Carina takes Tanith's hand. She's shaking a little.

"...we'll get it done, sir." Carina nods.

I'll prep a couple of Death Wards and Communal Stoneskin, along with Greater False Life and my mutagen.

"...oh."

Carina can do little but observe the scene in a mix of horror and awe.

"...that's...that's a lot of baddies."

Carina squares her shoulders, steps up and dips the cleanest of her hands into the fountain to drink its waters.

Even in her exhausted state, Carina notices the lead spirit's temper.

"...'when'?"

Her voice speaks up, imbued with fire and resolve.

"Excuse me, sir, but this so-called detente you speak of has already been shattered. The simple fact that a rival band has arrived here--the fact that WE arrived here--should make that clear enough." Carina steps forward, still covered in night twist essence and her eyes blazing.

"We've passed this place's tests. Hells, we did the impossible for two of them--wrestling a titan said to have bested Kord Himself and winning, and slaying a night twist without killing its victim. We've proven we're up to any challenge."

"And what I see before me is a posturing coward looking for any excuse to not act when the time to act has clearly arrived." Her eyes focus on Tylanthros.

"You can be better than this. What concerns me is that you don't seem to want to. Dregotha needs to be stopped, someone has to do it, and at this point it's either us, or *nobody.*"

Thanks to Shield Other, that comes out to 16 damage.

Carina manages to escape the worst of the incoming acid breath--and thanks to Tanith's shielding spell (and the wind wall) she only suffers mild acid burns.

She then chugs another extract--one to protect herself from future acid problems!

Drinking resist energy extract, keyed to acid.

Carina winces. "I'm getting that tree out of him. No one deserves to suffer like that."

She takes out an extract and chugs it down, her body briefly glowing white.

Using death ward extract.

Depends. Carina's mind responds to Forzamele. I'm pretty good, at least--I think I can save them without putting myself at risk.

And if the worst happens, I'm sure either I'll be able to cut it out myself... or we'll solve that problem together.

Carina takes a breath. "You've suffered a great deal, Viruinne. I wish to do what I can to help--and save your life, if possible."

Carina looks over the tree and how it's buried in the dragon. "...well, it's definitely stuck in there. But I think I might be able to remove it."

"It'll be very risky, sir. I'll not lie to you--there is a chance that you may not survive the procedure."

"...I don't think so..." Carina blinks in nervousness. "...the tree seems to be growing out of it."

She retreats behind Tanith, not wanting to get surrounded and almost carved up like she was before!

Carina hustles through the antimagic aura, stopping in the silenced area.

Spending an action point for that to be a bonus move action.

Then she turns on the visible ankou to her right (blue ankou) and starts bombarding it with bombs!

New Discovery: Grand Mutagen
--The alchemist's mutagen now grants a +6 natural armor bonus, a +8 alchemical bonus to one ability score (Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution), a +6 alchemical bonus to a second physical ability score, and a +4 alchemical bonus to a third physical ability score. The alchemist takes a –2 penalty to his Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma as long as the mutagen persists. An alchemist must be at least 16th level and must possess the greater mutagen discovery before selecting this discovery.

Carina lets out a little yawn as she appears in the dream.

"...Lashonna?"

Carina winces.

"...kind of. Pre-reincarnation."

Carina checks her bombs.

"...I don't have a full complement..."

Carina holds up her hands. "Alright."

"Regardless, thank you for talking with me. It's... it's been enlightening." She stands up.

Carina folds her hands in her lap. "Even if that was the case, it's fairly clear that whatever happened is... unpleasant for you to remember. I didn't mean to dredge up bad memories, ma'am."

"I was just trying to offer some sympathy. And since you don't want to talk about it, I understand."

Carina pauses, trying to get a better read and decide how to best continue.

"I figured." Carina sighs.

"...the reason I asked... it's because I think I had something similar happen to me."

Carina lets out a breath.

"That's... um... thank you for sharing that. That's clearly something that's been bothering you for a long time." She replies, her tone shaking with restrained... emotion? Well, emotions. It's a tangle trying to spill out and being held back with mostly willpower and a prayer.

"You and... you know Mom? How do you know her?"

Carina blinks.

Her mind spins as she tries to process what Sabir just told her.

Carina sighs, her eyes starting to sting with tears. "...I don't know what to do next."

She looks at Sabir. "Mo--" She starts, the word catching in her throat and causing her to choke a little. "...Sabir..."

"...I know that I don't really know you. I never had a chance to. I know you fought against us--maybe even tried to kill one or two of us. You're here on the same mission we are, but you came here for different reasons... ones that are at cross-purposes with ours."

She takes a shuddering breath. "The thing is, I know you're a better person than this. You could have handed me over to the Ebon Triad when I was born--and Fharlanghn only knows what kind of person I'd have grown up to be, then. But you..." She swallows. A tear runs down her cheek. "...you didn't."

"I don't want you dead. I want to know you better--and... hells, I don't want Rin--" She winces at the name. "--to be without her mother."

"We can work this out... can't we?"
