![]() Hey guys. I am so sorry. I work in healthcare and people are being let go that don't want to get the vaccine and I am having to cover down on things. Not saying I agree with that or whatever just the way it is. Until something changes I just can not do this on a regular basis. If someone wants to pick up where I left off please feel free and I will do what ever I need to do on my end to facilitate that. ![]()
![]() "Horses maybe too noisy for this mission." Borag says plainly as you arrive to camp. Many Hanataz rush to your party to hear news of what was negotiated. Borag looks back to you."Seek out Selvra and deal with that issue quickly. Some of the others may have some advice as well, but do not linger in camp too long." If there are some basic equipment items you would like to have, members of the camp will supply them within reason. Large items may require a persuasion or given as a loan. ![]()
![]() "Hmmpf. Figures they'd show up. I guess its time to share some of the less savory secrets of the cities we visit. The Butchers fancy themselves a bit of a crime family. They have some legitimate businesses and even a member on the council, Odil. A few Darktide's Eves ago, Brayan was challenged to a fist fight by Gwen Butcher. She was good, but Brayan made her look foolish. He isn't called the Blind Wind for nothin'. So might have something to do with that maybe some petty revenge, or an attempt to steal what they could. Nevermore has gotten a lot more desperate since last we were in these parts." History DC 10:
You recall Brayan The Blind Wind facing off against Gwen. She was a big brutish human woman, but she might have been touched because her proportions seemed unnatural. She charged and swung wildly at Brayan, but never landed a single blow. He constantly shifted her momentum and landed her in the dirt. Brayan made jokes at her expense and sent her into a rage. The butchers left with their pride wounded. "Yes, dem be the ones! You being a forest lass should be a good choice to deal with 'em I be thinkin'." Borag looks at Rooks and nods. ![]()
![]() Nilelane: You follow them unseen through crowds for a short distance. They go into a seedy tavern with a wooden sign over the door that reads Butcher's Place. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 you recall one of the prominent families in Nevermore are the Butchers. They are also known in the underworld for production of narchems (dangerous alchemicals/drugs) and moonshineing. Rumor is they run the "Shiners" a local gang of moonshiners and narchemists. ![]()
![]() Borag emerges from the council doors. He is trying to hide the fact that he is smiling, but you know him too well. "Lets go my Zytas! Good job watching the wagon." He whispers in an excited tone. Beyond him you see council members staring back at Borag. Some scowling with their arms crossed, some smiling cheerfully. Nilelane:
You hear Ghost's story and you have a bizarre sensation of deja vu. Parts of her story you remember from dreams you have had the past few nights. Once you load back onto the wagons and head out of town Borag speaks. "We got a prime location! But with one simple task ahead of us. Shroomskins have taken over part of where they want us to set up. We clear them out, we get the spot. Tax free! I told them my Zytas are up to the task! Rooks I want you on point for this one. Ghost, Woyzeck and Nilelane you back her up. Not sure why they have come so close to town and away from their territory, but not our problem. They don't belong here and if we don't clear them out the town has already sent for mercs to do it for 'em. " He pauses to look over the party. "Selvra might have some idea on how to deal with them. Talk to her when we get back to the rest. We will remain camping at our spot for tonight and move in once you report back to us. Be careful while out there, a huge angry bear with red eyes was reported wandering the forest last night. A woodsmen was reporting it to the council while I was in there. After our run in with the Fay'Aree I don't want to take any chances, but the faster you get this done the faster we get to making coin." ![]()
![]() Shandra makes a face at Rooks and stomps off like a spoiled teenager.
GM Screen:
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 Rooks and Woyzeck:
Once Shandra is away from the wagons. A man with a cloak is speaking with her. Shandra is pointing at the wagons and they seem to be arguing. The man grabs her by the wrist and walks her takes her through the crowd towards a less savory part of town. Rooks understands that he was probably trying to separate the wagon from its protectors, but Woyzeck is probably too dense to get all that. Correct italics is usually mental or to differentiate something. In this case mental communication. "THIS IS MY FINAL OFFER OR I TAKE THE HANATAZ AND WE WILL RIDE TO LIMEROCK!" Borag pronounces so loudly that the entire street around the townhall stops for a second to ponder what is being discussed inside.
