Hey folks, as of about a week ago I now have some new responsibilities as pertains to Pathfinder Society PbP. With this development I've made the decision to further reduce the number of games on my plate to better focus my attention and efforts on Society play and my work there as a volunteer for the Online Region.

I'm sorry. I know that this is really sudden and out of the blue. I'd been considering volunteering for a while now but didn't realize how quickly the process would accelerate once I did. Since we're still so early on in the game my departure hopefully won't cause too much of a hiccup in the plot and hopefully you'll be able to get a replacement for me without too much trouble.

Thank you again to DM Salsa for being willing to GM and to the rest of you for being great players for the time we got to spend together. Good luck with the game and I hope to see all of you around, sometime.

GM:

"Finally, someone talkin' sense," Calli remarks with a sigh of relief. "An' sure thing sir, Ah'll do what Ah can t' help. I think there might've been a couple other folks what could testify too; one of 'em took off after some of th' other goons an' I think two of 'em were tryin' t' see what they could do fer th' ones that got hurt."

Inactive

Hey folks, I'll be heading out of town to DieCon19 and won't return until sometime late Sunday night/early Monday morning. I likely won't have a ton of free time for posting so please feel free to bot me as necessary :)

Calli:

Calli stops and stares; the sensible half of her brain knows that they're just doing their jobs and likely haven't heard much, if anything, about the assassination attempt just yet. But the other half of her brain rankles at being accosted again after trying to do someone a good turn.

"Mah business? Mah BUSINESS!? There's a gad-danged murderin' assassin right behind me an' you're askin' mah business!?"

She throws up her hands.

"Look, Ah ain't goin' nowheres but Ah tried chasin' 'er down and nearly got my gob pushed in and that idiot feller back there wasn't helpin' matters! If ya hurry ya might be able t' catch th' lady 'fore she runs off again."

"And yeah Ah threw th' feller's apples at 'er tryin' t' slow 'er down; Ah already said I'd pay 'im back for 'em but he ain't much inclined t' listen t' reason," she adds.

Inactive

Calli:

"Okay, Ah've had it!"

Perhaps letting her frustration get the better of her Calli uses her powers to reach out and snag a flowerpot off a nearby windowsill before flinging it at the assassin - or perhaps dropping it, as the case may be.

Telekinetic Blast vs. Assassin: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

But as she continues to fail to do any good against the assassin - and with the idiot merchant continuing to get in her way - she finally reaches her breaking point...

"Yeah okay, I'm done, I'm out, y'all have fun!"

...and turns and starts fleeing back the way she came.

The Chase Gets Wild:

Now fighting for what might possibly be her life, Calli's patience is at an end. She tries once more to grab hold of the woman (which might provoke an AoO) and bellows, "FOR THE LOVE OF PETE I'M TRYING TO CATCH A MURDERER, YOU STUPID @$$HOLE! GIVE ME A HAND OR GET ME SOME HELP; I'LL PAY YOU BACK FOR THE APPLES LATER!"

Grapple: 1d20 ⇒ 1
______________

Okay yeah, Calli would rather take this woman alive but she's not much of an up-close-and-personal fighter. If she starts getting shanked and/or this merchant starts trying to slap her around too then she's going to GTFO.

Inactive

Chase: Phase Three:

Without really even thinking Calli barrels toward the lone assassin, arms out to try and catch hold before he has a chance to flee over the fence after his two friends.

"Oh no, yer comin' with me!"

Grapple: 1d20 ⇒ 10

Inactive

Chase: Phase Two:

Acrobatics (DC 12): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Intimidate (DC 17): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Stupid bugger; I'll pay him back later!

Calli weaves effortlessly through the crowd and collars one of the patrons.

"Which way t' th' secret back door!?" she barks. Or at least she tries to. Instead what comes out is more of a coughing squeak - "Which way t' th' sEEEeEcret back door?"

Inactive

"Oh no y'don't! Get back here!"

