About a year ago I bought the hardcover collection of all of the rise of the runelords campaign. I haven't been able to give it a good play through, tried twice and never got past the first part(mostly because I couldn't keep a group that didn't end up having scheduling problems). I now have the chance to give it a serious shot and i was wondering if anyone had some tips/ideas to make it a bit smoother for me. This will be the first time ice also actually used pathfinders setting, Golarian, so info on that would be most helpful. I realize there are books on the setting but I cannot afford them as of now. Anything will be appreciated.
This may not belong in this thread and i apologize if that is so. A few months ago my friend came back from an anime convention and he brought me this book (Laying Waste the guidebook to critical combat by TPK games) back as a souvenir. I didnt start using it right away as it is full of tables and i wasnt entirely keen on the idea of trying a new crit system, however im glad i finally changed my mind. I've always disliked the old confirmation reroll rules and had always played with people who disliked it as well so it was houseruled out and we auto-confirmed crits. We also never used fumble charts just relying into the DM to think of an appropriate fail for the occasion. This book however changed all of that! With its multiple tables for different severitys of crits for different weapon types and very cool and interesting crit/fumble descriptions it's has made our games more enjoyable for sure. I had a fellow DM discourage the use of stuff like it saying it really slowed down the action economy to have another book to flip through and more dice then the normal rules to roll for crits, but I haven't seen some of my players as excited about critting as i have since using the book, I even had a player volunteer as the crit book keeper and it's always at his side lol. I'm mostly just giving love to what I think is an awesome book. Curious to see who agrees and maybe other people's house rules for crits/fumbles as well?
I've recently seen a preview for the Ruroni Kenshin live action movie and it made me watch the anime again and got me thinking. I've never liked the Samurai class much, as i like my Ronin samurai more so then fully armored horeback riding ones. My question is does somebody know of a class or archetype I could use? I'm definitely going for more the animes style of fighting, jumping around and being very fast. Also anything to deal specifically with the sword drawing techniques or anything else anyone thinks is relevant would be appreciated. Any 3rd party or 3.X is okay with me.
This is kind of a continuation of the Hunger Games style tournament that I posted about a couple of weeks ago. After that one finished they let the winner decide what the next event would be and the 20th level Mortal Kombat was decided upon. Any race any class within official 3.0-3.5 DnD. I'm going to make a crystalline troll(+5 adjust.) Lv15 fighter. With some nasty armor and toys. What would you make???
Now i realize the norm is lv1, obviously, but I've been playing DnD since i was in 6th grade and have lost count of the number of 1st lv campaigns ive started, or played in that have not lasted farther then lv 4 or 5. Once i got older and out of school it was no easier with players having conflicting job schedules, I've finally got a good group and we've been playing foralmost two years quite consistently once a week. I'm DMing and i started it at lv 14 and did an in depth solo mission with each character giving them a deep personal story, and character development as well as giving me plenty (and i mean plenty) of stuff to use against them later on. Each solo mission gave them a mythic tier as well so needless to say we were badass lol. We play in the forgotten realms setting with the timeline advanced forward from the books series to allow me some room to do what I want.
This upcoming weekend I'll be participating in what sounds like a real fun time, the above mentioned tournament. Really i was just wondering what ideas other people have for characters? I'm hopeing it will be an open map with plenty of room to run around, alas I am not a host and they haven't released much info. Carry on with the ideas if you would.
(I've used alot of R.A. Salvatores books to help set the world for myself and my players, I'm currently only on book 1 of the Companions codex so I would apreciate no spoilers from there on please and thank you!)
