May as well get that readied attack roll out of the way to save time.
readied attack vs hostile devil action including deadly aim, favored enemy +2, Haste, improved precise shot: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (15) + 20 = 35
piercing/cold iron/magic/holy: 1d8 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
extra holy: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5
I consider spellcasting hostile. But not talking or drinking a potion.

Auri If this is standard issue Enlarge Person spell, it is a single round casting time--NOT full round, but rather you start casting now, and continue to cast until start of Auri's next round, (and therefore no movement--unless you don't want to have a standard action next round either.) I moved you back and made you a tween-size, although technically you're still medium. (Unless this is something else? In which case, let me know what it is and restore size and placement.) Thanks.

Sir Godfrey |
Sir Godfrey considers the situation and the inconvenience of an enemy flying out of his reach for a moment. Then he pulls out a potion from his satchel and downs it in one big gulp. "Your hovery tricks of vileness will not allow you to escape us!"
Draw and drink a potion of flight!

"Enough of you puny mortals. You want a fight I'll give you a fight." Ragnar looses an arrow that buries into its shoulder, as the devil move almost to the ceiling then unleashes a fiery tirade of searing words at Ragnar. The ranger narrowly is able to escape the blast.

How high is the ceiling? What I'm trying to work out, is how far down is the disgusting sight of bottom of that devil, or his feet. Given he has a 15' space, I'm kind of assuming he is around 15' tall (although most creatures are taller than wide- who knows with a devil). With Auri being twice her normal impressive height, and having a reach weapon, can she reach him? What if he went up the first row of desks?
Auri, having finished growing, strides forward, poking her sword at the horrid demons nether regions.
If not, she will just stand beneath him, readying an attack.
While the sight is gross, at least he won't be able to see her!
Alonso Gallonica |
Alonso quickly casts a spell illuminating the devil in blinding light.

Auri is effectively delaying until she can get in range of him somehow. No potion of flying :-(
It is worth noting that she too has a heightened continual flame (CL10, 5th level spell). I think it may even have been Alonso who made it.. back when he was only tenth level.

Polanco produces a beer, opens and chugs it in 4 seconds flat and begins floating from the ground as he downs it.
Red Ale gives ya wings!
Sir Godfrey |
Godfrey hovers just an inch off the group for a few seconds before trying to loop around towards the dastardly library devil. His sword in hand and ready to slash out should he get the chance to strike! "Friend Polanco, you haven't grown any wings!"
I'm not super familiar with flight mechanics for going up, I know it's harder than flying level. Presuming Godfrey can approach the devil with 70ft of flight movement, he will attack after he gets there. If not, double moving to reach the thing.
If I can reach him to attack, then I will be spring attacking. Otherwise my AC against AoOs is 38 for him.

I'm doing some retro-adjusting: Since Ragnar acted before anyone else, Polanco and Gwynnis, the two of you don't have to use that potion and Red Ale, if you so choose. Alonso, I'm assuming you'd rather save that Glitterdust. Everyone but Ragnar can choose other actions.
Auriferous |
As the figure floats toward the floor, Auriferous steps forward with a view to removing the Engram from its filthy possession.
"I guess we should tell the librarian to get some porters to remove the thing while it is in a quiet state." she sighs.
Alonso Gallonica |
Alonso eyes the bulk of the devil. You are welcome to try and drag that out if you want, good luck with it
I am happy to have expended the glitterdust. In a real time game I would have probably asked Ragnar to delay to try and blind him to increase the chance of people hitting him.
Ragnar "Handy" Sorvino |
Assuming Spot has the carrying capacity of at least a humanoid of equal size he could drag up to 8,000 pounds. Not sure if that would be enough.
"Let's check in with the librarian before we go gunking up the books dragging that thing around. Maybe they have cleaning magic. This whole plane looks like it has cleaning magic."
GM Uktar |
AS you look over the obese creature, trying to suss out just how to move that much bulk, you see that its wounds seem to be healing on their own. It's still quite wounded, but it is healing fast. Tucked away in one of the fatty folds of its flesh, Gwynnis spots a small tube that could only be Hao Jin's engram.

While others obtain the Engram, Sir Godfrey keeps his blade at the ready to strike the devil. "It is a vile thing, and a lawbreaker, but I do not know that we are within our rights to remove its stain from the realities. We still need to remove it from the library... it might be best to allow it to wake and give it the chance to flee."

