Liberty's Edge

I was curious if there's a list or guide out there that details which materials/releases have been officially deemed out-of-date or obsolete by subsequent publications. For example, the RotR and CotCT hardcovers render the adventure materials in the first 12 volumes outdated, and a sidebar in the Inner Sea World Guide says it succeeds the Gazeteer and Pathfinder Campaign Setting books. I've been collecting Pathfinder almost 10 years now and have a great deal of the material that's been published. It'd be great to know which books (especially the out of print ones) can be thought of as officially non-use at this point. Thank you!

Liberty's Edge

I was wondering how other people approach the concept of a Cavalier's Order. The books seem to infer that they are at least somewhat organized, but there's never anything written about orders' headquarters or leaders. Are the orders just oaths a knight takes internally, where like-minded knights happen to take the same oaths? Some would lean towards that but some particular ones - like Blue Rose, The Green and The Scales - would also make sense as actual, international organizations. I'm designing a Cavalier and was planning to make his entry into the Order a significant part of his backstory, so I was curious how others have handled the idea.

Liberty's Edge

Hey everyone, I've tinkered with the card game in one-off sessions, but I've finally convinced three friends to start a campaign with me. Before we select characters and begin, I was hoping to get some tips on figuring out which characters might work best together. We have access to both campaigns right now.

There are four of us, so I'm going on the assumption that there should basically be a tank, a Divine user, an Arcane user and some type of Rogue/versatile character. Fortunately, I have all of the Class decks so we've got a lot of options. Are there any character combos that work well together, or even just characters/classes that are clearly superior to others? I want to ensure our team is mighty and successful. If it helps, I can post specific characters some of us are interested in for suggestions.

Thanks so much!

Liberty's Edge

I truly apologize if this has been answered already, but I'd really rather not comb through 969 previous posts. :) So here it goes:

If I purchase this book, is there any reason to buy Elves/Dwarves/Gnomes/Humans/Halflings/Orcs/Goblins of Golarion? I have two of them and was planning on tracking down the rest, but of course I won't if this book covers everything that was already included in them.

Liberty's Edge

Colin looks up at the walls, shaking his head. Well, there's no way we'll be closing those walls, then. That doesn't give us many options for getting inside.

The halfling begins walking toward the rubble when he hears the elf speaking to him. He smiles, happy to oblige. Lord Erastil always gives favor to those humble enough to ask of it. He closes his eyes, mouthing a silent prayer to cast Light, and within a few moments the area is cloaked in soft, gentle light.

Liberty's Edge

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

Colin takes a look around as well. He had gotten a decent night's sleep, and had been especially content given that he had been able to aid one of his fellow adventurers. He decided not to leave anything behind, thinking it was never a bad thing to come prepared for whatever might be inside.

I don't mind that either. Perhaps we can find an easier way to get inside.

Liberty's Edge

Colin nods and quickly trots over to the dwarf. He pulls the sleeves from his coat back and plants both his hands firmly on Gareth's wounded arm. He can feel the blood seeping out and collecting on his fingers, but ignores it and instead closes his eyes in some type of prayer. Within a few moments his hands begin glowing a pale green shade, and gentle wisps of energy emerge from them in all directions.

Calming Touch = 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

About 90 seconds pass of Colin clenching his hands around Gareth's arm, and the green energy slowly stops and dissipates. Colin opens his eyes, removes his hands and takes a step backward. "Does it feel any better?"

Liberty's Edge

Colin watches the argument but doesn't contribute. Instead, he walks over to Gareth to inspect the wound and frowns.

That doesn't look so bad. If you like, sir Gareth, I can use some of the power given to me by Lord Erastil to try and treat your arm. It might take some of the sting away.

Liberty's Edge

Colin let himself catch his breath, then surveyed the action that had unfolded around him. The dogs looked like they might finally be at rest, and his companions seemed okay, although they may have been shaken from the entire ordeal.

