Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Anca gives a slight inclination of her head in a nod. "Very like. Curious that I was at the tavern last night and heard no such disturbance. If these men brawled, it was likely amongst themselves, out of public view... but then," she pauses narrowing her eyes, "how would the Sheriff have been informed of the altercation?

"If you've no further need of me, I should like to acquaint myself of the ways here, and there is no greater authority than the Sheriff."

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Tyrgrim:

Hunch is that Anca doubts that necking with some random peasant warrior is really going to convince whomever it is that's coming there, especially with no prior knowledge of the conspirator.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

"How convenient," Anca answers, and spares a glance and a soft smile for Tyrgrim. "Perhaps upon the road we might even fall in love," she jests and laughs softly. "I only hope that this ruse will confound the subject."

Anca looks to the memorial. "What was the name of the Warden's lady?" she inquires.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

"I extended no such invitation, and you have already testified that my slender frame and demeanor stirs no desire in you," Anca states. She looks to the sheriff. "Surely you've a deputy that might be interested in a passion play?"

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

"There might be another way. The sheriff suggested that this area is one that is known for regular visits by youth. Perhaps we might be stealthy within plain sight?" Anca suggests. "In this instance, we might solve two problems, maintaining order and a sense of normalcy among the community, and discovering the threat."

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Sorry for stalling on this game. When I post multiple times a day in my game, I need to take some hours to not simply walk up and meta the stuffing out of this game.

Anca Perception1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Anca Survival 1d20 ⇒ 4

Anca is very careful about the placement of her feet as she approaches the base of the statue to read the names carved there. She noted with a small amount of frustration that the Sheriff had not mentioned the name of the lady in question, and suspected that it should not be terribly difficult to distinguish hers from the others. After all, it made very little sense for a woman to be counted among the employees at a prison, in any capacity.

Would it not be far more romantic had the warden and his lady lived together? she muses. I do believe that the man confuses tragedy with love. Curious, that...

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Tyrgrim?

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Okay, well then, when it is appropriate, I will make the aforementioned knowledge checks. Obviously, making them while we're investigating something "unrelated" is not appropriate.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Did anyone let anca know about the contents of the books, etc?

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Anca Knowledge Local (Monument) 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Anca spares Tyrgrim a sideways glance. "A pet, in this community? More likely it were some farm animal," Anca suggests as diplomatically as possible. Taking 10 on local to know that Ravengro is a farming community. Hopefully is not too meta "We should hope that that is the case, it would narrow our search significantly. Livestock has some value to its owner."

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Anca Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Anca Untrained Heal 1d20 ⇒ 9

"Blood," Anca recognizes, and touches her fingertips to her mouth. She glances at the Sheriff, and keeps her place. Anca looks about for the source. Given the amount, it should be a rather large animal. "Do you see a source of this blood?" she asks anyone who is listening.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Anca Bluff 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

"Have I given the false impression that I would be one taken alive?" Anca replies, then waves the gaffe away with a gesture. "It is not my intent to be struck in the course of our acquaintance."

I am assuming that any of you who are interested can hear this conversation that Anca and Tyrgrim are having. It is not meant to be private.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Anca Bluff 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

Anca inhales sharply when the priest touches her, but does not cringe or shy away. "Some persons are artists with a knife, others have hands blunt as the tools themselves," she dismisses. Anca smiles softly. "It is a... relief that we have managed to find some basis for an understanding."

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

"A moment, if you will," Anca interrupts. "I had a thought, to minimize confusion and... allusions to titles that are beyond my current means, I would change my clothing. If you would give me just a few minutes. Perhaps Mistress Kendra might inform us where we can find this memorial? I thought it rude to skulk to locate it, myself."

After Kendra informs us of the location, Anca will spend a few minutes changing into her explorer's outfit, letting her rose gold braids continue to decorate her neck.

Anca Untrained Disguise 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Anca Untrained Disguise 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Anca Bluff (False Modesty) 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

'Gibs' is the leader's name. Perhaps Kendra will recognize it, Anca muses. Anca does not startle when the young man enters, but calmly moves aside so that he can deliver his information. A murder?

Anca bows her head in a salute to the sheriff when he exits, but does not speak. She exits soon thereafter, and for a few moments follows the direction the pair is walking with her eyes, then collects herself and her skirts and proceeds to the Lorrimor residence.

