Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

I share the sentiments of Ordrud's player as well.

Let us know when you circle back around. I'd love to pick this up again.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

I have a long distance move today and this weekend as I previously mentioned. Will not be readily available.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Hopefully we will lose neither of them, but I can definitely understand Rob's decision here, especially given the pause.

I put up a post today to try and give more detail of my characters current thoughts on our next path.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Ar'Zarrcal listened to the conversation intently. If the elf was to give up any information he did not wish to miss it, while at the same time he tried to understand his companions feelings. They had been changed and he feared that their original motivations had been perverted by the ancient sorceries of Baba Yaga and her servants. Seated now, he unslung his heavy pack from his shoulders and undid the clasps. It was not long before he fished out a mug and some of the earlier pack whiskey. It was not enough to even produce a buzz, but it felt good to have a moment, however brief to pretend at relaxation.

His gaze turned to Ordrud. The Orc seemed equally quiet and squirreled himself away in a corner, eating a meal by himself. Though the companions had been united by a common purpose and the trials of combat, there still remained between most of them a good deal of seperation and distance.

"I remain of the same opinion. We must close the portal. Yet there may be more that can be done than an obvious attack on the Pale Tower. Vuriel has made it clear that large patrols have been ranging from the tower. Ambushing one of those patrols and discovering what it is they search for may provide valuable information." He let his pale eyes shift to the rescued elf and he studied Vuriel's face. "Knowing what they search for is likely of importance to our host as well. He never explained why he battled with the Owlbear riders or how the conflict began..." He let the question hang in the air for some time before he looked to the Andorans.

Ar'Zarrcal bowed his head in an almost solemn manner. He fell into silence, save for his heavy breathing and a few whispered words in the thassilonian language. The fingers of his left hand curled about the heavy iron Sihedron he wore about his neck. Several of the varied runes that marred and tattoo'd his form also began to shed a faint luminesce.

"I need to offer proper prayer to the Goddess. It has been too long. In the morning we will have the opportunity to deal with the people of this village if we wish. I speak the language of the North and can make inquiries if needed. Do we wish this or do we wish to remain unnoticed among the populace?"

The icy blue eyes of the servant of Karzoug focused on Ordrud. He stared hard at the Orc-blooded warrior considering their options. He then looked to Gwynn, not attempting to hide his disfavor.

"The witch you and your team encountered on the other side of the portal. Do you believe that this was Elvanna herself or one of her servants? It may be we will have more than Halek alone to deal with if we go directly after the portal. We may need additional allies. This village could provide some..." Again he looked to Kyonin elf, before turning his gaze to the recently transformed emissary of the Mordent Spire.

"Ambassador Dagannauth how do you think we should proceed?"

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Ar'Zarrcal thought it best to keep his silence. If both representatives of the Rune Lord were the only ones speaking the foolish elf they rescued might presume that the rest of the companions were somehow magically coerced to obey them. That was far from the truth, but he had already witnessed the pointlessness of engaging the Kyonin elf in conversation that did not directly have to do with the mission at hand.

Brushing snow from his fur covered armor, the dwarf ran his hand down his scarred face and pulled at his beard, causing snow, ice and water to drip free from its ratty mass. He let his gaze wander about the interior of the establishment for a little while, but eventually he sought out a place to sit. Dropping down he sought a few brief moments of much needed rest.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Been extremely busy this week with a long distance move, including arranging telecommuting with my job. Posts will be sporadic from me for the beginning of april.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

I need to finally rememorize spells. Beyond that we need to find the pale tower and shut down the winter portal.

We could scout out the town and try to get information about the winter portal and the pale tower, but at the same time asking questions might prove to be suspicious. Halek is still out there somewhere on this side of the portal and I believe he is a more horrible creature than we initially believed (Something like that was revealed)

If we want to stay here longer I can probably begin work crafting magical arms and armor, though I am limited in what I can craft.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

"Bury the merman and let us head into town." He cast a long glance in the direction of Marcellano and Teladon, both of whom have undergone quite excessive physical changes. "Well covered and cloaked in furs. We waste time prattling on when our options are limited." Ar'Zarrcal finished his words by pulling more of his furs over himself and grabbing some extra from the fallen Owlbear Cavalrymen, covering much of his squat form within a concealing embrace.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Is the Elf Vuviel refering to Ordrud or Rasso? It wasn't entirely clear in the description. It's going to be hard to disguise both of them.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

I'm still here. Shame about Quest for Arcadia as I really liked the direction that was going, but I understand the reason for the decision and it makes sense to focus on one, rather than split attention between three and potentially leave all of them to flounder.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Rob I know you've probably heard this a lot lately from friends and other supportive people, but you did an amazing job and should not be too discouraged. To quote Jim Groves from the interview you did with him... "My proposal was likened to an entire adventure path (versus a 32 page module) and so I was not recommended for the top spot. That’s okay! That’s the wonderful thing about RPG Superstar. You don’t have to win the top spot to open doors to a very successful freelance career."