"...Is everyone okay?" He asks in an attempt to break the silence.

Liberty's Edge

And my luck ran out. At least I didn't roll 1...I was worried about poor Gareth there.

Liberty's Edge

Colin sees the canine latch onto Gareth's body and readies another arrow. It's close enough that he's confident he can avoid hitting his friend, but far enough that he can ready a decent shot.

1d20 ⇒ 2

Liberty's Edge

Colin watches his arrow sink into the dog and is relieved when it scampers off in the other direction. The halfling follows the lord of the hunt, but truth be told Colin has never enjoyed even harming another creature, let alone taking a life. But sometimes such is unavoidable.

There is a sudden realization from Colin's musings that there are in fact some dogs left.

Liberty's Edge

I'm still here, and getting pretty awesome rolls.

Liberty's Edge

Colin carefully reaches for an arrow from his quiver, kneels down in an effort to ready his frayed nerves, and fires at the dog he gets the best look at.

Ranged attack 1d20 ⇒ 17, Damage 1d6 ⇒ 5

Liberty's Edge

I've got a question about dice-rolling: Is the dice-/dice thing all I have to do when making a roll? I'm unsure if there's something else necessary to verify that I didn't just reload over and over again until I got the scored that I wanted.

Liberty's Edge

Colin takes the advice of the dwarf and scurries to the fire before the dogs approach. He pulls out his longbow, nervously scanning to see precisely where the dogs will come from.

Initiative roll: 1d20 ⇒ 18

Liberty's Edge

Colin helps with the firewood as well, but fortunately he doesn't think anyone expects him to haul the largest piece of firewood.

While assisting the others in prepping the fire, he hears the dogs' sounds and begins to grow alarmed.

"They sound like they're getting quite close to us. We may have to prepare to be set upon."

Liberty's Edge

Hey there Hal, thanks for the response. No problem at all. I wanted an answer, and there's no better person to answer than the author!

Liberty's Edge

Colin listens to the two dwarves volunteer for shift-taking, and decides to be part of the team effort as well.

I can take the final shift. I don't need that much sleep, and it'll give everyone else one more chance to rest before we enter that...place. He turns around to look at the tower, hoping it looks a bit less intimidating in the daylight.

Liberty's Edge

Quick question about the keepsakes describes in the Halflings of Golarion sourcebook. The overview mentions that that allow divine casters new options when casting certain spells. But do they allow the halfling to cast a spell they ordinarily wouldn't have access to?

For example, I would like to give my character a Harvester's Pouch or a Persuasive Arrowhead since they match his deity best. But he's a cleric and the spells are for druids/rangers (Goodberry and Charm Animal). Do the keepsakes allow him to cast those specific spells?

Thanks in advance!

Liberty's Edge

Colin followed, encouraged by the kind words from his compatriots. The route isn't as bad as he had envisioned, and the hike is a good workout for his legs anyway.

Still, he's more than happy to stop and take a breath once they reach the valley. The castle and the howls seem ominous, but for now there's little to do but rest and prepare for the day ahead. He's not much able to assist Teodor in his search, but if called upon he'll do what he can.

Liberty's Edge

Colin does his best to keep up with his taller compatriots, but finds himself continually falling behind them. It's not enough to cause the group to fall behind schedule, but enough to make him very self-conscious about proving his worth to the team.

Once they arrive at the fork, he takes the opportunity to catch his breath and munch on some of the rations he'd been given. The others didn't seem terribly fond of conversation, at least not yet, so he didn't make any along the way.

Looking at the paths, he turns to Teodor as if he's been given the task of the group's course-charter. Well, Mr. Skov, I meant what I said earlier. If everyone would prefer to take the shorter route, you have my word that I'll do everything I can to keep up.

Liberty's Edge

Well, I don't know... Colin frowns as his voice trails off. He exits the tavern right behind Teodor, enjoying the fresh air after having spent several hours cooped up in that stuffy bar. He tries to peer over Teodor's shoulder to look at the map, but he quickly finds he's still not tall enough to do so.