Upon arrival, Anca knocks politely at the door and waits to be bidden to enter. She is pleased when she hears the sound of bar and lock being drawn back to admit her, recognizing that some had the sense to secure the door. Anca smiles at Kendra.

"It is pleasant to see you again, Mistress. I trust that my tardiness has not barred me from enjoying the company of your companions?" she says with false modesty.

When invited in, Anca follows Kendra to the eating area, where she sets down her recent purchase, and addresses the group assembled.

"Greetings gentleman, mistress," she inclines her head to Urgma. "My time without was not without occupation. I have learnt that the apothecary of this town is reputed to be a witch, the name of the man who accosted us at the cemetery, and that there is some manner of trouble at 'the memorial?'" Anca pauses and looks to Kendra for more information. "The sheriff and his deputy are investigating. I thought we might find and interview this Gibs character, but I should like to learn that which truly startles this sleepy community."

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

I'm gonna go ahead and take the liberty of inserting Anca into the scene at the Lorrimor manor, if you do not mind terribly. :)

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Anca holds out her hand. "Anca Ravarath, of Ordanto, formerly of Karcau and Caliphas," she replies. "I was in attendance at the Professor's funeral. The procession was obstructed by a mob who claimed that he was a necromancer, led by an elder man..."

Anca Intelligence Check to recall/describe the ring leader 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

"There is no cause to press charges, but I did find his terminology highly suspicious.

"Also, might you be aware if there have been any other groups of strangers in the town recently?"

if needed... Anca Diplomacy 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

"I have heard it said that the apothecary is some manner of enchantress," Anca jests, "but I have not substantiated the rumors. If it will not take up too much of your time, sir, I would like to know whatever details this office has concerning the death of one Petros Lorrimor, my former employer."

Anca Diplomacy to Gather Info 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Anca smiles and retrieves her purse. She will dole out her copper pieces to the children waiting, then crosses the hall and salutes the disgusted boy who has not spoken at all. "You are the child who Mistress Kendra mentioned, who posts the bills?" she inquires. "Please order breakfast for me, and I will meet you below in one quarter of an hour. It was your services I requested, and I have no intention of reneging on my offer."

Anca Diplomacy 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Anca will return to her room, wash and dress properly, then come down and eat. She asks the boy on their ranging to show her to the store where she might purchase more clothes (a standard traveler's outfit for 8 gold), and when he has delivered her to the sheriff's office, she will pay him the promised sum of two silvers.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Anca Untrained Disguise 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

I did not order breakfast, Anca muses whilst rising. Her rose gold curls have been worked into plaits that wrap around her neck. Anca gathers a robe and pulls it over her shoulders, disguising her scars from the full view of the public. In the interest of saving you the time, even though the GM is supposed to roll this in secret, I've done it above.

Anca goes to the door and opens it, looking outside before she speaks.

"Good morning. How might I assist you?"

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Character Creation

I use my brain and Microsoft Word.

Lots of people use HeroLabs.

DM Tools

DM tools... A flash stick, a word document and the ability to copypasta and type. Hahaha.

Oh, and Maptools. And some way to work around it. Because adding coordinates to AP maps is time consuming and bothersome. What else... Oh yes, simple maps can be done in GoogleDocs with the spreadsheet program. I've learned how to do that recently, myself. You can color rows and columns to distinguish things.

Other than that, roll behind spoilers marked GM Screen. Is fun.

Sure there's other things I'm leaving out.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Rum dum dee dee doo.

Anca will spam some perform checks while she's washing up for bed.

Most of my games are stalled today, even those that I am running.

Anca Perform (Singing in the Shower) 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

After her interviews, Anca requests that she speak with the boy that Kendra mentioned earlier, the one who is responsible for posting messages. Whether or not she meets him specifically, she will offer the sum of two silver pieces to show her to the apothecary's shop, the sheriff, and finally to any place that she might find more appropriate clothing in the morning. She will then retire to her room, and secure the doors and windows. She will wash, and then go to sleep.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Yeah, i'm fine being lawful evil if he thinks that's what she should be. As long as i'm not smoten when I open the door.

Tomorrow will be a new day and when she actually can prove that she's not worthless because she can't hit things real hard, it'll be cool.

