Almost everyone I have ever talked to who has read the vehicle chase rules agree that they are a complete mess in RAW and have to be houseruled or overhauled entirely in some way.
Those few pages of rules in the CRB definitely feel under developed or overlooked by Paizo.
Some common changes I have seen over the years have been the following.
Lower the DC of the "Keep Pace" driver action (commonly the change is, 5+ vehicle item level) and/or remove the fall back one space penalty for failures by greater than 5.
or
Increase the DC of the "Evade" driver action and/or make the evade action not move the vehicles up one space.
Re-roll initiative every round of vehicle chase.
Increase the total number of chase zones to 5.
Add a vehicle's speed counter that tracks the approximate speed in mph/kph of the involved vehicles. "Speed Up" and "Slow Down" actions adjusts that approximate speed counter which then applies increasing driver piloting penalties for going above certain speeds or bonuses for going below that speed based on the max speed of the vehicle.
Increase falling damage for falling off a vehicle during a chase based on the approximate speed of the chase at the time.
Hey, I purchased 4 Starfinder PDFs and my credit card statement shows that I have been charged for them, $31.16. None of the PDFs are showing in my downloads list. Please help. I got a game in 2 days and I really need those books to prep for the session. Thank you.
Anyone else notice that the room descriptions for the infirmary and cafeteria do not match the map at all? They just look like prison wards and mirror copies of each other on the map.
No one at Paizo has officially responded to the Cleanse and Surmount Affliction Spells, Samurai ability Samurai Resolve, Presitence Inquisition ability Inner Strength and various other abilities that are supposed to remove or suppress afflictions like Nauseated, Sickened or Paralyzed not working because those same conditions prevent the character from using the abilities that supposedly remove or suppress these conditions.
What is your take on the issue?
Links for you in case you are not familiar with it.
Um, it is a no-brainer that this spell does not work as written for a good portion of the conditions.
I've read one thread and no official answer was given. Way to go on bad editing and even further failure to follow up Paizo-dudes. Tis fun to do world building, but mechanics count as well ;) :)
I figure the spell should be an Immediate Action.
My DM is a curmudgeon for "official" answers.
I've already house ruled this to an immediate action, but I deplore fixing books my players have bought.
Necro-ing to express my displeasure about this too. It has been over 5 years now and apparently no Paizo people have seen the 4 other threads about this same thing, or they choose not to address it. This spell should probably be an immediate action or even a swift action with no components.
Ok, then please provide your opinion on following changes:
Creatures with the nauseated condition experience stomach distress. Nauseated creatures are unable to attack, cast spells, concentrate on spells, or do anything else requiring attention. A nauseated creature may take a single move action or standard action each round (but not both, nor can he take full-round actions). A nauseated creature can still take free, swift, and immediate actions.
Overall this allows:
1. Activation of magic items (except Spell Completion)
2. Drinking a potion
3. Lower spell-resistance so that you friend cleric can actually cast something on you
4. Probably total defense action
Still nauseated remains really bad condition (after all you can't attack, can't concentrate, can't cast spells) but at least it allows you to do something or at least hope that with proper preparation you can remove this condition from yourself.
P.S. With this ruling feat Heroic Recovery at least allows to remove nauseated condition.
Looks good to me. Personally I think it should be kept a move action or lesser action and allows any action that removes the condition to be taken. This way all those special abilities/spells that allow it be removed can be used. I also agree that the Nauseated condition was made ridiculous with the recent FAQ ruling which voided pretty much ALL the class abilities/spells that were supposed to remove the condition. The FAQ seemed a bit off the cuff without consideration for all the abilities/spells that the ruling would effect.
Hey, I just received this order severely damaged. I pay almost the price of the sub itself to get it shipped in a box to prevent this kind of damage that has happened in the past. Why is this still happening?
No "point buy" ability scores in Hero Lab as far as I can find. This seems like a pretty basic functionality that would be useful to many people. Makes me not want to purchase this product.
Lets assume I'm playing hide and seek with one other person and we are in a large flat field. I close my eyes and count slowly to a 100, whilst the other person runs away and then stops but makes no attempt to hide. I turn around slowly and look for the person. The perception DC to notice a visible creature is 0, for the purposes of this exercise I have no modifiers to my perception score. Even if I roll a 20 I cannot see the person if they are 230 feet away, as even with favourable conditions (-2) the distance modifier (+23) makes it impossible. Lets say the person walks back towards me on average take 10) I should be able to notice them from 120 feet away during the day or 80 feet on a moonlit night (favourable/unfavourable conditions).
Hugo, I think you are leaving out an important factor in your calculations.
There is a BIG difference between someone standing openly out in a flat field minding their own business vs someone attempting to actively use the "Stealth" skill to remain hidden from your "Perception" check.