I see a lot of similarities. Hopefully it won't be too long before you are writing the first book of an adventure path.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

How was the final winner decided? Was it through votes? A combination of votes and the judges approval? Decision by the judges alone?

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Nevermind, I see they have. I wish the superstar page was more prominent on the main page. I didn't know voting had opened and since closed. Rob I read your adventure (sorry I missed voting) and it was excellent. I plan on listening to the interview later when I have the chance.

I hope you win the contest.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Have the final entries been posted for review or anything?

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Well done! You made it to the final round!

I of course understand in things on the PBF move a little slowly while you polish and work on your entry.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Ar'Zarrcal looked at the elf with his tired eyes. It was late and he had had little in the way of a proper rest for some time. Yet another battle they had fought in this wretched cold and now the very person they rescued hurled insults and accusations at them. Ar'Zarrcal held the angry words that threatened to spill off his tongue and offered additional words in hopes of reassuring the close-minded elf.

"How many centuries have you seen elf? Have you still not learned that there is more to a book then the design of its cover? Look around you. It is this winter wasteland that our enemies wish to spread to the whole of the world. What does it matter who we serve? We work toward the same goal, do we not? That makes as allies this day. We do not need to like one another, but we do need to respect each other and work toward a common end." It was all the ambassador could muster forth at this hour. He had no great insight into the mind of elves, nor did he know the pathways to influencing their fickle hearts.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

I will be away for eight to ten days starting this weekend due to a trip.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Well deserved Robert. I think round three is where you are going to excel. Your encounters I have seen thus far have been very enjoyable and with interesting elements and great descriptions.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Map looks awesome.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

I think the number of fey reflects two things.
First, people like the fey and they think that they are very interesting monsters to encounter.
Secondly, I think there is a wealth of material from old folklore and myths that haven't been utilized before that people can draw inspiration from to create a fey creature.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

You didn't actually have to vote for eight. I only voted for the ones I really liked. It ended up being seven in my case.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

I voted for Chimney troll as well. I also really liked the work on the Bogle and the Guttersnipe.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Robert you should be happy to know that your creature was one of seven I voted for. I had to read all the entries before casting my vote and I think objectively I would have picked yours whether I was in your games or not. Great job.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

I am eager to see and vote on the next batch of entries. I voted on some for round 1, though there were so many. I'm not sure I ever came across yours or not Rob. Reading the entry now, I really like the idea behind it. It definitely has flavor that any GM could work with: You can see them, but now they can also see you.

I'm glad you made it through to the next level. I look forward to the Round 2 entries.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

The little owl totem isn't magical either is it? Does anything in the area radiate with magic besides our company?

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

"I fight to close the winter portals. That is all that is important at this stage." Ar'Zarrcal said as he stalked back through the heavy snow to the gathered group. He knew little of geography away from the lands of Shalast and offered no assistance in deciphering the map. It seemed there were far better people to handle such things.

"There is no shelter for miles, save the village, a crude shelter could be made but it would take us much time and would not serve as well. Investigating the village seems the most logical course of action." The dwarf said with an exhale of steaming breath. He began to comb his gauntleted fingers through his tangled and frost covered beard, but abandoned the effort when it only made things worse.

"What language are the locals known to speak?"Ar'Zarrcal turned to the Orc and then Marcellano as those two seemed to have some sort of idea about this place. Ar'Zarrcal suspected that none of the others spoke Ulfen from his conversations with the Captain and the fact that no one else seemed to join in. The thought of the beginning of the journey touched the dwarf for a moment and he looked away, reaching into his pocket to get a glimpse of a small rune carved stone he kept.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

I like it. It seems to make sense and having knowledge geography can be useful. Who knows it might come up again.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

"The alterations, both physical and spiritual, that many of you have undergone in this last hour has me concerned. We do not yet know how deep the magic runs or how thoroughly you... we... have been altered." Ar'Zarrcal thought now a good enough time than any to reveal his hesitation. While it was true that he too had absorbed much of the mythic energy that the Fey Rider had bestowed upon his passing, he seemed at least outwardly little changed.

