Hey guys, I'm sorry to say it but I'm afraid I'll have to drop this game. It's not that I don't enjoy it--I certainly do--but I started a new job today that leaves me with less time for Paizo, and this is by far my most intensive game. I wish it could be different, but I hope you all have fun.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

"I will follow you all to protect against attacks from behind. You will be safe with me there." Anhur says confidently. "Let The Red Seer walk before me and Samir before her, that we may bind her if need arises."

He pauses, considering something. After a moment he turns to Tairin with a serious expression on his face. "You are skilled with picks." He states flatly with a small nod.

Survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Kno:nature: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

"Let us light no fires here, for the gas would explode us all."

I think Hedran is working some of that out, but I do highly recommend vermin repellent. Not sure why it's wondrous when it's essentially moth ball paste, but I'll roll with it.

EDIT: I made a post suggesting we take the sewers to avoid drawing attention to ourselves as murderers, but I guess it didn't stick. :/

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

Ah, I understand. I was thinking of 1/3 the gp cost, but that's not what's used in crafting rolls of course. Also, my t10 of 18 was something I initially thought was 20, which is why I thought I could do it for vermin repellent. I failed to realize I couldn't t10 once I found my bonus was only +8.
I'll figure out crafting later.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

I usually prefer to take 10 on craft checks, which is indeed allowed. The negative consequences rule applies only to taking 20 because taking 20 is considered to start at 1, then 2, etc, until 20. Thus for actions with negative consequences you'd automatically get the worst.
My craft t10 result is 18, as used in the example above. But I wasn't sure if crafting is supposed to take 5, 6, or 7 days in a week.
Vermin Repellent

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

No worries GM. Hope to hear from you soon.

As for Alchemists and crafting, they do get a class bonus and later can craft more swiftly. But it's my understanding that the craft check result * the craft DC (such as 18, my t10 result, * 20 = 360) just has to exceed the sp value of the item (5gp = 50sp). That being for a full week of work, and having exceeded the required value by quite a lot, we can divide it down to the per-day work required. In this case, it's less than a day.
At least that's how I'm reading it.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

If I understand the craft skill correctly, I should have time to make some vermin repellent today. However, we should probably all have a dose of that, and plenty of torches, and probably some acid. I'd love to craft it all, but alas, time.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

Anhur considers all that has transpired, but withholds his offensive tongue all the while. With the plan to enter the catacombs unwelcome he is stricken with a morbid curiosity, and finds himself somewhat excited to begin the expedition. City folk were strange in how they dealt with their dead, and Anhur had never had the chance to enter a great hall made for only them. It was sure to be an interesting new experience, and even moreso for the nature of the job on which it depended.

"I think I shall take a bit of gold and help make preparations." He announces to the others, considering all the various concoctions he knows.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

A dungeoneering kit sounds wise.
I'm doing what I can to catch up in gameplay, but it's a lot to handle.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

They have been kinda crazy. The aftermath in my apartment is a real testament.
I need to clean.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

Anhur raises a hand against Red's offer of further witchcraft. His own wounds are far better than they were the night before, what with him being a quick healer naturally and the aid received at the bath house.

In response to Tairin, he nods with understanding and makes no objection. The scrolls would surely be safe as long as they remained closed and unobserved.

To Bjoern, Anhur says nothing. The man slept like a rock but luckily was not truly needed. Whatever grief Tairin might have with him, or whatever questions he may have about their plans for the day, were their own business between them.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

Honestly I was assuming Bjoern was just a heavy sleeper. I'll take the scrolls, yes.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

Anhur considers the exchange and nods silently. He stands to depart.
"I will consider our story, and what words we should speak to the priestess. Yet I will not speak them, for the people of this town carry hatred towards me and look to bring me harm for daring to utter a sound."
He turns to Samir. "I would hope this group of assassins can indeed divine our presence, for it is only by them that we may hope to learn the true nature of the dead man and what he carried."
At the babbling prophecies of the witch, he simply shakes his head and moves for the door.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

"Is no one concerned about the other who has read these scrolls?" Anhur wonders aloud. He isn't sure if it makes any sense, but isn't exactly an expert in magic himself, and is yet very tired.
"I say we bind her this night and on the sunrise take her to a priest or miracle worker, if such a person may be found."