The person not using "Stealth" is standing around openly and can easily be spotted at whatever the terrain encounter distance is.
This same person actively using "Stealth" is likely lying flat on the ground and may have covered their clothes/skin in dirt/grass/leaves and is likely lying very very still.
Encounter distance and opposed Stealth/Perception checks are two very different things.
Awesome, thank you very much. Yes I will switch to a different shipping method. Are you sure you don't want me to send back the NPC Codex. It is an expensive book?
Hi, I just got my order # 2471392 and one of the items was the incorrect book.
I ordered the Pathfinder Hardcover Beastiary (PZ01112) instead i got the Pathfinder NPC Codex (PZ01124)
Where do I ship to send the incorrect book back?
Also, order #2481223 got folded in half and shoved into my mailbox by the USPS. I have already had this happen several times and I have gotten it replaced by Pazio a few times in the past but lately I have just been going out and repurchasing them at my local Brick and Morter. The USPS and their inability to read the label that clearly states "DO NOT FOLD" is making my subscription not make any financial sense since I am going out and buying a replacement every 3rd AP issue. Are there other shipping options for the Adventure Path subscription that will avoid using the USPS? Even after going to the local USPS to complain and they state every time that "we will speak to the mail carrier" it happens over and over.
Hi, I believe that my order 2169118 was returned back to sender. My mail service was going through a transition as I was moving to a new address. My current address is the correct one please send the two issues back to the current address. I agree to pay for shipping again.
My roommate says that I am bad person who started a thread that "Insulted his brain child and threatened his sanity. On his own site. You are a bad person and borderline troll and are the kind of person I want to punch on the internet."
He lightly punched my arm.
My response "Ow. You hurt my feeling."
Take all that as you will.
The thing is, Paizo is not the evil corporation (whom shall be unnamed but whos name begins with an H and ends with an O).
The evil unnamed corporation isn't interested in listening to its customers.
Paizo on the other hand is very actively interested in hearing what we (the customer) has to say. Hence they have a lively messageboard like this with James Jacobs reading and commenting on what we have to say. Hence they put out great stuff since they listen to and actively engage with its customers directly.
Its ok Paizo is a big boy, they can handle the heat. This is probably precisely the kind of thing that they want cause it just makes them make their stuff better. Feedback loop at work here.
I appreciate Paizo for the great products that they put out. I know I'll continue giving them my money for the foreseeable future. Regardless of whatever gripes I or anyone has, IMHO they continue to put out THE premier RPG products, period. No other company comes even close.
So, I've been considering the Assassin prestige class. Could this make him too deadly because of the death attack? The party would potentially have to face him immediately after Ghartok if they fail to parley with him.
Yes, I am def going to make Ghartok completely unaware of Rokova's betrayal. He is too arrogant to think that any gnoll would dare oppose him. Rokova's agenda being to usurp the Carrion King and become the new king. Lately Rokova has been feeling that Ghartok is too much of a fool to properly lead the gnoll tribes. The trogs could be in on this coup as well, siding with Rokova and actively looking for an opportunity to begin the rebellion. Enter the PC's...
I was also thinking about having the gnoll tribes indeed massing on pale mountain. During the PC's foray Rokova would be actively delaying reinforcements from the gnoll tribes gathering nearby by cutting off communication through the use of lies and the trogs to the outside gnoll tribes, possibly even assassinating a few messengers.
This would add an element of urgency to the mission because eventually the gnolls tribes would descend on the house to find out what is going on. Essentially, the party would be striking deep in enemy territory to cut off the head of the enemy general and avert a full scale gnoll invasion. What-da-ya-think? Too deadly?
Your right Dire Mongoose, I've been reading some other posts about TPK's because the party could skip straight to the Carrion King potentially. Does adding the element of urgency make it too TPK-ish?
Thanks guys for your ideas and suggestions I really do appreciate it.
The vast majority of the deity descriptions read something like a monthly horoscope. It often gives me the impression that they are powerful petty mortals rather than the primal forces of the universe.
I also find the real-world cultural/period parallels jarring for a fantasy setting.
None of these complaints aren't things that a good DM can't fix with some judicious use of deific powers to reshape the campaign setting.
Hey, just poking around for any advice or suggestions
My Evil Plans:
for the real living Rokova stats work up that I am working on.
I am using the 2nd part of the Legacy of Fire AP as a standalone addition to my current campaign and wanted to fill out Ghartok's minion retinue with a real live Gnoll Assassin. Similar agenda as the imposter just still alive and not being impersonated.
