Auri, overcome with emotion at the dancing, almost stands up to applaud loudly. Half way through rising, she remembers being told off for talking during the earlier performance and sinks back down into her seat.

She does offer her sweaty also-paladin a big thumbs-up at the end though.

I'll get my continual flame updated, it is a puny CL10 and spell level 5 at the moment!

I'm going to suggest someone tries a sense motive for this one. That seems to be about psychology which kind of covers some learning type stuff.

I'm assuming it is okay to make suggestions like this, as the 'defense team' does a huddle before presenting to the court.

That automatic 25 might be good on religion check. Especially if you do some nice RP to go with it.

Time to start looking through sheets for interesting boons...
I have a couple of reroll ones I could use if necessary, but I think we would be better off with someone else leading. For religion I suspect even with a penalty for talking twice, Alfonso may be our best bet.

Auriferous steps forward and addresses her answer to Tchekua .

"Great judge. While the removal by Hao Jin of mortals is without question, it is the motives and method which is in question here."

She pauses and offers a smile.

"The Ruby Pheonix is not one who has ever sought power over people, but rather to use the powers gifted her to help and aid others."

She draws from what she has heard of others who have ventured into the plane. "Those who were drawn in, were taken to preserve them, and to preserve their culture. The tapestry was not a prison by design, but a refuge. "

Pausing for breathe she adds "The 'untouchable redoubt' was a place to preserve that which would otherwise die. It was not a seat of power for her, but an island of preservation."

Auriferous sighs, knowing there was little that she can do to help with the planning. She settles for talking with the interesting collection of people in the court, trying to get a sense of their mood.

"Whether it was good work or not really remains to be seen." sighs Auriferous.

Auriferous nods. "You have been very helpful."

She looks around. "Anyone see that scrying sensor again?" she asks suspiciously.

"I wonder if that was 322, or some other party? "

"Well.. we have the three Engrags." Says Aurifernous, obviously not happy with having passively participated in the heist.

"Let us get back to the phoenix, and see if these will help her conduct repairs."

While Sir Godfrey talks, Auri concentrates on 322, trying to detect if she has an aura of evil about her.

That sounds like a good summary.

"We fought the devil only because we had been given specific permission to do so. I can't see starting a fight here making us friends. Remember, we are representatives of the church of Abadar as well as the Pathfidner society. We agreed not to bring them into disrepute. Starting a fight here would certainly do so. If words cannot persuade friend Polanco... then violence is not an option. "

She does look around for any sign of law enforcement, who might be authorised to recover the stolen Engram.

"Many lives were also lost the last time Skyreach had unauthorised people in it." reminds Auriferous.

"There is no obvious right or wrong here, only shades of grey. If 322 were more open about what she was doing, I'd likely support you. As she hides her desires and motivations... I am suspicious. If they were ones that were aligned with our beliefs, why would she not reveal them?"

Auri specifically does not draw her sword, although she does mentally command it back to non lethal mode.

"Polanco, I ask you to reconsider. I do understand your concern, but we have already seen what damage can happen when people get entry to Skyreach without good reason."

To Sir Godfrey she says "322 here has not offered us physical violence, and if words cannot persuade Polanco to change his course, then I will not draw on him or someone he goes willingly with. "

She turns from the elf to Alfonse whispering "Can you get word to Skyreach to warn them?"

To 322 she turns again, adding three more questions "And will you leave anything behind, or cast any spells while within Skyreach? Will you only look and not touch? "

I suspect there is some plot rail-roading going on here.

"Not unless you can provide more information or reassurances about why you want to go there and what you will and will not do when you are there. States Auriferous.

"We are not the ones being unreasonable here. "

"I think first perhaps you should tell us what you are snooping for, and whether your snooping is with the purpose of undermining or harming the society, people within it, or its purposes." states Auriferous.

"I think first we might need to know why you cannot get into Skyreach by yourself, and whether your business there will reflect poorly on us, or our sponsors." points out Auriferous.

Auriferous approachs 'Yakomo' in a friendly manner.

Taking a seat next to the shapeshifter she says.
"Hello there. Apparently you wanted to meet with us."

Auri nods to Alonso. "Do you have any way for us to stay in touch. I'd hate for one of us to be ambushed..."

Though if nobody does..

"I imagine they already know we are here, so perhaps we can wait to have them make contact?" she suggests.

"A good merchant is never too fast to sell her goods in an unknown market.."

"Thank you very much for you assistance Yakomo. This expedition has been full of personal growth." she smiles.

"I'm just glad you are okay and we could help you. Before we go.. could you let us know what you learned from the Engarm?"

"Perhaps you can tell us more about what she said?" asks Auriferbous.

"You have mentioned the pathfinder society, and presumably she mentioned it to. Did she take anything from you - or just tie you up? And why would she tie you up and lock the door? You don't seem... especially fazed by this experience - which is hardly something that would normally happen in this bastion of order."