Ghost: "Bruzandian will not hibernate. It will feed this winter until it is sated. T'svaria will let nature be and not react, except to punish me if I ever return. ![]()
![]() "How about you show me what you can do with those muscles? Are you a strongman at the Carnivalle? That is so impressive! My name is Shandra, what is yours handsome?" The woman continues to swoon over Woyzeck. The raised voices you heard from inside quiet down a bit. As Woyzeck puffs himself up some curious onlookers do take interest at a distance. You see several constables escort the mysterious Fay'Aree that tried to kidnap Brother Liam the night before. They have them in shackles and are putting them in a stockade in front of common area approx. 100 yards from the party. On lookers curse and throw things at them.
Nilelane/Rooks: Due to your background/class you recognize now stripped of her cloak that the Fay'Aree is dressed as a priestess of Verdus, Lord of the Forest. Likely the locals are not aware of this as it is subtle items in their dress you recognize. ![]()
![]() You are good to post Nilelane. Currently the players are watching wagons outside the town council while senior members negotiate the terms of Carnivalle. I think criminal background ill let you keep the 15gp. Which also accounts for you missing the first scene as you probably kept a low profile in town initially. ![]()
![]() The boys shove the Fay'Aree out of the alley and she stumbles at first, then runs away in tears. The boys mocking her as she runs. A patrolling constable scolds the boys and they run away chuckling to themselves. Inside you hear some voices elevated. Nothing you haven't heard before from Borag though. A young human woman walks by and takes a liking to Woyzeck. "My you are a strong one. What kind of performances do you do at the carnivalle?" She is an attractive woman with long dark hair and brown eyes with olive skin. Insight 12: The woman seems genuine, but you have worked carnivalle long enough to recognize this is an act. Likely she is hoping to manipulate Woyzeck for some purpose or to pick his pockets. ![]()
![]() The wagons get loaded and you park out front of the Town Council. Its a long tall building in the center of town. The streets are filled with people today, but they are pretty quiet and most do not look your way. The city guard is very vigilant and asks to see all of your faces for accountability before allowing Borag and the seniors enter. "Ok my Zyatis, just stay out here. You may hear things get a bit heated in there, but remain out here with our things. " Borag says and the big man pushes the doors open and struts inside. GM Screen:
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16 The rest of you are watching the wagons and horses. Nothing of significance so far. Rooks: You notice two young boys, one human the other a dwarf. They have cornered a young Fay'Aree in an alley a few blocks away and look to be intimidating her. It is too far to hear the conversation, however the body language is pretty obvious that they are trying to get her to leave the area. ![]()

![]() Feel free to use skills without prompting. I will post some things in spoilers, but don't let that stop you from interacting with NPCs/PCs how ever you would like. I am not sure what you mean by chance to act in-character. Please do that as often as possible. Your job will be to watch the wagons while the seniors of the Hanataz discuss the specifics of the Carnivalle. So what would your character do in that scenario? Would they muse to others about how boring it is? Whistle at ladies walking by? Perhaps practice some skill for the Carnivalle? Some ideas. Recruitment. I suppose I can attempt it. My experience with the boards is this is usually futile, but I will make the effort. I may offer you a proper NPC since Ichabod has left. ![]()
![]() After allowing time for you all to do your morning rituals, Borag asks that you all meet again in the feast area. Father Zyas has a nice breakfast prepared. "Word is the guard are doubled, pulling double shifts. They are going to be wary of us in town. Lets just keep to the task and get to setting up for the Carnivalle. Our meeting should not take long, just watch the wagons and horses." Borag says inbetween bites of his breakfast. After the next scene you won't be in town again for a while. The Hanataz does have most basic items, but if there is something special you want you may want to get it before we go on. ![]()
![]() "I...my memory is a bet hazy to be sure. Constable if there are no more questions I would like to retire to my room." Brother Liam says to Ghost. Medicine DC 10:
Liam looks pale and is sweaty. This is something more serious than just being tired from a long day. "Thank you for that analysis Ghost. I am sure it is no news to you that several other kidnappings have occurred in our town of late. With similar circumstances. As far as the question of why did the Fay'Aree wait I think I can answer that. They seem to like to have loved ones of their victims follow them, and then ensnare them also once outside the city walls. I don't think they expected Father Zyas would have such a large team of capable people with him though, but we believe Father Zyas was the real target. I will be honest with you, I do not suspect you in this, but some in town disagree with me. I am sure you are aware that your type attracts attention and prejudice. " He takes a pause and looks at Brother Liam. "I have no more questions for you Brother Liam" The constable then looks at the party for a moment.

