was fun with you guys and you were all great. I'm advertising a kingmaker for those without a game if anyone's interested.

see no map so I'm just firing blindly here.

Bahram will aim and fire an arrow at whatever creature is not in mellee combat so he doesn't suffer any penalties.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Bahram's arrow fires off in the distance, completely missing everything and you swear you can even hear a cat yelp out off in the distance.Bahram sighs, finding his bow being less and less useful, but grasping a second arrow ready for another attack.

What can I do to make it less confusing, Bahram?

Mostly it's that I find several people have posted in a short amount of time and playing a silent protagonist doesn't give me must to say. I'll see what I've missed.

Hm?

If it's me it's just that I'm struggling to catch on what's happening and I find myself unable to say something in character.

To make combat flow smoother, I wish to run combat this way, from hereon out:

Quote:
Thirdly, whenever combat occurs, I will roll your initiatives, calculate the average of your values, and compare it to the enemies' initiative. Because PbP combat easily gets confusing, there won't be individual turns. Instead, you act on a group initiative, and when you post, you act (with "I wait for X to do his/her move before I do Y" if necessary for your actions to make sense). When all five of you have done your actions, the enemy acts as a group, round over, new round. Does this make sense?

Sounds foncusing with calculating average values...try it like this in my PBP and other's do. Here's a example of the last battle we just had:

iniative:

Curnach Daveck: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Jerinthian Kos: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Arianna Rothschild: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Krenn Whetstone: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Queen's Physicians: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Clerics of Urgathoa: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 5

Rolth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Round 1

Jerinthian Kos
Arianna Rothschild
Curnach Daveck
Queen's Physicians
Rolth
Clerics of Urgathoa
Krenn Whetstone

So there, everyone knows who to wait for and the DM is reminded when the NPCs go and when the PCs go, especially as I have the NPCs below the four PCs at the top there. I also then put the map right under that in the first post just so that everyone knows where everyone is and can plan out their actions with ease and accuracy.

Just a suggestion and I got this technique off other DMs who do this. It streamlines everything and I even keep a notepad of the group's most recent iniative so I just copy and paste it into the fourms (with the [dice] code of course)which is another time saving trick ;)

Bahram puts the axes away and then brings out a bow, ready to fire at whatever threat comes their way.

Bahram grasps one of his handaxes, spinning around and holding it up threateningly.

If he sees nothing:

"I don't like this..." he draws the second handaxe, ready for whatever might come close to them.

I know the feeling. my CotCT game almost ended because for some reason followers of Calistria were kinda dickish. Basically one was a real pain because she bent the rules with interpretation and then a inquisitor of Calistria was doing something evil which was pumping cause light wounds into poor Trinia Sobor when she was under the effect of hidious laughter.

The second one was the worst and makes me tentitive to be across anyone who's plays a woreshipper of Calistria.

Bahor makes sure to move up next to Gilfroy, leering in the firection of Mr. Garavel in hopes to seem somewhat threatening, making sure to say loud enough for Garavel to hear:
"Gilfroy, if you want I could break his fingers and make him talk." he clearly has no idea of subtlty or knowing what fights to pick.

went with a death threat rarther than a ranged attack threat as that battle we had I had pathetic rolls on my bow.

oops. I tend not to make checks unless asked. It seems presumptuous somehow. Would you like players to suggest checks? Things like perception are usually made in secret so the player doesn't realize they rolled a 2 and that may be why they found nothing. In any case i will presume only a cursory search and look again later.

This eventually boils down to preference. I agree that sometimes perception checks would be better made in secret - but when taking the effort to personally search, I think a declared roll from said player is better. Spamming skill checks constantly to cover ever base would be presumptuous, but when Durant went to examine the wagon and search for clues, he is deliberately searching - when specifically doing actions like these, I would prefer that you declare your skill use, and roll / take 10 / take 20.

Is my logic flawed? Any objections?

sounds perfect. If it's declared like for instance.

Bahram takes 20, making sure to search every nook and cranny and under every stone or I type in OOC take 20 or something of that nature.

DM Patcher || Sceptre of Flame wrote:

Since the idea of resurrection has been mentioned in the IC topic, I'm curious of your opinions. I for one am not the fondest of the idea, as it cheapens death - it adds another sense of longing (romantic, even) in that it's a legend, it's something priests supposedly can do but otherwise requires divine intervention.