He looked to Fenyx for a moment and then to the Ice encrusted form that was Marcellano. The Cheliaxian seemed to be handling the transformation well, though it might also just be presenting a brave face. Such a change has likely wreaked terror on the human's more natural functions.

Placing a hand over his brow Ar'Zarrcal searched the horizon for any place that might be a suitable cover to rest and recover. Tracking he would leave to those more skilled in the snow like Tavaluc.

Apologies regarding the lack of posts lately. I have been very busy at work and at home lately. Will try to keep up better.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

"We are in hostile lands. More hostile than those we had just crossed over from. Many of the enemies that we faced on the other side of the gate fled to these lands, what makes any of you think that this village will be favorably disposed to us?" The dwarf asked with an upraised eyebrow that had grown hard and covered with frost. His hand worked at turning the crank to re-load the crossbow he had used to end the threat of the last of their adversaries.

A wary look was given to the elf that they had intervened on behalf of. He did not know whether the elf was truly an ally or whether they had merely brought another burden down upon them. "Perhaps it would be wiser to send a scout ahead to investigate the village? They.. " Ar'Zarrcal gestured with his head toward the body of the Owlbear Cavalryman. ".. spoke the Ulfen language. Someone who knows it would be the best candidate for a scout. Who else speaks the language?" He certainly wasn't recommending himself for a scouting mission as he knew that he didn't exactly blend into the background.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Ar'Zarrcal trudged forward a few inches, but it was only to clear some of the snow away with his shield so that he might reload the crossbow he carried. Quickly setting the butt against the ground, he turned the crank and reloaded the weapon. With steam pouring from his open mouth, he cried out in Ulfen.

"Surrender or die. This will be your final chance." Even as he spoke those words he raised the crossbow, ready to fire should the Ulfen warrior do anything but surrender.

I hope Robert isn't cruel about missing and firing into melee without Precise shot like I ... I mean, like other GM's I have known are.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

It's been wretchedly cold here in NY as well. I just came back from visiting Montreal (among other Eastern Canadian cities) at the end of November and I can confirm that Montreal is cold. It was bitterly cold in Canada at the end of November / beginning of December, I can only imagine how cold it is now. Quebec City's Citadel definitely took the cake for being the coldest place I visited during the trip, though it did snow two and a half feet in Ottawa overnight when I stayed there.

Montreal is a beautiful city. The botanical gardens were magical even in the Canadian winter.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Unwilling and unable to properly reach the combat in this high snow, Ar'Zarrcal watches with dismay as the power of the Ancient Crone seemes to wreak more chaos upon the spirits and physical forms of his companions. How deeply her magic seemed to infuse them and yet they did not question it? Were these changes wrought by Karzoug would they have merely accepted it as well? Why had did he accept it? Pushing his thoughts aside as his head began to pound he focused instead on the cold, the sights before him, and the smell of blood and Owlbear in the air.

Halting in place, he struggled for a moment to retrieve his crossbow, trusting to it over the unfamiliar musket. Bracing it just over the rim of his shield, he steadied his aim and let loose a bolt into the back of the dismounted warrior.

I will take it as a SLA. Probably...

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

I think I am going to select Magic Inheritance and take Magic Missile's because I think it would be thematic and would give Ar'Zarrcal something else to do when limited by our party very rarely stopping for us spellcasters to rememorize.

Plus, I wouldn't have to risk using the dice. Thoughts?

Rob, it says alternatively Spellcasters can add it to their spell list. Does that mean they need to choose whether they want it as a spell-like ability or add it to spells known or do they get both?

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Ar'Zarrcal moved as far as his short legs could carry him through the deep snow. Even with snow shoes it was not a great distance. Between panting breathes, he called for guidance from his divine patron. Though a minor incantation, he found the sureness of action flow into him and he raised his shield before him, ready to do battle with the Owlbears and their riders.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Ar'Zarrcal is currently struck with indecision with whom to side (hence explaining my 1 for turn order). We know little of the allegiance of one or the other. Perhaps we should demand they both surrender?

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Rob, did Ar'Zarrcal recognize any of the languages spoken? How many Owlbears made the roaring sound? Please consider all information to be transmitted to nearby companions.