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

Anhur rouses and leaves the bulk of his gear next to his bed, pausing only to snatch his daggers and rub a bit of sleep from his eyes. He is still quite weary and not in the mood for games, but he nonetheless proceeds to the next room prepared to do whatever must be done.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft
Tairin of the Veils wrote:
"Whoever that man was that was attacked in the alley, he must be known and a man of some position or means..."

"I do not think so, daughter of Yar-Ammon." Anhur says without any of his usual tone, pausing to sigh heavily. "He traveled alone, with no real weapons or armor, no escort, in a back alley by cover of night. He bore also this belt, some fashion of ward against thieves, and these dark scrolls. No noble or priest would travel as this man did. I suspect he was a man of some power, yes. But I think we would learn most about this man from his assailants, were they not all dead." Anhur concludes his reasoning and leans forward, rubbing his temples.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

Anhur accompanies Hedran into the room with Red and Tairin, but he looks tired and worn. "Tonight is a good night for rest." He declares as he enters.

After hearing Tairin's news, Anhur nods grimly. "These are chaotic times in this city. I think our arrival is... untimely."

As the murdered man's articles are produced, Anhur eyes them warily. "I fear these things may bring more trouble upon us than they are worth. Perhaps it would be best to entrust them to Samir for their sale, and then banish them from our thoughts."

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

Anhur nods at Samir's departure, but for the present remains silent. His eyes drift lazily towards Tairin's performance but the blood loss and weariness keep his mind swimming. He lingers for only a moment before wordlessly departing for his own room, just as Tairin was finishing her song. He is sure they will have much to discuss but the common room would be a poor place to do it anyway.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

Anhur considers the happenings with a held tongue, keeping his peace as the others speak. He had noticed that people in these lands seemed to hate him even before he spoke, and moreso if he dared part his lips, so he decided to act with wisdom and remain silent so as to avoid provoking the disdainful foreigners.
Still, his ears remain open and his eyes ever watchful and piercing. This town was already among the more dangerous of his travels, and presently he watches for danger in every shadow; ease is not with him, nor can he find rest even here.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

Anhur stands before the man and beckons to him with sincerity. "We have survived, but not without pain. Is your city always so dangerous for travelers? Is there no respite for the robbed, the wounded, and the weary within these walls? Surely there is mercy for poor strangers within the hands of your great goddess. Or is she not such a goddess as we have heard?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 18

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

Anhur clutches his new wound as he collects his discarded spear and puts away his other weapons. "Samir, you seem cunning, but I would prefer you not get us all killed this night." He says, noting Samir's own wounds.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

"Bear, behind him!" Anhur calls out as he shifts into position.
Delaying to see if Bjoern will help me flank. I'll go ahead and roll the attacks.
Club TWF: 1d20 + 3 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 3 + 1 - 2 = 11, Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7, Sneak: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Dagger TWF: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 3 - 2 = 11, Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4, Sneak: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Doesn't seem to matter anyway.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

Anhur shifts in to flank with Samir, then stabs again with his blood-covered spear.
Spear + flank: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 2 = 13, Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (7) + 4 + (5) = 16
He then drops his spear and draws his club and dagger, preparing for a more intense melee. "Your legacy will be a blood stain on this street." He hisses at his opponent.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

Anhur draws a spear and stabs at the man sandwiched between himself and the great Bear.
Spear: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 3 + 2 = 24, Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 4 + (2) = 14
The man is clearly distracted by the larger fighter and Anhur's spear finds its mark with terrible precision.
I think my Eyes of the Cat keep me on target here.
Should the other guys be rolling for miss chance too?

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

I might get a lockbox or something unwieldy to snatch.

