Carina Viera |
Taking 10 for Auto-success on Heal.
"...I don't think so..." Carina blinks in nervousness. "...the tree seems to be growing out of it."
"And it's starting to wake up."
Eben MacTeague |
"Maybe the dragon is a prisoner of the tree?" Eben asks, then haltingly asks in Draconic, "Dreh hi laan mu aak govey reyth nol hin qah?"
Dungeon Kobold |
One enormous eye of the hulking great wyrm green dragon blinks open, and it stares balefully at the party. To those who didn't see it nestled within the roots of the tree, it's quite a shock to see it stir. Its eye is a brilliant blue, but streaked with black veins. "Ah. So you are... finally back. I was beginning to wonder if even my memories had..." Its gaze flicks towards Farrukh, and it tilts its head slightly. Then it seems to register Eben's question.
It lets out a grim, hollow laugh. The laugh follows the tune of the Mournful Song, if one were made for the other.
"There is no point in that now. Its roots are burrowed too deep, like a worm in the skull. It is not..." It lets out a retching cough. Black phlegm strikes the dirt and sizzles. "... it is not in the words of fate that either of us survive this night. I am Viruinne the Garden, and this tree is my prisoner, and I am its, and you are here to kill us both."
Eben MacTeague |
"That... seems regrettable." Eben says, switching to the much easier Common now that the dragon has established it won't get uppity over the use of Draconic. "Not to be pedantic, but I actually do have a worm in my skull, and I'm doing okay."
Oh, on that note, since the worm in question gives a +4 bonus on Knowledge checks involving dragons, let's see if Eben has ever heard of Viruinne before, either naturally or Kyuss-enhanced...
knowledge (arcana) + worm-filled goodness+ good hope: 1d20 + 7 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 4 + 2 = 14
ah, probably not. too bad, would have fun for that to be useful...
"How did you come to be here? I assume the tree was banished by the Order of the Storm. What about you?" he asks, hoping to forestall the 'kill them both' until at least the dragon have a chance to tell its story.
Oh, probably won't make a difference either, but in case Viruinne's nihilistic attitude is fueled by having the Mournful Song living inside it's body, Eben is happy to treat the dragon like an ally and extend my Countersong performance to include it.
Carina Viera |
Taking 10 for Auto-Success on Heal.
Carina looks over the tree and how it's buried in the dragon. "...well, it's definitely stuck in there. But I think I might be able to remove it."
"It'll be very risky, sir. I'll not lie to you--there is a chance that you may not survive the procedure."
Cuetzpalli |
Cuetzpalli just gapes like a child at the county fair, never having expected to come across such a thing. He is overawed by the creature despite himself and its horrible predicament.
Dungeon Kobold |
"And the corruption be passed unto you." Viruinne tips its head to Carina. "I beg your pardon, but I would sooner die in battle than fail my mission a coward."
It turns to Eben, and its eyes flicker, swimming with parasitic shadows. "I have already told you. I am one of few remaining dragons aligned to the Order of the Storm, and one of very to refuse an oath of service to the Dracolich. I was young then. When the Forgotten War ended, I sought a new task to fail at, and this is the hand I was dealt."
Eben MacTeague |
sense motive: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (17) + 25 = 42
Eben relays through Forzamele to Carina, It's... really struggling to stay sane. Killing it might be a mercy. But you're the surgeon, what do you think your chances are of un-infecting it without becoming a host for the tree yourself?
Out loud, he replies, "We... respect the sacrifice you've made, keeping this contained. We are very strongly anti-Dragotha ourselves, if that's any consolation."
Carina Viera |
Depends. Carina's mind responds to Forzamele. I'm pretty good, at least--I think I can save them without putting myself at risk.
And if the worst happens, I'm sure either I'll be able to cut it out myself... or we'll solve that problem together.
Carina takes a breath. "You've suffered a great deal, Viruinne. I wish to do what I can to help--and save your life, if possible."
Dungeon Kobold |
"You have already made your allegiances very plain," it says to Eben. "I have not forgotten what you did that day."
You can go ahead and roll Diplomacy. Success or failure, this will likely end the chitchat portion of the encounter.
Eben MacTeague |
Diplomacy+good hope: 1d20 + 25 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 25 + 2 = 36
"...forgotten? Viriunne, are you saying we've met before?"
Farrukh, did you break linear continuity again? (Or will you have broken linear continuity again for the first time at some point in the future?)
Dungeon Kobold |
"Most of you. Long ago." Viruinne's eyes narrow. "Or... perhaps I am mistaken."
