Gang - just a heads up my staffy mutt has been having some intermittent lameness issues that we've investigated with an MRI - turns out he has some spinal disc misalignment that are pinching nerves - so he needs pretty invasive op to give him longevity of movement.

Got that scheduled for 13th of this month, but been dealing with the news and decision has left me and the missus emotionally and mentally spent.

Hopefully get back at it o'er the weekend, but please bot Bulvarius as needed in the meantime.

Bulvarius too takes his leave, a concerned frown worn on his features;

An investigation into the townsfolk would not be without challenge...

"I tethered my aspirations to the Order of The Pike to challenge monsters and titans... and gain renown. Witchhunts and inquisitions? That is the Pyre's remit, not mine... and one that rarely ends well."

Rubbing a hand over his cropped hair, the Hellknight aspirant bids you all a good night.

The foreboding warning from Ameiko in facing the bugbear seems instead to pique the young Hellknight's interest, as the revelry surrounding him fades to grandiose thoughts of glory;

Bruthazmus... A worthy foe. One to make a name storied...

Esgean's toast the group brings him back to the room, and he raises his own cup in quiet acknowledgment.

The Hellknight-in-training nods in agreement;

"Indeed. The more we know of our foes, the better we shall be in combatting them..."

He turns to Sergyn;

"When you speak with your old master can you also enquire on any tomes or writings pertaining to legendary monsters of this region? While battle gobkin and the like hones the skill, my true purpose lies in battling those perilous creatures and I would kenning more of their habits."

Apologies gang - RL has been kicking my proverbial backside. Getting my feet clear now tho...

Bulvarius sits picking over his meal, eating frugally - enough to fuel the body but not weigh it down. He listens intently to voices familiar from a battle shared and new.

The armiger leant back in his seat, his brow furrowed;

"Aye Master Dapper, would make sense to check those spots - as much for their fortification as to if they hold clues to the goblyns collective purpose..."

He mulls his words, recalling what the elven ranger had imparted;

"Could it be this bugbear Bruthazmu - who is the messenger for this pervading evil? Shalelu said it trades with all of the tribes... Could it be the creature also brokers news or instruction..? When we are free of Hemlock's duties perhaps it is with that blaggard we should start?"

Bulvarius listens intently, his broad brow furrowing at the notion of the goblins being organised...

"Big plans require big bosses"... Something to test mettle and metal against perhaps...

When talk turns of their role in the Sherriff's stead, the Aspirant of the Pike's brow turns to a frown;

"Lady Whitehall has a point. What powers do we have? Do you mean to formally deputise us Sheriff? Should those grave robbers return are we empowered to administer justice as we see fit... As a Hellknight Armiger I will not baulk at punishing the unlawful, but there are those who may take umbrage at my administering of The Chain..."

Bulvarius nods gravely at the news and words exchanged;

"My condolences for your loss Maester. Brave? Some would say too brave for my own good... And while goblins make poor fare for my renown, they will do well enough to hone my pikework and tactical acumen. As Mistress Eyre says when we face the true monsters of this wild realm I wish to be ready."

At the introductions to Esgean, Rejke and Marbyn the heavyset young warrior nods and bows in greeting;

"Well met my friends. I am Bulvarius of Korvosa's noble House Bromathan. An aspirant of the Order of the Pike I seek beasts and monsters of legend to test my skill and spear-point against... If any of you know of such creatures I would love to hear your lore."

He smiles ackwardly, his deep crimson Hellknight leather creaking as he leans against his towering longspear.

Bulvarius allows the notion of grave-robbery and risen dead to slide from his focus - those who committed such acts would be served just retribution soon enough...

At the mention of an Elf, he nods - perhaps the portents this Shalelu would bring may (gods willing) relate to foes worthy of his pike and burgeoning repute...

The burly Armiger hefted his spear and followed in the Sheriff's wake.

Hey Al - sounds rough man... needless to say take your time and we'll keep. Fingers crossed the legal eagles come through for you.

"Kirk," (which Bulvarius used) for those who don't know North Germanic languages, is "church." It's not a big deal, I just found it entertaining to share.

Also what we call our churches here in North of Scotland :)

Bulvarius leans against his pike, mulling the situation with a furrowed brow;

"So grave robbers then? Was he buried with kirk valuables... or vestments of his office?"