But tomorrow for Anca looks like it'll be a while.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Lacerations were healed before she came, and unless you're stating that Tyrgrim has x-ray vision that portends only to clothes, I don't see how a disguise check is needed to conceal that cannot be seen under regular clothing. Do you need to roll a disguise check when you put on your shirt in the morning?

Either way, what is done is done. Anca will probably return in the morning to tell all of you what she has learned. After doing some shopping and checking out the local law enforcement for whatever information they can give her. I would assume if the apothecary was making poisons and stuff, the sheriff would know something about it.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Anca doesn't know you can cast spells. *shrugs* Don't see why she'd be particularly intolerant either way.

Tyrgrim Stonecleave wrote:

So far I have not seen her do a single good thing (unless you count the diplomacy check to have the peasants step down) or had a single good thought, but she have upon several occasions displayed hatred and disdain for others, reacted explosively when asked to display a show of dedication to the cause, and shown a love for berating others. She has also defended her family from indirect verbal assault, even if she know they are the most heinous of scum.

First, I gather you do not recall, but until Tyrgrim and Urgma made a united front against the peasants and drew negative attention to all of us, she was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. She doesn't have much of a thought about Urgma at all, because that's how I'm playing her reaction to a CHA 8 character. I will remind you again that in game it's been less than a day since we've become acquainted with each other.

You asked for a personal oath to you to supersede that which she already considered herself bound to, the execution of the Professor's will. Again, Anca came to clear her plate of obligations so she could go back to her SO free of any. Her thoughts were, I stay here the required month, I deliver the books, I go home. In her mind, there's no reason that is not possible. She came to the Professor's funeral because she cared, but I haven't really gotten the ability to play that as of yet. Tyrgrim's history of his employment with the Professor is significantly different than Anca's. She accepted his terms, did his work, and brought it back before the deadline. I think I have had her think that she was grateful to him for allowing her to express her talents in ways that her contemporaries could not. He was her boss, they didn't have much of a relationship to talk about at the funeral.

As for defending her family, she's defended the warrior types against Tyrgrim's assessment that they were all oppressing the masses, and heinous, heinous bastards for doing so. These are people she knows and feels for, uncles, cousins, heck, even men at arms she respects. She knows that their sacrifices are what keeps her in silks and fancy clothes in the capital. Her sacrifice for her family, her duty, is to marry up to join her house to another more powerful one so that they can get some manner of support.

Not that Tyrgrim knows about her evil mom and creeper brother to even be arguing about that in the first place. And she has never ever defended those actions. Her position on them is "Boy am I glad I'm not there. I would really like to be free for myself and not bound to anyone at all." Then AP.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

After argument with hubby, he has stated that Anca is LE because she doesn't appear to mourn the professor's passing and she's made reference to active worship of Zon Kuthon in her thoughts. He also believes that her particular regard for contracts is redolent of Asmodeus, which I never intended to imply. But Anca is my first lawful character ever, so I may have read too much into the "law" part of lawful.

I disagree, but have accepted his judgment. Anca hasn't demonstrated any mourning for the professor just yet, but she's been a bit busy lately what with all of her own personal problems, like her supposed SO carving her up like a thanksgiving ham, her brother being a general creeper and her good 'ol mum basically dictating her life.

So, mister paladin sir. I suppose it's good that detect evil can't find the faint trace in Anca for you to smite and kill her before she gets the chance to progress, as that would be sad for me.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Cool, if you agree with what I wrote up for my game, you don't have to write anything :P

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Take 10 or would you like me to roll?

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Is all right. I got the stuff Anca really wanted to know, like "oh gee, these unwashed peasants watch everything we do and spread stories about us. What do you think about that, Tyrgrim? Still interested in carrying on like savage?"

Also suspected the Councilman was up to some bad stuff, but I figure if there was any dirt on the dude, she would have known it.

OH!

Do I need to make a Knowledge (Local) to know about the Council Members, or just the town in general?

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

as i understand it, anca has no reason to be making any of those rolls...

correct?

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Fasir mentioned that he read it aloud, above.

Fasir wrote:

Fasir now gathers up the Journal and opens it reading aloud the entries.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Is cool, you can find her... according to Tyrgrim, mashed up into tiny tiny fish food type pieces by the enemy because she's so weak and defenseless *cowers*

Ryuko:

Anca's going to go after the sheriff. Hope you don't mind. :P

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

It's okay. Tyrgrim, lord of the bear-cock is there to patch 'im up. :P

Great, now I am thinking of my husband's cleric as a Caucasian Barry White...