Holding off in part to give people a chance to engage, but mostly because today's a cluttered day, and tomorrow will be easier to write things up anyways.
Dungeon Kobold |
"The offer you make is most kind, Carina."
The dragon begins to rise to its feet. Clods of earth and trails of moss and lichen cascade around the colossal beast as it emerges from the earth to stand at its full height.
A shiver passes through the tree, and Viruinne's eyes flood with black oil. "I suppose we will see if you can honor it."
As the dragon ascends, the song of the tree rises to a nearly-deafening pitch. Everyone's ears ring painfully for a brief second. The world shifts and warps, contorts, and suddenly...
... suddenly the surroundings seem lighter. Brighter. The dark oil on the forest trees is gone, and the wood and bark beneath is bone-white birch. The black barren ground sprouts tall, thick grasses which take on flickering fiery autumn hues. A breeze shimmers through the clearing. The meadow is encircled in a ring of densely-packed birch trees and pale gray fog, blocking the party's exit.
At the top of the hill, the Mournful Song looms atop its parasitised companion. The chains around it are gone.

Map updated. For the purposes of the map, treat the night twist as riding the dragon.
Round 1: Cuetzpalli, Astraden and Farrukh are up!
Astraden Limhaare |
Astraden winces at the dragon's rise. Can't be comfortable to move around with that thing in you . . .
She begins casting a spell, hanging back from the imminent melee.
Summon monster vii.
Cuetzpalli |
Entering bloodrage.
Cuetzpalli sprouts his wings, and flies directly at the thing leeching off the dragon, swinging his radiant sword at it like a baseball bat.
Move 60', ending above and within 5' of the night twist. Then take one attack.
Kelmarchen (AS, PA, good hope, ): 1d20 + 30 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 30 + 2 = 432d6 + 37 + 2 ⇒ (6, 1) + 37 + 2 = 462d6 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10 43 for 46 and 10 holy. Overcomes any Hardness and evil creature DR. If it's an evil outsider another 1d6 ⇒ 1 from Angelic Attacks.
Dungeon Kobold |
Cuetzpalli's brutal strike cuts deep into the fibrous 'flesh' of the night twist. The tree's branches shudder. So does the dragon.
Round 1: Viruinne
The dragon rears up and raises one long claw, drawing runes in the air and breathing upon them. A thick, physically stifling cloud of mist rises around the party. And it burns.
Viruinne takes to the air, risking Cuetzpalli's retaliation to carry its parasite to safety.
Cast Defensively: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (9) + 23 = 32 Success, but Cuetzpalli gets an AoO on the dragon for the movement.
Everyone except Cuetzpalli takes 2d6 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2 acid damage. Bolding in the quotes for emphasis.
This cloud (indicated on the map with the green circle) functions like fog cloud, but in addition to obscuring sight, creatures moving through a solid fog move at half their normal speed and take a -2 penalty on all melee attack and melee damage rolls. The vapors prevent effective ranged weapon attacks (except for magic rays and the like). A creature cannot take a 5-foot-step while in solid fog.
Note that because the tree is "riding" the dragon, you only need to be in reach of the dragon to hit the tree. The dragon and night twist are now 35 feet up, however.
Round 1: Carina, Eben, Clunk and Tanith are up!
Eben MacTeague |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I assume the green circle is the cloud of nastiness?
"Damn, I can't see... AH IT'S IN MY MOUTH" Eben yelps as the cloud of noxious fog cuts off sight. He automatically nocks an arrow, then makes another displeased sound as he discovers how... thick the fog is. "Screw it, we're all out of this crap. And it's worth the burned vocal chords." A chant comes from his position, ancient words of mystical import.
"If you walk away, walk away, I walk away, walk away... I will follow!"
Concentration, continuous damage: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (12) + 21 = 33
The fog cloud flares with suffused mauve light from within for a moment, followed by a number of matching light flashes popping into existence around the clearing. The entirety of Spiny's Six (plus Clunk) step out of those light flashes, hardly the worse for the dragon's opening salvo.
Casting bard's escape, taking all of us out of the fog cloud and putting us down elsewhere. My range covers most of the battlefield (up to 250 feet). Also going to try and separate us across the battlefield to avoid the temptation of dragon breath on the whole group...
OK, don't have permissions to move Astraden, Tanith, or Farrukh's tokens. I'd like to put Tanith next to Carina on the map, Astraden somewhere in the middle of the triangle of Eben, Carina, and Clunk, and Farrukh right underneath the flying tree/dragon combo. Actually, I'll move Cuetz as well, maybe set him next to Farrukh- I have to put him on the ground again, but this way he has less distance to fly to hulk smash tree.