Not one to rush into a nest of hungry and agitated Owlbears, Ar'Zarrcal made a more cautious approach, following behind those companions that rushed forward. He tried to warn those who were up ahead of what they might face, even as he once more glanced to the moon. He needed to restore his divine blessings, it had been too long.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

I might be interested, but I need some time to catch up on my current games. I trimmed down to only four games and I still haven't had the time to fully catch up on Arcadia and another.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Great posts all around everyone. Unfortunately it looks like Ar'Zarrcal's bad rolls continue to stick around despite his mystic transformation.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

The landscape that Ar'Zarrcal looked upon was not one that offered the promise of a grand future, but rather revealed on the bleak and troubled situation they now found themselves in. If his eyes were to be trusted, this was a land that had long ago succumbed to an eternal winter. Was this what their enemies planned for the rest of the world? Not a tree was glimpsed for as far as his vision extended. Just hills, rocks, and always snow. In the cold frost of the starless night his companions stood out starkly under the stare of his dwarven minesight.

Though he could find no stars in the sky, he searched the heavens for a moon by which to commune with his goddess. It had been too long since he offered proper prayer, though he wondered whether the Captain would allow them time to rest or would press them ever onward into danger. He pulled his eyes from his upward gaze at the snow crunching approach of his fellow Ambassador of The Reclaimer. Ar'Zarrcal scratched at his cheek beneath one of his eyes, scrapping away some blood that had frozen in place. He noted a curiousness mixed with concern in the other ambassadors usually composed features. For his own part Ar'Zarrcal did nothing to dispel the awkward silence that took place between them.

"It would seem that Lissala granted us both visions of many possible futures yet to be assigned as fate. Yet I would be hesistant to name them all enduring possibilities..." Ar'Zarrcal clearly picked his words carefully, but whether or not he wished to hide something remained unclear.

"Unlike your experience it seems mine held some differences. I did not experience these futures, I only witnessed them, jumbled and fleeting as if from the circular window of a fast moving carriage. The visions were not merely futures either nor were they mine alone, but I.. I glimpsed days since past as well." He did not meet Fenyx's gaze at first when he chose to speak these more revealing words, looking up and making eye contact once again only at the end.

"The magic built upon the foundation of the Seven Virtues of Rulership are the keystone to the future. Lissala has made this clear. It should come as no surprise to you Feyronix Dagannauth as a practioner of Thassilonian magic." He halted his words there. Was he trying to be deliberately vague? Ar'Zarrcal's hot breath was expelled from his nostrils, steaming in the air as he broke eye contact with his fellow ambassador and set his gaze instead to the snowy ground, searching in particuar for any tracks which might have belonged to the troll before it passed through the portal into the Andorran side. He gave up quickly however, for it seemed snow and his companions had destroyed all evidence that he could pick up with his limited experience following a trail.

Tracking: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Understandable.
I decided to go the guardian route rather than Marshal, which netted me an extra hit point. I also ended up taking dual path to get access to inspired spell. For level 3 feat I took extend spell. I might as well work toward the focus of my archtype. Maybe I can give the Captain returning weapon for a long battle or something along those lines.

Speaking of the Captain I noticed one of the Guardian tier 1 abilities grants ranged disarm... Why not ranged trip?

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Robert is there any chance you would consider allowing me to remove Wood Shape as the domain spell I receive for second level Artifice (my only domain) for something more 'dwarven' like Weapon of Awe or Align Weapon?

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

"Elves, ever mercurial." The dwarf commented after Teladon ventured forth into the breach in space that was the winter portal, disappearing from sight behind of curtain of snow carried upon freezing winds. "They are as fickle and obstreperous at forty years as they are at four hundred." When Rasso charged in after the masked ambassador of the Mordent Spire, the dwarf grumbling to himself added a few choice words on merfolk apparently being equally capricous.

Blood stained Ar'Zarrcal's face, but he did not seem otherwise outwardly changed by The Rider's Gift. Those truly observant might have noticed some alteration in the runes and sigils that crisscrossed his form, though most were currently hidden behind armor and heavy winter furs. As the interplay between Marcello, Fenyx, Ordrud, Styvanus and the Andorran woman took place Ar'Zarrcal merely watched them. Drinking in the words as he let out a few ragged breathes. It was clear he had not yet had a chance to heal from the savage attack inflicted on him by the troll.

