HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

There is an irony for one who followed the light to die in darkness...Perhaps she had a twin? Just kidding Poulain, before you start to worry.

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

HP at the end of the three checks is 0

Being underwater is disorientating enough. Add choppy water and darkness (it's 60 feet down) and finding the surface again is a major challenge, let alone finding another person.

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Corvus continues to fight with the creature, trying to break free.

1d20 ⇒ 16

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

As she hits the water, Corvus realises the predicament she is in. She's no swimmer and she's weighed down by armour too.

Frantically she tries to break free from the creature.

1d20 ⇒ 9

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Realising the creature is now holding her, Corvus attempts to break free.

Break grapple check 1d20 ⇒ 4

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Corvus takes a split second to compose herself before launching at the attacker once more, her blade building up speed until it's a blur.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 231d6 ⇒ 3

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Corvus is still reeling from the attacks but instinct kicks in and she let's loose with her sword again, at the same attacker.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 121d6 ⇒ 4

Once her action is complete, Corvus suffers 1HP - down to 3HP now

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

By adding up properly, I also get 0HP

Corvus reels from the blows and is aware she could lose consciousness at any moment. Calling softly to her god, she prays for healing.

Lay on Hands 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

My bad on the HP - my adding up needs some work.

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Based on the rolls classified as hits, Corvus is on negative hit points now

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Acting on instinct, Corvus draws her sword and launches an attack on the closest creature in one fluid motion.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 181d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Corvus will look to remain above deck - like Poulain (did I say that!) she wants to be able to see what's going on.

Corvus does not try to feign interest in the machine. She continues to smile politely at the dwarf but lets the boys play with the machine!

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Corvus smiles politely at the dwarf. "Pleased to meet you. My name is Corvus and I am honoured to be travelling on this marvel of engineering."

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

I'm good to move forward

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Corvus listens to the banter and keeps quiet. This seems a more straightforward situation. Defending doesn't sound like it'll complicate my vows and perhaps I can be of more value than I have been to date.

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Corvus immediately tags along with Angelo.

Her face looks troubled and before they've gone too far, she confides in him. "This all feels a bit random and disjointed to me. I hoped my god had a plan for me, a path for me to follow. I feel lost and wonder if she's found me wanting.". She immediately blushes and coughs, her eyes not leaving the ends of her feet as she walks alongside her companion.

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

"Eloquent as ever. We should head over there straight away."

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Corvus nods her approval to Yoshiyaru. We should seek her out immediately.

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Just to remind everyone, if you want me to change character now, I will work on some alternatives. Either a fighter or a cavalier would fill broadly the same role and I could keep much of Corvus' back-story.

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Corvus follows the group, seeming rather distracted. Despite ridding the land of the evil in the cave, she's not so sure why she's here and what purpose her God has in mind for her.

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

"I for one am in agreement. We have done what needed t be done.

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Corvus lights the fire at the foot of the totem and in a clear and soft tone says, "Let this fire be a physical manifestation of the goddess of the sun, redemption, honesty and healing.  You are the Healing Flame, and the Everlight. You teach us  temperance and patience in all things but there are those who have no interest in redemption and these deserve nothing but swift justice.  Please be our guiding light into the darkest hearts and lands."

Her voice quavers slightly as she finishes the final sentence.

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Corvus smiles at Angelo. "I don't even have a tinderbox to use, but I can provide some appropriate words."

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Corvus stops attacking the totem, her moves slowing gracefully until she comes to a complete stop.

Turnings Faruq, she says, " Nothing magical. I tend to focus on living things not lumps of wood." With that she shrugs and looks around for flammable items.

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

In the absence of anything more practical, Corvus will now start to hack at the totem

Corvus sees the Druid drop to the floor and now turns her attention fully on the totem. In a trance like state, she swings and whirls her blade, looking to deal the maximum damage to the totem.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 61d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Corvus continues her assault on the Druid, her blade spinning and slashing as she looks for the perfect opening.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 151d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

In that case...

Corvus closes on the Druid, holy prayers on her lips. Her swordwork is mesmerising, as she spins and swirls before unleashing an attack.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 241d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

EDIT

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Corvus continues to advance on the druid until she is within striking range. She ignores everything else in her way.

The map suggests she is not near the Druid yet

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Still here. When it comes to replacing our lost comrade, we should discuss properly if this is a campaign for a Paladin. If not, I can change character at that juncture.

Still here...

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Corvus targets the white girallon with Smite Evil

Corvus moves towards the white girallon, grasping her holy symbol in her left hand and audibly reciting a verse from 'The Birth of Light and Truth.' There is a burning passion in her eyes and her focus is absolute.