While it makes sense for a character to want to resurrect those that have fallen (Durant, in this case) - and if we manage to carry on long enough, said ability does indeed become an option - I'm ambivalent on whether or not you'll actually be allowed to resurrect the dead.

It takes high level magic and a LOAD of diamands for ressurection or even true ressurection. Then there's Druids which can do reincarnation.

As a DM when I was messing around with a homebrew I accidently over did it with an encounter and killed one of the players, but I allowed that someone could heal him, they get a vision of their deity proclaiming that they have fought valiently and now is not their time. This makes the player both happy that it's something he can roleplay with like devoting himself better to his religion and it means you don't have the messy idea of having killed a player's level 1 character.

I'm not saying never let your players die. I'm just saying level 1 is really harsh, especially this early in the adventure.

Like in my game's case, it could be a 1 time thing, never happening again.

I agree with poor wondering one as at high levels ressurection spells are acceptable, however they have a considerable price tag and who says the nearest village would even have 70k gold worth of diamonds? Plus it is the character's choice to come back, it certainly isn't a cheap fix, especially where the money could've gone to magic items or the team had to sell magic items to get the cash for the spell componant.

Eitherway, your decision as you're the DM. If you want to allow a one time thing where healing brings him back, but only this once then that's fine or if you want to knuckle down 100% on the rules and say that he's beyond saving, then again you are the DM and we can't argue, but I would like you to take the above suggestion to be considered.

Bahram. Bad news about the fan. A friends laptop did the same thing she managed to get it to limp along until she could get it repaired by using a cold pack wrapped in a towell as a laptop rest. Not too comfey on the lap but it works as a temporary solution.

Spreyed with a can of compressed air appears to have fixed it, at least temporary. I can't hear the fan anymore which is odd for me because I would always be able to hear the sound of the loud, whirring fan, now it seems silent.

either it's healed by the power of compressed air (meaning buying the new fan was a waste) or removing the dust has now made it far slower at heating up which is why the bottom hasn't heated up much.

Should've given this update earlier but the dust cleaning appears to have been a temporary solution. It's still got a few fried circuits and now the fan turns on and off whenever it feels like it so that causes problems. Sometimes I turn it on and it doesn't spin at all, other times I turn it on and it remains spinning the entire day, though the latter is a rare occurence.

Think I'll buy a bag of ice from the nearby off-licence and do what you suggests with the towel. I already have a PC coushin to put it on so I'll put this towel between both of them.

Certainly. He'll atleast give it a try.

Bahram decides to help his brothers, seeing nothing else to do at the moment and heavs with all his strength, putting his back into it and just managing to lift it.

strength check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

Not interested in the armour or axes.

Bahram makes sure to have coup de graced every single one of those creatures and then help set up camp, remaining silent and somewhat seems ashamed of his bow.

DM Patcher || Sceptre of Flame wrote:

Garavel nods in approval as Llathander beheads the gnolls. "Very well, if you are finished checking the rest of the oasis, we should head north for an hour or two before setting camp. Gnolls this far from the mountains are not a good sign."

The battle is over? If so Bahram joins in the beheading.

Sorry for not replying too quickly, but my laptop fan has offically died and without a fan the processor can't cool down to everything is reallly slow atm.

Bahram draws his second handaxe, walking over to the remaining Gnoll and striking at it with a single handaxe.

attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17

If that hits damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

AC 17, HP 16

Bahram will aim for the wounded Gnoll in F-3 hoping to act before the rest of the group move into combat with it.

DM hasn't posted the order so I don't know if people moved into combat before I got to act.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 -4 if Gnoll is in combat as this is the firing into combat penalty.

In frustraition he curses loudly as once again his bow failed him and he drops it to the floor, drawing a handaxe with a move action.

Iniative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Bahram will make sure to fire at the cloests Gnoll, however it appears he completely misses.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

AC 17, HP 16

Bahram will make sure to have had his bow still out when sneaking and now taking a arrow, ready to pull back on the string when battle starts.

he only knows keleishite and common so I'm assuming Gnolls because of the barking, they are common in this part of Golarian I believe.

Bahram listens carefully, trying to find out where the noises are coming from and what exactly is making these strange sounds and speaking in a language he can't put together, but it somewhat familiar.

Stealth roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

Perception Roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

Oh yeah, super spy here.

"Someone's cooking humans, or burning them." Bahram says simply as he narrows his eyes, getting off his mouth and keeping his bow prepared to fire on whatever they come across, keeping close to the group.