Bulvarius flashes a hard smile at Kemras' comment;

"Let the fates send us its worst my friend, how else will be earn our names and places in the great songs and stories."

As the skeletons are overcome, the big Hellknight Aspirant lowers his braced spear with a frown;

Note to self: A bludgeoning weapon would be best against such foes...

Peering into the tomb he comments on the lack of one key content:

"Huh. No goblin-ghouls..."

There is lint of disappointment in the warriors voice.

Bulvarius follows the others, happy for them to use their skills.

At the notion of goblin's eating corpses he grimaces;

"Goblin ghouls perhaps? Who knows that those little devils come across..."

At the group's theories the big Hellknight-Aspirant questions the Sheriff;

"Do we know which priests tomb was desecrated? If so what was their background... and cause of death?"

The news from Father Zanthus gives Bulvarius pause from his breakfast and elicits an eager nod from the Hellknight Aspirant;

"Perhaps those dead goblyns have risen anew for another tilt at us! If it is a problem concerning the undying, then we will send them to the Boneyard again... More fame to add to our storied fame eh my friends!"

He rises, leather creaking despite the daily oiling it recieved as part of his dawn drilling and exercises. He reaches for pack and pike...

"Let us not keep the good Sheriff waiting..."

Bulvarius enjoys the feast, but also tries to recall what he knows of the Foxgloves;

The armiger assesses Master Kaijitsu, his face hardening as the dignitary attempted to pour scorn upon the group's valour.

He rises slowly joining Joanna, ire and menace clear in his voice;

"Ware your words sir, should you continue to cast doubt upon the proficiency we showed upon the field I would deem it necessary to give you a personal demonstration. Now begone from our presence before you force me to forget my manners..."

Intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Nah nothing extra from Bulvarius

Bulvarius the Brave rubs his chin in mock thought;

"We could have... Tho' as the monster is invisible, perhaps it lies slain and unseen somewhere within the town... with its invisible treasure!"

As the group face the crowd, Bulvarius listens to the words and praise with pride.

Bulvarius the Brave. I like that. It befits.

He looks to his companions...

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

... his gaze lingering on Sara.

The big Hellknight aspirant places a gloved hand on her shoulder with a reassuring squeeze;

"Worry not friend Sara. Share your troubles and the burden will be lighter."

Bulvarius stoops with a broad smile;

"30 wretched Goblins... It could have been lad, we did lose count in the midst of battle... Our hands were gripping swords, loosing bows and casting spells... No time to use them to count up the horrible goblins we felled."

He chuckles and ruffles the lads hair with a gloved hand;

"Next time we'll keep count... just for you."

Bulvarius walks alongside his newfound companions, nodding at Sara's words;

"Remember Lady Audra it is the final blow that matters. May it be pike, spell or slingstone."

Bulvarius takes the healing with gratitude and a hard smile;

"My thanks friend Kemras. Next time I shall endeavour not to be set alight and roasted like a hog in iron."

The would be Hellknight does not even cast an eye o'er the loot recovered from the goblin raiders, instead taking satisfaction from the recognition offered by the townsfolk, whilst agreeing with the sentiment of food;

"Good deeds are their own reward... But I would not say no to some fine fare and toast to our victory this day!"

Indeed - having fun at a pace that works and also looking forward to finding Bulvarius' "voice".

Bulvarius accepts the noble's congratulations, then sighs inwardly;

Felled by mere goblins. How am I to face the creatures and beasts of legend when mre goblins have the better of me.

He runs a singed glove over his cropped scalp faint leaving streaks of soot.

I fell... and yet I rose. And retribution was mine.

The Hellknight aspirant approaches his companions, attempting to recall what he knows of the Foxglove noble house;

Knowledge (Nobility): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

"A touch of healing would be most welcome friend Kemras."

Mirthlessly Bulvarius pulls forth his pike from the downed goblin mount and shifts backward (5ft Step) before ramming his spear into the nearby goblin (Standard Action - Reach Melee) vs Pink;

Reach Melee Attack - Cold Iron Longspear (+Inspire Courage): 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 1 = 19
Longspear Damage (P): 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 = 11

As the fell creature gnaws upon his arm, Bulvarius winces and steps backward giving himself momentary respite (5ft Step)

Buoyed by Joanna's song he steels himself and attempts to skewer the monster! (Standard Action - Melee Reach Attack)

"Let me unite you with your craven rider in the Boneyard oh wretched creature!"