Chase: Phase 1:

Calli moves to give chase but then spots the angry apple merchant stomping her way, prepared to...well, she wasn't sure what but she sure didn't want to stick around and find out.

Ah damnit, I don't have time for this! Let's see if I can shake him!

Stealth (DC 13): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

Anyone watching barely has time to blink before Calli suddenly dives into the mass of humanity and market stalls and seemingly vanishes!

Inactive

"Son of a succubus!" Calli swears under her breath as the stool misses the mark. In an instant she's on her feet and racing towards the melee as well.

"Hey! Y'all oughta *hrrngh* pick on folks that can fight back!" she yells, skidding to a stop long enough to fling another piece of debris at one of the assassins - this time a sack of apples.

Aether Blast (Extended Range; Into Melee): 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 2 - 4 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
______________

Calli moves 30 feet and accepts another point of burn to apply Extended Range to her blast again~

Inactive

Calli's Surprise Round

"Oh no y'don't!"

Calli taps into the thrum of the crowds around her, the very lifeblood and heart of the city. She draws on this power, using it to pick up a nearby stool that one of the market vendors had been sitting upon and flinging it at one of the assassins!

Aether Blast (Extended Range; Into Melee): 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 2 - 4 = 10
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Of course to everyone else it just looks like a chair suddenly takes flight, as though possessed by a ghost...
______________

Calli will accept 1 point of burn to apply the Extended Range infusion to her aether blast, allowing her to target enemies up to 120 ft. away~

Inactive

I'm a little confused, do we all get a Surprise Round or just Jeram?

Inactive

Calli shrugs. "Nah, I didn't see anyone. But come t' think of it I did see some folks skulkin' about through th' stalls an' such a minute ago."

"Don't see 'em now, though," she adds as she takes another look around.

So I had to ponder what the heck sort of strange clothes Grundians might wear that would make them stand out. Romani-style attire (or at least the bright colors) were a possibly but then it hit me.

Steampunk.

Grundians totally wear the more practical (aka not sexy) steampunk styles except maybe with a few less gears and cogs...unless they're an actual engineer or something.

Maybe something like this for regular attire and this hat but in black.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Inactive

Ooh...I...guess maybe I should have changed my clothes first before I started wandering around out here...

Although she'd never really been out of Grundy before Calli had heard tales and whispers that sometimes folks from Grundy weren't always the most of welcome of visitors to other towns. She'd thought they were exaggerating, stories made up to keep curious young children from leaving home and getting into trouble.

Point for you, mom. I'll bring you a cake from Tiers of Joy next time I come home...if I *make* it home again.

Suddenly self-conscious of the staring and whispers, Calli pulls her hat down a little further and tries to look as inconspicuous and non-threatening as possible...but without much success. So focused is she on this that she nearly jumps out of her skin when the young man approaches and greets her.

"Waaaah!"

Her yelp does her no favors in trying to avoid attracting more attention and her cheeks flush with a faint pink as she tries to recollect some of her dignity.

"Greetins'," Calli nods in reply. "Uh...no, Ah'm not really lost but Ah'm, uh...new...here. Sorry for shriekin' like that. You caught me thinkin' an' not payin' attention to mah surroundins'."

Inactive

Though the markets of Grundy were fair and the town saw its share of travelers Calli couldn't help but admit that Widewaters was something else entirely.

Look at it all! Why didn't I come here sooner?

So enamored is she by the sights that she briefly forgets where she's even at and very nearly bowls over an old, squat woman out perusing the markets with what must be her little granddaughter.

"Sorry, sorry! Ah'm new!" Calli calls over her shoulder at the mortified woman, tipping her hat in apology and trying not to return the grin the little girl is giving her. Still, she can feel the warmth in her cheeks as she hurries on, weaving through the crowds.

Whoops...that's a sure a way as any to stand out, stand around and gawk like a fool. Pay attention Calli, there's opportunities out here with your name on 'em!

