I'd like to add my thanks too. To echo Graah!'s words, I'd roll a very different character now, having played some of the module - as I found my skills on the peripherary of the action once early roles were set. It seemed that when Graah! and I went off piste, we had to get back on the official run quickly as we made no progress.
I'd definitely play up the mass combat element in subsequent recruitment - and encourage characters to be created with this in mind.
Regardless, I had fun and thanks for allowing me into your world for as long as it lasted.
Corvus runs to where the action is. She looks around for some higher ground, drawing her short-bow at the same time.
Perception to find vantage point above ground: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29
Having missed out on the early interaction with the soldiers, Corvus would be keen to take a tour of the fort.
Corvus looks between the group. "It's a plan, and therefore one plan more than anyone else has come up with. I could help spread the rumour without causing suspicion."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
As Corvus and Graah! weren't involved in the preliminary investigating (we were off flying around) I feel Corvus would be on the periphery of the sleuthing. If someone wants to bring Corvus up to speed on what's been discovered so far, I'd enjoy asking questions with my good buddy.
I've been checking in daily but we're at a point where I'm being reactive rather than proactive, so it's been difficult to post without anythign to play off.
motteditor wrote: Sorry, guys, work's a bit busy for the next week or so leading into Thanksgiving (so to Dec. 1). Will try to post daily still, but if I miss a day or two, please don't think I've forgotten you/disappeared. Thanks for letting us know.
All this talk of magic goes above Corvus' head. She therefore listens and waits for direction.
Corvus helps Dyalg solve the mysery of the broken catapults the best she can.
Perception (Find Traps): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26
Corvus looks to her comrades. "For what it's worth, you already knew this was sabotage. But I'd add that it wasn't done by any of the men here. We have a traitor to find."
Corvus' eyes run over the machines. For one to misfire was an accident, for both to misfire was planned.
Corvus looks for signs of either subtle sabotage (performed by someone most likely not present) or wilful damage (someone here did on purpose knowing they were likely to die anyway).
Perception to find traps: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17
The lack of noise from the catapults, added to the sounds of screams is all it takes for Corvus to run to the towers, alongside Galvrin and Dyalg.
Nothing specifc under the circumstances
"That counts as something else in my mind! How do we make sure it doesn't affect us and should we go now?"
The excitement in her voice is evident and the gleam in her eye says she's up for some mischief.
As the others head off to find a bed, Corvus speaks to Graah1 alone.
"What do you think Graah!? Do we keep watch for a while or get some rest? Not sure what you think about us all going to sleep at the same time? Or do you have something else in mind?"
Corvus shakes her head as they head back. "I know I've said it already but it's not...orcish...is it?"
"I wonder if Graah! and I should take a look at where this Mother Hagna might be?"
Corvus speaks to Illa. "I don't understand why they don't just carry on? They have numerical superiority so this is out of character. They want or need something - most likely something in the fort - or they are escaping fromsomething and we're in their way."
500 feet is a long distance to be having a conversation over. You'd have to talk very loudly to get up to 25m. We're talking about 150m. It would take Usain Bolt 15 seconds to run between us! Not saying we shouldn't shout - but be aware we are shouting - and I'm wasting my time looking for nuances in body language. #justsaying
Edit - just done the maths (how sad am I) and a normal voice would sound like a leaf rustling at 150m
Corvus remaines tight-lipped - and keeps a watchful eye on Graah! She will let the others do the talking and will instead focus on the body-language and mannerisms of the orcs - checking if what their mouths are saying matches what their bodies are saying.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
"Not sure I want to talk to the orcs, unless they're volunteering to kill each other and save us the ammunition. Except that wouldn't be any fun. What about you little buddy?". Corvus looks at Graah! for advice.
Corvus keeps a watchful eye on Graah! inwardly pleased that others are sticking up for him. When you've been around a goblin for long enough, it's easy to forget how others might view him, so she makes a conscious effort to not let him out of her sight.
She smiles at the bravado of the guards. Turning to Galvrin she says, "Any guard that would stand up to you doesn't need his bravery testing."
Her intention is not to undermine Galvrin but to ensure the situation doesn't escalate.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Graah! wrote: When Illa makes mention of her idea, Graah!'s head swivels around to regard her. Catching on to her meaning right away, his wide face splits into an evil looking grin. Corvus knows that grin well and hopes it has everything to do with Illa's suggestion and nothing to do with the crimson dust.
Corvus keeps a watchful eye on Graah!, looking for anything that looks out of the ordinary for him - or that looks familiar when he's preparing for combat.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
Knowing Graah! as she does, Corvus is on her guard. It'll take more than handing over his bow for him to be defenceless - plus goblins ar adept at improvising weapons from almost anything.
Graah! wrote: New to the scene, Graah! tries to look into the room by crouching and peering under the collective legs of those in front.
"Tindakan kanggo mangan ana ing?"

Before Corvus can respond to Graah!, Galvrin shares his news. She looks at the goblin. "Wonder if it works on goblins too? Trouble is, if it does, I don't want to be around to find out."
Corvus looks at Illa and Galvrin, one eyebrow raised. "We've been a little busy." She indicates that the 'we' includes Graah! "What did we miss?"

