From the ship above, Clive is roused from his thoughts about this new intimidation technique when he sees Velas and Thusiax walking with their target. Waiting for a good moment, he slides down his rope and begins shadowing them.

For his part, Clive did not join the rather....lively spectacle below. Instead, he sat hidden in the suspended ship above, ready to fling himself into the fray at a moment's notice. As he watched the revelers below, an idea began to form about a great way for grabbing someone at a party like this: watch the surroundings, wait for the person to not be paying attention, then fly down, snatch them up, and rebound up into the aerie from which he bounded. While keeping his eye on things where was Thusiax, anyway? Clive would work on what scenarios this would be useful in and what modifications to his gear he would need.

Once Clive noticed that Thusiax was not in any real danger from this Drow, he figured this would be a good time to go through his office, what with him being distracted by Thusiax and all. He knows he doesn't have long, so he will stick to the places where people tend to hide their illegal stuff.

"I'll just keep an eye on things from above and step in when the time is right. Just let me know where in the city the party will be and I'll be sure to be in position before then." offers Clive, who then begins digging through a box of parchment that turns out to be basic maps he has made of each of the districts.

Sorry, between this weekend being super busy and being sick today, I failed to post earlier. I am going to take The Secret of Loose Tongues. As far missions go, I think we should probably take something new, since Thusiax drew some suspicion from his benefactor for mucking around in the gardens, but if he doesn't care about that, then let's make sure the fruit gets flowing!

Clive opens the door hidden behind a false-front stack of crates and looks surprised to see Velas. "I see you have brought....a guest." says Clive as he gives Thusiax a distinctly unpleasant look. "Come in." and with that, Clive moves out of the doorway and allows Thusiax and Velas to enter. Once they are inside, he secures the crates, then the door, and leads them into his planning room. "I have dealt with one of our problems in the gardens, but I think we should have a discussion about what we want to do about Michael."

Leaving the gardens the way he came in, Clive makes his way back to his safehouse and begins going over what he knows. While the mission had ultimately been successful, the resolution had left a bad taste in his mouth. maybe this business with Michael will give me a more satisfying conclusion? thought Clive as he began going through the rituals to maintain the bonds that trapped the gods in his equipment.

"Very well. We expect to hear of your 'retirement' within the day." Clive will close down the lanterns one at a time, then leave the way he came: quietly. Stealth + Low Society +Maps yo!: 1d10 ⇒ 81d10 ⇒ 11d10 ⇒ 91d10 ⇒ 7

"I would welcome your aid. His name is Michael, and he you are quite correct in thinking that he runs one of the hydro-farms. While I do not think he needs to die either, having him removed from Spire in a haze of scandal should be more...satisfying. Tell me what damaging information you have, and we will make sure it gets to the right ears."

Yes, this is truth thinks Clive to himself as the fear washes off Jono like a plague. This is what is right; let Thusiax talk all he wants, at the end of the day, only the cold and the fear remain. Clive's thoughts are interrupted by his mask getting slightly warmer and tighter, is if it is reacting to his thoughts. Snapping back to the present, Clive begins speaking, lest he slip back into those thoughts. "Be quiet and listen." said Clive from the darkness behind the lanterns, knowing that he couldn't be seen. He shifted about a person-width to the right and said in a higher octive "We have been contracted to end your involvement in the Gardens. Before we carry this out, however, we will give you a choice: you may leave of your own volition, or..." Clive let the obvious threat linger for a moment as he once again quietly shifted places, this time about about two people-widths to the left and in a more hissing accent "We are not without heart, however, and willing to exact revenge on your behalf. If you give us all the information you have on your enemies, we shall seek retribution for you, thus insuring the balance is met. What say you?"

That is a really cool idea Velas. Clive says nothing, but instead moves to the second lantern and then opens it as well. He moves as quietly as he can, trying to maximize the terror he's inflicting. Stealth + Maps + Low Society: 1d10 ⇒ 81d10 ⇒ 81d10 ⇒ 51d10 ⇒ 9

Clive will position the lit lanterns around the room with the sleeping creature in it, hanging onto one for himself. When everything is set, he will open the lantern in the direction of the sounds of sleeping then immediately sets it down on a table and slides off to the side, quiet as he can. Does the person who the lantern reveals match the description of Jono?