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Before I do anything next round, I want to make sure what's possible. In relation to the Totem, I need to know if I can Smite Evil? I presume the Totem would have to 'be' evil as opposed to an enchanted object. If so, I presume that destroying it will equate to it dying?

And finally, would the deflection bonus count against its effects?

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

I will presume than Angelo swaps places with Corvus, enabling her to enter the attack

Corvus focuses on the closest adversary. Her movement starts as rhythmic steps but soons turns into an elaborate dance. Except that she holds a scimitar that creates a glow of light, so fast is it moving. Her movement is entrancing and at once, she is on the closest attacker, her blade now singing as it moves.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 161d6 ⇒ 5

There have been some interesting posts of late.  To clarify a few points...

1. Yoshiyaru asked for a warrior to stay back and defend the archers.  Corvus volunteered and was accepted.  That is not the same as not wishing to participate.  Corvus is ready to step in as soon as something comes close.  Or she can switch places with another character as Angelo suggests.

2. It is not that Corvus doesn't want to get involved. She won't draw first blood without provocation - and so won't take an attack of opportunity.  Nor will she simply wade in to fight if the opponent is not being hostile - and that includes animals. That's what Paladins do, "they adhere to ironclad laws of morality and discipline.". I fact, if I role-play outside of my stated moral code, the GM will ensure Corvus loses all paladin spells and class features.

3. If you think that a role-played paladin won't work in this scenario, then I can choose a different character or you can get a different PC.  It's up to you guys.

My reading of the map is that there is nothing Corvus can swing at unless she deserts her post. On that basis, she will sit tight - delaying her move until necessary

Corvus is with the archers, sword in hand

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Corvus smiled a satisfied smile. "This is almost too easy. Poulain, the ignorant creature I refer to is you. You are the one I have been sent to change or smite. I see it now."

Corvus seems serene now, her previous agitation gone. Instead a rather annoying smug and self-satisfied look plays across her beautiful face.

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Corvus glares at Poulain. "Do not test my patience. My code is clear...I will redeem the ignorant with my words and my actions. If they will not turn toward the light, I will redeem them by the sword. Even one as ignorant as you cannot help but understand the implication. If you have nothing civil to say to me, I bid you say nothing."

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Corvus shakes her head. "Followers of evil are not necessarily evil themselves. I will fight them to their death but I will not draw first blood. If that means. Have to guard the archers then so be it."

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

"I for one would appreciate knowing more about what we are up against. Are these creatures for turning from their chosen path? Evil must be opposed, but all options should be explored."

She then turns to Yoshiyaru. "And of course, any information about Angazhani's whereabouts would be appreciated.

I have Internet at home again...woohoo

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Taking Angelo at his word, Corvus starts to give each of the vessels a check for activity - remaining on the riverbank at all times.

As Corvus is not in any immediate danger, I plan to Take 10. She's not looking for anything hidden - rather she's checking for any ongoing 'mischief.'

"Angelo, salvage is something we can discuss when those rescued are spoken to. For the moment, everything remains in the boats." She flourishes her rapier, performing one of the forms of the dervish dance to punctuate her words.

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Corvus steals a glance at at Mem'basi and the leopard before following Angelo. "Why do I mistrust your motives on this issue?"

Despite her protest, she keeps in step with him as they return to the cave's mouth.

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Taking no notice of Angelo initially, Corvus falls into step alongside Poulain. Her face does not show any trace of emotion and her voice is calm but melodic. ”I am obliged to show patience in all things and that must extend to you. I am also bound to deliver swift justice to ensure my foes do not suffer any longer than necessary. There is no pride for my parents in that – simply the knowledge that I do my god’s work."

"I must confess that I find your lack of faith troubling. To respond to violence with swift metal is part of my code. To initiate combat before other paths are considered is wrong. Over time I expect to show you the error in your ways."

She then turns to Angelo. "What now?"

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Stowing her bow, Corvus drew her scimitar and moved towards the alcove and prepared to follow Yoshiyaru.

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Just to say I have no Internet at home - it's been intermittent for a few weeks and now it has given up altogether. They're not sure how long it will take to fix. So turns are limited to when I can get to a wifi site.

HP 31 of 31 - AC 19. - Init +3 - Fort +6 - Reflex +4 - Will +4 - BAB +4

Again, in the absence of a clear understanding of who is exactly aware.

Buoyed by her success, Corvus immediately nocks another arrow and let's fly.