Just to say that after today (my time) my posting will be sporadic for the next three days. Saturday and Sunday are always my slowest days – I tend to post mostly in the evenings.
Monday is my wife’s birthday, so expect zero posts and then I’m full steam ahead again from Tuesday morning. Thanks for your patience.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
Corvus keeps an eye on the skies, as Graah! asks, allowing him to focus on the ground.
Graah! wrote: Leaning in close to speak with his partner over the whipping wind, Graah! asks, "Apa kita ngenteni dicokot kanggo korban becik, utawa mung murub kreto sawetara lan rampung karo?"

Corvus shrugs her shoulders before realising Graah! can't see. "Random destruction seems like fun - unless something exciting presents itself. It's your call buddy."
Corvus is enjoying the view...
Corvus gives back her wickedest grin. "Do we look the sort that leave messages? I'm sure someone will notice us both heading off on Tasty Chicken."
After pausing for a split second she adds, "Are we going or what?"
Graah!'s arrivals couldn't have been better timed. Ensuring her voice was loud enough for the young soldier to hear, Corvus replies. "You betcha I'm up for killing some more orcs- I'm a gal of action, not talking."
She then turns to the young soldier. "See you later kid."
Corvus scoffs as the soldier mentions dying.
Shaking her head, she keeps a smile on her lips"You heard the elf. We're not going to die. Do you think we'd come here if there was a chance of that? Of course not. You see Graah! up there?" Corvus points at the goblin, atop the crenelations. "I've lost count of the number of orcs we've killed together. More than this pitiful collection that tries to pass as an army. Nope, me and Graah! are here to kick some orc butt, and you're welcome to any we may miss - but I don't expect that'll be many."
Again, Corvus plays it straight and hopes the words will satisfy the young woman.
I went with woman as the soldier changed sex mid-way through the conversation!
Corvus is stuck between staying with Graah! and following the others. In the end, her bond with the little goblin is too strong and she loiters where she can keep him in view.
She stops the first soldier that walks past and asks, "So what did happen here? I've been here a while and killed some orcs but as yet, I don't know why this all kicked off." She doesn't look to influence the soldier and instead hopes the simple approach will pay dividends.
GM - I'm aware we are splitting up and not sure if this works for you or not. Are you OK for us all to do our own thing or should we try to keep together?
Graah! wrote: Graah! leans over and whispers to Corvus, "Aku pengin ngerti manawa perwira duwe tindakan penting cukup kanggo menehi prentah anyar..."

Corvus shakes her head at Graah! "There's a time and a place buddy - and this isn't the time or the place. These guys are edgy enough without us looting their former comrades."
"But I do want to be doing something. Standing here on this wall with nothing to do is losing its appeal. What do you say we start asking questions about this recent loss of officers?"
Still here but I'm not going to post for the sake of it as I'm not sure what value I van add at this stage.
Corvus watches Graah! disappear into the sky before finding the most nervous looking soldier nearby. She hands him one of her arrows
"Short term I need more of these as I'm going up there," she points at the ramparts. "Longer term, ask your fletcher if he can make up some for me just like these."
Corvus hands the startled young man 20gp and one of her arrows. Broadly the same as any other arrow but it has black flights and the shaft is stained matt black.
With that, she heads to the ramparts to make use of her remaining arrows.
motteditor wrote: Probably should have asked earlier, but is everyone familiar with the mass combat rules?
Nope, but I'm a quick learner...
Corvus nods at Graah! "I hear you buddy."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
"We bring word from Leddyn Howell. We met him en route to give Lord General Wyvern a message and he wanted us to tell you he'd got through - although his partner was sadly not so fortunate. We have a note in our possession that will prove this message was from Leddyn." Corvus smiles broadly at the end of her little speeech - to hopefully put the icing on the cake.
"How did I do buddy?" she whispers to Graah! the smile never leaving her lips.
Not sure if I'm going more motherly than brotherly with Graah!?
Corvus sucks in air through her teeth - a habit that denotes she's thinking about something that's proving troublesome.
"Graah! buddy, I think we'd better go with the party this time. As much as I'd like to kick some orc butt all by ourselves, I think we'd kill more by sticking together. You OK with that?"
She looks at Graah! ruefully, as if she fears she may have offended him - her eyes imploring him not to be upset.
"Thanks for that buddy, and I was just about to ask him that anyway." Corvus turns to Leddyn. "Do the orcs have many other flyers?"
Corvus smiles sarcastically at Graah! "And please don't remind me of your eating habits."
Corvus turns to the rest of the group now. "You don't want to ask, trust me, you're better off not knowing."
"Half a day's ride and goodness knows how many day's walking." Corvus throws a look at Graah! "Just don't say anything, I'm not in the mood. OK?"
Corvus just shakes her head good-naturedly at Graah! "I'm as anxious to kill some orcs as you are - but I'd like to know more - if there's more to know."
Corvus gives Illa a scathing look.
Positioning herself so she is facing Graah! but with her back to Illa, she speaks. "I am certainly not putting any part of that thing in my mouth! You're on our own there buddy. And what part looks like cchicken anyway? And yes, we're hunting orc - I thought you'd be pleased."
Corvus turns back to face Leddyn, making it apparent she's expecting an answer.
Corvus throws a knowing look at Graah! "Orc scum? Count us in, eh buddy?"
Turning her attention to the rider, her voice softens. "Tell us Leddyn, why would orcs be attacking the garrison and not go after easier prey?"
Corvus continues to fire arrows, paying no heed to the near miss from the creature's antlers - more worried about the rider and his horse.
