DRA will you be writting the part about the elf tribe (now extinct) that is Bels lineage (From the Great Trackless Wood) or do I have lots of lee-way into writing their culture and traditions, classes and structure?

I was thinking about making them less civilized and more like the "wild elves" of 1st or 2nd Ed.

Just to clarify........

Can those in pursuit tell where they are headed, or would it be a guess?
In other words the doorstep of the great house, is it the only possibility?

If so then is that area visible?
or from what distance is it visible?

Which is clearly rules correct, and how Kyras saw it (also rules correct). My question was how do we resolve that the assumptions we are making match up? It has not come up before because we usually have a map/DRA confirmations.

The stand-off was occuring:

2)at 20 paces
3)at 40 paces
4)well even further than that
5) none of the above

Unfortunately Kyras and I were on opposite extremes of our assumptions and we were trying to make something happen correctly.

As an aside face to face with Kyras, subject to penalties (that would have been the worst plan ever!)

Once DRA confirmed I saw him, I did clarify that I was flying down and trying to get within 30 of Kyras.....in order to hex him....

So how you need clarification or will otherwise assume up in the great blur yonder is beyond me.

A good assumption would be chasing Kyras and within 30 of him somewhere (otherwise no hex could have even happened). Damn that ambiguous distance!!!!!

Kyras. Good to see you here.

My plan, a very passive and inactive one (and just the opposite of your take charge character) was.

Begining at X distance we began shouting to each other. (distance irrelevant).
You are moving towards the abomination (and by extension me) distance starts to become relevant.

From X distance the intimidate thing (a good idea) but distance irrelevant.

From X distance you in your post finally establish where you are in relation to me "reaching". Though at that time I had you further away.

Now had timing been established in some way whether rounds or distance we would have been fine.
I was "imagining" this as about 3 rounds of interaction (or that you were 2 rounds from arriving).

You had intiative
Round 1
You: Coming in hot and heavy
Me: attempt to parley

you: No response other than still coming!
Me: Call the void

you: decide to Enter the void or actually come to a stop

Then of course on round two we would have had the dominatrix come in and spank me for being bad. I am just laying out my "plan".....

As you can see in this reactive passive methodology initaitive matters alot less as the action of round 2 is for round 3!
The most critical element for me is how long (how many rounds) do I have before he actually gets here?

Oh you know me complaining about the past......referencing my first encounter with Kyras.

The way I was setting up was that when he approached to ask him to stop far enough away and talk. Making the move in and grab it up immposible to do in a single round....you know roleplay as opposed to turn based combat.

Now certainly in this case DRA set the stage wonderfully. In the first one it was like Kyras and I were sharing the same pair of pants. ..and him winning initiative meant he could do anything just saying it.

Why not? Kyras approached from who knows where originally. And no one gave DRA the opportunity to set the stage in anyway. I thought you skipped ahead to where you wanted to be. So why bother.

Also there is no reason to assist in calculation of saves. Everyone knows EK is not written to increase the saves on hexes. Instead of making that calculation just post an optimized re-build of my character (swap out some of those 3pp classes I have no time to go through) with whatever works and then go with it. And i'll use EK not as a class but as a title, the point is it can be done......

Assuming the no need of a fly check is correct as posted by Maithreen

Belsarious seeing more than one target, and the arrival of others he knows is heartened and still attempts to open with a misfortune hex upon Kyras.

Will save DC 20 or roll twice for everything and take the worst result....

After taking flight I tried to track the abomination as I have done in the past and hope that I would find Kyras and "reason" with him some more.

If I find him and were within 30 I would be attempting to hex him with the misfortune hex.

He himself flies into the area above the great city, maybe now he could reason with the one called Kyras over the abomination.

Sense Belsarious is so into multiple moments in time and space, often he comes across as stoned, thus making an active perception check into a passive check later on.

Belsarious finds himself free to contemplate what had happened with the abomination and what had been discussed among those who appeared....

Did the abomination have a hold upon the one called Kyras, does that one truly belive the abomination can be used as a weapon, without turning upon the hand that wields it.

The cloth likely helps in some way.

Belsarious replays the episode in his mind to see if he notices anything.....

I am certain Kyras was under some spell similar to the one that effected me and second the abomination moved toward him.....

Belsarious feels the alien thoughts leave his mind, he had not thought himself an easy mark for such......

The tales of his people spoke of the insidious nature of the serpent, though dually as a healer as well. Had the creature meant harm, it could have chose to do so.

Still they had refused civil conversation, and thus Bel would not speak.

I was seeing it play out more cinematic....ly, as K approached saying far enough and then having dialogue. His post was way too many actions, coming in hot from on high grabbing the item, and then (actually not sure did he stop there?) Or did he head out?.....

Which his rush in from where.....would have taken how long......movement is rules to.

Positioning and timing seem to be the major things. I felt I had plenty of time, that if he rushed I could still void the area before he arrived.

I guess the question is for the DM to resolve.......The question is as you approached taking out the cloth and not addressing me can I make the area uncomfortable for you to enter as a standard action, before you get into it?. Then you would have to chose to enter the area or not.

Or does initiative cancel both positioning and readied actions?

I am not certain......any others have thoughts on the weirdness?

I guess the next question is if it actually stops kyras from grabbing it, I would say no. As nothing in the spell would do that.

......Then dominate person comes into effect.......

I also did not technically cast a spell...

The spell was cast this morning into the tattoo, I merely brought it back out, which stickler wise would chijitsu reacting to not spellcasting but reacting to the void itself appearing.....

So first need to resolve the void coming and Kyras choice on entering the area adjacent to me....or not.....

So what's actually going on?
I saw it more as threatening an area with an AoO....on the area not the guy, which I think is irrelevant to initiative, but could be wrong......

If I rolled a 20, my intiiative would only be 24......which means I can't win initiative, but I was adjacent to the thing to have a talk......

Negative ghost rider kyras went for the abomination.....

I would be plenty happy to say the point was to block the grabbing of the thing rather than to catch anyone in the area of effect, that way K-man can choose whether or not to go into it......

@Kyras no way the void can kill you, unless you are way low on hit points......

I had no idea I would get to use the tattoo and that spell anytime remotely close to this soon!

I am pretty happy with the results......

DM will have to weigh in on how I am abusing the tattoo spell reservoir and the call the void spell..........

I think of it like Bel taking people on a "bad trip"

Belsarious brings forth the void from his ttattoo reseivior into the air around himself and blocking the abomination within it.

An aura of blackness takes the very air from the area.......

"I keep politely requesting yer time and patience an yet yah try an go round me, an cannot."

Looks at the cloth in the man's hand.....
"What o tha cloth?"

Intention is to have the void for one round and put it back into the tattoo......

Belsarious stands and remains adjacent to the abomination awaiting the arrival of the dragon follower.

Belsarious feels the effect of the dragon man upon him and knows he has already been placed at a disdvantage, though still he waits for the man to descend and speak....and likely a further disadvantage to when the man is actually close to him.

"Anger is but one path, come and speak with me as kin."
Belsarious shows that his hands are empty, but is resolved not to just move away........

It takes a lot to work Bel up.......

I like the idea of dialog and letting people's imagination fill in the blanks. I just started doing more of how I imagine it.

About to do a major dialogue to convince Sir D that the abomination has to be destroyed even without moving it!
