Balthasar is monetarily aghast by Ptah. But surprisingly he does not respond with anger. ”Your God? My God? There is but ONE Lord of Mankind. To suggest otherwise is heresy. I called upon his Divine Grace for protection, and He has acted through his agents. This is Proof we are called here to perform his Will.”

Balthasar gives the landing area a cursory glance, looking for any signs that might betray the fate of those that came before. Then follows after Caius.

A devout group. A Good Omen as we descent into the unknown "If any desire private Confession, I will hear you now."

After finishing with his companions Bathasar sees to his equipment, insuring that everything is ready. He whispers soft blessings upon his armaments, paying particular attention to his beloved Warhammer.

Uncharacteristically, Balthasar spends the trip in silent contemplation. Much has changed in his world in a short period of time. After days spent in prayer, he rejoins his new companions for the advent of their first mission together.

“I pray, Caius, that we arrive to a silent welcome. There are many evils that could have befallen those here, xenos and disease to name only a few. Being welcomed by the false pleasantries of those turned heretic would bring me no joy, saved for the thought that I may bring them swift retribution.”

‘Whatever comes, let us pray for the strength to see the God-Emperor’s will be done. Come, kneel with me.”

Balthasar gives a moments pause for his companions to join him before continuing whether or not they do so. Kneeling down, he places his left hand upon the iron Aquila around his neck and with a bowed head he reaches out with his right to grasp the hand or shoulder of any who join him in prayer. “Our Intent is clear. Our will is strong. Hear our Prayer, Lord of Mankind. Grant us inspiration to stay focused on our goals and to reap honest rewards for the benefit of our sacred Imperium. Guide us with your spirit of leadership so that we may serve our own as graciously as we serve you. Bless us with your conviction to resist all greed and dishonest temptation of those who seek to undermine your wisdom. We commit our actions to You Lord. By the skills you bestow upon us may we endeavor to see success in the righteous application of your justice. The Emperor Protects.”

Greetings All, apologies for being mia the past few days. I needed to decompress after having to lay-off my staff. Not an easy thing to do. I'll get caught up and post today. Hope everyone is safe and well.

Confessor Cleric WS 40, BS 41, S 35, T 41, Ag 36, Int 32, Per 34, WP 41, Fel 44, Wounds 14/14, FP 2/2

"Good. Thank you Yeliseveta. We now have the foundations of our first plan in service to the Imperium. Now for phase two, we need to collect information for our cover and review the information available on our destination. Should we retire for private recollection and reconvene to share our findings?"

Confessor Cleric WS 40, BS 41, S 35, T 41, Ag 36, Int 32, Per 34, WP 41, Fel 44, Wounds 14/14, FP 2/2

I'm just trying to manage the stress of the situation with the stress of keeping 2 young boys entertained all day while stuck around the house!

Having not played much play-by-post I've been enjoying everyone's contributions.

Confessor Cleric WS 40, BS 41, S 35, T 41, Ag 36, Int 32, Per 34, WP 41, Fel 44, Wounds 14/14, FP 2/2

"I likewise concur. We should be prepared for hostility, but provided those in charge have maintained some semblance of sanity, the proposed cover should allow us to approach unimpeded. If we are met immediately with violence, then at least we know that the facility has truly revolted."

"As for the manner of Roles, who among us is best suited to play the lead negotiator?"

Confessor Cleric WS 40, BS 41, S 35, T 41, Ag 36, Int 32, Per 34, WP 41, Fel 44, Wounds 14/14, FP 2/2

I interpreted it differently. Each Faith Talent has an Effect and a Burn Effect. I could be mistaken, but I believe the Burn Effect requires spending a Faith Point, but the main effect does not. For example, with Burden of Guilt an NPC with a lower WP than my PC needs to win an opposed WP test in order to lie to me. However, I can Burn a Faith Point to automatically win that opposed test or to use this ability against an NPC with a higher WP than my PC.

Confessor Cleric WS 40, BS 41, S 35, T 41, Ag 36, Int 32, Per 34, WP 41, Fel 44, Wounds 14/14, FP 2/2

Bal?... Thinks an incredulous Balthasar at Julien's informality.

"While I consider myself blessed with command of the spoken word, I have little experience with deceitful covers. Perhaps my attendance is to insure the Ecclesiarchy's blessing on the new partnership. Who should we claim to be representing? For our story to hold weight we will require a more detailed back story."

Confessor Cleric WS 40, BS 41, S 35, T 41, Ag 36, Int 32, Per 34, WP 41, Fel 44, Wounds 14/14, FP 2/2

Greetings OC, quick question on the Faith Talent Burden of Guilt.

The first line reads:

Effect: Any character that can hear the voice of the
faithful, either face to face or via remote means such as a vox,
will find it difficult to lie to them.

From a game perspective, does this only apply to NPCs? Just want to make sure it won't interfere with our ability to have a deceitful cover story.

Confessor Cleric WS 40, BS 41, S 35, T 41, Ag 36, Int 32, Per 34, WP 41, Fel 44, Wounds 14/14, FP 2/2

"Thank you Agent Murzher. Well as their resupply has been cutoff, their need for resources may be an angle we can exploit with this proposed cover."

