Ash takes his time as the others dice with destiny. He tests and selects a longsword, straps a spiked gauntlet to his right arm/hand and a buckler to his left. His eyes linger over a starknife before resting on a light mace. His father's words echo in his head...

Always good to have a metal club on hand for when you don't want to spill too much claret.

He weighs the metal club, and takes it. Ash cocks a crossbow to show himself he can, then takes it and a score of bolts. Finally, he stows a pair of daggers in the belt attempting to keep his chain shirt contained...

"Now. Where has everyone got to?"

Asho convulses a last time and coughs. He gathers himself for a few moments and, true to his father's training begins to take stock of the available resources. He takes a deep breath, then begins the gruesome task of stripping the corpses, trying as hard as he can not to make eye contact with any dead ratling... He can hear his father as he might admonish him:

You did this. Take responsibility for your actions. And make sure you are prepared for the inevitable - this will happen again ere we leave this place.

GM - what do we have here - padded armor and clubs? Anything else?

Ash picks himself up, and dusts himself off. He is crestfallen, and ashamed to have fsiled so perfectly. He picks up Narima's dagger, spins it by point and handle longitudinally in his hands, staring at it, as if deep consideration of it's movemdmt would bring back Narima, or wipe away his shame. He sighs heavily.

"Damn. It was some sort of shadowy thing. It threw me into the cell bars, flicked Narima's dagger away, and took her through the wall. I think part of the wall moved? Before it all happened, there was music....and scraping of stone."

Huh, I'm fine with called shots. I think it would be okay to go both ways. Danger is as danger does, but the majority seems against it...

There were some good rules in a Dragon magazine article for ADnD that gave rules for intelligent monsters aiming for the head and the usefulness of helmets...

Okay, so what bladed weapon was Ash given? Some armor would be nice...While I feel it is not likely necessary that he is with Narima, seems safe, but storywise it makes lots of sense.

I don't think Nox is evil. Just pragmatic. As has been said about tribal people - you don't have room for so much sentimentality when you live close to nature. Nox' people are merely uninterested in good or evil - as he said they don't have much truck with such emotive concepts, but do consider survival a premium.

Now remember I don't actually know what he's been suggesting. Must...not...read....spoilers....

Whether our characters understand the intricacies of anthropological concepts as pragmatic survivalism does not equal evil, I'm not sure. Ash is mostly just irritated by his foreign gabble and obviously withering opinion of us.

My main problem with Nox is the age and experience disconnect between him and the rest of us, but the GM has ok'ed it and we work with what we have. ;)

Ash will stay with Narima. Leaving one on guard seems unsafe. That, plus his chivalry, never dormant where the fairer sex is concerned, would not hear of it.

I guess I'll just wait until folk return...

But he's been around for what? Decades? Hundred years? He's going to have waaaaaaay more experience than us, regardless of whether he has the adult maturity to make sense of it.

(And did Pharnox ignore Ash's attempt at introduction? Hust need to be sure how Ash feels about it… ;) )

I'm seeing a lot of actions being taken that aren't taking into account where people are and what they are doing.

- Apparently I tried to put the ratling in the cell while Tikkle was still holding it.

- I'm not sure if Pharnox just ignored Ash trying to communicate with him, or if Viluki missed the post…He certainly never acknowledged it...

- Now people are moving in an out of a door that Terra is standing in front of.

IMHO there is way too much exposition (chat) and not enough moving the story forward. If we are a bunch of kids (which everyone but Pharnox* seems to be) then we will sit here for hours arguing incessantly as children will.

* Sorry, but a decades/hundreds year old character doesn't work as a kid for me Regardless of maturity life experience of even decades is way more than what any of have...….Just how old is Pharnox?

Ash is interested in exotic weapons, and would be able to see the useful application of guns... Bring it on...

If only he could stand Pharnox long enough to get to know him somewhat...

@Jin - non-silenced guns and stealth work great - right up until just after you fire them into someone's unsuspecting ear.

I think Ash would have preferred to go, but I can't stand having to constantly ask for translations, and the assumption that everything just gets translated just breaks the fourth wall a little too much.

Not reading the spoilers is actually really, really frustrating. Makes being in character for Asho real easy. He's going absolutely berkonuts with all the elven gabble going on…

I may relent and let myself read them. Once we are out of here. It should make for illuminating reading…