Reach Melee Attack - Cold Iron Longspear (+Inspire Courage): 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 1 = 19

Bulvarius moves forward with intent (10ft Move) and brings his pike to bear on the goblin-rider (Melee Standard Action);

As Sara rushes forward, Bulvarius gives himself room to bring his pike to bear (5ft Step), then attempts to skewer another of the wretched creatures;

Seeing yet another loyal hound lose its life brings a steely gaze to the aspiring hellknight's eyes.

Nodding, he follows Joanna's charge, hustling within range of the lead goblin (30ft Move Action)

"Fight on Lady Whitehall! I stand with you!"

Mirthlessly he brings his pike to bear against the same goblin Joanna targeted (Melee Attack Action vs Yellow);

Melee (Reach) - Cold Iron Longspear: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Ideally Bulvarius gets the healing :) am indeed down 7

As his wounds are healed, the big cavalier nods his thanks to Kemras;

"My thanks... Mistress Whitehall has the right of it... We help because we can. There is no wrong in doing right."

He hefts his longspear and joins Joanna in heading toward the scream at pace.

As Joanna steps into the breach, Bulvarius counters by skirting round the nearby tree (20ft Move Action)

As the goblin continues to taunt, the warrior levels his pike and mirthlessly runs the creature through (Melee Reach Attack - Standard Action);

"Quiet wretch!"

Flanking Melee - Cold Iron Longspear: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 2 = 20

Longspear Damage (P): 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Bulvarius surveys his own countenance, noting the charred quality of his Hellknight leather.

Perhaps Valdur was right, flame redeems and restores...

Hefting his longspear, the warrior moves forward with purpose, coming to a stop where he can bring his pike to bear.

Double Move Action to threaten the gob

Bulvarius' eyes flicker and open.

Smell of burning... tang of... blood

The hellknight aspirant groans and rises to his feet. He stoops, collecting his longspear with a nod of his head toward Joanna.

"M'Lady. My thanks. What have I missed? Are the foul goblyns repelled?"

Move Action to rise. Move Action to pick up longspear

@GM: Know I'm jumping the gun but just incase I get bogged down with work over the next day or so...

Round 5

Angry and aflame, Bulvarius lets the last laugh fade then stands (Move Action, provokes AoO), drawing his arming sword as he rises (free with a Move) Reflex Save (DC15): 1d20 ⇒ 15... as the flames expire.

Ah mate - my condolences also to you and yours.

Round 3

As an arrow thuds home into the dog butcher, Bulvarius nods inwardly;

Good archery. They'll do well peppering my foes when I face greater monsters in glorious combat...

He shifts forward (5ft Step) attempting to skewer the wretched creature;

Melee: Longspear (Inspire Courage): 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 4 + 1 = 20
Damage (Cold-Iron, P): 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10

Round 2

Bulvarius twists his wrist and the skewered goblin slides off his pike.

As Joanna engages the goblin nearest, the Hellknight aspirant moves forward with purpose (Double Move)... ending with his longspear levelled toward the goblin attacking the dead dog.

He scowls and readies himself for the feckless creature's attention...

Noble hound. I shall avenge thee!

(Making sure I'm 10ft away from dog-killer so it'll enter my threat zone should it come forward)

As the goblins swarm around the assembled revellers, Bulvarius' scowls as one of the wretched creatures sends sparks flying.

"Foul creature! I am a servant of the Order of the Pike! How dare the likes of you challenge one such as I!"

The warrior calmly shifts backward 5ft Step, giving himself space to bring his pike to bear, then mirthlessly impales the creature!

Damage (P): 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Bulvarius' face darkens at the story behind the cathedral;

"Egads, how horrific! Would seem monsters are men also..."

At Kemras' words he rubs his broad chin;

"I know little of the ways of faith... save a cursory service as a child, to which I paid little heed! How so is this new cathedral unusual Master Iuvescanu?"

As Robbik rises to leave, Bulvarius claps his shoulder with a nod;

"My thanks old timer, here something for your time... I'll give The Devil your regards when it becomes acquainted with my spearpoint!"

He leans in, pressing a gold coin into the palm of the man before letting him go upon his way.

Bulvarius takes in the man's account with growing interest, before jabbing a gauntleted hand toward his own chest;

"While many others have tried, this good man has never went after it auld timer. Tell me what does the beast look like? I would know its likeness and manner."