Any ideas on what class I should use? Maybe class level suggestions? Gear load out? Combat tactics? All ideas and suggestions are welcome.
but I'm beginning to notice a pattern of delays with shipments in this month's subscriptions. However, there is no indication that these shipments are any but slightly delayed. Therefore, your order will mostly likely be showing up at any time now, and if you still haven't seen it by the end of next week, please let me know.
Thanks,
cos
Cosmo! It showed up today. It took a month but as long as its in my hands I am so happy! Thank you!
Hey, I've been checking daily to see if this has arrived yet. But I still have not seen this order and I am getting a little worried. I noticed that I was charged for this shipment on the 28th and usually my orders arrive within two weeks. Did anything go wrong?
However, when we charge your card and ship your products next week the total will not include sales tax. (Unless you really are going to pick up at PaizoCon...)
hey, I got my 5 of 6 issue of the Legacy of Fire in the mail and I was surprised to find it rolled up and stuffed into the tiny box of my neighborhood cluster mailbox. I pulled it out with some difficulty and sure enough found the issue inside to be contorted and creased all over horribly. I went to the local post office today and they declined a reimbursement of the cost of the issue but did offer to write a letter acknowledging the damage was the fault of the USPS. Apparently, the fact that a barcode sticker covered the "BEND" in DO NOT BEND on the front cover gave the carrier the right to roll it up and try to shove it into the cluster mailbox.
All the other issues they delivered to my door but they must have some new guy on my mail route. If you guys took out insurance on this, can I make an insurance claim on this with the USPS and maybe go buy a new one? I would surely like to see the USPS pay for the damage.
Having read the article on Calistria, I don't understand why her temple is sheltering Lavender Lil. If Zincher is seeking revenge for his brother's death, shouldn't Calistria be on HIS side?
Because both the deity's described so far in the 2nd Darkness AP are more fickle and humanistic in their nature rather than being fundamental forces of their chosen patronage. Rather than being the driving elemental forces of the universe, they are more like Greek or Roman deities who do all the mundane human things like take a poop or eat food or start petty arguments etc...
So, even though Calistria is the "goddess of revenge" she could and does on a whim or fancy ignore her "divine duties."
This is the crux of my personal dislike of the deities presented in the Pathfinder system.
They seem less like deities and more like epic level PC's.
I'm looking forward to your thoughts. And sorry if my English is somewhat clunky, I'm not a native speaker :-).
Ah, no, Dance, compared to other posters (thankfully, none of them here), your English is wonderful, far better than most who claim it as their PRIMARY language...at least, this thread does not incite the Bloody-handed (yes, I LIKE red pens, dang it), Fanged, English Teacher of Doom instincts. ;->
Gah! I am ashamed to re-read my posts sometimes. Ive got dyslexia big time and I often mis-type words that I got right in my head. sorry for the trouble.
I'll make the crew 1st level experts (my logic the ship was intended for speed, not combat, so a skilled but not combat-ready crew would be ideal) Of course, the crew will mostly leave combat to the PC's.
my sentiments exactly, regarding the crew of the Flying Cloud
I can appreciate where you're coming from ...but with gaps and random monster tables, to be its like having several loosely linked scenarios of which there are umpteen other products on the market... which, I might add, I don't buy. Ever.
<I already have huge numbers of those sort of products from 1st and 2nd ed, let alone 3rd...>
I buy pathfinder to have a campaign, not loosely linked fill-in-the-gaps adventures. Product differentiation and all that !!
you dont have to make the encounters random
have set encounters involving the cool monsters that you really want the party to see. For example I am making up a set encounter where the party rescues a dwarf/maybe dwarves from some of the islands denizens of my choosing. This way the level gap gets filled, the Gas Forges reward-for- rescuing-dwarves-from-the-island-plot-hole is filled and the party gets a chance to act like hero's and secure some valuable allies.
- THE ELVEN CHOO-CHOO TRAIN: As with some others on these boards, I am having a slight problem with how the whole 'now you are drow, go' part is handled. I can especially see problems with players whose characters have 'mercenary' motivations. Any suggestions on how to make spying for the elves more attractive for any kind of...
I second this sentiment. I am not sure there is any deft way for the adventure to be modified to suit a party not interested in turning into drow and going deep into enemy territory. I am fairly certain that a party approaching as outsiders would bring the full wrath of an entire drow city down upon their heads.
I would suggest spreading out the various sites of interest in Zirnakaynin over a much larger area of the Darklands. Instead of Zirnakaynin being a large closely clustered city perhaps our drow sites of interested could be located in a more spread out and sparsely populated surrounding areas of the city proper. Then the party would not have to enter the drow city proper and risk walking amongst the drow. It could turn this adventure into a guerrilla warfare style adventure against the drow. Non-disguised PCs would approach this adventure as a multi-dungeon crawl with the party eluding the drow in the wild Darklands between assaults upon sites of interest.