Confessor Cleric WS 40, BS 41, S 35, T 41, Ag 36, Int 32, Per 34, WP 41, Fel 44, Wounds 14/14, FP 2/2

Despite himself, Balthasar cracks smirk at Sevata's witty response. But as the others fall to take his lead in discussing their assets, he grows displeased.

"Discuss elsewhere? Perhaps I am remiss, but I assume the reason we have been called before these two agents is precisely to discuss the details of the mission and the manner in which we plan to see it carried out. I expect they will want to approve our plan to insure we don't embarrass our esteemed Lord.

"The negotiator team idea is interesting. Agent Murzher, is there a rival House that might be interested in circumventing the usual channels for such negotiation? Additionally, with regard to the mining operations, how are they restocked and resupplied? If the shipments of ore coming out have stopped, perhaps the shipment of supplies in is still expected?"

Confessor Cleric WS 40, BS 41, S 35, T 41, Ag 36, Int 32, Per 34, WP 41, Fel 44, Wounds 14/14, FP 2/2

"Having identified our objective perhaps we should take a moment to review the skill set of those assembled."

Balthasar turns from the table to face his companions, and addresses them like a Preacher at the alter before his flock. "As for myself, I have been Schola trained in both standard armaments and melee combat. But my true talents lay in ousting villainy. By my faith in the God-Emperor, no treacherous flea can withstand to utter a lie in my presence. If there is darkness afoot I shall bring it forth into the Light."

Turning back to address Agent Murzher "Once we adjourn here, I will discreetly review Ecclesiarchy records for information on the local parish and if they submitted any communicate regarding potential upheaval or noted dissidents. If the local Priesthood remains, making contact could provide a valid starting point for our mission, and with the appropriate cover story a potential base of operations."

Confessor Cleric WS 40, BS 41, S 35, T 41, Ag 36, Int 32, Per 34, WP 41, Fel 44, Wounds 14/14, FP 2/2

A smile crosses Balthasar's lips as his companions voice their varied suspicions on all partied involved. Perhaps the dream of redemption is not yet lost for this lot..

If corruption has laid a seed on Kadenar I shall find it. Any who have turned from the God-Emperor's light shall find no sanctuary.

Turning to the thus far silent Interrogator Zoll. "Do I assume correctly that these are our orders. Infiltrate Kadenar and investigate the cause behind the lost shipments?"

Confessor Cleric WS 40, BS 41, S 35, T 41, Ag 36, Int 32, Per 34, WP 41, Fel 44, Wounds 14/14, FP 2/2

With eyes fixated to the projected image of the moon, Balthasar approaches the halo-table. "Such remote locations are hotbeds for occult worship. Especially if staffed with a penal workforce or..." with a quick wayward glance toward Naltos "other Lesser creatures"

Turning towards Agent Murzher "Is there any cause to suspect... Heresy?"

The final question is phrased with the tell tale cadence of a seasoned Preacher. After the dramatic pause, the word Heresy is spoken with all the vitriol worthy of such a taboo, and yet some of the more perceptive might also notice a hint of anticipation.

Confessor Cleric WS 40, BS 41, S 35, T 41, Ag 36, Int 32, Per 34, WP 41, Fel 44, Wounds 14/14, FP 2/2

Balthasar's Schola training kicks in with a firm "Sir, Yes sir" without a moments thought.

A smile finally broadens his face. The reprimand for silence clearly not intended for him (or so he believes). Now there is a fine commander and a man worthy of the God-Emperor's grace.

With a simple nod toward the formerly human robot, Balthasar crosses over to stand beside Caius. Clearly the only other member of worth in this assembled collection of rabble.

Confessor Cleric WS 40, BS 41, S 35, T 41, Ag 36, Int 32, Per 34, WP 41, Fel 44, Wounds 14/14, FP 2/2

Vices. Scum. Witches… Mutants. The whole lot of you need purification.

Balthasar’s discontent grows with the blatant nonchalance of the assembled sinners. A subconscious hand gentle fingers the iron aquila as visions of flames momentarily cloud his vision.

Suffer your vices on your own time. We are called here for a higher purpose. Our Lord offers you a chance for repentance, I pray that you are worthy of it.

Waving away Yelisaveta's smoke, Balthasar approaches the holo table. Greetings Interrogator Zoll, Curator Murhzer. How may I be of service?

Confessor Cleric WS 40, BS 41, S 35, T 41, Ag 36, Int 32, Per 34, WP 41, Fel 44, Wounds 14/14, FP 2/2

With a purposeful stride Baltahar Lagerfeuer enters the room. His robes are clean and crisp, hair trim and manicured to perfection. The sacred iron aquila, polished to a silver shine, hangs proudly from his neckline. He is the cutting picture of Schola Progenium perfection. Those who know him well however understand it is only a mask. Intricate coatings of obsessive mannerisms layered together to keep the inherent rage of zealotry maintained.

