Capricia returns to the others and reports Lady Rauls's suggestion to go after the Qadiran bandits.

Capricia doesn't feel like she's making a positive impression on Lady Rauls, but the conversation turns to one of the red-haired warrior woman's newer interests: horses and riding. She expresses an interest in proper equestrian gear (especially fashionable clothing and barding for her mount...should she ever get around to actually buying one!).

Capricia decides to take the initiative for once, to test if some of the lessons that Martella (and her new comrades) have taught her have taken root. She approaches the narrow-faced woman and speaks.

"I've learned that it's best to garner as much information about potential foes before engaging them. What can you tell me of these bandits? I've never dealt directly with Qadirans before. Is there anything unusual about their attacks or tactics?"

Capricia Belacrest Diplomacy Check (subsequent potential request for info): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

And THAT is why Capricia usually keeps her mouth shut!

As is her custom, Capricia remains silent during the questioning. She's no Taldan politician, but Martella's training and hanging with the others and getting a firsthand experience of politics in action pays off, and she's aware that Loyalists seem to be targeted before Bimble makes the comment.

"This revelation makes me even more suspicious about the baron's health and the missing councilor," she whispers back to Bimble. "We might want to check up on him and make sure he's still alive...and that he stays that way!"

Capricia's face sours at the name Pythareus. When there's a moment that no potentially unfriendly ears can overhear, the swordswoman whispers, "Seems a bit suspicious to me that the baron and a member of the council are both missing at such an important meeting. With the king using foreign assassins in the capital, is it a stretch to think that perhaps the baron might be being poisoned or that a councilor might be kidnapped or killed if he held the 'wrong' views?"

The pirate-turned-revolutionary keeps her eyes and ears open to get some sense of what might be going on in the shadows and who may or may not be trustworthy...but she's still too inexperienced in Taldan intrigue to get a decent read on the situation.

Here but a bit behind. Trying to find the time/energy to do a party treasure split. Hey Bimble -

You up for more item crafting? I'm thinking of upgrading Capricia's armor and buckler to +2. That'd be 1,500 gp each at cost or 3,000 gp each at the going rate. Before the latest loot distribution, Capricia's got over 5,000 gp to her name, so it seems likely she'll be able to afford it either way.

PALACE OF BIRDSONG TREASURE LIST
Post #470: magical horseshoes (snagged by Capricia in #473)
Post #513 (more or less): Count Lotheed and 2 lackeys (not sure about treasure here)
Post #532: Count Lotheed’s gear: Two potions, two wands, a belt, his clothes, and a circlet on his forehead. In addition, he seems to carry keys to the palace, the Lotheed signet ring, a spell component pouch, and a spellbook.
Post #577: Thalasou loots guards (no treasure given)
Post #590: The lockbox contains 342 cp, 812 sp, 44 gp, and 18 pp, as well as a mummified pinky finger.
Post #599: a bottle of gin, five potions of cure moderate wounds, two scrolls of sending, and a sustaining spoon. The spoon’s enchantments are unique, producing not flavorless mush but a rotating assortment of rich soups; this unique adaptation increases its value by 1,000 gp.
Post #653: 127 gp, a circlet of persuasion (claimed by Hargus in #658), and a wand of lesser restoration (charges?).
Post #668: a variety of birth certificates, death certificates, newspapers, royal announcements, and travel documents dating back 300 years. You identify the birth certificates (for men named Panivar Lotheed II–VI) as forgeries, while the other papers all feature announcements and sketches related to six men bearing the same name and very similar description.
Post #680: Spellbooks within hold every 1st- and 2nd-level arcane spell, as well as a number of higher-level spells to be studied by advanced students. The space also includes an alchemist’s lab. (Not taken but of interest to Bimble.)
Post #683: wand of dispel magic (13 charges; #690)
Post #718: Lord Titus Lotheed-Casava & two sycophants (not sure we looted them)
Post#751: a set of marvelous pigments, a scroll of alter self, a scroll of animate object, a scroll of deep slumber, a scroll of gentle repose, a scroll of speak with dead, and a scroll of summon monster IV, a belt of mighty constitution +2, boots that are mundane footwear left over from an era when it was fashionable to enchant clothing with a magic aura spell to make them seem more extraordinary.
Post#754: The various bottles and jars here contain 1,500 gp worth of miscellaneous expensive spell components. (We may have left theses behind.)
Post#759: Princess Eutropia thanks each of you personally for their bravery and resourcefulness. She offers payment of 1,000 gp apiece, in addition to letting you keep the Betony estate, if you like. Martella thanks you privately for your discretion in not looting the palace, and rewards you each with a cloak of protection (resistance?) +2.

