"Do not let fear darken your hearts, son of Men! The Enemy is terrible, but there are those here that cannot be cowed, cannot be driven away, no matter how terrible the foe! Rambler is here, fell-handed and dour! Galadhon of the House of Glorfindel spits in the eye of the Shadow, and long has his people opposed the Enemy, ever a blight on their plans! Aeddan, your own kin, mighty among the Woodmen stands! Rescuer of Wolfbiter, you hold him in high esteem, and well it is that you do so for so doughty a Woodman! Not least among us is Caunlaigdir, whose sure hand and keen eye, and unmatched skill with the bow, has already saved many of us.

You have fought, and you have bled, and you have won! The Enemy is simply too dim to know that it has already lost, but I vow to you now, as you hold this gate, so shall we! This foe shall not survive our blades!"

Battle: 3d6 + 1d12 + 3 ⇒ (5, 1, 1) + (7) + 3 = 17
Ayluin grabbed the Horn of Arnor and blew, a clear, loud note sounding forth, filling the hearts of those who heard it with emotion.
Ayluin will then turn to Galadhon and Aeddan, smiling with grim determination, then raised his blade in salute to Caunlaigdir, speaking loudly enough that the Elf on the platform could hear.
"This is not the most fearsome foe we have fought! He shall be felled, like the others before him. Together, friends! Caunlaigdir, aim for the neck and armpits!"

Ayluin then charged, trusting Galadhon and Aeddan to follow alongside. Ayluin held the Shield of Dol Amroth aloft, then cried out wordlessly. He aimed for the beast's hand, using his blade to simultaneously attempt to wound the Troll and deprive it of it's weapon.

Disarm: 4d6 + 1d12 ⇒ (5, 3, 1, 6) + (11) = 26
Ouch. Gonna use a bonus dice.
Bonus Dice: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Should be a roll of 17 total, and 13 damage if successful.

Ayluin brandishes his blade, uttering a battle cry in Quenya, causing the foes to shy before his wrath and brilliance. He steps forward, tall and strong, a lord of Men come to do battle against the Shadow.

He stepped forward, standing next to Aeddan, his mighty weapon slashing out twice.

Ayluin attempts a shot, but misses; he is rushed, as far more important is getting to the gate to hold it.

Ayluin rips Urfael free from it's scabbard, the blade ringing with a pure, clear sound as it emerges. Ayluin moves swiftly, targeting multiple Orcs with his attacks, attempting to bring down several as quickly as possible; speed is the key to defending the Woodmen.

Ayluin speaks to any that ask questions of him, offering advice to those that would be captains in this coming battle. He speaks of what he has seen Orcs do in pitched battles, attempting to prepare them for what is to come. As the Orcs come into view, Ayluin will raise his voice, speaking in a clear, strong baritone.

"They have come to take what you hold dear, but they did not reckon on the strength of your resolve! They think to make you afraid, but they did not reckon on your stout hearts! They think to kill Men, but they did not reckon on your stout sword arms and your allies, making you mighty! We will stand against the Shadow! For Rhovanion! For the Woodmen!"

Seeing the Orcs, Ayluin reacts.

Ayluin thinks while the leaders of the Woodmen converse, and when there is a break in the conversation, he chimes in.
"Skilled in woodcraft and all manner of hunting and trapping are the Woodmen of the Wilderland. To you, this is my counsel; if there is time enough for such cunning craft, set your people to quickly clear away some of the ground in front of the palisades. It need not be overly deep, perhaps three feet or so, but it should be wide, wide enough for three men abreast at the least. Fill that area with sharpened stakes and then conceal your work. Leave a wide enough path for men to stand together and fight on it, that we may hold the gate.

I say also that any excess hay or other flammable material should be gathered. Orcs and Goblins do not walk abroad in the day, and indeed they fear and flee from the light. Let us ring our battleground with such implements, and once we draw our foe into combat, set them alight with flaming arrows to bewilder and terrify them. My own horn shall sound the volley, and they shall know fear! With such cunning traps, surely the advantage will be ours!"

Battle: 3d6 + 1d12 + 2 ⇒ (2, 3, 4) + (8) + 2 = 19
Regular success but I'll invoke Leadership for a 2nd A.P.

Ayluin frowns, composing his thoughts before speaking.
"Many might say that it is the duty of all who would live freely in this good world to aid our fellows against the Shadow, be they Men, Elves or Dwarves. Not all of those might truly reckon the depth of such counsel, for as one of a shattered, hidden people, I can say more surely than most; standing against the Shadow comes at a price.

And yet.

Offer me storied Numenor, risen from the depths and shining brightly, the seat of the authority of the Lords of Men. But to have this, my people restored and unblemished, the Enemy would never have been taken in the days of old and been free to work his evils on Middle-Earth with only the Eldar to oppose him...and I would say thee nay, if for no other reason than the certainty that once he had mastered all other foes, his terrible gaze would fall upon Numenor.

Even if altruism moves not your heart, my lord, you have far greater experience than I with the Enemy; surely 'tis reason to see that he would not let so great a foe as yourself reside unmolested for ever."