After scooting through the crowds Calli's eyes light up as she spots a small fountain in what appears to be a central plaza just up ahead. She heads over and takes a seat on the wide, flat rim of it in order to catch her breath and get a better look at the market as a whole.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Inactive

Also, Calli has an archetype: Terrakineticist. Long story short, trades out some power for versatility as Calli's element and abilities shift according to her location - much like a ranger's favored terrain.

Inactive

Woo...I am so sorry it took me so long to answer these!

@Calli:

1. How did the sheriff react when you showed up to become a deputy?

Probably a mixture of amused, appreciative, and maybe even a little worried. Calli's got a good heart but she's a bit on the impatient, temperamental side of things. Her power over elements would've been seen as a handy boon to have around, provided she can keep her temper in check.

As an aside, I don't see the law enforcement of Grundy or the general populace being literal superheroes among heroes. More along the lines that you just might have more hero material that comes out Grundy than usual; the local schoolmarm might also be a sorceress, the town doctor might be able to see/talk to ghosts, the local crackpot might actually have legit oracle powers, that sort of thing.

2. Are there a lot of smugglers that come through Grundy?

Hmm...given its position on the outer edges of Talendar and location on the river then I would say yes. Or rather, a lot of them probably try. Their cargo would likely play a big factor in whether the law...well...lays down the law or not. Things such as drugs or people for slave markets (if any such exist in Talendar or across the border) would be dealt with pretty harshly but refugees being smuggled into town or things of that sort...I imagine the law would probably largely turn a blind eye to it. Grundy's current management and mayor are loyal to Talendar but at the same time...well, they're a border/frontier town so sometimes things are allowed to fly that might not be allowed in the capital.

3. What about Calli's family? How do they see all of this?

Ooh. I think that mom worries about her and the dangers of her job and would do so even if Calli didn't have the abilities that she has. Dad - much to mom's irritation and chagrin - also worries some but deep down thinks the whole thing is fantastic and is very proud of her. Little brother thinks it's cool but also sometimes has some jealous feelings since there's nothing extraordinary about him at all.

(I'll come up with proper names for all the family in time.)
______________

In addition to answers to the above questions Calli's profile is complete aside from needing some formatting to improve readability and getting her taglines set up. As always, please let me know if there are any questions or anything that I've missed or if something seems screwy!

Inactive

Howdy, SR! Nice to see another familiar face :)

I've been out of town but should be back home today by early afternoon. I'll try and get those questions answered and the rest of Calli's 'crunch' done then.

Inactive

I've got a very rough working background now; had to leave things a little vague for fleshing out as we go but it should be serviceable. Inspiration for the town taken from a homebrew game I was briefly in that died when the GM disappeared. It's a little silly but you usually don't seem to mind silly!

Still need to get her actual crunch done but that shouldn't take me long at all tonight.

Inactive

Thanks DM and I really do appreciate the invite. Maybe once the weather warms a bit and work calms down I'll start feeling a little more like my usual self.

DM Salsa:

And thank you for the offer of a sympathetic ear. I might take you up on that a bit later if things don't improve.

If you don't mind, would you please move my aliases (Calli/Lady L) to inactive when you get a chance? Just trying to keep my campaigns page as tidy as I can manage, heh.

Inactive

Hey guys...

I've been noodling things over a little more in my mind and as much as I hate to do this, I think I'm actually going to bow out. Not due to any issues with you, DM, or any of the players, but because I'm already looking into adding one new long-term game to my dance card and even that might be a bit of a stretch for me as it is. Adding two would probably be irresponsible at this juncture - especially since I've been struggling some with what's likely low-grade depression as of late, which has made it more difficult than usual to post for the games that I already have.