I am doing better, thanks. Still sick, but better.
One thing I messed up with was not eating. It made things worse. Don't forget to eat in amongst the resting and such.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

"This plan pleases me, but how can we be sure to hold onto our purses this time? And speaking of purses, have you sold our wagon?" Anhur grins at the idea of robbing the thieves, but he maintains a composure to avoid making mistakes of passion.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

That sounds like exactly what I had actually. The worst of mine was done in 4 or 5 days. But man, it was rough for that stretch. Take care Ariarh.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

"There are articles and services I require, but those are concerns for another day. I wish to know what business is transpiring on the other end of the city." Anhur speaks, standing broad and ready. His robes, still the khaki color of the wastes, hang about him with an air of forgotten splendor even as the sun grows weary in the sky.

--------------------------------------------------------------

"She speaks wisely. We should not miss our companion, nor should he miss us." Anhur says with a respectful nod.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

That sounds reasonable, since apparently even walking out the door around this "upscale" establishment is a good way to get master-thieved.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft
Dain GM wrote:
"Ah! You were robbed by one of the street gangs which operate near to here, eh? Do you know which gang assailed you?" he asks, a curious tone in his voice.

"I am a stranger to this city, and these thieves did not announce their names or their deeds. If I knew which bandit had taken my silvers, I would already be freeing his blood from his body." Anhur replies, now somewhat more calm but clearly still angry; he was not a man to forgive a slight, though not every grudge was wise to pursue.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

Anhur curses and swears as he gropes all over his robes in a furious effort to find what he would not; both purses had gone missing. "At least the bandits of the desert wastes had pride enough to rob openly where they could be strangled!" He declares in frustration.

Breton Thaumaturge 1 | HP: 12/12 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: +0, CMD: 11 | Init: +1, Perception: +0 | SP: 5/5 | Speed: 30ft

So you're saying I'll have to roll an unusually large nat20?

Ah, got it. Unfortunately it looks like the draft of my post where I actually typed out my perception roll never made it to the boards, so I don't have one. I suppose the GM can (or has) roll(ed) for me. Still, it'd be good to know who is robbed and who is not.

Just in case, I threw up a post whereby I can produce Hedran's purse if need be. Or I can make it even better when I've lost his, mine, or both of ours.

"They are different, I'll give you that" - Hedran nods in agreement - "Soft... Maybe... I tend to think they are hard in different ways. The most ruthless people I have ever met were city dwellers" - he ponders - "They would not draw a blade on you, don't even know if they could use one. Yet they could bring worlds of harm upon their antagonists"

Again the familiar chuckle returns - "But yep, they are soft" - he adds, taking a bite from his own morsel.

"What about you Anhur? What brings you here?"

"I have wandered the many lands that lie north of my birth home. I have learned from the warriors of Azimba, but also from the panthers of Ikuna; I have seen the strange mystics of Yar-Ammon, but I have also seen the fires of Zadj; I have eaten with the men of Khazistan and the beasts of the eastern shores. Wherever the strands of fate pull me, there I go. And in all places, in all precious things, in all great men and powerful beasts, I search for the center, the heart."

Hedran wrote:

"I would gladly help, but it would seem after purchasing these meager morsels, I have been 'relieved' of all my money also" - Hedran shakes his head with a smile - "I'm not even surprised this city is already overwhelming us without the slightest of chances" - then turns to Anhur - "I guess we are the soft ones huh?" - again he shakes his head and smiles.

"Red, I cannot help you" - he returns to the matters at hand - "I have no issues in offering my work as servant for a couple of days, if they accept it. Maybe that will sort things out? At least they should offer me a place to sleep, now that I have no coin to pay for my own" - he suggests, then adds with a slight more serious tone - "Or we can just bolt. I don't care"

"You should not be so careless, Hedran. While we spoke I watched a man make a move for your purse. Do not despair, for I took it to keep with my own. Here--" Anhur says with a grin, reaching back for the missing purse.

Okay, a couple of questions:

1) It looks like Red is blowing Alia's cover story for her, which can't be good to call her a liar in front of her coworkers. I'm not sure if this was intentional or not though, which is why I bring it up.

2) I only read that Red had been robbed and didn't see anything about anyone else being robbed. Did I miss something? How many of us have been relieved of our treasures?