Colin sighs. If everyone else wants to take the shorter route, I won't object. But how much time would we save taking it, and just how much more difficult is it?

Liberty's Edge

I'm PST.

Liberty's Edge

Colin takes the potion and graciously nods his head. Thank you, kind sir. Hopefully they wouldn't be needing the potion, but there were always possibilities...

He snaps his train of unpleasant thoughts when he hears the last comment from Tobin. He takes a quick glance out the window to see how much light is left for the day. Colin stands up and begins packs the potion, then shoulders his backpack as if ready to go.

Liberty's Edge

Colin watches his new teammates disperse and decided against doing any shopping. He had already been traveling for a few days and was confident he had everything he needed, especially with the bonus pack given by Tobin.

He takes the opportunity to use some of his new-found earnings and spends the hour seated at the bar, enjoying a couple mugs of the tavern's finest ale. By the end of the hour he's slightly tipsy, but he's had enough over the years to know when to stop.

I subtracted 5 sp to account for Colin's boozing.

Liberty's Edge

Thank you for the advice. I would consider getting them if they had info that for some reason didn't make it into the Inner Sea World Guide. But if that's not the case, I guess there's not much point. :)

Liberty's Edge

Colin cocks his head, trying to figure out if Tobin's answer is satisfactory. No one else seems to have any objection, however, and he decides to let it go. He can't help but smile as one of the bags of gold is plopped down in front of him.

Very well, count me in. I agree with Mr. Teodor. We don't need to spend the night in the city, doing nothing. Let us depart now, and we can begin exploring first thing in the morning.

He fastens the bag to his belt and waits to see what the others ultimately decide on.

Liberty's Edge

I'm still fairly new to the game and am rabidly purchasing most of the core books. I'm also a completionist and generally like to get all the sourcebooks for my RPGs.

I've read on Amazon and other places that the Inner Sea World Guide is the third edition of the campaign setting, and was preceded by the Gazetteer and the Pathfinder Chronicles Campaign Setting books. Is it practical for me to try to track down all three? Or if I get the ISWG, are the first two unnecessary?

Thanks!

Liberty's Edge

Colin listens intently to the questions being asked. After the wild human finishes, he raises his hand.

I would be happy to be part of this expedition, but I have one more question. He pauses, as if searching for the right words to use. Why did you call upon us, specifically? As we've never met before, how did you know to find us?

Liberty's Edge

Colin raises his hand politely after Teodor finishes asking his question.

What kinds of dangers might we run into exploring this castle?

There are several other questions Colin would like to ask Tobin, but he keeps them to himself for now.

Liberty's Edge

Colin can't help from smirk at the conversation unfolding around him. There's no question this is a very diverse group, and it was probably intentional so.

He slowly takes a piece from the bread basket and began munching on it. It cheers him up, since it was the first thing he'd eaten all day. He nods at the elf who passed him the basket.

Yes, thank you so much good sir. He begins to speak more when the dark-skinned human interrupts. Colin isn't quite sure how to respond to that or Berenwyr's reveal, so he instead takes a big bite of bread and chews.

Liberty's Edge

Colin walked into the bar curiously, unsure of what to look for. His thoughts were quickly answered by the maidens, and the chubby halfling was brought into the backroom almost immediately after arriving. As he looked around the room, he did his best not to appear uncomfortable.

As he sits down, Colin rubs the thick hair on the backside of his palms, trying to get a feel for the situation. The others in the room all appear to be of many different races and backgrounds, meaning Aiken must have wanted a variety of people to take on this task.

Good day, everyone. Colin says, giving a small wave and a slightly forced smile. My name is Colin.

Liberty's Edge

Psychicmachinery, this might be a good time for a newbie question:

What's the difference between the spells I prepare each day and the spells I chose when I designed my character? Can I prepare spells from the entire cleric spellbook of that level?