Dungeon Kobold |
They've been moved! That said, are you sure you want to put Carina and Astraden essentially next to the dragon and Night Twist?
Oh, and do you want to elevate anyone? Or is this purely horizontal movement?
Eben MacTeague |
The spell states that they have to arrive on level ground, so elevation is out. As far as positioning- I figured proximity didn't really matter, since the dragon and tree are both flying, and wanted Carina within bombing distance and Astraden to be able to run and heal anyone as needed. I dunno, anyone have strong feelings otherwise?
Cuetzpalli |
Are we killing the dragon, or just the twist? Not sure if I want to take my AOO...
Farrukh Al`Khatel |
Think I'm just gonna say I delayed to sort out the sequence of events.
Farrukh takes a moment to analyze the situation, then pounces.
Moving up 30 feet (Move action), then full attacking.

Dungeon Kobold |
I assume you're attacking the Night Twist? Also, Cuetzpalli, I'm gonna ask for you to make the call--I don't get the sense anyone necessarily knows what to do here.
Astraden Limhaare |
Been a while since I made a buff post.
On Cuetzpalli: bear's endurance, find the path, owl's wisdom
On Carina: bear's endurance
On Eben: shield of faith
On Astraden: death ward, magic circle against evil, protection from law, shield of faith
On Farrukh: invisibility*
On Clunk: magic vestment
*Should have given him a bonus on his first attack, but deactivated now? He has flight from his shield, right?
Concentration, injured while casting: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (7) + 20 = 27 DC 19. Might be missing some spell that buffs concentration.
Astraden gamely continues casting as she breathes in the acid fog and is whisked up the rocky hill.

I assume you're attacking the Night Twist? Also, Cuetzpalli, I'm gonna ask for you to make the call--I don't get the sense anyone necessarily knows what to do here.
Alright, Eben's argument ooc is convincing.
AOO on dragon (AS, PA, good hope): 1d20 + 30 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 30 + 2 = 422d6 + 37 + 2 ⇒ (2, 4) + 37 + 2 = 452d6 ⇒ (1, 6) = 7 42 to hit for 45 damage and 7 holy
Dungeon Kobold |
The dragon's scales are torn apart by Cuetzpalli's terrible blade, and both it and the tree shudder--but they don't seem badly hurt.
Farrukh springs in to take advantage, but the tree twists and contorts, parrying his expert strikes with its branches. Curiously, even though Farrukh left an opening, the dragon doesn't even seem to notice he is there and does not strike him.
All misses. Tanith and Clunk are up.

All misses. Tanith and Clunk are up.
Also Carina.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
Oh boy. I'm way behind...
Will: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (16) + 21 = 37
Tanith considers the mournful song. He shakes his head shrugging off the melancholy and marches on.
***
He watches the strange parley between the dragon and the party with barely restrained excitement. The monstrous tree-like parasite sprouting from Viruinne's scaled flesh is an afterthought at the possibility of wrestling another dragon. The big man waits, despite the beast's claimed allegiance, hoping for the scene the come to blows.
Only the sudden change of scenery and spicy fog snaps Tanith back to his senses.
"Thanks for the save Eben. What's the plan Red? You want to try to remove that thing from the dragon?"
See the dragon gain altitude for a possible strafe, Tanith prays for aid. In a flash, an ethereal vaguely-elven woman emerges from coiling wisps of smoke that smell strongly of ale and myrrh.
Using a blessing as a standard action to summoning a bralani.
The big man gestures up briefly signaling the celestial.
"Dragon. Cover us as long as you can."
The bralani will ready to cast wind wall to intercept a breath weapon if the dragon tries one.
Tanith has acid resistance so he ignores the 2 damage. Carina do you take acid damage? If so Tanith will split it via the shield other.
Carina Viera |
Carina winces. "I'm getting that tree out of him. No one deserves to suffer like that."
She takes out an extract and chugs it down, her body briefly glowing white.
Using death ward extract.
Dungeon Kobold |
The bralani nods, eyeing the dragon's enslaved state with evident grief.
Clunk stares the dragon down. "You should land."
Spell Resistance: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33

Opposed Charismas: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 51d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
But though he struggles mightily against the dragon's resistances, the will of the Mournful Song itself is too much for him. Clunk gives a disappointed clank and turns invisible.
