Oh good god that was awful. Stupid DR/-

Bernard helps the old man to his feet and looks around, surveying the carnage.

"To be quite honest, Shelyn isn't the first goddess I'd associate with the fine folks up here in the snow-lands. Does anyone take exception to your practice that you know of?"

The only AP mechanic I've liked was Kingmarker, but Ultimate Campaign went and made it better anyway so...

Aside from Kersey's smite we really don't have much to throw at an enemy like this, we should try to find a way to fix that.

Bernard attempts to stab the thing again, cursing in a series of languages too rapidly to follow.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Bernard joins in the melee, forgoing his usual finesse and flair in favor of just hacking at the elemental's legs.

"We really are much better at killing things that aren't covered in armor."

Short Sword: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

I work with at-risk juveniles. Kids on probation, kids with school difficulties, basically we're camp green lake but without trusting our kids with shovels.

Hey so I was hit in the head with a rock at work. I'm ok but I'm supposed to limit my screen time until we know I'm not super concussed, which could take a while. Bot me if you need to.

So I'm not very useful either. Yay!

Quickly assessing that arrows are not going to be much more helpful here than against the giant crab, Bernard puts away his bow and moves into melee with the creature, hoping he's strong enough to at least be able to hurt it with brute strength.

Stow bow, move into melee.

Bernard is very sick of fighting enemies too big and tough for him to shoot effectively and sighs as he zips off his shots.

Attack1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Bernard looks aside at Kersey before pulling out his bow.

"Not if he doesn't make it to the end of the day. I'mma get a better look, see what we're dealing with."

He immediately starts ducking, weaving, and somersaulting through the crowd to get there as quickly as possible and find a vantage point.

*ahem* The historical Hattori Hanzo was a samurai, not a ninja, though he did work with the peasant militias of the Iga region, which many historians credit as the historical basis of modern ninja myths. Unlike his many pop culture portrayals, he was not particularly famous for crafting swords, but rather for saving the life of Tokugawa Ieyasu and his fighting skills with... a spear.

K. Local to identify local ninja who use bird symbols?: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10

"More bird motifs too. Never been on that side of the world, but this seems to be a recurring theme among people who try to kill us since Brinewall. The bird-men in there, the demon with wings, the birds watching us when we arrived, now the ninja with jade raven statues."

Bernard grabs the eggs to investigate later, a set of tools and a jade statuette before hopping into a canoe. After making their escape he looks over the raven statuette.

"Jade makes me think Minkaian, and haven't we fought raven-men before? I think it's safe to say we've been found."

Bernard does what he usually does when he's pretending to pretend not to eavesdrop: dances a few steps to music only he can hear.

"I hope you'll go somewhere eventually, or else our destination is much closer than I anticipated. Besides, we have a boat to catch!"

Everyone patched up from the unexpected hunting expedition, Bernard takes Kelda off to see about commandeering a canoe or similar small riverboat.