![]() So I was thinking the other attackers could be illusions. That way blood is not shed, but the combat retains its integrity and level of seriousness. Does that suffice? I am trying to be more descriptive in my posts. If you could all also post more than one sentence would also help move things along. What is your character Doing Saying or Thinking? ![]()
![]() Round 3
Ichabod/Ghost: About 60 feet from you near a residence you see the Fay'Aree for a brief moment. It summons a ring using and enters it with Liam and disappears. You are not certain what spell this is, but the ring is still there 60' from you. ![]()
![]() Apologies it has been awhile since I have used these forums and just realized when I post with my phone its not clear that there has been discussions in this tab. I was botting Sam because I was not seeing posts in game play. 24 hour to post or I will bot is generally how I do things to keep it moving. The format already moves at a snails pace so I try to keep things going. I have not tried the block way before, but I can try that if you prefer it. You can post an action outside your initiative and I will plug you in as I have been doing. I realize now that some of you were not from my initial interest check where we discussed some of this. ![]()

![]() Borag smiles at you all. You are all excited, yes? Don't worry little Rooks you are most welcome with my friend, Father Zyas. Borag says and looks at Ghost when he says the name. Participation in the feasts will be fine if they offer, but they also appreciate the hard work that comes from preparing such a feast so I would offer help in that regard if you plan on enjoying their feast. Borag looks solemnly at Sammy. No, that sort of thing is not common. At least it wasn't. We have heard rumors lately of foul things happening and best we keep to ourselves while here as much as possible and watch our own. Ichabod:
When Borag mentions foul things, you remember an incident that traveled far and wide last year regarding a member of the Butcher Family being arrested for suspicion of murder, but it could not be proven. He is now a member of the town council. Borag leads the way through the city. You get stares from people and children clap and jump up and down pointing with excitement knowing that your arrival in town marks the start of Carnivalle and Winterfeast. Father Zyas greets you. He is a balding Dwarf with a very round belly and a wide smile. He gives Borag a big hug and puts a goblet of a strong smelling spirit in his hand. Welcome Friends! Hanataz! Carnivalle! Fuffan be praised!

![]() Thank you all for your backgrounds. I based my decision on best background on how much about the person do I know from this background? I feel based on the background that I know more about Rooks than the others so congratulations to Rooks. Honorable mentions to Ghost for your obvious writing ability and style of mostly using conversation for your story, and to Sam for creating a good mystery about your origins. Ichabod your background maybe was not updated yet, it kept referring to you as a dwarf and references to gods from Pathfinder. Other than that was a good one too. In addition to the things you will be getting from my PMs, Rooks will receive a scroll of Animal Friendship gifted from Selvra and a flowstone of Druidcraft (cantrip). (Flowstones are where the flow has concentrated from the Woe of Ruin and are cut to create magical items) ![]()
![]() The game tab is active. It is a long introduction. I will judge backgrounds Monday and will post again Mon-Fri at least one post a day. That is also my expectation of each of you. I will PM each of you with a secret about your character, and a unique starting item for each of you. I will update the campaign tab with some basic information about the town of Nevermore. ![]()
![]() You have been with the Hanataz Troupe known as the Blue Veil for long enough to be accepted as one of them. For some of you this means your whole life, some of you it has been more recent but you have proven to be an asset to the troupe. Whatever your circumstances, you are now Hanataz-and will be for the rest of your life.] The Hanataz...Wayfarers..."Carnivaliers." Road travelers with no homes save for the wagons, and no kin save for the troupe. It is the life of a vagabond. Many of the folk of the north believe your lives are cursed. Some say you bring ill fortune. Some say you carry a shadowed taint. In truth, many of you do..for when the Blood-Touch of the Abyssal, Fey, Elemental, Draconic, or others are detected in a child, the parents often give such children to the Hanataz. They do this to avoid having the children be ostracized, imprisoned or even killed by superstitious and fearful people in their hometowns. Some parents even do this if their child is a Half-Elf or has been stricken with a disease or affliction that disfigures or cripples them. But, Even though the Hanataz are regarded with suspicion, your arrival on the outskirts of a town or village causes the locals to flock to your camps and see the shows you put on, which are called "Carnivalles." These events are popular among the common-folk, who come to watch your women dance, cheer your performances, and gasp at your freaks. All while they eat your spicy foods and drink your strong