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Held off on posting my actions since I split the party, but essentially will go as follows:

After taking 10 on Kn. Local to find the Laughing Demon mentioned by Kendra Lorrimor, Anca will speak to the barkeep, pay for her room and a meal and secure permission to perform in the common room in the evening.

Anca's Perform (Sing) 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 Sheebus, with a roll like that, I fear for my diplomacy roll later

Likely succeeding to put the patrons at ease with her song, and hopefully impressing some as well Anca will spend the remainder of her evening interviewing them about several topics which she gathers might be of importance to them, and likely to the team as well. Specifically, she would like to know the following:

1. Their attitude towards their Council members, and their governance.

2. Any particular outstanding issues of concern that they do not believe are being addressed by the authorities.

3. Any juicy rumors that they are willing to share.

Anca Diplomacy (Gather Information) 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22 and speaking to them will take 1d4 ⇒ 2 hours.

Ryuko wrote:

Yeah, I like your arguments actually... funny little group dynamic over there.

Two college educated, hard core gamers arguing... He made his character specifically to antagonize mine.

He's done this before, when I made a CN tiefling rogue (later turned out to be a rogue/wizard/AT) from the Shackles, he made a Tian samurai-flavored (not the class) Paladin7/Monk1. Funny though, in play she acted more good than him sometimes. Their secret romance was the only thing that made that AP bearable for either of us. Bad GM was bad, and there was literally no reason for the rest of the group to know that they were fooling around.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Hey, Ryuko. Feel free to copy pasta and BBC code all the work I just did with the damn journal entries.

Man... took like an hour to get that freaking post out. Sheesh.

Edit

How fun, Tyrgrim and Anca being oil and water.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Anca Intimidate 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

"You are no greater than me, Sir," Anca hisses, her eyes flashing burning hatred. "Never again presume to condescend to me of speaking of bigotry and fear. I have my employment, and you have your honor. Which do you believe is more likely to fill your belly this evening?"

When Tyrgrim lets go the door, Anca leaves, and makes her way to the local tavern.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

"Do it!" Anca hisses, challenging. "Hit me and show that you are no better than your father. Hit me and prove that you are the greater man."

When Tyrgrim dismisses her Anca shores up her resolve and gathers her things. "As the Councilman said, you've no need of our persons drawing negative attention to you, Mistress. I will take residence at the tavern, where the paltry talents recognized by the Professor will have the greatest return for my efforts," she says pointedly, and lifts and secures her pack on her shoulders.

"Like as not, you will find no amusement in my employment, Sir. As you so clearly do not believe that I have any worth to you I will thank you not to observe and disquiet those who I seek to interview."

Anca, clearly angry, moves to exit the house while Kendra is moving to claim the books.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

"I am no chattel, to be commanded thus," Anca seethes, rising. "The Professor's will is a contract, and I, as a party to it, as all of you, are bound to execute the letter of his instructions. Fortunately for me, it makes no mention of being subjected to your company a moment longer than is needed to dispose of our charge," she says with a voice reminiscent of ice cracking.

Anca steps up to Tyrgrim and looks into his eyes. "You speak as though you are the only who has known suffering on account of the environment," she begins. "For all your righteous vim of pride and honor in taming the elements and success in battle, have you once considered that others save them with whom you readily identify have not experienced the same? I am a scion of House Ravarath of Ordanto. My family, my blood stood in defiance of the Whispering Tyrant's undead host, and continues to stand against invasion by hostiles from without. Are our dead less honored than yours because they could speak more than one language, and lay down their lives in defense of civilization?

"Dismiss me at your leisure, savage. I have greater care for my man at arms than for your person. His speech may not be so high as yours, but he has proven his worth to me."

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

I am pretty sure that between me and and the hubber bee, we can entertain each other. In a completely non-sexual and non-threatening way. At least, I'm fairly certain I can keep Anca from trying to claw his eyes out with her fingernails. :P

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1
Tyrgrim Stonecleave wrote:
"Hooh? And you would spend hours, if not days, asking the peasants this, the same peasants who likely right now are gossiping and turning the story on how I asked a disruptive little arse to shut his yap, into a tale wherein 'The 8 foot half-ogre savage had his fiery 10 foot blade blade to my throat whilst raping my daughter over a grave with his massive bear-cock!'" he dismisses crudely

"Words have meaning," Anca just as easily dismisses the savage. "Mine - if I may, oh ogre lord in possession of a bear-cock - meant to emphasize that this peasant used the word Necromancer; not warlock, witch, or zombie-lord which are far more accessible to the ignorant."