I hate springing this after we've already spent some time talking about/working on characters but I wanted to speak up before the game actually starts and it becomes even harder to work a character into and out of the game :(

Please let me know if there's anything that I need to do before going, otherwise I'll wish you guys a good game and hope to see you around on the boards in the future :)

Inactive

Hah! No, nothing there that'd offend me :3

Inactive

Haven't forgotten this, have just been busy with an oddball work schedule. I'll try and get Calli's background written up tomorrow and then she should be ready :)

Inactive

I am amenable to both of those ideas :D

Inactive

Hum...I figured that Calli, if not a longtime resident of Iron Bay, has at least lived there for the past several years. I'm kinda picturing someone that's got a rather varied and colorful past work history, having to switch occupations from time to time whether as a result of her drinking, her mouth getting her into trouble, or just the fickle finger of fate. So trying to join and/or set up some sort of adventuring company is exactly the sort of thing she'd do :3

Inactive

If you like to give your critters (talking ACs, eidolons, familiars) some personality then I find it helps to give them their own separate alias and profile. Of course alias bloat is always a concern; I've gotten to the point where I try to recycle old aliases as much as possible!

For summoning, I don't make individual aliases but I have one set alias 'Summoned Buddy' that I post with and I just have the different summon options I like to summon on the profile under spoiler tags.

Inactive

^Thank you! I admit, the oracle addition was not originally part of the plan but when perusing the forums for some insight as to potential feats and the like, I came across a post that suggested pairing Drunken Sensei + Lore Oracle dip as something of a Jack Sparrow-type concept. Dex is tanked all to heck which is pretty odd for a monk but getting charisma-to-AC and Reflex via the Sidestep Secret revelation balances it out - plus the crappy Dex actually works with the 'fluff' for a drunken monk :)

As for taking more oracle levels, I'm not sure. Right now I'm leaning prooooobably not but the idea isn't completely out of the question. I just hope it actually 'plays' effectively since she's not really going to be a huge dealer of damage on her own.

Inactive

Okay, I decided to try something kinda funky with my build but I've got Calli's rough statblock posted on her profile page now. Still need to format it to be easier to read and I need to do background and stuff but it's a start. Feel free to look it over and let me know if you've got any questions so far :)

Inactive

Level 2: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Level 3: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Level 4: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Level 5: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Level 6: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Not terrible!

Inactive

Calli's 'build' idea trades away some of the standard frontline oomph that a monk gets for supportive stuff - such as Advice which basically functions as a bard's Inspire Courage. That could be a lot of fun if DAA wants to play with summoning :D

Inactive

Max HP at first level then do the rolls after that, then?

(This is Lady L. btw)

Inactive

Thanks again, guys! GM, whenever you get a chance if you'd mark Calli inactive I would appreciate it :)

Inactive

Aww...of course you can have flowers! How about sunflowers? :D

And yeah, funny thing is that lately I've actually gotten good about avoiding random recruitment threads but I'm a sucker for direct invitations so yeahhhh....gotta get better at turning those down, too.

Inactive

Hey folks, this isn't 100% related to the most recent happenings in my life but it *has* given me time to think on things a bit and I've come to the decision that I need to lighten my PbP load by a few games. It's been a slow process but I think I've taken on more than I can really handle right now and the stress of trying to keep up with them all is starting to have a negative impact on my mood and capability to write. Rather than have all of my games suffer for it, I'd rather let a few go so I can better focus on the ones that remain (and have a little more free time for other hobbies again, too).

It wasn't an easy decision to make (like picking among my non-existent children) but I believe this is one that I'm going to bow out of. It's been a fun game and a hilarious game and I hate to do it so soon after adding Vretiel and Iskra to the party. On the other hand, I think even without Calli you guys have a pretty strong and balanced group so hopefully my dropping won't really shake things up too much. And hey, it'll give Nebten a chance to figure out how to kill her off give her a graceful exit from the game right?

It's been a pleasure playing with everyone and I hope our paths will cross again in the future, hopefully under better circumstances for me :)

Inactive

Sorry for being away for so long folks; my work schedule has lightened up like I expected it to after Friday but then I ended up testing positive for the flu yesterday and then my granny passed away this morning. Since I'm effectively house-bound until I get better I'll probably still be able to post but if they seem more subdued then that'll be why.