Maybe even have a NPC elf-spy-turned-drow-via-magic being a point of contact to update them on their next target by regularly meeting the PC's at prearranged "drop points" in the Darklands.
Are the larval akata vulnerable to salt water as well? Is there a way to cure void death infection with salt water, such as drinking it or performing surgery and applying it to the parasite directly?
this is actually pretty smart and my barbarian player has been asking about this treatment option lately ever since he got infected. I would recommend perhaps giving a +2 fort save bonus against the disease for enduring a saltwater in the wounds treatment.
I'm in the process of closing up some 4e games I've been doing (one a homebrew, one a Forgotten Realms) and expressed my desire to return to v.3.5 and Pathfinder, and both groups are willing and eager.
4E is utter trash is it not? just worthless garbage! good for you sir! 3.5 awaits your attention.
also make sure to make a note on the errata/typos/omissions in the modules. Pay particular attention to the map, stats and encounter errors. Read the forum posts concerning these errors in the AP.
thanks, Honestly I really do appreciate the effort you put into this on the forum. Keep up the good work. It saves the DMs out there alot of headache trying to track down all the errata on the forums here.
I think this guy does a wonderful job of outlining in succicent points the basic tenants of the 9 different alignments
Im going to be using this to guide the Code of Conduct for my future paladins.
F. Wesley Schneider wrote:
as a GM with a paladin player I would take into account the intentions of a paladin's actions, not just a literal if X then Y interpretation of the rules. As the paladin himself, if permitting a lesser injustice prevents a far greater evil, I would hope my all-knowing immortal deity would understand my small mortal judgment call.
and going to the posts about a LG deity having flexibility in the Lawful aspects of a pally's moral choices. If a LG deity were flexible with their code of conduct then they would be NG or CG, not LG. This inflexibility is exactly what makes "Lawful Good" = "LAWFUL" Good, not Neutral Good or Chaotic Good.
I can't believe it! The Descent was a good horror movie? "Blair Witch" was a pretty good Horror movie that profits on their production budget in multiples due to innovative film making. "The Descent" was a trashy money making movie for Hollywood corps looking to profit on their production budget in multiples for the sake of trashy profit.

Watching it is like getting cursed with a -6 Int variant.
think of all those random encounter tables with neat monsters and encounters that make the DM in you salivate
then try to squeeze some of them into the module while running it? without the level gaps my players almost always end up right where they should be and any additional encounters would put them over the top and force an adjustment of your later encounters
the level gap really lets you put more interesting encounters of your own design and/or flesh out any details that the PCs want to pursue in the campaign.
If your players aren't big RPers with goals of their own then they can bash on some cool monsters that they have never seen before and gain some loot and exp.
The party went up to Witchlight to investigate those lights from the tower and to look for Goldhammer's men. They find Samaritha and after getting the low down on what's been going on the Akata's attack. The party takes the tumble down the cliff with the tower they lose all the cyphermages and Samaritha is knocked out but alive when the tower reaches the bottom. The party decides to walk around the island back to the harbor to get back up and they went East...
so, they stumble onto the Drow sea caves, and guess what they do? They decide to explore at half health and resources after Witchlight. The party Barbarians charges in and cuts a Drow guard in half with one mighty blow. The round after the other Drow begins to retreat towards the main cave and the party rogue decides to follow. He is promptly ambushed, pounced and torn apart by the Shadow Demon. The party Cleric thinking that this creature is undead attempts to turn it. After the demon gets several more rounds of shredding the party they retreated back out in the sun and learned something valuable about their enemy in the caves.
Here's to hoping the rest of the party puts this information to good use.
actually, I think Im going to decide to houserule that all paladins alignments must match their Deity
and since Pelor is Neutral Good, the code of conduct for a Paladin of Pelor is going to be much much more forgiving than say the code of conduct for a Paladin of Herionious
thanks everyone for your input, I didnt realize that Demons were running so rampant through the city. I also didn't realize that your average drow had such easy access to detect magic.
Population wise, what would you say would be the rough make up of the Drow population in terms of class?
I was using page 138 and 139 of the DMG to get a general idea of the population make up of a Drow society and using those numbers I would have thought that about 3.5% of an average population might have access to Detect magic. Maybe for a drow society those numbers might be much higher?
I can say with much vigor that Second Darkness is just as deadly. After the spill down the hill at Witchlight the party decided to walk around the island to the harbor and they stumbled onto... guess what?
the cave...
then they decide to explore it with everyone hurt already from the Witchlight attack and tumble. I groaned inwardly as I readily expected a horrible horrible TPK. I mean seriously... what are they thinking...
Through the front and 2 rounds later the party rogue got shredded by the darkness and the rest of the party wisely decided to retreat back out.
