You break free, all you have to do is beat Phil's CMD
Baobob is going to move 30ft and attack the previously grappled thug.

Crouching behind his shield, Baobob casts Shillelagh on his club!

Phil! This one needs more hugs! Cries Baobob, swinging his mightly club at the beast!

With a mighty cry, Baobob (5ft) steps in to the drake (unwounded) and makes a mighty swing.
Phil eager bounds up against the same drake.

Baobob will 5-foot step back (away from any threatening dragons) and cast Shillelagh on his club. "Phil! The close one requires hugs!" cries Baobob
Phil eagerly bounds forward, charging down from his perch, excited to give one of the dragons hugs!

Well you hit water and it should be less then ten feet for a river barge to the water so no fall damage in this case, I was just quoting the rules from SRD on failing jumps from running starts. Amusingly, you do get the distance you rolled on the dice in feet, so by that rule you should go backwards, pro-pulsed by the power of your own suckage :P I believe the "belly flop" clause overrides that though.

Wheeling about, he moves to the edge of the boat and fires upon the thug across the water. Attack!: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 41d8 ⇒ 6

Looking apologetic, Baobob reaches up and swings a bark covered rope across the gap. Here, you can swing across on this. If they attempt to swing across on Phil, here's a few climb checks to avoid being pulled out of the rigging:
As a GM I only know what I have experience in building/playing usually. For example it's a full-round action to attempting to rouse someone from slumber, but a free action to scream and give them a decent bonus to waking up, but I only know that from an adventure where the party (I was playing in this one) got jumped on. The GM was only aware of the rules because he spent a campaign playing with a character who liked to sleep in the campfire. That being said, I generally respond to the player in how intently I focus on your character. If a player is up front with numbers/silly things I'll usually just take it in stride (unless it's a little too good). If late in the game and a player is demanding I make will saves without giving me any sort of explanation, I'll be asking for that character sheet ASAP (just to everything is legal, not to start copying things down! of course not, that would be silly!). The second thing that factors in for me is previous experience with players (and the interactions I have had). If I suspect something is fishy, I'll go dig it up, usually after the session (but because of this I now have a very good understanding of SLAs, another is the bluff skill) and the next time I have players with SLAs, I'll know what to expect. The last thing is theory builds. I the type of player that prefers to go big or not at all. I often will spend multiple hours crunching out a character because I think it would be fun/amusing to play (only to find paizo has banned some core aspect of it! *shakes fist*) and this gives be insights into "how things work". Druid Wild Shaping in pathfinder can be an interesting beast to wrap your head about if you had any experience with 3.5 Druids. Similarly, grappling can cause massive headings as well. I expect players to do the heavy theory crafting on their characters and prefer them only to ask for specific help (why is a Pseudo Dragon better/worse then an Imp?), its called YOUR character for a reason. That being said, I'm always happy to help new people with their builds (if I'm not attempting to eat!). TL;DR: My experience is limited to what I've encountered and what I've play. As a GM, I'm here to make a fun and fair adventure for everyone at the table.

How many feet is "a few"? Baobob moves quietly to drop the gangplank for the dock officer, but stumbles over a coil of rope and knocks the gangplank into the water.

How are these men currently located in relation to the boat (grouping/facing/etc)? Being careful to not make any threatening motions, Baobob settles behind the mast, out of sight of the enforcers. With a small gesture and a soft word Baobob attempts to discern anything special among or about the belligerent enforcers. *jazz fingers* Detect Magic */jazz fingers*

It's all about how you present the information. If you fail to mention someone or don't give them the whole truth, then it's just a lie of omission. For example, you could tell this guy that there are 5 crew and 6 merchants on this ship, if they discover the "stowaways", they'll be below decks where we'll have the advantage. The whole morality of a paladin is a complex issue, sufficient to say, there's probably a god/oath combination you could slap together that allows you to be a crooked from the normal straight arrow.

Just to confirm numbers here:
Baobob shrinks away from the snarling beast and patiently waits for the the of the party to act. Phil however, has found great amusement during the voyage imitating pieces of the ship's rigging and continues its charade of attempting to look and act like rope (to the point of hiding the proper ships rope, much to the crew's chagrin).

"I feel that it would be best to obey the local customs and not upset the balance of this area by disturbing the peace and alerting the Razmiri hounds before we are well and ready to do so." Looking around the small group Baobob shrugged, "At the moment we're just a simple trading vessel making its way north, nothing more, nothing less."

"Phil is a creature with free will. It would be a crime to try and force any creature with free will to do something that they didn't want." Baobob leaned in closer. "Besides, that dagger is getting very very clean and it'll loose interest quickly enough."

I'm just terribad at this user interface, deleted a double post >.> Also, if you're looking for the outcome of the dice roll, you can just hit "preview post". That'll pop up your result and it will maintain that same number so you can finish the rest of the post appropriately, removes the need for adding lists of conditionals (unless you like that sort of thing).

Well a perception would be needed to notice that it was creeping around under the table attempting to be sneaky. If one were to simply look under the table, he wouldn't be able to make a stealth check as there's no cover and the lighting isn't dark enough. And yes, my name is Baobob...this time around ;p Momentarily perplexed by the brandished dagger, Phil decided that the shiny flashing bit of metal needed a hug far more then the squishy bit waving it around. Sliding a tendril about the blade, the cheeky plant attempted to tug it from the grip of Ahnastasios Disarm Attempt: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 vs CMD 12, successfully securing the shiny, in need of hugs object from the gnome! Skittering to a corner of the room, it enveloped the small blade and became a joyfully wriggling mass of leafy tendrils. Frankly Sardon, I'm sitting right in front of you! Declared Baobob, flicking a chip of bark at the oblivious man. "I'm aware I'm dressed more like a tree then an adventurer, but I don't blend into the woodwork that well sir!" It was Phil, the animal companion creeping under the table, I'll try to keep Phil's actions more separate from Baobob's While turning to face the monk, Baobob pondered the question before speaking in turn. "No, I can't really say that I have had official missions with the Society. My brother probably had some experience with them, but he was a man of many talents..." We are in a room, at a table with at least six chairs. You've just established that that table is beer stained and sticky! :D

"Well it would seem that we are waiting upon our last two travelling companions, Metella Raugar and Amauhak. I do hope they aren't long in arriving...in matters such as this, time is often of the greatest importance." Baobob sat up and began staring intently at the door. Phil however was unconcerned with the immanent arrival of dwarven envoys, nor the gentle rebuke it had just received. There was more then one new nearby something! Coiling around the table legs, Phil began to slide towards unsuspecting (Stealth: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12) limbs which were in desperate need of hugs and affection! This would entail everyone but Ennoia and Baobob. Thanks for that!

Bah, that dropdown box is going to be the death of me >.> I'll try my best to post as Baobob. The touch of something new and unfamiliar was exciting for Phil, this strange hand was defiantly something that deserved a hug! Wrapping a tendril about this interesting wrist, Phil squeezed down and pulled, determined to give the aasimar a massive leafy squeeze in greeting.
Sitting back up, Baobob addressed the party at large. "Now about this letter, it appears we are needed to effect the rescue of three dwarves from these Razmiri priests and escort them to Mendev!" |