Anca's eyes almost seem to glitter as she is rebuking the savage, "Perhaps it is your people's incredible level of sophistication that your children speak of conjurers, evokers and diviners specifically when they speak of spellcasters, but ours simply say wizard.

"This rumor did not originate with the residents, it is far more likely that an educated third party filled their ears with hate. If we limit our search to the educated in this hamlet... well then, I believe that even amongst our party there is at least one who might be excluded from suspicion."

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

"Aye, but who caught the fish, sir?" Anca asks, painted eyebrow raised in an expression of amusement. "Determine the origin of the tale, we may silence the hostility towards us before it has a chance to spread further," she suggests coolly.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Anca simply reciprocates the gesture, touching the glass to her lips and wetting them, but scarcely tasting the liquor. She has not the way with alcohol, preferring to avoid it altogether, to maintain the sharpness of her mind and the quality of her voice without slurring her speech. When the moment has passed she sets the glass down on a table and returns to the book cases. She skims the titles with a fingertip, looking for any concerning the history of the town and perhaps its unique form of governance when she recalls a thought she had had at the cemetery.

"Mistress Lorrimor, was your father's profession very well known among the residents?" she inquires. "The leader called the Professor a necromancer. I had the thought that to a common peasant wyvern might be mistaken for a drake, but mistaking the primary subject of study for a wizard? How might that be done unless they were informed by a third party?"

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

Anca remains silent for the duration of the walk to the Lorrimor residence, keeping an appropriate distance from the barbarian. She considers the cruel twist of coincidences that delivered her to this backwards hamlet. In terms of composition, there was little difference between Ravengro and any one of the villages the Ravarath family held and defended, save for this council.

Anca pauses for a long while and studies the house her former employer inhabited. When she was called to his offices at the university, she never imagined that she might some day be in a position to intrude upon his private life. Petros Lorrimor's patronage allowed her to move in academic and social circles her less able peers would never consider their advantage to learn. The improvement of her contacts of course was of course a desirable result, even if it were unintended. Anca wished that she had been able to express her gratitude to the Professor for the opportunities he had provided her, but that obligation had perished with him.

Rather than continue hostilities with the savage in Kendra's home, Anca instead drifted to the bookcases. When alcohol is mentioned, her cool blue eyes narrow, but she says nothing. I will not allow that creature to engage me in another pointless debate.

Anca's fingertips play across the spines of the books and she finds herself wondering how often each have been opened. Such a wealth of information gathered in one home...

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

That's just like, your opinion, man.

Is about the level of pith I'm running at now, which is why my games are stalling. Oh noes!

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

I'm reaching the limit for my responses for the night. If you want to have Kendra move us along, Ryuko, is cool, Anca and Tyrgrim can continue their conversation here, if I find it appropriate and you do not mind.

Also, post an action in my CC, please. Combat is likely to end this round, but sheesh. I want to move on in the morning :)

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

"I acted to prevent you from causing a scene that would shame the tradition of maintaining silence in respect of the residents honored dead," Anca answers Tyrgrim. "It is true that we are not as they are, but the lives of peasants here are no less of a struggle than of exalted warriors who stand in defense of their tribe or village. That you dismiss the contribution of the farmer, the miller and the smith to fill your belly, mend your arms and drive society provides further evidence that you are barbarous and unfit to enjoy the benefits ordered civilization provides."

Anca raises her chin and meets the savage's eyes with the stirrings of a passionate enmity. "The blood that flows through mine veins is that which has stood in defiance of barbarian hordes for centuries. We do not belittle our small folk their occupations, but rather promote and maintain the security that they require for each of us to live."

Anca remains looking at Tyrgrim when she acknowledges Zaxirii's wisdom. "My desire succinctly affirmed, Sir. I applaud you."

Female Human (Varisian) Bard/1

"Perhaps when we have sequestered ourselves," Anca suggests, casting a wary glance about for any locals. "If there is a pervasive fear of the site amongst our hosts, is it particularly wise to be stirring their enmity by speaking of it in plain view?" Have we not already caused enough this afternoon?
