Chud awkwardly scrambles up the rope. Once atop, he also carefully inspects the shrine.

Know: History 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

He stares around wide-eyed at the sea of coins surrounding the shrine.

It would appear that many people have paid homage to this figure by sacrificing coin...a foolish endeavor if you ask me, especially when you consider the thousands of destitute people in the world, all of which could have benefited from such generosity far more than a chunk of rock. Misplaced generosity at its finest.

The usually mild-mannered half-orc's tone changes to one of disgust, a shift that is odd to his comrades. Chud spits on the ground.

Fools.

Chud kneels beside a tree to take some rations from his pack. Suddenly there is a burst of commotion behind him, quickly followed by a monstrous shriek. Chud whips his head around as Harnac runs passed him screaming. His eyes quickly dart from the fleeing dwarf to the source of his terror, but before Chud can even react, Grip delivers his devastating chomp and the beast falls.

Chud's grotesque face contorts itself into a grim expression of child-like joy.

Alright! So, I don't have to eat this jerky for dinner?

Suddenly, the centaur pack bursts through the underbrush of the forest. Chud's face goes cold again as Dagnud accepts their trade.

...jerky it is.

Chud accepts Harnac's scrolls.

Not at all, comrade.

His head bowed, Chud turns to Nester, raises his hand shyly and extends courtesy in the form of a brief, perfunctory wave.

Ho there.

Meanwhile, Slinky peaks out from under Chud's hood to scrutinize the new face suspiciously.

Azlanti: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

It suddenly occurs to him that he is also interested in the relic itself. Awkwardly, Chud raises his hand and keeps his head bowed, careful to keep his facial features from view.

..ah..Venture-Captain...

Then turning slightly toward Lady Morilla, attempting to employ some kind of etiquette and failing horribly.

...and ah..royal woman..I mean..Milady...that's right isn't it? Milady? Anyway...if I may...this relic. Out of curiosity, can you tell us anything of its properties? You said it needed to be studied. I assume it requires more than a basic monetary appraisal. Is this relic magical? What is known of its properties and why is it so highly sought by The Society and others? I realize we will likely never come in direct contact with it..but..you know, thirst of knowledge and all that...

Chudd does his best to pull Fel away from the well (I'm assuming the stronger members of the party are doing so as well. Once Fel is adequately restrained, Chudd turns to Sumac.

Aye. I did not come this far to be bested by a damn well. Let us leave.

Turning to Fel who is still trying to break the constraints of the powerful dwarves to throw himself down the well. He places gruesome but friendly hand on Fel's shoulder.

If you get around to writing a book about your exploits and you decide to include this little incident, may I suggest, as a title for the chapter "Life or Loot: The Eternal Question".

Chud chuckles to himself as he moves towards the exit.

Fel, perhaps we should just leave the creepy, whispering, death well alone? You have many more stories to scribe, many more tales for you turn into epic battle hymns -- none of which, I'm willing to guess, are to be found down that well...only that poor soul's bones...and death...

Sorry to slow down combat, but, Mike, given my position on the map I don't think I can actually see the baddy. Wouldn't it, therefore, be impossible for me to perform this action without provoking an attack of opportunity if Aid Another count as a "distracting action"? I don't think I could move into position to perform Aid Another without either actually performing Aid Another in a square adjacent to the baddy (provokes an attack of opportunity) or moving in and then out of the baddy's threat area (also provokes an attack of opportunity) to perform Aid Another from a safe distance. Sorry if I'm misinterpreting the rule. Just want to get it right before I act. Again, sorry for slowing down combat.

Chudd experiences an enormous amount of anxiety about this event. He goes to buy some common finery, as well as a suitable mask to hide his face. DM, just a question about splash weapons. Apparently I misunderstood how they worked. So Alchemist Fire has a range increment of 10 ft. and I can throw to a maximum of 5 range increments. My target was 25 ft away. I thought the penalty started after the first ten feet and it was -1 for each additional range increment, making the total penalty -2. Sorry if my understanding of the rule is wrong. Also, feel free to respond in the discussion section. I don't want to derail combat.

EDIT: nevermind, the penalty is -2 per range increment I just realized. Man, that's a steep penalty. Anyway, good call