spirits. Oftentimes, the “Townies” will bring their local champions and wager on them in wrestling matches against your stout-folk, or in contests of skill with bow and blade. Gambling is also common at Carnivalle, and there are always games of chance being run for those willing to place their bets. Lastly, and perhaps the most popular of all, the people come to hear the portents of their futures from your Seeress. You never stay long in one location. Someone always blames you for a picked pocket, or starting a fight, or some evil happening that seemed to arrive with your coming. Most priests decry your arrival saying you bring immorality, debauchery, and drunkenness; that your women are whores, and your men thugs and thieves. And so , you travel…from the outskirts of one settlement to another. Never welcome in the town proper…but seemingly always greeted by those who would seek out your particular, and unique offerings. It is the 5th day of Dezu’un. The last month of the year…in the annum named the Year of the Rogue Moon. In just three weeks, the month of Dezu’un will give way to Jazu’un and the new year. Soon after, the true cold of the northlands will come screaming like a banshee from the Icingraez and drive into the very bones of all who dwell in the Central and northern territories of the continent of Verdestia. You will set a “hard camp” before then, likely within the vicinity of the city of Dragon’s Cross, and there will be no more traveling for nearly three months. Not until the first of Winterblooms push through the melting snows to spread their red petals…and flutter in the spring breezes like newborn butterflies. As Dezu’un comes to a clost, Wintersdance will soon be celebrated in the Cities, towns, and villages of Verdestia- and indeed across most of the world of Zyathe. This festival begins on the 20th of Dezu’Un. Wintersdance is a time of great joy with many parties and much revelry…coupled with gift-giving and all manner of festivities. The celebration is long…extending to the first day of the new annum some two weeks later. Some, however, do not welcome the arrival of the new year. There are whispers that the days that are coming will bring times of great evil. That the prophecies of the powerful sages speak of a time of great fears and horrors that rapidly approaches. [/ooc]
If the sages of old are to be believed, this year will bring great turmoil to the world, horrible wars, deadly plagues, and many, many, deaths. Some in the troupes say it is the “end of days” and that the Seeresses know it…but will not speak of it. These fears lie upon you as shadows in your minds-with the unalterable fact that time is moving slowly forward towards the inevitable. Whatever it may be. You have more immediate concerns, however, the Carnivalle is soon to begin. You have arrived outside the town of Nevermore. Your group, known affectionately and sometimes with exasperated sarcasm as the Zatis, or “Helpers” in the common tongue, are capable enough to assist directly with the Carnivalle. Borag and Calnasse have chosen you to escourt them into town while they negotiate the terms of the Carnivalle with the local council. ”Alright Zatis, listen good. These Nevermore folks have been good to us in the past, but like all places we visit not all of us are welcomed. Keep to yourselves and try not to cause any trouble. If forced to fight try to use your fists or what you can to knock out your opponent, but don’t kill them. We will only be here one night. We are going to stay at the Hall of Joyful Celebrations, a temple of sorts to Fuffan and Buffahn (The joylord and the lord concoctor). The priest owes us a favor, but do not interrupt their rituals or feasts. We have audience with the town council tomorrow, then we go back to the troupe and set up the Carnivalle. During the audience you will be posted outside watching the horses and our wagon. Any questions? Ask them now don’t be shy. ” Borag looks you all over as he speaks. He is more serious this time than you has been with you in the past, and you know being chosen for this duty is a big deal. ![]()
![]() @Karma-Looks good. Party is starting to fill out nicely
Blood Touch Types:
Elemental Air,Earth,Water, Fire Magical Creature Fae, DragonDeific Abyssal, Equissal,Havenal. You bear some mark that identifies you as being a blood-touched usually, especially in the case of Abyssal. You gain abilities in relation to your touch that are minor at first. For first level it is usually a cantrip of some sort listed in the Wy'Rded World campaign book. Being blood touched makes you an outcast outside of the Hanataz to the degree of not being allowed entry to some establishments. There is Nether blood touched as well, however that would make you an outcast even among the Hanataz to a degree. I would allow it though if you wanted to go that route. I will be updating things in the campaign tab as we get closer. I may open up the discussion tab in a few days to allow final submissions of characters with an avatar ect. Those who submitted so far I will allow to play, the setting allows for more players and due to life people come and go on these boards. If anyone new submits from here on to the 7th I may include them also and see how things shape up once we hit the official dungeon portion.