Round 1: Night Twist
With a melodic howl, the Mournful Song unleashes its might upon the only thing in reach, the second thing to dare strike at it in centuries.
Slams (Power Attack; Elevation) @ FARRUKH: 1d20 + 33 - 5 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 33 - 5 + 1 = 481d20 + 33 - 5 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 33 - 5 + 1 = 301d20 + 33 - 5 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 33 - 5 + 1 = 451d20 + 33 - 5 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 33 - 5 + 1 = 371d20 + 33 - 5 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 33 - 5 + 1 = 371d20 + 33 - 5 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 33 - 5 + 1 = 35

If a 35 hits, that's 40 + 40 + 40 + 44 + 39 = 203 total bludgeoning damage. The tree does stop attacking if Farrukh goes down.
If 35 misses but 37 hits, that's 40 + 40 + 40 + 44 = 164 total bludgeoning damage.
If 37 misses but 45 hits, that's 40 + 40 = 80 total bludgeoning damage.

Round 2: Cuetzpalli, Astraden and Farrukh are up!
Cuetzpalli |
S#~#, this thing's fast!
Cuetzpalli flaps his wings as hard as he can, propelling himself across the battlefield, positioning himself between the enemies and Astraden.
Double move
Current AC is 31, with shield running.
Astraden Limhaare |
Summon monster vii: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Astraden finishes the spell with a snatch of Abyssal as Farrukh maybe falls, and draws three distorted shades of herself from underneath her boots.
Summoning three shadow demons and asking them to put one more straw on KC's back f*+~ up the night twist.
Two of the shades she flings up into the air, where they release twin pinpricks of white flame that throw up improbably stark and spidery shadows when they collide with the uppermost branches of the Mournful Song.
Fireball damage: 10d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 5, 6, 1, 4, 4, 3, 4, 1) = 34 CL vs SR: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 CL vs SR: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15 DC 18 Will to divide by 5, DC 18 Reflex to divide by 2. Not attacking Viruinne.
Fireball damage: 10d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 2, 1, 6, 3, 5, 6, 1, 3) = 31 CL vs SR: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20 CL vs SR: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26 DC 18 Will to divide by 5, DC 18 Reflex to divide by 2. Not attacking Viruinne.
The third shadow she flings directly at Viruinne.
And now the question is: Do shadow demons have magic jar or possession (a la Occult Adventures)?
She then runs, clanking, over to Farrukh. "Hey man. Olidammara left a message for you."
Breath of life: 5d8 + 15 ⇒ (7, 3, 5, 6, 1) + 15 = 37
Spending an action point for an extra movement action, movement, and standard action breath of life.
Dungeon Kobold |
According to the PFSRD, they have magic jar. And lucky for you, the Mournful Song does not have SR! I'm surprised, too. Dragon does, though.
Night Twist Will Saves: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (4) + 23 = 271d20 + 23 ⇒ (12) + 23 = 35
Night Twist Reflex Saves: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 141d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
Magic Jar SR vs. Viruinne: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20 Fails.
The night twist and its 'mount' easily resist the summons' effects, but cannot avoid being slightly burned. Even though the shadowy flames ignore the dragon, it still visibly winces in pain.
Adding the damages together before dividing so it's 13 damage instead of 12, because I find it more satisfying. And then it gets split between them, so my integer is spoiled anyways. Bah!
Round 2: Farrukh is up. I understand you had some sort of insta-resurrection planned, but I'm actually not sure how much damage you took yet?
Farrukh Al`Khatel |
Sorry about that, I thought I'd posted in the thread but it was just the Discord.
Farrukh braces as the dragon slams him toward the ground, and just keeps on pounding him.
Think all our AC-boosting buffs are down?
So damage is 40*3 = 120; 5 HP left. 44 damage would bring me to -39.
Farrukh is shredded, smashed, eviscerated, and otherwise removed from this mortal coil...for a moment. Golden motes form around his obliterated corpse as it is painstakingly reconstructed to its last healthy state, then releases a burst of golden energy as Farrukh stands there, unscathed!
Heart of the Time Lord trigers, I heal for 160, bringing me back to full, and I take the 44 damage, bringing me back down to 81.
The dragon snorts once, and then contemptuously flicks the warrior with his tail, very nearly returning him to the same state he was just in.
Farukh squeaks by with just 42 HP remaining. Or maybe a couple extra, I need to doublecheck and make sure 125 is my level 16 max HP. But either way, alive but really injured.
He picks himself up off the metaphorical floor, groaning in agony at his death, sudden rebirth, and then near-death again.
"F#@* that was close."