Much like the other Thassilonian, the dwarf's Sihderon rune upon his brow shed an awful fungus green light. A third eye was opened through that rune allowing the dwarf to draw in the magical energies of the surrounding area, then filter and analyze them. The winter portal though no longer fully a mystery was still a work spectacular work of mystic engineering and Ar'Zarrcal desired to know more about its functions before stepping blindly into hostile territory. It would be necessary to eventually close these portals and discover a means to prevent them from opening again.

He cared little whether Gwynn accompanied them or not, but did find it interesting that she did not seem as changed nor as fully bound by the vow to the queen of the witches as many of the others. Had the current of mythic energy bestowed upon his companions ignored the rescued andorran? If they convinced her to come along, he decided she deserved further observation.

Not yet moving to study the Winter Portal, Ar'Zarrcal crouched down near the burned hacked body of the massive ice troll. Wretched creatures were ever a plague upon the growth of dwarven settlements in the Northwest. Letting his eyes trail over the boar spear, he deciphered the magical aura that infused the weapon quickly, though he did not take the weapon himself. When Ordrud took the weapon in hand, Ar'Zarrcal uttered a few quick words.

"It is enchanted, Ordrud. It is a weapon designed to catch and hold humanoid prey. Should you land an expert blow with the weapon it will paralyze the target and hold them fast as your prisoner so long as the spear remains in place." His voice was still sore, but it did not prevent him from speaking with a precise crispness. He did not expound in further detail about the exact details of the enchantment knowing that what he said was more than enough for the Orc.

Soon he joined Fenyx in examining the area around the Winter Portal itself, sweeping snow off of rock to look upon the repurpsoed azalanti device.

Knowledge Planes on Winter Portal: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20

Please note that due to the level increase I now read/speak Azlanti in addition to Thassilonian. This may impact research on the Winter Portal.

Robert a few questions: what are my current hit points? I suspect the troll did a number on me. Do I add my new level HP and Mythic HP on top of that? Did the mythic energy heal us all? I assume we are still down all our spells? What time of day is it / will I get a chance to rememorize? (I want some of my level 2 spells to boot).

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

I am still looking for suggestions with my leveling up and going mythic, but in the meantime I might as well roll for my HP's for next level. Watch a one incoming...

1d8 ⇒ 5

Surprising.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

I have also got my returning in character post up. I believe it is keeping to the theme and what was discussed with Robert. If I do need to alter anything Rob, please let me know.

Anyone have an opinion on the build leveling up / mythic leveling?

I don't want to step on anyones toes.

Next up - Catching up in Road to Damnation and then Quest for Arcadia.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Ar'Zarrcal recognized potent magic in place, his training in Xin-Shalast had fostered understanding of the arcane and the divine both and while intellectually he knew he could not hide behind an iron shield, instinct took over and he recoiled from the fey knight like a cat from freezing water. It was no use however. The haunting, six fingered hand of smoke and shadow passed effortlessly through the rune inscribed shield, snatching at the empty air before plunging forward gliding past armor and flesh to seize at the heart and soul beneath. Ar’Zarrcal froze in place. For a second in time he did not breathe, he did not shiver, he did not blink. The Thassilonian runes that were burned and etched into his flesh burst with a dazzling light that oscillated in color like the shifting and mesmerizing bands of the Aurora Borealis. The stillness that gripped him passes as the dwarf’s eyes wretch shut and he throws his head back and screams. A deafening thunderclap rumbles in the heavens seemingly in answer to his pain and the power being bestowed on all the others, followed by a flickering flash of lightning in reverse-order of the natural world.

The gift of the Queen of Witches was strange, fey and formidable but in Ar’Zarrcal it did not find a willing recipient, but rather a deviously engineered weapon. Those hundreds of runes and sigils covering his flesh were only the most visible of the marks that Karzoug the Claimer had placed on the dwarf, others were magically carved onto his bones and internal organs and even his soul. None were without a purpose. The magic of the Rune-lord of Greed acted like a siphon, drawing in power, trapping it and twisting it. Designed to aid Ar’Zarrcal in bending the ancient secrets of the dwarven runes, as well as twisting and harnessing divine energy – the design of Xin-Shalast now sought to imprison and absorb the weird mythic endowment of Baba Yaga’s messenger with mixed results. The Thassilonian magic had been modified from the sorcery that created the rune giants and enslaved the other giant races. It was meant to grow with Ar’Zarrcal’s own magical development. He was to be the stepping stone to both the enslavement of Janderhoff and the perversion of the dwarven rune magic. It was not meant to handle a sudden massive infusion of mystical power. On some obscure, esoteric level the mythic fey energy realized that prison it had wandered into and it struggled mightily to get out.