Bahor draws his bow in preperation, seeing Garavel go for his falchion and then get a arrow out, ready ot pull back the string and fire if he sees anything coming to attack them.

Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 +2 to the check if human

Damn that's one hot mama, lol.

Bahram looks at the portrait with astonishment, not knowing what to say, but you can tell he clearly finds it's very impressive.

"...Haleen..." He remains silent and then his hands ball up into fists, walking away and deciding to take a rest or help out with setting things up if there is a need for his help.

Still here, just can't find any way to interject, not much stuff seems to have happened from all I can tell. Is there a NPC in the group?

Smiling at his "brother's" bravado, Badi will follow the others out of the room as they head to the party that was brewing outside. The young wizard was never one for parties, but he wanted to spent time with compatriots old and new, learn what he can of their stories so that they could feel comfortable joining together to face the hardship that was bound to come. Noticing the odd color of Abbas' hair, he matches stride with the cleric as he asks, "Do all of the Dawnflower's faithful readily take to such vibrant colors?"

Hey sorry guys I would've replied but I thought there was a problem with the site. It appears that once again firefox wasn't loading any webpages on paizo so I was stuck with a blank screen and now the kids are here, gah. Anyway I'll get to everyone soon and save this explaination on note pad to tell everyone else. Again, I apologise for the slow reply.

"Looks like a failed fashion sense to me." Bahram says with a boring sounding voice that wasn't much above a mutter. "I'm fine." he refuses the offer for a drink even though his eyes do look heavy it appears that he can't be bothered with this and looks more eager to find Haleen that just sit around here.

"Bahram." he points to himself seemingly only interested in one thing. This young man has clearly not taken very good care of himself and seems disinterested in anyone but Abbas who is talking about Sarenrae.

Bahram remains silent as he looks upon the group and listens, though seems to not show too much interest in whats going on, just hoping about Haleen. He looks to the rest of the group and listens in, not knowing what to say on the subject.
Haleen...where are you? he thinks as he looks over the other siblings and wants to get to finding where she is and if these roumers are true.

I actually changed the energy of a single character in my carrion crown campaign because he was a Male Dhampire Paladin and Dhampires have a negative energy affiliation which means that like undead negative heals them but positive harms them and being a Paladin he produces positive.

I wavered it this time as it was a legitimate mistake and say that his deity has the power to override that, but only his abilities that produce positive can heal himself and others like lay on hands and so forth.

Concerning positive and negative energy channeling, the rule is that you choose when you make the character if it's positive or negative and it is stuck like that. There was a 3.x feat from the book of libris mortis where you could gain the ability to spontanously cast cures as well as inflicts.

I have a problem withthe Maleen. Problem is I can't look at the player's guide as it isn't free because it's part of pathfinder companion, however I got the trait of d20pfsrd and herolab. The info was interesting saying that either she was brought up as a child-hood friend or she brought you up herself like a mother or something like that. In my backstory it's a bit of a conflict as it has them as childhood friends and he's not that old.. I could ammend it to match Badi Al'Mukhabat Nabih Ka'im's.

Just noticed the posting, right here :)

Got no problems with how you see the character.

Ranged Damager/Support/Healer

Ranged Damager, mostly with a bow, but have the feats to use two handaxes or two maces if we run into zombies or skeletons. Favoured enemy is human so ranged will most likely end up turning humans into pincushions at higher levels.

Support at later levels with spells, though a bit shakey.

Healer with ranks in the heal skill to help stabalise or cure diseases and other ailments.

EDIT! Oops, forgot to switch to DM mode.

Bahram, you're added to the applicant list. Also, I have to ask...all three mental scores under 10? Any particular reason for this? I know it goes within the guidelines I've specified but could you elaborate?

Well it's within the guidelines, however I was going to make this ranger rarther wreckless too. Instead of thinking out a plan or approching something tactfully if he saw Haleen in the distance he'd just ran to her, no thinking about it. He's also slow of wit and often shy so he never actually got to tell her hiw own feelings for her and doesn't like getting along with people.

Part of it's stats, but I wouldn't choose the stats and then not act on them so he will be rarther withdrawn and reclusive. Hmm...think I better change the Wis actually since as a ranger he will be spellcasting at some point.

Edit: Just altered Wis to 12 and lowered Dex to 17 giving him a okey wisdom (Rangers aren't good spellcasters anyway) and leaving a opening to put a point into dex or str.

Thought I'd throw my hat into the ring. I can't find the player's guide online for this AP however...