I went through the Gameplay Thread to compile a list of possible treasures we may have accumulated during our raid on the palace. I guess it’s up to the GM to decide which items count as ‘estate property’ (which, I assume, we’d return to Martella) and perhaps fill in some missing stuff (like minions/guards loot).

I also checked the Discussion Thread but didn’t find any item identifying or the like.

"There seems to be a section of the tower we can't access...maybe there's a secret door," Capricia points out, gesturing to the area to the west. Leaving that area for her friends to examine, the swashbuckler moves into the small room to the northwest and begins to check its south walls for a secret door.

It looks like there's about 10 feet worth of wall there, so I'll make a roll for each 5-foot section, going left-to-right.

Capricia nods at Bimble's direction as she heads to the western double doors and helps Sara search for traps there. Another smile plays upon her lips when she overhears Aerith's quip to the gnome, but inside she's starting to get a bit worried at how long the search for the teleporter is taking.

Auto-success on Perception Check (Aid Another--Sara) to find traps.

Capricia smirks while Sara works.

"I've got pretty sharp eyes and can spot traps just fine...but I don't have a clue how to disable them without springing them," the warrior admits. "I don't know a doohickey from a whoozeymuwhatzit from a...well, let's just say I'm not mechanically inclined!"

Capricia takes charge, leading the party back a ways to a door they'd skipped previously. She tries to help Sara look for any traps on the door.

Capricia Belacrest Perception Check (Aid Another--Sara): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 Auto-Success: +2 to Sara's Perception check.

Moved Capricia's token to the door to the next unexplored area.

"Hmm...what's this?" Capricia moves to the east wall and mouths two words: Secret door. The redhaired fighter then steps aside so Sara can take a quick look for possible traps.

Heh--looks like I had Capricia listening at a window.

How about we check the area(s) to our east (near H16 and H21 on the map)?

Shall I assume you bring in the dead guards as well?

Yep--that was the reason Capricia opened the north door in the first place.

Capricia grimaces briefly when she sees the mummified finger. "Let's keep looking for the teleporter so we can get out of this place!" she whispers to the others.

While Sara works on the lockbox, Capricia slinks to the door at the back of the room and listens for any movement or voices beyond.

Take 20 for a total of 30 before modifiers (listening through door, distance, etc.).

Capricia moves to a nearby door, opens it, and peers inside. If there's no occupant(s), she starts dragging the bodies inside, suggesting that the others start cleaning the bloodstains off the floor.

I'm hoping Sara's got prestidigitation.

Capricia catches a quick glimpse of Bimble and his flag, further boosting her spirits. The swordswoman tries to finish off the guard Eregos/Hargus is battling. Assuming that gets the job done, she scoots past the blinded and magically held guards to cut off any escape.

She'll risk a desperation AoO from the blinded fellow.

Capricia hustles around the corner toward the guards. Seeing them caught flat-footed, the warrior woman bypasses the nearest guard, leaving him for Hargus/Eregos. Her falcata flashes out toward the next man in line (blue).

Surprise Round: Single move action. Round 1: Move and single attack.

Looks like a confirmed crit for 45 damage.

Thalasou is correct - you are starting out of sight. But it sounds like you are ready to charge once he takes a shot, right?

Yep. Capricia is, anyhow.

So...Thalasou fires his crossbow, then Capricia and Hargus lead a rush to engage the guards?