The rune-scarred dwarf fell to his knees in the snow and his arms thrust out to his sides, bent awfully as if his wrists were bound by invisible chains that were seeking to pull him apart. Blood began to trickle and leak from his eyes and nose, spilling into his frost covered black beard. He kept screaming as the mystic energies of Thassilon and Baba Yaga went to war with one another, caring nothing for the tortured and mutilated soul that first and original occupant of the fire-darkened body. Soon the muted voice of Einfar Yunst joined its voice to that of Ar’Zarrcal’s pain.

Ar’Zarrcal and Einfar Yunst continued to scream as the fey magic erased, altered or created new runes upon him – but another set of chains seeking to take hold of his soul. But he had screamed before. This too would pass. Having been subjected to the worst tortures Xin-Shalast had to offer for months on end, this was but a fleeting moment of agony. The creature known as Ar’Zarrcal was not easily broken. He had been built upon a foundation of torture and pain. They both resisted; one unwilling to be broken and forced to kneel again and the unwilling to be ended and seeing this gift only as power to be greedily seized for its own.

When the pain passed and the mythic power began to infuse his being images of the past and the future savaged his mind. One after another they passed before him, before sliding away like a panel in a dizzying kaleidoscope. The fall of Magnimar, his battle with the one armed giant, his education in Xin-Shalast. Shadowy vignettes of the past. The construction of a new citadel in the North, the Rebirth of a Rune-Lord, The battle between Karzoug and The Old Crone… possible futures he played a role in. The scenes were not only of his existence, but something about the mixing of opposing sorceries caused him to see the pasts and possible futures of Karzoug, the Midnight Rider, and each of his companions so gifted. In a blinding flash of golden light the visions were ended by the image of a golden, six winged woman with no mouth and the lower body of a serpent. A sihedron was emblazoned on her chest and spun rapidly, with each turn one of the seven virtues trumpeted forth. He knew her in an instant. The Lady of Fate. The Queen of Runes. The Mother of Virtues.

His scream ended and a barely heard word came from his hoarse throat. “Yunst.” Upon his brow the mark of the herald of Karzoug blazed brightly, flickering for a few moments, before guttering out and becoming dormant once more. For a moment the blood speckled eyes of Ar’Zarrcal met those of Feyronix Dagannauth. Was there stern judgment in his gaze? Anger and confusion? His eyes broke the contact too quickly for much to be read in a look. Ar’Zarrcal lifted himself to his feet once more. He was still bleeding from the wounds the troll had delivered upon him. The snow around him speckled and stained in shades of red. Greedily, Ar’Zarrcal scooped up some untouched snow and funneled it into his mouth, forcing it over his lips and down his raw throat.

Like emerging from the dwarven tunnels into the light of a midday sun it took a moment for everything to come into focus for Ar'Zarrcal, though it was more than just his vision that needed a moment, sound and smell, even his taste and tactil sense seemed off. He was not sure how long he had been staring at the Captain after he broke eye contact with Fenyx, but the first words he heard were 'I've never fealt better.' As the Captain related his encounter with the avoral saint of Andorran, Ar'Zarrcal began to ponder whether his vision was an actual divine visitation by Lissala.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forge-Master) / 3 Mythic Guardian 1

Any help in leveling / Mythicizing my character would be appreciated.

I think I am going to stick with Forge-Master as I cannot really find anything else that captures the flavor and theme I wanted for the character.

Regular level 3 feat: I am leaning toward either Shield Focus (I'll take another +1 to AC) or the Extend spell metamagic feat. If anyone has any additional recommendations or thoughts I would be willing to consider them as well.

It should be noted that I automatically gain Craft Magical Weapons and Armors as a bonus feat at this level.

Mythic progression: I am thinking either Marshal or Hierophant.

If Marshal: I'd take either Decisive strike or Rally and the first path ability would be either Greater Surge, deadly guidence, extra mythic power, or mythic sustenance.

If Hierophant: I'd take Inspired Spell and the first path ability would be either Flexible counterspell, Mighty summons, or mythic sustenance.

For the Mystic feat: I am thinking either Dual Path, Potent suge (if I go the greater surge route), or Shield focus mythic (if I take shield focus - then I'd eventually work to crafting a magic shield for myself)