He drunkenly swerves through the air, and activates a technique to hopefully stave off death a little longer.
First Standard action: Time Thief's Talons.
Tooth: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (8) + 23 = 31
But he can't quite put his all into it. Miss, pretty sure.
And so instead he just puts everything into trying to finish the beastie as fast as possible.

Yeesh.
Dungeon Kobold |
Still half in the grave, Farrukh finds his attacks are easily repelled by the monstrosity.
Viruinne is up, post tomorrow.
Dungeon Kobold |
Round 2: Viruinne
Viruinne springs into the air once again, flying to the far side of the hill and landing. It takes a deep breath, then releases it as a powerful blast of acid.
Movement provokes AoOs from anyone who was adjacent to the dragon or is airborne in his path--I think just Farrukh and the shadow demon?
Assuming no AoOs stop him...
The bralani acts in a blur, conjuring up a wall of wind. The acid and wind collide in a horrible storm, but a great wyrm's power is not so easily put aside.
Everyone except Clunk (and maybe the Bralani?), gimme some Reflex saves. The damage dice are reduced by the bralani's caster level.
If you rolled a 31 or higher, you halve that amount, or take none if you have Evasion.
Wind wall and bralani placed.
Round 2: Carina, Eben, Clunk and Tanith are up!
Eben MacTeague |
1d20 + 20 ⇒ (14) + 20 = 34
Eben dodges the worst of the acid cloud, partly through his own efforts and partly through Tanith's minion's intervention. Still, he hisses as he sizzles a bit. He changes up his bardic dance steps from one of comedic relief to one of valor.
Stopping the Countersong performance; beginning Inspire Courage as a swift action.
"Alright, we're at least partly shielded from your breath, let's work on your spellcasting..." Eben mutters, and gestures as he speaks. "Let's see if this works on dragons as nicely as it did..."
"ON."
"MIND."
"FLAYERS."
His last three words shriek out at Viruinnne as almost tangible forces of solid sound.
Casting deafening song bolts, all three targeted at the dragon.
Ranged touch attack+good hope+Inspire Courage: 1d20 + 16 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 16 + 2 + 3 = 24

Ranged touch attack+good hope+Inspire Courage: 1d20 + 16 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 16 + 2 + 3 = 34
sonic damage: 3d10 ⇒ (8, 8, 9) = 25
As a reminder, any bolt that hits deafens the target for 1d6 rounds.
Eben MacTeague |
Just noticed now I rolled a 20 on that second bolt.
Crit Confirmation touch+good hope+inspire courage: 1d20 + 16 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 16 + 2 + 3 = 39
Sonic crit: 3d10 ⇒ (5, 7, 4) = 16
Astraden Limhaare |
As she can't reach him, is it okay to retcon that move (and action point use) and breath of life to casting wind walk on everyone she can reach?
Reflex: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 2 = 12 Btw, not lawful or evil right?
Eben MacTeague |
Do you mean air walk? Or are you calling for a retreat?
Dungeon Kobold |
I'd allow that retcon. The spell is not lawful or evil, if that's what you're asking. The dragon is.
That's 70 sonic damage, split up.
The dragon and tree unleash twin screams as the bolts strike them, temporarily obliterating Viruinne's hearing. The dragon shudders, its head lowering towards the ground as it experiences, for the first time in centuries, true silence.
Round 2: Carina, Clunk and Tanith are up!
Carina Viera |
Reflex Save *Good Hope, Shield Other, MCvE*: 1d20 + 18 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 18 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 42
Thanks to Shield Other, that comes out to 16 damage.
Carina manages to escape the worst of the incoming acid breath--and thanks to Tanith's shielding spell (and the wind wall) she only suffers mild acid burns.
She then chugs another extract--one to protect herself from future acid problems!
Drinking resist energy extract, keyed to acid.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
Flex (good hope): 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 12 + 2 = 21
Unlike his companions, Tanith's musclebound frame doesn't move with the agility necessary to avoid the gout of acidic bile showering down on him. His chest hair suffers mightily.
That's 10+58 after the acid resistance.
The big man groans in pain as he shakes the worst of the acid from his body and moves into a central location. With a fist, he pounds the bloodied star of Kord tattooed across his muscular chest sending a pulse of golden light across the area that smells strongly of mead, leather, and sweat.
Moving into range to get Astraden, Carina, Cuetzpalli, and Clunk with a channel energy. This should get Eben as well if he was okay delaying a fraction of a second before moving away. Swift to activate ki insight for the minutes long AC bonus.