Ayluin partook of the wine himself, mulling over the Elvenking's words.

"My thoughts are troubled by this, Thranduil-King. Long have I feared that the Shadow was not so quiescent as we may have wished, and if fell Goblins from the cold of the Misty Mountains are so far afield, indeed, then I fear that the power of the Orcs are not so broken in Rhovanion as we thought after the Wyrm was slain.

Many bonds of fellowship were forged that day. I know that the memory of the Eldar is long, and doubt not that you have grievances against some that dwell in Rhovanion. Those are yours, and you are Lord of your people, and must be proud and strong, and so they are legitimate. But even as your strength shelters those that dwell here, in the eves of the Greenforest, so too could the might of the Firstborn inspire and aid the mortal children of Iluvatar. You do not owe them this, but it would be a testament for all time of thy magnanimity."

Ayluin bows deeply, speaking in the Elvenking's native tongue for a moment.

Sindarin:
"You honor us with your presence, Thranduil-King. I am Ayluin, son of Neluin, of the Dunedain. We have traveled far to bring you this message, as Caunlaigdir will tell."

After that, Ayluin will slowly and deliberately open his pack. He will produce a bottle of the wine that he purchased when they Trader's Isle.

"This is a particularly fine wine, m'lord. It would honor us all greatly if you would partake in a cup with us."

Though he lowers his eyes and offers the bottle in seeming supplication, any gathered can perceive a grace revealed in Ayluin; in the presence of one of the great among the Eldar, the countenance of the grubby ranger has begun to melt away, revealing one of the Men of Elendil lurking beneath.

”Long, it has been, since the descendent’s of Elendil have enjoyed the company of thr Istari. I an honored to be in your presence, Wise One. I am Ayluin, son of Neluin.”

Ayluin's mouth falls open, somewhat shocked. He had not meant for the truth of his words to be displayed quite so quickly.

Somewhat sheepishly, the Ranger quickly cleans the blood and gore from his blade and then sheathes it. He spreads his hands helplessly.

Trader's Isle Market: 1d12 ⇒ 4

Ayluin does not reckon he needs anything but Urfael and his companions at his back for the journey, and so instead he picks up some fine wine that might be enjoyed at a later date. Ayluin thanks Widulven and promises to return. Once all of the Companions who wish have visited the market, Ayluin makes for the boats; there is no sense in tarrying.

So, thoughts on treasure;

We took it, but did not really divvy it up. I feel that treasure should be split equally amongst the party, and any overflow should be put into a group fund that gets paid out as soon as it can be divided equally.

Example;

We got 20 treasure from the decrepit old fort. Since there's 5 of us, that's 4 treasure each. If it had been 24 (for whatever reason), we would have each gotten 5, and 4 would have gone into the overflow. The next point of treasure we would have gotten, we all would have been paid out one more point of treasure, emptying the overflow.

Make sense, and is that cool with everyone?

As a note, that does change if anyone finds any magical treasure; that's considered their entire haul from a hoard. So if in my previous example, Aeddan had found magical treasure in the hoard that is worth 20, we would have paid that numerical amount only to the other 4 of us, so we would have gotten 5 each.

I will labor under the assumption that everyone is okay with this and pay a treasure of my current 4 to visit the market.

Ayluin will investigate the area and, once he is satisfied all is well, will speak to his companions.

"My friends! Many are the heroes, even in lost Ages of the World, that would have been daunted by the foe before us. Few indeed today could boast that they stood fast against one of the Dead, and did not flee, but set them to rest and removed a great Evil from Middle-earth. Well done, all of you, well done! It is my counsel that after so great a labor we shelter here, and resume our journey in the morning, for our quest is not yet complete."

Assuming there are no objections, Ayluin will set up camp. Once that is done and a stew is working, the Ranger will at last turn his attention to the matter of the treasure. If it seems as though it has become truly mundane, he will address the group as a whole again.

"Here, now; some trinkets for our troubles! I deem that no evil now touches these items; let us have a look! For it was from such a forgotten cache that my mighty blade was won."

Ayluin stands shoulder to shoulder with Aeddan, in between Gori and Galadhon, the three performing a protective wedge in front of their archer. He sets his jaw, grim and determined, and speaks to those that have been daunted.

"The hope of the free folk is here, in our keen tools and our stout hearts, for even in the face of this horror we do not flee! Let thy weapons fall and let his accursed evil begone from this place!"

Ayluin strikes again, as hard as he can, hoping that together they can take this monstrosity down.

Ayluin answers Caunlaigdir.
"If spectral indeed is their form, our only choice is flight; unless they are bound to flesh, weapons cannot hope to harm them unless they are enchanted or full of the light of the Blessed Realm by virtue of the craftsmanship of the Noldorin. But most fear fire, or at least flourish in darkness. We shall rob them of that advantage."

Ayluin sets about his task, setting torches up in the room to ensure that the monsters they will face do not benefit from the darkness. Once his companions have made their preparations, he will grab for the treasure and ready to meet the Dead.