I know I had mentioned it earlier, but I will go ahead and pick up a half dozen Spireblack Lanterns. I will fill them and then not light them yet. Clive uses the light he can see by to find the wall closest to Jono's house, and then follows that wall to his home. Once there, he will ideally circle around to the back of it, and then light his lanterns and close the hoods, preventing them from generating light. Once all of them are lit, he will follow the wall around to Jono's door, then unlock it if needed and open it. Stealth + Maps, yo! + Crime: 1d10 ⇒ 91d10 ⇒ 61d10 ⇒ 31d10 ⇒ 2

With Jasper: "I beat the information out of someone. They had no reason to lie to me. Perhaps there are only a few people in the Rot that actually are Aelfir Sympathizers, or the ones that are keep their allegiances well hidden, even from your friend? That's what I'm trying to find out, and why I'm asking for your help. I have no desire to punish the innocent, but the guilty on the other hand, shall get their due..." I'm gonna go ahead and roll Compel again to try and convince him to gather some information for me. Hopefully, the dice will quit their shenanigans. Compel + Mastery: 1d10 ⇒ 21d10 ⇒ 8 Better! Assuming that Jasper agrees to gather information for him, Clive will wait and give him a couple of days. After dealing with Jasper, Clive returns to the meeting point to wait on Thusiax, and while he is waiting he is approached by Zaria and given the message. He thanks her politely, gives her a return message of 'I'll handle it.' and then waits for her to leave. After she is gone, Clive will take a circuitous route to the gardens, then make his way to Laroche's "estate", and begin his infiltration of the building. That's why I stick to just stabbing people. Talking to them is exhausting =P "I need your help Jasper. A group of farmers calling themselves the Rot are trying to take over the gardens. They are Alfir sympathizers, and want to see our people that live downspire starve, hoping to secure themselves a place in Alfir society." Clive pauses for dramatic effect, something he stole from Thusiax, and then continues "but I have a plan in place to stop them. What I need, however, is someone who's good at listening. That's where you come in." says Clive as he produces some food and hands it to Jasper. "Think you can get a job doing menial work in the Gardens and see what people are saying about the Rot? Anything might be helpful." Compel + Mastery: 1d10 ⇒ 51d10 ⇒ 3

I could also try talking to my buddy Jasper, whose basically a homeless guy (he does menial labor on occasion). He might be able to get some grunt work in the Rot's area of the gardens and see what he hears.

"It's certainly the easiest way, but I've come to respect your opinion that it's not necessarily the best way. If you want to take some time to talk to his employees, go ahead and do so. The option to remove him from the board will remain on the table." "Also, if you can find out anything about Michael from his employees that we can use, that would be good too. I have an idea for how to deal with him, but we need more information first."

He doesn't bring it up because he doesn't think it's that important. I just wanted to mention why he would be using symbols and counts instead of actual words.

"I was counting the number of guards, or people who act as guards, and noting the number of times they patrolled during my time watching them." So I've been hinting at it, but Clive actually doesn't know how to read. He gets by using symbols or marks for stuff (like different guards).

After leaving the dead drop, Clive says "Give me a few hours. I have something I want to take care of. I will meet you back in my base." Leaving his teammate, Clive makes his way back to the Gardens, this time to the farms controlled by the Rot. He uses a piece of parchment and charcoal to make a map and notes about the guard patrols. If we're going to fight someone that apparently has problems operating in light, I think it only makes sense to carry as many light sources as possible. As far as what to do about him, Clive would be fine with just straight up murdering him, but he recognizes that he's not much of a long-term planner. That's why you're here Thusiax. If you have a plan for dealing with him that doesn't involve him gaining new blood spouts, I'm all ears.

I think we should just update Keira for now, both with the information he wanted us to and the real information as well. I also have a plan for Michael, and it involves framing him for a crime that will cause him to get arrested or thrown out of the city.

As Thusiax removes Druscilla from his back, Clive calmly and quietly removes the knife, then studies it for a moment before pocketing it. Turning to Michael, Clive will say "I am impressed you were able to stay as calm as you did with a knife to your eye. Not may people do." Clive thinks for a moment, then says "I have no problem pointing our employers at the Rot, but I would like to know why you want them removed from their position first." Clive then looks up impassively at the man, as if to say I was never in any real danger. Compel seems to be right (I don't have anything that really adds to it in this situation, so I think I'm only rolling 1 die here): 1d10 ⇒ 6

Torture doesn't work. It's been proven quite extensively. Now the threat of torture, on the other hand... Watching the two of them lie outright, Clive sees that Thusiax's way isn't working, so he steps in to try his. He moves low and slow so that he isn't seen until his arm with the dagger appears in front of Michael's right eye, stopping just short of piercing it. Standing, Clive whispers "Stop. Lying." into his left ear. |