Balthasar scans the room, taking note of his companions in this summons. He face contorts with vulgar distaste as he eyes the mutant before his years of Schola training allow him to recover his composure. As distasteful as the mutants inclusion may be, Balthasar knows not to question the motives of his Inquisitorial Master, At least for now.

Balthasar Lagerfeuer reporting as summoned. May the God-Emperor’s will be done.

Confessor Cleric WS 40, BS 41, S 35, T 41, Ag 36, Int 32, Per 34, WP 41, Fel 44, Wounds 14/14, FP 2/2

Nothing says Witch Hunter like some Robes and a Warhammer. I am blessed!

Question, would you allow a Blessed Ammunition upgrade on a Fire Bomb? Blessed Ammunition Cost 50, one time use only and makes the damage Holy. Technically only allowed on Bolt, Solid & Flame ammunition.

Confessor Cleric WS 40, BS 41, S 35, T 41, Ag 36, Int 32, Per 34, WP 41, Fel 44, Wounds 14/14, FP 2/2

Wow, talk about selective reading. I totally missed that very obvious rule of not adding 1. LOL!

Ok, Then I think I'll add 4 to BS and 2 to Ag. That increases the dice roll to a 13 from a 9 and 11 respectively.

Confessor Cleric WS 40, BS 41, S 35, T 41, Ag 36, Int 32, Per 34, WP 41, Fel 44, Wounds 14/14, FP 2/2

+6 Interesting. I'm actually torn on if I should spread it out to round off a number of Stats to a "5" to benefit future advancements, or should I use it all to boost one low stat, such as my 9 in BS. I'm leaning toward rounding off BS to 40, Ag to 35, Per to 35 & Fel to 45, rather than juicing BS to 43. But something tells me I may live to regret that. The Dice gods are funny that way. Any recommendations?

Confessor Cleric WS 40, BS 41, S 35, T 41, Ag 36, Int 32, Per 34, WP 41, Fel 44, Wounds 14/14, FP 2/2

Greetings Everyone!

For Gear, I'd definitely like some good Armor, and maybe a Rosarius (Hey I can Dream, right?) Would love an iconic weapon, but I'll have to wait a bit longer for proficiency with a chain sword or flame weapon. Maybe a couple rounds of Blessed Ammunition I can reserve for when Julien Perils and summons a daemon upon us.

Wow, 8 of us made it. Congratulations All!

If it makes it easier you could line up Bachu, Julien & Naltos Sholl and allow me to execute them. You could even add in that Tech Priest. Their claim that our holy Emperor is some Machine God is essentially heresy anyway.

Best line up our pair of Scums too. I might not have any evidence, but I'd wager they are guilty of something.

I'd allow the others to prove their worth to our Inquisitorial Master.

But the real question is, would they allow me...

; )

I'm stoked to see where this takes us!!!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

EST for me as well, and I shouldn't have any trouble posting at least once a day, benefits of a desk job.

@Julien thanks for the tips, and the link, it was a good read.

Any other loyal members of the Inquisition growing alarmed at our inclusion of vile mutants, treacherous witches and dare I even voice it out-loud... potential HERETICS?!?

I fear I may run out of fuel for the Pyres

Well after some re-working of my backgrounds and Talents, Balthasar should be good to go! I've documented everything I could think of in Balthasar's Profile. I went with Confessor as a 1st rank alternative to Cleric which has opened up access to Faith Talents. They add an interesting dynamic which I haven't played with before.

I'm relatively inexperienced with play by post, but I found a good post that outlines tips for tone and formatting. OS, anything in particular you would like to implement or do differently?

Guide to Play by Post

Oblivion suggested I check out the Confessor Alternative Rank, and I admit the Faith Talents look really interesting. But as its all dependent upon fate points, lets see if I can improve upon my lame Sole Fate Point:

Fate: 1d10 ⇒ 5
Insanity: 1d5 ⇒ 4

Well I lost my mind, but gained some Fate!

I expect to Roll Play Balthy as a zealot, but I have no intentions of being hostile to the group as I don't want to hinder anyone else's enjoyment of the game. I'm not a fan of PvP violence, so I'll keep the violence aimed at our enemies. After all Balthasar knows sometimes you have to allow one mutant to go un-burnt so that you can burn 100 others.

That said, if you find I'm being too dickish just yell at me and I will tone it back.

And Havelock, the Emperor is GOD. To suggest otherwise is HERESY! Your name has been added to the Pyre's wait list. =)

Do not take it personally Julien. You are TAINTED. Your soul has been corrupt since the moment of your birth. Sanctioned though you may be, eventually the warp will take hold and turn you from the Emperor's Light. It is as inevitable as the Emperor himself. But Have No Fear! For in that moment I will be there to purify your soul before harm comes to your companions.

Come let us together renew the litanies that safe guard us from your filth.

Balthy & Julien BFF 4EVA!

You are all unworthy. Thankfully our esteemed master, Inquisitor Smythe, has seen fit to appointment me to oversee your penance. Rejoice, for a path to your salvation is at hand. Come, join me in assembling a purifying pyre for our resident witch, Julien.

Anyone else having trouble setting a picture? EDIT, Thanks Decimus