Channel to Heal: 5d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 4, 1, 5) = 18
Trusting that it will be a moment before the dragon can use its breath weapon again, the bralani floats across the battlefield on unseen currents and graces Farrukh with her own healing touch.
Cure Serious: 3d8 + 6 ⇒ (7, 7, 1) + 6 = 21
Eben MacTeague |
As a suggestion for Clunk's action:
Seeing the ridiculous ease with with Eben's magic bolts hit the large, bulky pair in the sky, and lacking means of flight of his own, the Kolyarut begins his own magical bombardment, aimed at the parasitical tree. A rippling bolt of not-quite-darkness extends towards the pair.
enervation: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (8) + 16 = 24
negative levels: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Dungeon Kobold |
The enervation bolt strikes the tree directly, but though it shudders, the dragon is the one that lets out a gasp of pain.
1 negative level to the Mournful Song, 2 to the dragon. I'll get the Night Twist's action up tomorrow.
Dungeon Kobold |
The Mournful Song contorts, and its song seems to twist. Dark, spectral lines trail out of it like trails of smoke, snaking around Eben's neck and attempting to enter through his ears.
Eben, give me a Will save versus (compulsion)/(mind-affecting).
If you rolled a 22 or lower, you are rendered permantly confused.
Init Order:
Cuetzpalli, Astraden and Farrukh
Viruinne
Carina, Eben, Clunk
Tanith
The Mournful Song
Round 3: Cuetzpalli, Astraden and Farrukh are up!
Eben MacTeague |
Will+good hope: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 12 + 2 = 28
Action point, just in case: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 1) = 12
"The tree's trying to give me a wet willy! Yuck!" Eben calls out, completely oblivious to what could have happened and yet still kind of peeved, as though he spent a resource he totally didn't need to.
Astraden Limhaare |
Good catch DS. I was thinking of communal air walk! Also, I realized the shadow demons should have gotten caught in the cone? Here is also a shadow-aoo:
Bite: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 Chaotic, evil: 1d8 ⇒ 2 Cold: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Reflex: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
Reflex: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
Reflex: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
Halved by incorporeality, right? And then energy resistance? So 21 damage to each of them, leaving them at [38/59].
Astraden takes the full brunt of the rain of bile, hair and armor smoking with a bitter smell afterwards. She climbs the hill to join Tanith in healing.
Channel heal: 7d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 3, 6, 6, 6, 2) = 30
[82/134] [2/7]
The shadow demon that was closest to Viruinne flits over the battlefield, clawing and bitimg at the Mournful Song, the shadows of its limbs and neck growing improbably long as it reaches for the roots of the tree.
Claw (inspire courage, charge, elevation): 1d20 + 11 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 11 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 36 Chaotic, evil (inspire courage?): 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 Cold: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Claw (inspire courage, charge, elevation): 1d20 + 11 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 11 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 35 Chaotic, evil (inspire courage?): 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 Cold: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Bite (inspire courage, charge, elevation): 1d20 + 11 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 11 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 32 Chaotic, evil (inspire courage?): 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Cold: 1d6 ⇒ 6 Not sure if an incorporeal creature's (touch) attacks count as weapons. Also, due to pouncing, AC down to 16 on the one closest to the dragon for the next round.
One of the ones that hung back seems to listen, briefly, tilting its misshapen head towards Astraden, and makes its own attempt to override the night twist's control over Viruinne.
Caster level: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
The shadow issues a noise of reproachment at Astraden and then flies at speed across the hill.
The final demon makes a half-hearted incantation and releases another bead of fire at the night twist, only just missing its fellow.
Fireball: 10d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 4, 6, 4, 6, 4, 6, 3, 5) = 50 CL for Viruinne: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21 DC 19 Will and Reflex if that somehow breaks Viruinne's SR - if it doesn't, I believe the spell fails completely.
Dungeon Kobold |
Those are touch attacks, right? It's good to put that in the parenthetical. All hits.
Will;Reflex: 1d20 ⇒ 11d20 ⇒ 20 Takes 25+12 damage, split into 13 to Viruinne and 24 to the Mournful Song.
The shadows tear into the Mournful Song, inflicting numerous small spectral cuts and tears. The tree and dragon barely seem to notice, but the fireball seems to catch the tree briefly off-guard, and the shadowy flames scorch the tree and briefly transform it into a burning brand. The tree lets out a creaking groan. It burns well, it seems, and this vulnerability does not appear to wholly transfer over.
Round 3: Cuetzpalli and Farrukh are up!
