thread often
M Human Level 2 Adept
I have read your PbP from page 1 and want to say that it is one awesome read. If it is improper for me to jump in here and post I apologize but I wanted to voice my pleasure in this read. Furthermore, is there a thread where I can brush up on the rules? I was interesting in playing one of these Play by Posts. I have the general gist down from watching and reading your adventure. Id like to say that your styles mesh very well, and Lucendar is a great DM.. Again, keep up the great stuff.