Inactive

Whoops, guess I'm late to the party!

"Well...least we know where th' stupid baby-demon got off to," Calli sighs after having been absolutely no help in the battle. "Ah'm glad it's here an' not back in town, though..."

Inactive

I hate to do this right as I've instigated a little side-trip in-game but I'm going to be pulling 12s at work for the next three days so you may not see much in the way of posts from me during that time. I'll try to check in/keep up as much as I can but it may not be until Friday night or Saturday before I'll get caught up. As always, feel free to bot me for combat/skill checks as needed!

Inactive

"Y'know, Belhaim here was havin' a problem with wolves an' such - just hadn't had much time ta' look into it. But now with that dire wolf dead Ah bet that problem is taken care of," Calli points out. "Ah think it was Abrassus Ranch what needed reportin' to on th' matter. Can always heard over there right quick 'fore it gets much later an' tell them th' news."
____________

Calli will make a detour to the ranch; any and everyone is welcome to tag along if they want!

Inactive

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

"Ah dunno...do snakes skitter? 'Cause that sounds like skitterin', like a bug or somethin'..."

Calli shrugs. "If y'all wanna go rest up an' come back tomorrah then Ah guess we can do that. Y'all know better 'bout yer spells an' hoodoo powers than Ah do."

Inactive

"Woo! We sure showed them!" Calli whoops as the remaining wolf flees into the woods. "We're just solving problems left an' right, ain't we!?"

She gets up from the ground and dusts herself off. "Ah'm fine here so don't worry 'bout me. Let's get everyone else patched up an' get on out to them caves! Ah got a good feelin' 'bout it now," she says as she bounces from foot to foot, clearly still experiencing the adrenaline rush of combat.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Inactive

I finally grappled something....I'm so happy *sniff*

Would've been even cooler if it had been the bear, but a dire wolf is pretty cool too :D

Inactive

Choosing to focus on the dire wolf, Calli takes a step forward and attempts to leap onto his back and wrestle him to the ground!

Grapple vs. Dire Wolf (Advice; Improved Grapple): 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 20

"Ya ain't th' only critters what can put someone or somethin' on th' ground, ya damn dirty dog!"
___________

Attempting to grapple and maintaining Advice as a free action!

Inactive

"Hah! We ain't easy prey like these poor sods were," Calli grins as she steps forward to shield Vretiel from possible attack. "We've done fought demons an' devils, so a few oversized dogs ain't nothin'!"
_____________

Calli moves up and activates Advice as a standard action. Also: harhar :P

Inactive

Once it appears that they're in the clear for the moment, Calli follows the others as they move closer to inspect the bodies.

Heal: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Survival: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

"Eyuck...Ah can't make heads or tails of this but mebbe Alex or one'a you mage types can," she grimaces.

Inactive

*sigh* Got called in to work today, so just bot me as needed. I'll catch up when I get home tonight.

Inactive

"Damnation! Ain't there a way to turn that shock trap off or somethin'!?" Calli snarls as Iskra takes the same shock Iulia had taken only a day or two before.

Inactive

"Ah dunno," Calli sighs. "Sounds like somethin' changed though...just not sure iffin' what changed was in his own head or mebbe if there really was somethin' else goin' on around here that got his dander up. Mebbe peepin' through this telescope will give us an idea...or checkin' out those secret caves."

Inactive

"Hay, that's pretty good thinkin' there Spider!" Calli grins, giving her companion a friendly slap on the back. "Let's go see if we can find what ol' Hunclay wanted ta' look at an' mebbe see if that zebub critter is still lurkin'. Then Ah guess it's off to them caves!"

Inactive

"Mebbe he was plannin' fer somethin' later an' didn't want no one ta know he was involved with it," Calli finally speaks up, looking rather unhappy at the prospect. "Easier ta claim that iffin' the tower just happened to fall in on itself due ta th' passin' of time an' not because it was knocked down."