Actually, Auri can use DD once/scenario from her Showmanship boon, but Alonso is likely to be better

"That was bizarre." offers Auri.

"Somehow Hao Jin was siphoning off soul energy to provide for life within her pocket dimension. I think it was not just the powers of Axis that were displeased with her."

Auriferous quickly removes the engram. "My gloves are going to need cleaning after this." she sighs.

Then she takes her greatsword and slashes at the devil.

As the figure floats toward the floor, Auriferous steps forward with a view to removing the Engram from its filthy possession.

"I guess we should tell the librarian to get some porters to remove the thing while it is in a quiet state." she sighs.

Sorry for the slow posting, I've got a truck load of assessment due over the previous and next two weeks.

Auri is effectively delaying until she can get in range of him somehow. No potion of flying :-(

It is worth noting that she too has a heightened continual flame (CL10, 5th level spell). I think it may even have been Alonso who made it.. back when he was only tenth level.

How high is the ceiling? What I'm trying to work out, is how far down is the disgusting sight of bottom of that devil, or his feet. Given he has a 15' space, I'm kind of assuming he is around 15' tall (although most creatures are taller than wide- who knows with a devil). With Auri being twice her normal impressive height, and having a reach weapon, can she reach him? What if he went up the first row of desks?

Auri, having finished growing, strides forward, poking her sword at the horrid demons nether regions.

If not, she will just stand beneath him, readying an attack.
While the sight is gross, at least he won't be able to see her!

Ahh right, I don't use it enough to remember that. Lets move Auri back to where she was.

Auri, seeing the giant getting out of reach, casts a spell of her own...

She suddenly grows. As does her sword. And as she grows, she steps towards the devil once again.

"You are no humble seeker of knowledge, but rather and overstayer." replies Auriferous.
"And we have been authorised by the librarian to use force to remove you and that which you have on you."

Is there a drop down from the area that Auri and Sir Godfrey are currently standing to where the devil is, or is that flat?

With the haste, Auri can get up to the demon with just a single move. So she will get an attack in as well.

Following the heroic example of Geoffrey, Auri also smote the demon.

Do we get an AOO as it uses a spell-like ability for darkness, or was this a supernatural ability that doesn't attract them?

Auri moves quickly down the stairs to get close to the massive devil.

"Really, this does not have to end in combat. I am sure that is against the rules you agreed to when you came here."

Auri tries to be polite, but her determination is obvious.

"My thanks Ragnar" says the somewhat tougher Auriferous.

Before entering the room, she makes her own preparations, summoning a magical shield and protecting herself with her faith.

"She did indeed. However your time here has expired, as has your reservation on the Engram."

Auriferous advances on the devil. "You must hand it over now and leave."

I have taken a (double) move action outside the box, but shown where, so you can move me back if required.

"Let us try words first, and if they do not work, then more vigorous means may be required. Our aim here is the engram remember, which we have a right to, and the devil does not." cautions Auriferous.

"Still, given this one has exceeded his alotted time, one almost feels that his nature is perhaps not quite as bound to order as one might wish. Odd that, an the inevitable that also had similar traits. I wonder if the Engram's are having an effect on their holders..."

Before the librarian leaves, she does ask. "Who is Tabris? "

Once everyones preparations are made, she is happy to approach the devil.

"I think we can do that." agrees Auriferous.

"Can you tell us more about this overstaying interloper? Other than it being a devil that is?"

And why is a devil studying her memories? Could this be a clue to the unravelling?

Auriferous nods with the others.

"They are quite right. Lives... and the fabric of a small piece of existance are at stake."

"Shall we follow her, and see if she can tell us anything more about these devices?" asks Auriferous, slightly embarrassed at being told off for speaking during the performance.

Auriferous nods and slips a bit away from the annoyed outsider. "Is that scrying sensor still following us around?" she asks quietly.

"Greetings!" smiles Auriferous.

"Her music is beautiful indeed. While I'd love to stay and listen, we are on an errand at the moment. Looking to find .."

I'm hoping here that the arbiter gave us a name

"... who has been studying a particular engrams."

She flashes her badge.

"My own first dealings with the Aspsis were in the Mwangi. They were trying to monopolise some mines in the area. Then again in Varisia where they were using stand-over tactics to try and force a local market seller out of business. Then onto Tamran where their agents were causing still further problems." says Auriferous.

She pauses.

"I had a mission where I uncovered further information about their attack on the pathfinder society a couple of years ago. Then down in Bloodcove their representatives were attacking town members and poisoning their children."

She sighs.

"Then there was their attempt to disrupt your own competition." she finishes.

Auriferous can't help but be a little in awe of Hao Jin. There are not many things that stop the knight in her tracks, but coming face to face with such a legendary person... ranks right up there.

She stands gob-smacked letting those who understand the situation more clearly do the speaking.