"I cannot ignore the flavor," Anhur replies, taking a satisfying bite, "But whatever beast died for this, its strength is forgotten." He spits out a chunk of gristle and shrugs. "There is much that bloody meat can offer, but few have the stomach for it." He surveys the people in the city streets and concludes, "City dwellers have a soft nature."

It was my understanding that we split the coin portion, yes. But we have an awkward wagon, camels, and random armor to part with now as well. Presumably Samir will help us sell those and we will split the proceeds as well.
Although worth noting, I can't remember how much we each got after Samir took his cut (if he took a cut).

Anhur took in Hedran's brief story with a strong, mischievous laugh at the end, though to what he took humor was not fully clear.
He spoke to Samir of the Gods, the Demons, and the spirits that men worshiped for power; he spoke of the strength of Bjoern and the cunning of Tairin, the magic of Red and the bravery of the slaves; he spoke to consulted a scroll of strange letters, and worked with many strange things; and at last, he took some time to close his eyes and rest a bit, for the battle had taken much from him.

Within the city Anhur did as he was told. For indeed many men, as he had known, were buried with their pride, but the clever man lives many long days.

At the inn, Anhur watched Samir closely. While he did indeed seem a friend, danger and fear could dissolve even the bonds between kin, and they were certainly far from kin. Yet still he took no action against them, at least of an obvious sort, and this pleased Anhur well.

Finally arriving at the bath house, something which Anhur had taken to be more for the women, he realized what sort of place it truly was. As Hedran declined an invitation, so too did he. Many were the seductive arts of those who would pry from a man his dignity, his safety, or his wealth. Anhur avoided such indulgences as often as he could, and having the company of the Fighting Slave was a good enough reason.
"Remember to ask for the one called Alia." He whispered to Tairin before departing.

In the streets he bought for himself some cheap spiced cider and purchased too some cooked and flavored meats. He looked upon them with judgment, however, and shook his head. "They use fire to make it better for the stomach, but in such do they drive from it all power."

Okay I'll get a post up. Sorry, for some reason I had it stuck in my head that both Hedran and Tairin would post yesterday.
I've been really sick so that's my excuse for not making sense.

I suppose I was wanting to include Hedran in some pre-city conversation, and Tairin is gone anyway, so I thought it might make sense.

Hm. Well, can we put things on hold until the 4th?

He promised me a tale.

Anhur stretches his legs and pops his back loudly in the back of the wagon. The scars and stitches from the morning's affairs are just starting to blend into the other, older marks that litter his body. He wears a rare smile and sorts through a collection of odd animal parts, fluids, and vials contained within a tortoise shell while humming a strange southern tune. Once he's quite comfortable he looks up at Hedran.

"So, Hedran, the Fighting Slave, tell us what you will of where you come from and what makes you a man."

Oh, true. I just assumed from the beginning that he was on the up & up. Maybe I'm naive.

Y'all are a paranoid bunch. I like this guy Samir.

I think we're going to take at least 2 camels and just one wagon. We're then going to set out immediately for the city. If we're leaving now, Samir should be happy to travel with us. Assuming we're not still waiting on Bjoern to finish molesting the dead.

Glad it wasn't your spine. I had a minor spine injury not so long ago and it took about 6 months to heal. The back is a very sensitive thing.

Now then, about plans:

As I see it we can either take the camels, with the women riding and the men walking, and the gold & such on any available camels; or we can take a wagon, all but one or two of us ride in it (or take shifts), and then ditch it outside the city. The latter would technically be slower, but it would save us time vs having to stop for 3 hours today to get out of the sun.

Anhur nods, and a hint of a smile passes across his usually hardened, apathetic visage. "And wise! We shall be friends." He declares, happily seeing about untethering the camels from the wagons. "Let us be away before the next slavers find us!"

As he attends to every duty he can find, now in much better spirits since things have gotten more interesting, he passes by Tairin and mutters to her in a low voice, "This one, Hedran, would give strong children." He nods in recognition of the service he has done her and resumes his activities.