To get his full bulk outside the nearest exterior wall is 45', so 90' to get him out, 5' to get yourself back in (if that's that you want to do), for a total of 95'
As Auri first touches the engram, his eyes roll back into his head for a moment,
Alonso steps up to the hulking devil, reaches out with one finger and steps outside with the body, taking out the trash. As he steps back through the wall, he's wiping his hands with a handkerchief, which he then tosses into a nearby rubbish bin.
When Ragnar reaches the Librarian, he hustles back with the ranger, returning to the lecture hall. The Librarian seems delighted that you dealt with his squatter with minimal damage to the hall. He tsk-tsks at the ichor stains, but then offers a satisfied nod. "You are now the legitimate possessors of the memory engram. Obviously, you handled this with some discretion, and as a token of my appreciation--" He is interrupted by an angry bellow, followed by a loud, lengthy tirade in Infernal, which ends abruptly with a familiar static discharge of planar travel. The Librarian clears his throat, "ahem, as a token of my appreciation, I would be willing to allow you to purchase any of the following volumes from Skylite...
Manuals of Bodily Health, Gainful Exercise, and Quickness of Action. As well as Tomes of Clear thought, Leadership and Influence, and Understanding.
We have multiple copies, after all."
This discounted selection of magical tomes soon to appear on a chronicle near you. I posted list with discounted price in spoiler over on discussion thread.
GM Uktar |
With (hopefully) only one more engram to recover, you head for the nearest travel portal. Travel portals to the Serene Circle do not take travelers directly to the Circle itself, but instead deposit them in one of the small neighborhoods bordering the plaza proper. These neighborhoods are comprised of simple dwellings with plain but visually-pleasing architecture and designs.
You have been told that Acolyte Yakomo lives just a short walk away from both the travel portal and the Serene Circle proper. The area is largely devoid of people at the moment, as the majority of the petitioners who live in this area are either attending the ritual at the Serene Circle or socializing and meditating following the ritual, though there is a small handful of petitioners still in the area. You are able to easily identify Acolyte Yakomo’s abode following Eleven-Sun-Truth’s directions.
The reinforced stone door to Acolyte Yakomo’s humble abode is shut and appears to be locked. Everyone but Auri hears the muffled sounds of someone struggling and trying to call out from within the building.
Ragnar "Handy" Sorvino |
Alonso is the only one of us with Disable Device btw.
Auriferous |
Actually, Auri can use DD once/scenario from her Showmanship boon, but Alonso is likely to be better
"That was bizarre." offers Auri.
"Somehow Hao Jin was siphoning off soul energy to provide for life within her pocket dimension. I think it was not just the powers of Axis that were displeased with her."
Feel free to read the spoiler
Alonso Gallonica |
Alonso scowls at Auri's new information. Well, that doesn't sound good, meddling with necromancy is never a good idea. Bloody stupid, typical I suppose, the woman is a sorcerer after all, no real training, just a lot of mucking about and developing innate powers of the blood. She should have known better, or at least she would have if she had been a wizard.
He harrumphs and promptly disappears again.
As they approach Yakomo's house and hear the sound of someone calling for help he scans up and down the street to make sure no outsider with true seeing or see invisibility is wandering past before breaking out his tools to work on the lock.
Give me a minute he mutters to the group as he drops his pack and gets to work.

After a few tries, the lock seems to open on its own (unless you have see invisibility up, in which case you see Alonso pick the lock after a couple of tries). Inside the dwelling, you discover Acolyte Yakomo tied up, gagged, and shoved into a corner of the room. When Yakomo is released he calmly rises to his feet and addresses you.
“You must be agents of the Pathfinder Society, I assume? Someone is looking for you.”
Yakomo then explains that he was attacked and tied up by a gloomy elven woman--you quickly figure out it must've been shortly after you first arrived in Axis.
“She seemed… troubled, more than malicious,” Yakomo says, “as though she carried the weight of far more hardship than even an elf ’s long life could justify. While I am not pleased that I appear to have been drawn into a conflict between you and this woman…” Yakomo pauses for just a moment.
“Perhaps all is happening as it should. I find that is often the case in this city. Regardless, the woman seemed to know you would arrive. She bade me tell you that you should seek me out in the Serene Circle. Given what I saw of her magic, I expect she was being quite literal and waits there in my guise even now.”
Auriferous |
"Perhaps you can tell us more about what she said?" asks Auriferbous.
"You have mentioned the pathfinder society, and presumably she mentioned it to. Did she take anything from you - or just tie you up? And why would she tie you up and lock the door? You don't seem... especially fazed by this experience - which is hardly something that would normally happen in this bastion of order."
Sir Godfrey |
"Troubled, was she? Then while she is clearly a sneak thief breaking into houses, and breaking law in the land of it, we shall give her a chance to repent... so long as you are relatively unharmed?" Godfrey waits for his response to Auri's additional questions, as they seemed to be quite good ones. He did check the rooms for any signs of the place being tossed. "He worships Irori, they tend to be very relaxed folk."
GM Uktar |
Yakomo shrugs. "She took the Hao Jin memory engram I possessed--she mentioned some Pathfinder Society agents were seeking it, and she wanted to meet with you. She took nothing else. And if she had meant me harm, she could've done so at her leisure. I suspect there's a lesson in personal growth ahead, whether for the elf or yourselves has yet to be revealed. But I believe my role in this lesson is now complete."

"Thank you very much for you assistance Yakomo. This expedition has been full of personal growth." she smiles.
"I'm just glad you are okay and we could help you. Before we go.. could you let us know what you learned from the Engarm?"
GM Uktar |
Yakomo nods his agreement with Gwynnis. "Indeed. A pleasure to meet one on the path of self-improvement."
The he turns to Auri, "The engram provided me insights into Hao Jin's youth, a useful tool to remind one of the early stages of life's journey, It allowed me to reflect upon the early events of my own life, and how it helped form my current self. If your path leads to coming into possession of the engram, may it provide the insight you seek. And best wishes to you all for an enlightening journey..." And with that, he sits back down and begins to meditate on the day's events.
GM Uktar |
It's a short walk from Yakomo's abode to the the Serene Circle.
The Serene Circle is an open-air plaza where Irori’s followers meditate, learn, and discuss the intricacies of the multiverse with one another. Miles across, it is covered in light-colored sand and dotted with tranquil fountains, reflecting pools, and carefully managed gardens. Countless remade petitioners dressed in loose, white robes stroll about engaging in quiet contemplation or are in conversation with others of their kind. Others sit and meditate quietly in the shade of blossoming fruit trees. The entire area is suffused with a deep sense of tranquility and peace.
Alonso Gallonica |
Alonso floats into the plaza, weaving between the petitioners, and looking for their target.

Auri nods to Alonso. "Do you have any way for us to stay in touch. I'd hate for one of us to be ambushed..."
Though if nobody does..
"I imagine they already know we are here, so perhaps we can wait to have them make contact?" she suggests.
"A good merchant is never too fast to sell her goods in an unknown market.."
Alonso Gallonica |
Yes of course, the message spell is in place, that should keep us in touch with each other
